I gave my wife my old Nexus One. Recently she dropped it and cracked the screen, badly. The phone still works as well as the touch.
But if I were to get her a new phone as a gift, which one would be a better choice nowadays?
STOP POSTING THESE THREADS AND READ THE OTHERS, please.
Buy a Galaxy Nexus, you won't be disappointed.
Give her your phone and get yourself a Nexus
Galaxy Nexus
or possibly Galaxy Note if a larger phone is preferable
I own a galaxy nexus and i have no complaints whatsoever....like...at all.
But if you don't already own the galaxy nexus...i would get the galaxy s III...its rumored to have a quad core exynos processor and IMO get that...its a newer phone and probably the same price.
@people getting annoyed at these threads - this is a FORUM...for people to post questions and comments...if you don't like it don't comment and clutter the thread with useless posts.
Imo galaxy nexus is better in every possible way, but I think s2 has better design. More professional look

Since this is the gn forum then most will blindly suggest the gn.
Assuming your wife is not a techy person (u gave her an old nexus one), i think the gs2 would suite her better. Better camera (women love taking pictures right) and sd card support (for even more pics and media) and now has official ics.

Actually I disagree. Gnex has faster shutter speed. Which means almost never miss the moment. My gf always *****es about blurry shots. I never have this issue with my Gnex

get her a nokia 5110 thats undestructable! hehe just jokin!! wait till the sgs3 gets out, get yourself the gsg3 and give her your nexus and wrap her hands with 2 sided tape!
If you want a non biased opinion, don't post your question in the G-Nex forum. LOL...
That said, I would recommend getting the SGS II. It's smoking fast, thin, and has gorilla glass. Good battery life when set up properly. Did I mention it's really fast?

S2 has better design?? When it comes to phones, nothings says "sexy beautiful" better than a curved screen.
If you want the "professional look" get something with a physical keyboard.
i'd say S2 out of the box is more user friendly to ladies
not everyone knwows how to appreciate vanilla android
speaking from personal experience, i bought her a new Gnex for her and i use her S2
well, i have always prefer older phone as the dev is better and more rom to choose from (i was a super vibrant user)
less than 2 weeks, she wanted her S2 back and gave me back my Gnex. LOL
she think S2 is more user friendly and has better quality pix
Barring the screen, which is almost as good as the Gnex, I would say SGS 2, as it is miles better than the nexus. SGS 2 is a lot faster.
Camera on Nexus isn't really good enough for a phone, SGS2 Camera is miles better.
SGS 2 is an 9/10 phone, the nexus is a 7/10 phone.

When a new phone comes we all wonder, man the new htc is what I want and it has better camera, and the gps is amazing and SIRI wannabe, quad core exynos and 1080p super amoled +(this would be too much lol) ... I just want you guys to remember the we live in the best years of our lives and we don't appreciate it sometimes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Now I can say for myself that I still think galaxy nexus is the best phone in the market even tho s voice and quad core is coming out, I don't really needed and I think I won't use it(had Siri for 6 months and didn't use it much ) and I hope this help for people that always think about the next big thing.
You're right... we do live in the best years of our lives.... but its also made us too reliant on technology and a bunch of spoiled brats...
I was around for all those things he spoke of in the Video and can relate... but I guess everything is relative to every generation... Each one more spoiled then the previous.
Guess in 30 years when our cars fly themselves this generation would be like "Damn, we used to drive, uphill, bothways, on a paved road!"
Lol
Lol. This was great.

Louis is amazing, thanks for the post lol
but yeah, people expect so much and are quick to dismiss something great based off one thing they aren't attracted to... kind of sad but that's the way the world works now, its only the few that can appreciate something's significance and the rest just complain that it isn't good enough.
We gotta hand it to the 2nd group of people though, the ones who are never happy are the ones innovating and providing the rest of us with cooler things although I believe everyone should appreciate everything regardless

I stopped into the att store today and played around with the one x they had in there. Man it was beautiful in white and in grey. The fit and finish is amazing and the screen is gorgeous... looks a bit better than my GSM nexus and the look of the device was nicer as well. Too bad the rest of the experience let me down. I don't know if it was sense or what but it wasn't nearly as snappy. I know its got more muscle but it hangs in spots for some reason and browsing on it sucked! What's the point in all that beauty and horsepower when the function of the phone doesn't respond in kind? I'd love for the next nexus to be a bit more pretty in design but this thing just works. The major failure in android so far is that manufacturer customization so far has mostly detracted from the function of the phone compared to stock. The galaxy nexus, in GSM form at least is still the high bar other android phones need to measure against. I love this phone. For that, I don't think I'll have a real choice in the future between a nexus and any others. Unless a non nexus gets true stock android there will probably be something letting it down. I think the one x or others could be as good or better overall than this phone if they had just included some phone specific apps to differenciate and left everything else stock and unlocked.
Before anyone says to just put on cm or other aosp on those other devices, unless they are unlocked and have drivers available, they tend to have things missing or unstable when going stock android.

It hit me the other day that I've actually had this phone for almost half a year. It still feels brand new to me, and I marvel at how fresh it still feels with minimal maintenance.
My GS1, Desire HD, and Focus never quite ticked all the boxes, and I had to jump through hoops to get them to operate how I wanted then to. My one and only wish is for the next Nexus to be Note-sized (I pretty much only read books on my phone now). That's not happening, so I'm as pleased with the Nexus as I'll ever be with a phone.

So there i was cleaning my room -.-' and as i was cleaning i found my old nexus one. It was dead, so I plugged it in.
When i turned the device on, a lot of memories came to mind, as the progress google has made.
But then as i was looking trough it i noticed that it felt kind of fast for it to be a 3 years old. So I put my Gnex running jellybean next to it.
To my surprise every action was faster on the Nexus One? Odd but yeah. Openning Applications like the clock, calendar, browser, settings.
How come a three year old device is faster than the galaxy nexus, i know the gnex has a lot more things to process as well as the size of the screen, but common really? I guess im going to use it as an mp3 player now.
Screen resolution I would guess, gnex is pushing out android in HD 720p and nexus one is what 800x600 perhaps roughly. Also older versions of android I expect are much less complex than jelly bean. The only fair way to test is do a test of stock JB on each device and see which fares better then, but still you have to take into concideration just how many more pixels gnex is pushing out. Cool story though

You could never damage your brain from THC. Just sayin.
I have both too. If you run stock on both (gingerbread vs jelly bean), there is certainly no way the gnex is slower...
For one, the touch response on n1 was pretty bad... its not slow, but to say its faster than gnex is a bit odd.

My N1 is sitting in it's cradle on my kitchen bar and has become an e-mail alert system--I can see the flashing track ball from most points in my main living area when an e-mail comes in.
One place the Galaxy Nexus really excels over the Nexus One is as a music player. I was never impressed with the sound quality of the N1. And with low impedance headphones, there is a periodic thumping sound/artifact, about one thump per second. The Galaxy Nexus, on the other hand, has some of the best sound quality I've heard on a portable music player--at least as good or better than my iPod Classic 120GB.
That brings up one thing the N1 had that I really miss--a microSD card slot. I wish the GN had a modern microSD slot--I'd love to have a 64GB SDXC microSD card in it. I get around this by mounting a flash drive via USB OTG that contains my music collection, but it's definitely not ideal.

I still want to buy Samsung Galaxy Nexus I9250, i'm fanscinated by its 4.6-inch, 720 x 1280 pixels Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen.
But i have several question.
is it having a nice battery time? Is the dual-core processor making everything run smoothly?
How about the auto-rotate feature?
(attached the link here: http://dx.com/p/samsung-galaxy-nexu...uper-amoled-wi-fi-and-gps-black-118551?item=4 , so you can get the correct one and give me suggestion), thanks!
Whether it's running you apps smoothly depends on what you will be running, but the processor is pretty good.
Battery time, about 3-4h screen on time, depends on how you are going to stretch it.
The battery time varies depending what you having running in the background (apps, widgets, etc) but for it gets me through a day no problem.
With the new version jellybean its very smooth. Im not sure how it is for 3d gaming because I don't play those.
And yes, it does auto rotate nicely.
I really like this phone, but with Google's big announcement upcoming with perhaps the announcements of the release of the new smartphone and phablet Nexus models, you might want to wait since there's nothing worse than buyer's remorse.

I have determined that smartphones these days are all about the user experience. The Gnex is behest of any nonsensical bloatwares that mfg loves to apply on an otherwise good phones (you know those ones). Google intends the Nexus devices to be pure unadulterated Android experience. As such it runs fast and smooth.
Add the large dev community behind it that constantly create new roms and kernels for it. Therefore the Gnex will continuously improve.
With the Galaxy Nexus, you can also be certain that most apps will run great on it. Not just because of its pretty great specs, but also because because the Gnex is often regarded as the benchmark phone when building an app.
One downside I can think of right now is probably the not-so-stellar live wallpaper performance, especially the scrolling ones. Even on jellybean, some of the stock live wallpapers still trails behind when navigating between homescreens.

Trust me, you will not be disappointed. And for the price? It's a friggin steal. Everything is super smooth. If you are gonna root (which I hope you will) there are plenty of roms that increase performance. But even if you don't, it is extremely smooth, all round.
Developer support is unmatched
But, if you are willing to spend some more cash, I'd say wait for the Google announcements. We'll definitely be seeing at least one more nexus.

I won a free galaxy s3 for Christmas through my job(sprint) but i currently have a galaxy nexus. I'm torn between the two. The gs3 has more ram and a faster processor but little to no support for 4.2. Im addicted to 4.2 and most the ROMs for the gs3 or in some form based on touchwiz which i absolutely hate. From a quick look the ROMs based on aosp or cm10 are either still in the early stages of beta or not enough attention is given to developer or his work to motivate for further development. I guess im just spoiled by such a broad range of choices with nexus devices that I'm having to come here to ask for advise or input on what you guys think about the gs3 as a daily phone vs the gnex.

I'd say at this point in time of you can handle the wait you should wait for 1080p devices. 720 is more than adequate but just like the jump from 30 to 60fps there is a difference.

Pixels have nothing (or at least very little)to do with it its the display size, brightness and tech that affect battery life. Resolution is unchanging.

But the GPU needs more juice to push more pixels. Granted that they are using smaller nm scales for SoCs now which means more performance for less power however the extra effort for the resolution could negate this. Let's hope you're right and at worst battery life stays the same!
