[Q] GS2 phone blocked by T-Mo, can I root to unblock?

long story short, I bought the phone off of craigslist and the guy who I bought it from defaulted on his payments. Thus, T-Mo blocked the phone and now I can't use it. I did not know this could happen, otherwise, I'd never buy a phone from a random person. What are my options, root it?

rooting wouldn't fix it?

Unlock BULL**** from t-mobile

So I have my GS3 from T-mo on a business plan. And I am briefly traveling overseas and picked up a local sim card here in Austria.
I call t-mo to get my unlock code, and they tell me it will take FOURTEEN DAY to give me the unlock code. The rep also says I can call Samsung to get the code faster. What Bull****.
My IMEI is 353022057717016 / 07. Any idea how to get this done faster?

Wow. So you're complaining about getting it for free. You can buy one but itll cost you and you may still have to wait. All you shouldn't post your imei on a public forum.. ..... they say up to 14 days . When I requested one I got it within 48 hours. Its not Tmobile its pretty much the same on all carriers.

Holy hell that worked.
I searched these forums before asking the question and had no luck finding that post.

There required to tell you it could take up to 14 days incase there's an issue. I had tmo for years and always heard the 14 days thing. Usually get a code in 24 hours. Never once has taken more then 2 days.

Let me report his phone as stolen and tmo blacklist it it will be a lesson after everyone says to remove it.

I'm on the installment plan but after i unlocked it from tmobile they stopped d charging me the extra twenty bucks month anybody else have this Christmas present

been using it for ~2-3 months and everything is good

i even asked a technician from my carrier to register my imei too but so far not working..
imei is still intact btw.
mm6 = phone is reported as lost or stolen

currently using an extra S3 i have ;p

Take proof of purchase to your carrier store and get it taken off stolen phones list.

If he got it in any store, even his credit card statement should suffice.

Wrong imei

I have a generic imei and i dont know how to put the original one.. The imei number is “004999010640000" dont know how got changed. If you have info about how to put back my old imei i would appreciate it.

I got the same problem, its due to the DoCoMo unlock.
I actually deleted my .efs folder so I know I can't recover mine, but if you haven't then yours may be saved.
Unless the phone was shipped from DoCoMo

i dont know which carpet is EFS, the carpet with the imei is named "factory" i guess, what can i do??? btw the im not a root user.

I did the ota update and my imei dissapeared, as i heard thats a common problem in the gnexus and i rooted my cellphone last week, now, would you be kind enough to help me?

Sorry I would love to help you but I haven't found a proper fix for it, here's a picture I just took of mine. I've been using it like this for 3 years now no problem.

Hey guys sorry for little off topic but I have an xperia zl with bell I'd like to sim unlock and never had to do so before online..
Any good fast cheap and reliable sites to do so?? Im looking to unlock my device by tomorrow if possible thanks.

Check the last few pages of the unlock thread in general section. Couple of people mentioned a cheap place that unlocked their T999L.

Thanks alot saw an ebay link and it was only for Samsung but now I know such services exist through ebay ill probably go that route

Good luck with it. Alternatively, if you're taking a trip out of the country, T-Mobile may give you the unlock code. They're not always quick about it though.

The op is trying to unlock a different device. And I have to be honest, the free unlock we have is much easier to do. Plus its free!
This could help those with the T999L/T999N, but you left out very important information. Such as the website you have to go to, how much does it cost, who does it?

I get what your saying but I was trying to help as best as I could. I just went to google and used the I am feeling lucky button and that is what popped up.
I don't even know how to unlock phone's myself.

Yeah my s3 was unlocked using that method but the xperia zl is a pain in the @$$ but thanks again guys

Just a quick piece of advice....when doing anything to these type devices, never use that feeling lucky junk from Google. If you're really lucky you won't add yourself to long list of bricks that were caused by doing this.
