Recommended launcher for Arc S with ICS? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I just flashed CM9 on my Arc S and everything is fine,
Though I can still notice some lag while scrolling between homescreens \ entring the drawer.
I guess it could be improved with a good launcher.
What's the best launcher for this mission? I tried LauncherPro, it works good but it has that GB look
Thanks
Tom.

i suggest the sony stock one modded for CM9/CM10/AOKP

Thanks for the reply.
What does it mean?
How can I get both stock and CM together?

CM launcher is called trebuchet, Sony launcher is Xperia launcher or sth. They can coexist without problems.
I'm using Nova launcher (prime), which is based on stock ICS launcher, and for me it's the one, I recommend it.
Or you can try Apex. I prefer Nova, but some prefer Apex.
LauncherPro doesn't have GB look, but 2.2 or even 2.1 (I think its based on stock 2.1 launcher) look. It was great at the time, but developer fall asleep or sth, there hasnt been any update in couple of years now.

Apex
Use the Apex launcher.. its the simplest and best launcher out there.. you'll like it =)
easy and simple to configure.

i'm talkin bout this

Apex launcher works fine. You can also test Nova, which can import setings and desktops from apex.

Vote for Apex, you can preview in JJ Hybrid Rom's Thread

Used trebuchet, nova and xperia gx, but for me, Apex is the best!

Holo launcher HD check it out

Definierty Apex laucher, smooth, fast, stable, and support edit many thing, sr my eng

I was thinking the same thing...
when I had GB I used go launcher and was kinda of slow.......
Now I use ICS and I read the review on play store from GO and apparently still slow and consume a lot of ram...
I'm using jj's hybrid rom and I love it, my never was this faster and the battery is just perfect. but the launcher that they use is kind of ugly ( trebuchet ) and I cannot change my dock icons... I've read that the best out there are" 1: apex and 2: nova... which one will you recommend if you want to keep the phone run smooth and fast???
I install the apex for a couple minutes and after a few changes was kind of laggy... I'm using nova now and is responding a lot better but I would like the opinion of someone who has used this two launchers for more than a few minutes like....

i use apex concurrently with stock launcher and i think it's terrific. I enabled tablet UI mode so the default dock is gone and the google search is default instead and it looks great. It's pretty fast and not as laggy as go and stock despite the heavy usage I torture my arc with

I tried many, apex, nova, go launcher, stock, xperia s and also miui(using miui rom)... but I have to say that 360 launchers is better than all of them, smoother, faster and less ram usage, but yesterday I tried MIUI launcher again but this time I got it from the market using Sony ICS rom and I think works better than 360 launcher, way better, it does have few cons like that you can only change the icons using a miui theme...
But the performance is better than with anyother launcher, also you can use miui custom lockscreens...

Yup. And the combination of Apex Launcher & Blu-ray Theme is really awesome

I used to hate how the stock launcher looks like but now i kinda like it. Got bored with the ICS looks in apex and nova.
Been using Nova for quite some time and its great in terms of speed and customization options. Plus there's a backup and restore option which comes real handy for switching between roms after a full wipe. Here's how mine used to look like.:laugh:

well a launcher is an application which provides you with the user interface. It is the homescreens, the dock, the appdrawer and all the aesthetics related to them are defined by the launcher application.
I support ADW Launcher..the best one..
I tried almost 10 different launchers..but found ADW Launcher is best..
Snap review of certain launchers tested on SGA
Personally used all these launchers on the Galaxy Ace
GO Launcher EX
Definitely a very good launcher lot of customisations comes with a lot of other plugins and theme packs and companion widgets like GO Contacts, GO Weather etc. Works well on the SGA doesnt consume too much ram and very responsive and best part a lot of options which other home launchers charge for, it provides for free.
Regina 3D Launcher
As the name suggests 3D like the SPB Shell 3D but free...fairly recent app so still some bugs a bit laggy on the SGA works better if you have fair amount of free ram and not as many widget support as SPB Shell 3D. Needs other companion apps for weather support. Has lot of potential.
Slidescreen
Been around for some time, completely different launcher only single homescreen with all your notifications including Facebook, twitter, SMS, appearing on one page...not very customisable...can be used as a side launcher with another main launcher...tested on SGA...no issues with speed. In one word Simple...maybe too simple for some
Zeam Launcher
Last...and the smallest in file size...less than half an mb..but not least in functionality and speed...consumes very little ram and highly customisable...and even has gesture support built in...inspite of being such a small size...works like a charm on the SGA and looks good too...my personal favourite...does what its supposed to do launch with not making you wait for it.
personally i prefer too the zeam launcher.

Go Launcher Ex vs ADW Launcher EX??

Which do you prefer and why?? Whats the best settings to get the best performance out of each???
Personally, I really enjoy Launcherpro. It's free. Or paid if you want to re-size widgets or use their custom widgets (I suggest not, I didn't like those widgets) You really just have to try them out on your own. Launcherpro is very fast and smooth. Many transition effects. I really enjoy this launcher over the two you post about and others I have tried, and I've tried anyone you can think of.

Yeah launcherpro is the way to go
Im currently on myn 2.2 using launcherpro , and its stable , fast, and pretty ha. But how is the ADW Launcher?
As always, I have to throw my vote in for Go Launcher. So many customizable features, I love it. One tip, don't put the transition effects on "random." That does seem to slow transitions down a bit.
I always run out of screen room, so I like being able to add as many screens as I want. Plus the additional bottom icons are sweet.
ADW launcher VS. GO launcher EX (Droid x2)
I am going to have to cast my vote for Go Launcher EX.
I have tried both ADW and Launcherpro, but found Go Launcher EX to be far more customizable, and my phone seems alot more responsive. ADW seemed to make my phone lag, or feel alittle choppy, even FC at times.
Although all three have several features you can use to "make the phone your own", I think Go Launcher EX has them beat still. There is so much stuff out there for Go Launcher, it would take weeks to go through it all. True, most of it you may not need, but it tells you that the Dev's are very active.
Go launcher EX has kept me from getting bored with my Droid X2, by continuously putting new stuff out there for me to play with, so that being said, I would have to say, try Go Launcher EX!
I'm voting for Adw launcher I love everything about it. I tried go launcher it was okay seemed kind of heavy.. And I don't like that there is no option for transparent status bar.
Sent From My Evo 4G Amped Up On Verizon Tower Power!
ADW Ex ftw
Especially for customization, but it's really stable as well. Development is pretty consistent, even though I hate that they took out the two dockbars and only use the hidden one - or what used to be the hidden one.
Go Launcher Ex, as well as all Go apps, just seem... I don't know, clunky? I don't like them. They feel bloated and I don't like the way they look, some features are borderline cheesy and impractical.
However the best bet is to try both and make your own decision. If you don't want to pay for ADW Ex right away, try the free version or try Go Launcher first. If Go Launcher seems to be what you want then stick with it. Or if you like the free version of ADW, buy the pro version.
LauncherPro to me is out of the picture. The developer's lack of communication and unwillingness to help his users is one reason, but paying to resize widgets is dumb. The widgets that come with the paid LauncherPro have similar free counterparts on the Market (err, Play Store). Try out APW - Android Pro Widgets - if you want those type of widgets.
Go launcher ex with the go Widgets and a nice theme = pimpin you can make your phone look anyway you want, I have go launcher ex, adw ex, and launcher pro.plus and I always go back to GO, adw and lpp to me look unfinished and not as smooth like aosp vs sense, I love aosp but it.just looks unrefined to me I like that rounded glossy look of sense vs the more.boxy appearance of plain aosp, kinda like a '90 Lamborghini countach vs a '12 gallardo roadster ones boxy and clunky looking in the lines and ones sleek and sexy looking, and go has always been stable for me has lots of options and themes and can be set up to run very smoothly I've used it on an intercept(low end piece if crap) an evo (mid range spec wise these days) the epic touch(higher end spec wise) and a kindle fire running cm9 and it runs beautifully on all 4

[Q] what is your favorite launcher? Why?

I'm just curious, as to what people think about these different launchers.
Me personally, have used launcher pro and go launcher. I recently used ADW, to me it just tried to copy go launcher with a different drawer and few different options. I favor go launcher the most, the options are amazing. I also like SPB shell add far a looks, but not many options.
I'm sure there are some that aren't popular, but good that I may want to try.

I really, really, REALLY, want to like go launcher. but the text makes no sense. it shows up like
Code:
busyb

aller
in the app drawer and its like wtf
I like Regina launcher alot like spb except free on the market.
Zeam 2.8.8, last update before developer decided to remove widget scrolling. Lightweight and reliable with a little extra functionality.

Adw for me, was using it long before cm7. Good settings

I do jot have extensive experience with launchers. I don't like vanilla android launcher. I had the ics from acs for a few.
I always end up going back to launcher pro. I don't use many of it's options, but I like the home screen looping and the modifiable dock. Though on sure other launchers have those features too.

And now I see they have ICS launcher now on the market. So many ROMS, so many launchers, you could spend forever trying out these combinations.
I still feel like ADW copied GO launcher or vice versa. The only difference is the dock and the drawer.

Adw was first. Wayyyy first. And privacy problems with go...go is just a no...
Haha I've been a GO guy since I first downloaded it. Like an hour after release. Used less RAM than Launcher Pro and ADW and more than Zeam. It was really cool to watch it grow and become more and more comparable to them. Then it morphed into the mainstream, RAM guzzling EX that we all know today.
Using CM7 ADW now. Less RAM, snappier, and has the same functionality.
Zeam
1. Simple and fast.
2. Can customize home screen action binding for double-tapping home screen (Phone), swipe up (Phone) and swipe down (Open Notification)
3. Custom Home screen folders
4. Scrollable dock.
Most definitely Launcher Pro because you can customize the look and the widgets are awesome.

Lots of options (7 rows/6 columns = ), docks everywhere, categories with swipe navigation, fast.
I like Launcher Pro and then Go Launcher.
The great thing about Android is you can us multiple launchers and not just one. If I want to impress my Iphone friends I go with Go Launcher. If for look I love the modified Launcher Pro with the glass scroll dock. I don't like the regular Launcher Pro but the modified Launcher Pro totally rocks.
Try Espier Launcher. Its an iPhone copy. Launcher7 for WinPho 7.

My first rom, TrInItY, came with Anarchy Launcher which I think they pulled but I love the cube feature so I've been running that ever since. very customizable with docks and the viper wheel I makes it easy to have a lot of apps easily accessible.
When I first started flashing Roms, I got hooked on the ACS Syndicate Frozen Roms and they bakes LauncherPro in with their standard or slim versions.
I loved certain features of it like the homescreens being in continuous loop and the scrollable dock so you can have as many apps in your dock as you want. The thing that turned me off is that any apps you have saved to your SD card the icons will not show up when you first boot your phone, you have to restart launcherpro which was extremely annoying. I also started getting FC's.
I'm still on Syndicate Frozen, but now I'm using ADW Launcher as I didn't originally know the difference between ADW and ADW ex. I will now be switching to ex.

Someone should try to make a flashable theme for the stock build if it's possible.
Just go to your app manager, select all apps, scroll down to TW Launcher, click that and hit clear defaults then hit the home key which will give you the option between TW Launcher and Launcher. Launcher is a more vanilla ICS experience with some TW UI still intact.
Thanks KC_RUFFIAN137,

Didn't want to start a new thread on this question - but i figure someone knows the answer.
I have switched to using the "stock" ICS launcher instead of touchwiz (mainly because touchwiz still uses the horrible GB folders). I'm pretty much happy with it for now, except i want the stock ICS lockscreen! It still has the touchwiz lockscreen.
Is there anyway to remove the touchwiz lockscreen and use stock ICS (which allows unlock to camera, as well as google music player widget on the lockscreen)?
I know i can get apps on the play store, but i just want stock ICS lockscreen.
Thanks!

Honestly I would just look into Go locker on the play store, they have a lock screen that is just like the stock ICS lockscreen.
I'll check out go locker - didn't like that you had to use go launcher as well. And i'm not sure it has the Google Music Player.
Edit - maybe i don't need to use go launcher, just install it... Trying it out now.
You have to have Go launcher installed to use Go locker, but you don't have to be using it as your default launcher. I agree that there are some great looking ICS lockscreens for Go locker. I prefer Nova launcher. You can use Go launcher icon packs with it now. My favorite is Steel Blue. My phone is rooted but you can make it look like this if even if you're not. All the icons you see here are folders except the middle one in the dock.

Since January I have being mentioning it but no one pays attention the only one that paid attention was Qbking77 when on a review I gave him the tip and in next video he uses it and gave me thanks (OmarAndroid04 on YouTube). Also would like to add this has been available since SGSII E4GT release date with Good old Gingerbread.

Yes - SprintID or clearing the default launcher allows you to use the stock launcher. But you still have all the touchwiz icons, apps, lockscreen, etc.
I tried go locker, but I didn't like its music player. But I guess it will do for now.
Just an update if anyone else cares.
There are options on the play store that allow unlock to camera with an ICS theme - Go Locker, Magic Locker, Holo Locker. But none of those allow the google play music lockscreen widget to appear when playing.
But it looks like this is what i'm actually looking for:

Going to try it out tonight.

Alternative launcher?

Hi all......
I'm currently using trebuchet on CM10, and I like the basic, uncluttered, ram friendly operation......
However......
It lacks the ability to "hide" apps in the app drawer. I like the facility to be able to hide apps that I don't use much but don't want to delete (backup apps and apps that perform system tasks/tweaks). I know that some third party launchers can do this....they allow creation of folders in the drawer or can even make the app icons disappear, but some of them can be "resource hungry" which is something I don't want.
Do any of you have any recommendations as to which launcher achieves all this.....and please don't suggest "go launcher"......
Thanks in advance....

You can try nemus launcher. It should have hiding features, and is very light on ram.

Give Apex Launcher a spin! It's a feature packed launcher and it's light enough on RAM and battery consumption. It has the ability to hide apps too. I've tried Nova Launche before and the only nice feature on the free version is that it's blazing fast. You can't hide apps on the app drawer and the app drawer folders are available on the Prime version only. Well, if you love the look of the ICS Launcher and you want a feature packed, light and free 3rd party launcher, give Apex Launcher a try!
Whew! So much for advertising!
I use Nova Launcher, personally.
Besides, Nova Free has some feature that Apex requires Pro version. Although Nova has a Prime version too.

Thanks for the suggestion Kreaz, but I tried nova and found it somehow less fluid in use than trebuchet.....it seemed more jittery....
......mind you, that was BEFORE we all heard about SEEDER.....lol

for ram friendly try zeam launcher,,for other things that you mentioned you can try nova launcher..
You could give Smart Launcher a try. It's a smooth and fluid launcher in my opinion and has a much simple design.

My vote is for Nova Launcher. Not that it's *the* best, but it's the one I'm most comfortable with.
Another launcher that I liked, but others haven't mentioned, is ADW Launcher EX. It's the one I'm using on my tablet.
And, if you're a design-oriented person, you might fall in love with Lightning Launcher. It is also by far *the* lightest launcher I ever used.

Seems like I'm the only Apex Launcher lover here. ADW Launcher and the EX version of it is also very nice although it's not my cup of tea. Lightning Launcher is also very nice although you only get 1 homescreen. Other good and light launchers are Nemus Launcher and Zeam Launcher. Although the latter hasn't received updates over 2012, it's still nice and functional.

Slight correction: Lightning Launcher has no concept of "paged" home screen, but it's smoothly* scrollable (swipeable?) without bounds to all directions (up down left right), and stops at the extreme position of screen element).
*smooth here means not based on icons; one can scroll a "half-icon" width, or even for only several pixels.
