And was patched in August, sadly because of carriers having to approve of updates, many have not seen the fix yet.
Try that link with your android browser and see if your dialer exposes your imei number, if it does nothing then we're ok
Anyway, I think its only for samsung devices running touchwhizzed

This is absolutely WRONG!
I've tested this bug today on 4 devices without TouchWiz, including a Galaxy Nexus with 4.0.4, and it WORKS!
The only safe device I saw was my Galaxy Nexus with 4.1.1 stock rom. All the rest were vulnerable! Be careful!
This is definitely going to have to be addressed, I'm surprised no one has caught it sooner

Then you should submit your results to Samsung. All of my phones bring up the dialer. That's not the issue. Only my SGS Vibrant on Android 4.0.3 brings up my IMEI as well from the stock browser. That's the issue.
Chrome is unaffected.
Just did it to my ns and gnex and I'm good

The new beta works just fine, talk to Samsung about their f'd up kernel and leaks ....it runs great on galaxy nexus
So it's not chrome it's probably Samsung not having full hardware acceleration right in the leaks etc

There have been rumors of such but who knows...yea in az I don't have 4g so didn't matter between wimax and lte, but #1 thing I love is the same recovery all the time no built in kernel junk team win recovery is nice too...that makes it worth it to me and makes it really easier to run aokp , crossbones, cm9 , liquid smooth, miui ....and any kernel works vzw gsm ..no crazy odin el26 & flash or you brick your phone.. Not to sound like a **** or anything, but the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit would easily allow you to unlock the bootloader and flash Google's stock factory image for 4.0.4. Much easier than waiting for it OTA...

Samsung are the ones to handle their own specific versions of ICS for the Galaxy Nexus.
Google manages in no way the various yakjuXX (where XX defines a region number) releases.

Why would you believe a tech rep to have any clue about this? Of course they are going to give out wrong info.
Its like the people who actually believe what a Verizon sales person says. They just work it as a job making $11 an hour in high school. How would they know anything or care.

Now, I don't want to make rumors or anything, but this isn't a rumor. Listen to my line of logic for a second, even if the SGH-t989 doesn't get Jelly Bean, the SkyRocket will at which point a complete, stable version of Jelly Bean can be ported. Know that we know it's incoming, we just need to play a waiting game..

They mentioned Galaxy S II LTE, which is identical to the T989. So even if it's not released to T-Mobile officially one of the great devs here will port it, no doubt.

I think it's safe to assume most people that have moved from a Nexus to an S3 wouldn't continue to lurk in the Nexus forums. Probably best to ask in the S3 forums :good:
I love my Nexus and will always stay Nexus for the stock Android experience and abundance of ROMs. That said though I did try a S3 4g/LTE model today and was MIGHTY impressed with how snappy it was with Jellybean.
I've been tempted several times. Its the physical buttones that are holding me back.
I recently had the chance to get it myself. But I couldn't do it. I was looking at the aosp development, and from what I'm used to it was weak. I could live with touchwiz but I just don't like it. The physical keys where also a downer. Just something I wouldn't like to give up. And since i already have a quad core tablet there really was nothing besides a better camera and even then the gnex camera is pretty good I don't listen to what others say I know what I've seen it do.

I have both as well (SGS2 being my daily phone) and for me (my own personal preference) both the GNex and SGS3 has their own perks in their respective right. With that being said, if i had to choose, my GNex will come out on top each time. But my SGS3 is a damn good device.

The latest Touchwiz is pretty bad. I had TW ICS on my tab2 and just recently we got TW JB on the tab2. I don't know if the SGS3 will get something similar but this latest version of TW JB on my Tab 2 is slow, the browser force closes and the interface has been changed for the worst. The ICS version of TW was better than this newest version they have released.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I have both and most of the time use my s3 for the battery life. If I want to try something new or interesting I'll usually do it on the nexus. As far as bad aosp goes I'm not sure what you're smoking, we get nightly cm10 builds consistently. I'm currently running the m2 release and it's perfectly suitable for every day use. Prior to this I was running paranoid and it was great. M2 just has better battery life. Also while they do get worse battery life than touch wiz it's still better than my nexus.

lolno.
Well a lot of people I know have the s3. A lot.
Anyway...I've had a lot of opportunities to play with it. It is very very very fast first and foremost!
I've mostly played with the ICS versions. So smooth and a real joy to use. The nature UX is also very nice. Its one of the best android skin I've used from any OEM I think. They finally moved away from trying to mimic the IOS look and feel with the UI which is good.
I've tried the jellybean version of the s3 just once and to be honest I could not tell a big difference. That's because the s3 is awesome with speed and responsiveness even with ICS.
The screen is excellent also, and the feel and look of the handset in the hand is nice. It looks a lot like the galaxy nexus with buttons.
I would not move to the s3 as a full time replacement for the galaxy nexus however. Simple reason being that I had the galaxy note and waiting for ICS and Jellybean was not my thing.
I'm too comfortable with quick stock updates from my nexus s days. Plus the main reason also...the galaxy nexus is insanely fast and smooth already!

It's not really old news when the phone is highly fast with continuing development from developers on XDA.
The phone itself is running the latest firmware whereas phones coming out today are being released on Ice Cream Sandwich rather than Jelly Bean.
Most of the apps we use don't even utilize quad-cores. Yet alone, they might not even need dual-cores. Not even close to being outdated.

Software wins out over hardware always. There's a reason the phone that must not be named performs so smoothly on weaker hardware (not the newest one which is much superior hardware wise).

You can pump all the newest hardware into a phone, but the newest and best hardware doesn't do anything if the software side of things is crap.
