[Q] Kindle fire Soft-bricked( i assume) - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So recently, i was trying to install a custom rom and accidentally deleted the external storage. now, when i try to boot it is stuck at the TWRP
Kindle Fire logo. i can go into TWRP boot menu, but my computer won't recognize my kindle since it can never fully boot. how do i unbrick/ reset if i cannot connect to my computer? This is probably a post redone multiple times but if anyone could link me or help me out i would appreciate it very much. i will try to answer any/all feedback asap and thank you.

I know clockwork mod gives you the option to mount storage in recovery. Idk about twrp. Boot it up and see. I'm not familiar with the kindle fire but I'd it has an SD card slot you can pur the SD in your PC, copy the ROM.zip file over to it, stick it back in the kindle and flash the ROM from twrp.

Thanks for helping! Unfortunately, kindle fire has no SD slot or external storage.
i believe that i am using twrp v2.2.2.1 if that helps anyone.
I Haven't deleted my OS because it says i have 5000 mb free out of 8000, but im still not sure what the problem is

Reboot into your twrp recovery and see if you have the option to mount storage. If you do, do it. Drop the ROM onto your storage and flash via twrp.

Remember that I am not a Kindle Fire expert. In fact, I have never held one in my hands. However, I did find this tool that is used to unbrick a kindle fire. It might help you. It is a stickie on the main page of Android Development for Kindle Fire:

The image isn't all that great. I can make out a TWRP folder at the top. If this is the root to your device, all you would have to do is drag and drop the downloaded ROM into this location, power your device down, reboot into TWRP recovery and choose to install ROM from SD or whatever it is, navigate to the rom and choose to install it.
Edit: I believe I see a text file for fix permissions, a recovery.img file and an update file for the kindle fire...

Before you go to far you are not bricked. Just simply select mount then hit the big button drag and drop a rom zip and gapp zip to your sdcard.Do all the wipes minus your external storage/sdcard after unmounting then flash rom and then gapps, select reboot then system if prompted.
Edit: And don't flash that bin file or you will have nothing but problems.

Any luck on un-bricking your soft bricked kindle?

Yeah, i was trying to restore it by flashing the update but i looked through my files on my kindle and it wasnt there

The blue Kindle Fire logo and boot menu you see is not TWRP, it's FireFireFire.
What happens when you select "reset boot mode"? "recovery"?

Since you are on CM10, you can get GAPPS from their website.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Gapps#Google_Apps
You want the GAPPS for CM10. Good choice in ROM IMO.
Edit: You flash GAPPS from your Kindle this way:
1. Download GAPPS from the link above
2. Scroll Down on the notification bar at the top
3. Tap the GAPPS.ZIP file
4. ROM Manager Opens
5. Leave the bottom box checked and tap OK
6. TAP OK again and the device will reboot into recovery and install GAPPS

I need help to fix my kindle fire

Hello i need some help to fix my kindle fire. I was using the kf utility to try and root my fire and some how deleted my system files so when it reboots it goes to the twrp screen and when I try to reboot from there it says there is an error and system wont boot. I just got my kf a week ago and I am perplexed with fixing it, being I am used to Android 4.0, I would be thankfull for any help i could get.
Thanks very much racerx....
Download a rom on your computer. Hook the fire up to the usb port. In twrp, mount the sdcard and push the rom to the kindle. Unmount and install the rom from twrp. Reboot and enjoy.

In TWRP go to mount, and mount as a USB drive. Then side-load a rom into any of the sd card folders. Custom rom or if you want to return to stock Kindle, download the latest update, change it from a bin to a .zip file, and load that.
Then, still in TWRP, choose to install the rom you loaded, and let it go from there.
Hah, didn't see Ixthusdan's reply, or else I wouldn't have posted dup info, sorry!
Install this Jelly Bean ROM. Sweetest thing ever.

I sent you a pm or we can just play post tag. Unread your private messages. Just use kfu to reinstall twrp, get into recovery, mount your sdcard, transfer a rom to your sdcard, unmount your sdcard, wipe everything except your sdcard or external storage , flash the rom and reboot.
If you can give us more detailed information up front and more than just two to three word answers to questions we can help you far more easily and accurately. We need as much information as possible as to what you are experiencing so that we know how to help and guide you in the right direction.
That being said if you have twrp installed you need to start there with a complete wipe, wipe the cache dalvik cache and system and do a factory reset. If you don't already have a Rom or Amazon kindle update transferred to your device you can click mount in twrp and then click mount usb. This will make the kf visible to your pc when connected via usb cable and allow the transfer.

[Q] Please help kf stuck

Hi everyone, First let me say I am not tech savvy but I will try my best to explain whats wrong with my kindle fire. I just got a kf yesterday and today I broke it. I downloaded [Root][TWRP][FFF][CWM]Kindle Fire Utility v0.9.6 and it went fine but a little while after I booted to the screen twrp recovery screen and for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to wipe )cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, system, and external storage) I thought this would just free up space on my kf but when I tried to boot it after I did this it went to the boot screen with the word (Fire) in blue then the screen goes black and the same screen is ther with the word (Fire) in blue. After that the regular boot screen poops up with the word (Fire) in orange and this is where the kf gets stuck and wont do anything. When I try to rerun the kindle fire utility it cant find my device but it could find it before I wiped everything.
I don't know what to do. I can get back to the twrp recovery and that's it.There are things I can click on but I don't know what they mean and what to do. The things I can click on are (install, backup, restore, wipe, mount, settings, advanced, reboot).
I don't know if it matters but i am using windows vista
Thank yous for any help I will really appreciate it as I don't have really any money and saved to get this kf and was so happy to have it but now feel so dumb and very sad for breaking it and I am sorry if this question has been answered before or if I didn't explain it very well.
Connect your kindle to your pc, enter recovery, select mount there should be checks in the boxes of sdcard and cache, hit the big mount button hopefully you should see whats left of your sdcard contents on your computer screen. Drag and drop this rom zip into that window http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439916 not that altrom that is for dual booting. When finished select unmount, unplug your Kindle wipe everything except your external storage/ sdcard, select install and tap on the rom zip you just transferred, swipe to flash. When it`s done select reboot system. Initial boot will take a bit be patient. Good luck.

Okay I just downloaded http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439916 and I plugged in my kindle fire and the only thing I see when I mount my kindle is a twrp folder,Back up folder, and a folder with a bunch of 0000000000's also two things Fix_permissions & recovery so where should I drop the file? Or am I screwed that I don't see my sdcard? Thank you for the help I really appreciate it.

No checks needed just wipe and flash drop the zip in the window don't place it in any of the folders just out in the open. Its very good that your sdcard will mount if it didn't you would have big problems I don't forsee you having any trouble getting it going. Flash the ROM in zip form do not extract it.

[Q] Unable to view internal storage

After deciding to put my Kindle Fire HD to use as something other than a .cbr reader I rooted my Kindle and tried to flash it. (sorry if I'm using the wrong terms I'm a noob) I was able to root it. After following the guide I was using further and enter a bunch of stuff into the command prompt and having to reboot again I got stuck on the KindleFire start up screen with a blue "Fire". I can access the TWRP menu by holding the Vol. Up button but my Kindle isn't appearing on my computer so I can't copy the CM10.1 custom ROM to install it.
I believe that all I need to do is somehow copy the CM10.1 custom ROM file to my Kindle but I can't figure out a way to do it. I'm running Win 7 on one machine and Vista on another and the drivers successfully installed on both so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any help is appreciated.

At the main screen of TWRP, tap Mounts, next, make sure there is ONLY an X next to sdcard. Tap Mount. Your kindle will now appear as visible on your computer. Transfer the ROM and the correct version of gapps to the root of your internal storage. Once it is done transferring, unmount sdcard. Go back to the main screen of TWRP. Tap wipe. Do a factory reset (wipe data) and wipe dalvik cache and cache. Back at the main screen tap install, find the ROM and select it. Wait while it flashes the ROM then go back into install and flash gapps.
Wipe dalvik again and then reboot. You should be all set with a nice working kindle

[Q] KF issues and what I have tried so far...

Hello.
I have a KF 1st generation. I had rooted it some time back and then un-rooted it (thought I did?) and haven't had an issue. This week it started loading up and freezing on the Kindle Fire orange and white logo. I am able to boot it to Recovery which gives me Cannibal Open Touch screen and options. I did try a few of the options but still the same end result. After coming here and reading around I found a thread and I followed the directions since the original poster and I seemed to have the same issue. There are the steps I followed:
Step 1) Download MoDaCo Rom/Any other ROM BUT NOT ANY KITKAT ROM(COTR can NOT flash KitKat)
Step 2) Transfer your ROM while in recovery
Step 3) Do a preflash wipe
Step 4) Do a factory reset
Step 5) Go to 'Install -> Install from SD Card -> Folder where you put your ROM
Step 6) Click Install without Backup
Step 7) Boot Android
I downloaded [ROM] 14 Jun Gr9 (6.3.1) - MoDaCo Custom ROM for the Kindle Fire and made it to Step 5 using the 'Zip Flashing' option but I can't seem to flash or sideload or any of those options. While the Kindle is plugged into the computer I hear the noise and when I find my Kindle it has a Yellow Triangle with a !. I looked at the Kindle and it tells me I have no drivers and I am not able to drag and drop any files. Also, not sure if it matters but I am no longer using the computer used to root the Kindle.
the rebooting is the new 6.3.3 update trying to install, but because you have custom bootloader/recovery install fails.
may need to install twrp recovery. but my prerooted 6.3.3 zip sbould install fine.

I have been trying to figure this out and searching but I can't seem to figure this out. I am uploading the screen I have on my KF and I don't know how to mount the file. I can't find a thread that will kind of walk me though it so if you know where I should go that would be great. I am uselessly pretty good with figuring things out so maybe I'm making this harder than it looks?

When you see Press Power for Boot Options select recovery
In TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) select Mount check sd card and tap mount USB Storage
On Pc open sd card folder and copy update-kindle-prerooted.6.3.3.v1.zip downloaded from post 1
once copy is complete, close folder, unmount sd card
in TWRP select Install select update-kindle-prerooted.6.3.3.v1.zip
Swipe to Confirm Flash
after flash is complete, wipe cache, select Back, select Reboot
May take a few minutes to boot first time
Victory!
First off TY for the time you took to get me to the finish line. :victory:
I will admit trying to mount was a nightmare. I couldn't figure out how to do it so after hours of playing around and trying to find anything to try I finally succeed by installing the Kindle Fire Unbrick Utility (again) and running KindleUnbrick.bat file and installing the TWRP that way. Once that worked (and believe me I didn't think it would work since I tried this a few times) and I yelled WOOT, I followed the rest of your directions from "In TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) select Mount check sd card and tap mount USB Storage" and installed your prerooted 6.3.3 zip and finished off your directions and have myself my dear reading buddy back. I APPRECIATE deeply the time you took to get me back. :highfive:
I want to add for anyone who is looking though threads looking for help with the same issue. If you are trying to get the TWRP file on your Kindle download the Kindle Fire Unbrick Utility and then running the RUN file and follow the directions.
great, Glad I could help.
I have tried to use the Kindle Fire Unbrick Utility a few times, with little success.
I would only suggest it, if nothing else is working, but does work in some situations.
