Hey all, Sorry for the NOOB question here..
I've come over to a HTC OneV from a Desire Z.. On the DesireZ I had CWM installed and quite happy at installing customroms etc.. Currently my OneV (GSM) is still running stockRom, but it regularly hangs freezes so I thought id try an alternative rom...
Reading through the threads Im kinda confused.. and thought Id ask the experts.
1. On the DesireZ I used to use CWM to install roms, on many of these threads I see fastboot and cwm being mentioned... Am I correct in saying that you can use both? But fastboot is done from the PC , pushing the rom to the phone, whereas CWM is done on the phone itself???
2. The all-in-one tool looks awesome.. still valid?
3. On the desireZ page there was a nice list of "roms", ranked on when they were updated. With OneV, this list appears to be inaccurate.. Simply a case of needs to be updated ??
4. Id love to try CM10, but as I need to use the phone for work I need it to be reliable... is CM10 stable, Loirs rom look good..
Many thanks, Ill avoid asking the standard "Which is the best rom" as I know its horses for courses -)
Again thanks for the time.
Angelo
1.Fastboot is usually to flash a kernal as most roms require a certain kernal that isn't stock, if you want to flash a rom just use CWM,
2.Never tried it...
3.Different forums...Most roms are still in beta anyways,
4.It's good, still in beta but overall is very usable.
Ok bro,
Firstly u can install only kernels through pc,
u have to flash roms in recovery,
and secondly i tried cm10 it can't be used for everyday use,
i currently use cm9 rc3 which is great,i did try the tool kit, it works
Sent from my One V using xda app-developers app
thanks Guys,
Questions answered
I'll probably stick to either CM9 rc3, I know it well I might try the Suprimo rom as I do like some of the Sense stuff
m telling u cm9 is best
Click thanks if i helped

Hint taken
Hey cybervibin
As you noted in another thread I successfully rooted and installed CM9, although I did scare myself convinced that Id bricked it with the kernel.. it turns out that the instructions need to be a little clearer, in that you MUST flash the kernel, and then immediately flash Cm9, otherwise it will hang.. its strange that i didnt see this issue with my desireZ, i used the same kernel for over a year...
One feature which doesnt work too well is bluetooth headset, the stock rom works v. well here.. the phone rings and it automagically connects to the bluetooth headset and voice streams.. whereas at the moment, I need to
1. phone rings
2. answer it
3. then press (maybe and hold) button on the headset, then its ok..
this means there's about 3-4 seconds after the call comes in delay.. not a biggie but strange..
Also going from BT to handset/speaker works but not the otherway around...
Is this fixed in RC4??
Next is to find some of the Sense4.0 widgets I liked.. and install them here...
thanks again
Hey man,
See these are unofficial Roms they have their own kernels which is compatible only with that specific ROM....
SO after u fastboot the kernel given in that thread there is no problem,
and so far i have tested the Bluetooth feature it worked pretty fine,
u cant expect it to work perfectly cause its still under. Work,
u should post that problem in the cm9 problem thread
And no RC4 is a security fix u can see the details in the below link

Hi there, long story short - with revolution and leedroid my flash player isn't working correctly (when I load some site with flash based banners in it I got error massage: "page cannot be displayed check...and so on" on their place+some flash based video players on sites are not working). I tried to reinstall the flash player, turn off/on my phone, etc,but without any luck. I did full wipe when I installed the roms+I checked md5. I also tried tb-stock - on it banners looks fine, but still can't play video on some sites :/. I just don't know what the issue is. The roms where installed going with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11557769 it was easy and run smoothly, except the f*c*ed up flash... (with is a problem, because I use my device as tablet a lot). Btw, as I am asking, is there any simple method to reverse my phone to stock, just asking in case noone can't help with my personal drama(I backed up the downgraded rom, if that helps).
I searched the forum+roms threads, but didn't find anyone else with that problem. Sorry for my incompetence on the matter, and I hope you can/want to give me some tips. Thanks in advance .
P.S. Also, sorry if that's not the right place for this thread, but I think it suit it best (I can't post in the dev section - 10 post rule ftw ).
have you tried a different kernel?
Yes, same :/. It all began with my desire to overclock... tried unity_v2 for example on the revolution(as it was adv from 2-3 people around), but it's the same, didn't help at all.
LeeDrOiD updated to 3.2.0 fixed the issue 100 %.
There is also a 3.2.1 patch available dl using ROM Manager to sort out any very minor lag you may have. Works for some, not others.
I have never had lag (Edit: in current build) or his last few builds running everything as per my signature.

I saw leedroid 3.2 changelog and hope the same as you say, but when I installed it... same thing :/. Btw, leedroid lags, when for instance I watch video from youtube(yes, youtube works, tho it crashes a lot..), there is like slowdown-normal speed-slow down-normal speed, but thats not the main issue(or have something to do with the f*c*ed flash player. I just don't get it, I did everything as it should be done, its not hard... and I get that bug, but noone else got it, lol wut :<. Some other idea? What I do wrong?
EDIT: The problems was caused from adfree part of the roms as it seems, I will research more on the subject after work, but it defo looks like that. All my thankfulness goes to mike1986, and all that helped me out.
Full wipe all available partitions to ext4 before flashing ROM with latest CWM ext4 version.
Make sure you don't restore system apps and data, particularly flash. Don't want to carry one bug from ROM to ROM.

I get all 3 of them. I really appreciate you take so much time to answer me. Thank you again .

ok ok yeah i am a noob to this htc evo rooting and things im sorry honestly it is the reason i got the phone so i could root it.... but i have had this phone now since august doing excatly what you stated i should do right at signing up for this site.... read search read more and more and more and keep searching... so now after months and hours of this i believe im atleast ready to root.. i have sprint replacing my htc evo with a brand new one due to arrive any day and im planning to root right out of box... im using rooting method i found here ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865204 .... ive downloaded all the files and programs as instructed even copied the thread as so i can read each step agian as preforming it... SORRY A BIT LONG WINDED ... my question is this i want wifi tethering basicly i got the wifi tethering download from ... http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=Evo ... is this all i need to open my wifi hotspot free???? and also since ive done all this reading and digging i found alot of info confusing and or unorginized sorry just hard to search and find things is all but i am also looking for a wolf theme set and a mod also but finding most themes in title only no pics and mods with no discriptions ... basicly is there one member with whom i my chat with to help with these issues and point the right way or place to find what im looking for???
sorry one more thing im also going to be activating my second line on my sprint account and getting another phone one with a full slide out keyboard and will need to do this with that phone as well .... what phone would be the easiest and best to do so with....
Yes, if you use the wireless / wifi tether app, you're set for tethering.
Also, if you want a theme made, go ask in the themes/apps section, they'll help you out there. I know billbowers does themes for a fact.
Also your root method will depend on the hboot, so check it before you root it, and do NOT any OTAs before you root.
Also, you'll have to do the appropriate root method for the extra phone.
Theres a few roms out there that has all that integrated into the rom and theres themes made already for those roms, heres a few threads that have what you want...

There's only 2 phones with slide-out qwerty keyboards at this time, running Android. The HTC Shift and the Samsung Epic. Shift you would be pseudo familiar with, being from the HTC lineup. Epic on the other hand may be a little different than what you have read so far, especially if the phone is running Gingerbread. Good luck.
thanks for the info and will follow up on the leads you have given very helpful thank you

Sounds like a dirty flash. Did you start a fresh install, wipe everything, prior to installing the new one? If you just flashed over the other build, merging/meshing may occur, but at least it was usable.?

Thanks again i was able to figure it out.. I wiped lol BIG HELP!
I've been trying diff ROM's on my Samsung Gio ...but every ROM i try i have the same issue with my data connection...data won't work until i toggle it.
I tried 2 versions of "Particle ROM". It's a GREAT one! I would have to toggle airplane mode ON, then OFF to get the data to work. If the screen timed out, I had to do it again.
I just installed GioPro 1.4 ROM and my data is also wonky. I have to toggle it still..
I had NO issue with the stock ROM. I didn't back it up before flashing. I didn't want it any way..it was practically useless. Install one or 2 apps and you were out of memory. Useless!
Any ideas?
Stock rom useless ?
I have stock rom and has a very good performance and battery life. Why are you saying this ?
BTW, those 2 roms you tried i think they have that data bug, it's not your fault.

I know those 2 are in developement (in fact, are there any ROM's for the Gio that aren't? ) ...i don't have time to fully investigate each thoroughly, however, skimming through the forums, i don't recall seeing anyone with this issue. Maybe I'm wrong?
The stock ROM was terrible on battery, and I ran out of memory after installing a few essential apps. I didn't even have room for the upgrades when they were available. I found myself having to install apps, use them, the uninstall them so I could install others that I needed, then uninstall those to re-install the ones I previously uninstalled, and so on and so on and so on....
Are there any complete ROM's?

have you tried using a stock rom with phiezx custom kernel? I'm using [Kernel]Custom kernel for stockrom with alot of feature [Update: January 31, 2012] and a2sd works as well as swap and cpu toggle. so far i'm happy with it perhaps its what you're looking for. make sure to flash clockwork mod so you can make backups and restore at any time to the previous rom if unhappy.

If you root your device then you can easily overcome this problem on stock rom. You'll have to make an ext partition on your sd card and then download link2sd from market. Then using link2sd, just keep system files on internal and move all apps and their lib/dex files to your sdcard's ext.
On my stock 2.3.3 I had 75+ apps installed with still 100MB free on internal.

Bumping!
Really need some help on this...
Tried many diff ROM's now, with same result. Data only works intermittently. Some ROMs have required my intervention to get data to work (temporarily work), while other ROMs require no intervention; data goes on and off by itself.
Do i need to flash a new radio? Where would I get a radio for the Canadian BELL variant of the Gio. Upon bootup, the screen says it's S5660, no M, or L, or V, etc.
Today I installed the ICS from here:
http://www.blogotechblog.com/2012/01/how-to-install-ice-cream-sandwich-on-samsung-galaxy-gio-s5660/
Still same thing is happening. This ROM is one the one's in which the data turns itself off and on. It happens to frequent to be useable.
I've tried several of the more popular Gio ROM's.
I REALLY NEED SOME HELP HERE PLEASE.
I'm stumped!
Thanks!
So, just reverted back to STOCK and there have been no issues with data connection.
Why won't this thing work with any other ROM?
I've used popular ROM's that have NOT been known to have issues with the data connection.
I don't understand.

Check your model number against the base rom used to make the custom. For example, I have an SHW-M290K, so GT-S5560 roms cause bluetooth, wifi and sensors to not work.

Not sure...do they often list that info? Will check tho.
Up and running now...
Here's what I done (sounds like a real Redneck?)
Had to flash the original ROM back on it. Make sure that data connection worked...and it was ROCK SOLID...
WIPE EVERYTHING! Factory reset code *2767*3855#,
Flashed CWM for KANG's ICS ROM, flashed KANG's ICS ROM, wipe everything, (factory reset code doesn't seem to work in ICS).
Data was flakey for the 1st few minutes, but now seems to be ROCK SOLID.

And try not to install many apps on your device as it will slow it down
And try getting some task killer from store to kill running apps
And wait for the devs to provide root for ur device

you can kill some tasks from htc stock app called Task Manager. It should be already in your phone. Im a new user also
DON'T USE TASK KILLERS!!! try factory reset or try replacing it from seller because i think you got a faulty one.

Here at MoDaCo
The modded boot.img you can get it from the link I provided there.
Once you are rooted, more or less you are like having a custom ROM as you can start your own customization. The problem is there is no CWM yet so no nandroid can be made or custom ROM to be flashable. But there is a workaround on that, maybe a dev of custom rom can put the custom ROM as a signed update.zip, so in recovery it will flash the custom ROM.
But to do this, a user must have an official RUU for this phone in hand in case something goes wrong.
Thankss anyway.
Oh ya, why cant i get any skins on customize htc one v. I cant get more skins, i only have 3 which are too ordinary

As stated above, do not use a task killer application. The android OS installed on the device should be able to manage applications correctly already. Using a task killer will just eat up more resources.
But if I don't use then device ll get slow

Then you should use a custom ROM for your cellular provider'.
Wait a couple of weeks and you should be able to use a good custom ROM that someone here has created. It will allow you to do much more than that which was offered stock (for example: improved battery life, faster response, etc... )

I wouldn't mind starting a custom rom but I haven't started as of now as i am in south africa and haven't rooted my phone....Also there is no custom recovery currently..I would make a signed update.zip also but I wouldn't test it and one of you guys would have to test because I wouldn't risk my device until I have a custom recovery(safe way) ....
Let's wait instead...as yorzua couldn't offer me help with cwm I have asked madmaxx82 to try porting 4ext recovery as we have many willing testers including me...

Hello Everyone!
First of all I want to say that this is not directly help for me, but for my girlfriend. I dont know you guys, but she is tired of her stock ROM since it freezes a lot of times, and yes, I have checked it, I tried updating, hardreset...etc and after a week the phone gets a lot of performance issues.
So my question is, I would like a modified ROM from the official last update if it exist, I mean that everything is working on the phone and it is of course faster than stock phone. This is not a questions "which is the best" nope, I just want to hear your reccommendations because I am not a user of this phone and I dont know very well all different versions etc. Furthermore I have read a lot on the forums, and i have a small idea what could work for this case.
for example:
Since this is a mod from a Stock ROm, It shoudnt has any problem, Isnt it?

My big concern is that Im not the user of the phone, and you now what happens with "users" if something is not working...

You can use WinDroid 2.0 toolkit. If u want good ROM... Ignorance is really good but try something from higher shelf HTCdroid. It's the best ROM for HTC One V! The smoothest and the fastest. But a lot of ROMs has one issue. Data usage doesn't work... Why? I don't know I'm working on it but here is one ROM what haven't got it it's MoDaCo.one Ir2 here it works. But it's outdated so use newer ROM like Ignorance!

Im starting the process, man this stock ROM gives problems even while sync contacts
If you are tired of sense shpongle is the way to go. If you are okay with it, pick htcdroid. Both best in its classes. Htcdroid seems bugless or only minor bugs visible while shpongle got camera dead - you need 3rd party apk.
