Yea, the title almost says it all;
After I changed the screen on my GN the volume down button is not functioning (1 of the 3 solderings is loose).
That was not much of a problem since I could just turn the volume down with the slider that appears, when pressing the volume up button.
BUT
I was too excited to try out the Optimus 4X lockscreen, so I flashed it and ended in a bootloop.
And since my volume down button is broken, I ask:
How do I get into recovery to perform a restore?
...srsly?
recovery is vol up+power, not vol down+power.

Afaik, without volume down button working you cannot enter bootloader OR download (Odin) mode. So basically, all you can do is try to fix the soldering.

Are you sure? Vol up + power button doesn't boot recovery for me.
If u are not in bootloop mode u can just using adb command to reboot into recovery. But if u are having bootloop then u have to enter download mode and flash with odin. I forgot what button is power+volume up, but any mode whether it's download mode or recovery mode are not a problem in android world

Yea, that is what I'm afraid of because I don't have any soldering equipment..
You can plug in and see if she's getting far enough in for an "adb reboot bootloader" but I'm not sure if that'll work.
Worth a shot!
Recovery is volume up + down + power. Volume up + power is Odin.

Can't you Odin push a ROM to the phone? And when you get in download ROM manager and recover your backup.

Sorry for the misspeak. Volume down +power is Odin and volume up + down + power is fastboot, which will get you to recovery.

No, because he cannot get into the bootloader, download mode OR recovery because of a faulty volume down key.

For adb to work, he must either boot into android or a custom recovery. He cannot do either.

My bad, I forgot his phone is in bootloop. So this means no hope? It's so horrible because my galaxy gio have a not working volume up and down, this means I can't make it bootloop or I'll end up dead like him

are you doing all of this?
hold the 'Volume Up' and 'Volume Down' buttons and press the 'Power' button to boot the phone into FastBoot Mode, then select 'Recovery mode' by pressing the 'Volume Down' button and then press the 'Power' button to enter CMW Recovery.

I select recovery mode. But when it boots it stays stuck at the google logo. Been like that like 10 or more minutes.
Oh, yeah. I believe the phone's not rooted.
unlock bootloader, it will wipe the device.

I have the same problem. I get stuck on that icon and pressing volume up or down, doesn't bring the recovery menu. I'm on stock 4.1.2 rooted with unlocked bootloader. How do I get the stock recovery to work?

press both up and down buttons together.. i cant remember the exact combo but i think thats it, i had this problem when i first got my gnex couldnt boot into stock recovery..
I had the exact same problem, it has to do with damaged partitioning, which is why re-flashing recovery will not work. For some users this helps, but in my case it did not help. Had to send the phone back to the distributor after only 8 hours of using my brand new phone.

Brand new Note 2 tonight, I just rooted it. But silly me, how the heck do I get into recovery the first time ? Normally I'd have the power menu option, but not yet. I am confused how to restart into recovery.
I tried hold the power button + vol down key, nothing
Power + Volume Up + Home after the phone completely shut down.
Since you're rooted download Quick Boot from PlayStore... there's an option to reboot into Recovery partition without the 3-button process.

If your only rooted you still need to install a recovery that's not stock. Either CWM or twrp of your planning on doing any flashing of roms.

Just get rom manager? If you don't want an app that does it for you, power off the phone then hold power+volume up+home

Hold Volume up&home +power until the phone vibrates, then let go of just the power button (continue holding vol up&home).
Once you're in recovery you can flash a different rom, restore a backup, etc.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Make sure your battery is charged to at least 70%. Once done try entering recovery again by holding down vol up + power + home key at the same time until you see the blue text on the upper left hand corner and then let go. If this doesn't work you should be able to enter download mode with vol down + power + home key. If so I'd recommend flashing back to complete stock using ODIN on your pc and start from scratch.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I think people make it more complicated than it needs to be. Press the power button. When the phone vibrates, release it. Hold home+vol up until you see the recovery booting blue text, then release those.
Holding the power button puts the phone in a boot loop. Something I used to do on occasion until I learned it in fact didn't need to be held at all.
you can do this too...wipe data and factory...sometimes happening when i flasshing via odin

Gapps grab what pertain to the rom you are trying (4.2.2 rom --> 4.2.2 gapps)

you must install rom and gapps for your android version without reboots.
After I select recovery from the bootloader menu I get the android with the red exclamation mark. What do I press to enter recovery from there?
Hmmm... I know it is POWER+VOL DOWN to get to bootloader. Then I use volume keys to get to recovery and then I am at TWRP. What are you trying to do with the stock recovery?

You need to put TWRP on your Nexus 7.

I believe you push vol + & vol - at the same time. It should get you in then. As others have said, you are better off using TWRP though.

From there, you need to hold power and tap volume up one time it'll boot the stock recovery!

Thanks everyone. Holding power and one press of the volume up button is the secret to getting into stock recovery. Anyways, moving on. Time to mess with this svelte 32gb awesomeness!
I was wondering the same thing. I remember on my Nexus S if I went into recovery it went into recovery. I never recalled seeing the Android with the red exclamation.

You can just push volume up (no need for power) to get the recovery menu from the fallen android overlay.

The fallen android IS recovery. It just isn't showing you the menu until you push volume up.
Hello, so basically I flashed something and its freezing on the google logo. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal. I'd just boot into recovery and restore a backup. The problem is that my volume up button is broken. So I have no idea how I can get into recovery mode from here. Does anyone know of a way?
Thank you.
adb reboot recovery.

I don't have adb set up, but if I can set it up after my phone is screwed up then I might try that. Vol down + power makes my phone go into odin mode which doesn't help. You have to hold vol up + vol down + power for recovery.
