Sprint 4.1.1 info? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've been looking for info about Sprints latest stock ROM but according to most of the info I've found I should still be on JRN84D but I'm on JRO03U. Since the update I lost my root but the boot loader is still unlocked. I've also lost Touchwiz but sounds like I need to go the CWM route anyhow.
Most of the stuff I find on here seems to be referencing Toroplus so I don't want to start adding a recovery that is incompatable or bricking it trying to root with the wrong files. I've also read many times that using the VZW files is a big no no but they are the only ones supporting my build. So any links or info where I can find the info I need would be greatly appreciated. Whats a boy to do?

This is the info you should have with latest rom

You lost touchwiz? This isn't a mainstream galaxy phone....
Sent From My Toro+ via White Tapatalk

^^ Yea no Galaxy Nexus variants come with Touchwiz at all. I vaguely remember reading about an effort to bring it over but if I remember correctly it was pretty buggy. So unless you're running that specific custom ROM (and you would definitely know if you were), you never had Touchwiz on this phone.
Definitely don't download any Verizon ROMs or radios. That could brick you. You want "toroplus" builds. That's the sprint variant.

Maybe it wasn't touchwiz. Trying to remember but it was an alternate recovery to CWM that utilized the touchscreen. At any rate I'm back to the stock recovery that is completely useless giving me a droid with a red danger triangle above it.
gagb1967, that is exactly what my build version is. Thats why I'm hesitant to use any of the toroplus files because I know its a mysid build. I've been spending way too much time with my desktop and overclocking because I've forgotten most things about how to mess with my phone. Then again this GNex really doesn't need NEARLY as much alterations as the old Charge and Touch Pro 2 did LOL.

That's the stock recovery. It's not meant to offer you the same functionality as a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM.

You have a Sprint model, you can only use Toroplus files.

Thanks all. Back to my good ole rooted stock phone. I can understand using ROM's on other phones because stock interfaces are usually so atrocious but I have yet to find anything wrong with Jelly bean that can't be fixed with an app. Yeah I'm strange LOL. Anyhow thanks again.

cyanogenmod version

So I grabbed the v7 CM for "Galaxy S II" and tried to install. I get an assert update error status 7. Googling around it appears this error is associated with a device mismatch. Has anyone else installed v7 of CM successfully? looking at their site again it looks like the 989D isn't officially supported:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II:_FAQ
I was using this version:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/samsung-galaxy-s2
I don't have a hugely compelling reason to switch to CM. I'm rooted and quite like the stock OS. Anyone who has installed prefer it to the stock?
Thanks,
That's for the international version of the SGS2. The T989 is completely different so it will not work and can even brick your device. You can find CM7 for our phone in the Android Development section.
I hope that error stopped the install before you hard bricked your phone...it sounds like you may have tried to install the i9100 ROM which is definitely not compatible with your i989...

No I'm all good. After the error I was kicked back to the CWM menu so before rebooting I restored.
Mine's a Telus phone but still a 989D. Is it the Android Dev section of CM's site or somewhere on XDA? I may just wait for the official ICS coming soon via Telus.s
Thanks for the info.

It sounds like you are on the brink of bricking your phone. You should stay on stock or do some more reading from the FAQ and once you are absolutely sure you know what youre doing try flashing a new ROM.

I 100% agree. I've survived my initial mucking around so I'm gonna stay stock. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Thanks.

Ordered a gsm nexus and have a bit of questions

I couldn't help it I needed to try stock android which I never tried. I have a few questions though I want to buy the Samsung extended battery is there a gsm battery or would the Verizon battery do? If I put a rom and kernel on the phone do I still get the latest updates from google? (new to this so don't laugh)
If the phone comes with yakju should I flash it again or leave it?
I've flashed phones before but don't know if it's different with a google phone.
I can't wait for this phone!!

1) are you using the GSM version? if yes then you have to get the GSM extended batteries; theres a thread all about it in accessories
2) not sure as I just rooted my Nexus and flash AOKP on immediately
2) Nexus phones receive latest updates direct from Google; but for me I don't like stock
I have to flash a custom ROM since its addicting

1. Yes I got the gsm version and I noticed two different kinds on amazon. Ill look for the thread.
2. I heard of that, is it that good? I will have to check that out.
3. I assume the devs just update their roms when google updates? I still want the updates but I want to flash as well. I want the whole cake yes lol.

The GSM batteries are... a little longer. If it comes with yakju why flash it again, unless it won't update to 4.0.4.
MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE!!!
It's like flashing from any other devices from my experience.
Unlock bootloader, root, install clockwork then you can flash roms from there etc...
Easiest way to do it is the one click, but if you know how to adb why not do that.
It's pretty simple. I went from a T989, to GSM Nexus, LOVE IT!

GSM Google Nexus coming tomorrow, what should I do immediately?

Hey everyone,
Im relatively confused about this phone since there are so many threads that are for the other versions(VZW/Sprint/Intnl).
What Im looking for is any help(direction?) as to what I should do first on my Nexus that I ordered from Google Play.
What is the first thing I should do(root or unlock bootloader?) and what should I download(Roms or kernals?). Any links to said advice would be much appreciated also.
Many thanks in advance.
Put sim in . Then battery then back cover . Then best of all turn it on

Thank you for the obvious and the laugh. However, I really am looking to get past the two weeks of thread reading, and get guidance from those who have this Google Play version with working roms and stuff.
unlock the bootloader, you can decide to root or flash whatever later. unlocking the bootloader does a factory reset which is why you want to do it before you do any setup or add anything to the phone

Ok, now I saw this, and I might sound newbish here, but the title of that thread is for the VZA/Sprint/GSM versions of the phone. To my understanding, even the unlocked GSM version originally sold is not the same as the current one in the Google Play store.
If the link above will work for all the phones including mine then that is what I was looking for.

Lucky for you even if u unlock the boot loader after u sign in and sync all ur stuff your data won't be erased... something about the Takju version that allows users to unlock boot loader without wiping any data =P

It will work. Yours is still GSM, yakju, takju, yakjuux, whatever. Its still GSM.
first thing you should is jump up and down, and pat yourself on the back for being tied to your carrier for a phone upgrade
I would unlock the bootloader before anything else...
Then if you're feeling brave (and before you start configuring the device to your liking) flash a third-party ROM based on 4.0.3/4 (The most recent ICS versions):
l'd recommended Cyanogenmod 9 nightlies if you like to be on the bleeding edge (Although you might have to get used to flashing EVERY day, which isn't so bad once you get used to it)
Or, moving to something like LiquidSmooth (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555667)
or
EaglesBlood ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1388728).
Each of which will bring different things to the table, you'll have to do your research as to which one you'd like if you go that way.
Alternatively, just stay on stock ROM and enjoy your phone the way they intended you to...
^ Thank you for that. I was actually confused as to what order Im supposed to do things(root, unlock bootloader...Rom...Kernal??)
Ive seen a lot of positive reviews for an AOKP rom and a Frances(?) Kernal. Anyone agree they make a good match?

You unlock the bootloader first because it wipes your phone, SD card as well.
Flash clockwork mod recovery.
Flash a custom rom and kernel.
Sorted.
The guide I wrote (previously linked) details how you can also back up your applications (not that you'll really have any to begin with...but if you decide to wait) without root.
Then unlock and restore...and backup again with titanium for all future restorations.

Buy a scratch & win lotto ticket. If you lose, go ahead and flash.
As of right now some simple steps would be being in the OTA update UCLG1 having a SV05 and having TWRP (team win recovery project) instead of CWM. The number of users experiencing this issue is very low. If your in the 30 day return period I advise doing some testing because its less of a hassle going to a store for an exchange instead of sending it away.

So I should use team win recovery project instead of CWR, because it would lower my chances? I don't wanna take any chances I guess i'll be stock until we find a real solution. I don't feel like bricking my $600+ device.

Its a issue affecting a small amount of people there's a very high chance that you might not get it. I was scared to but I said screw it I'm going to find out if my phone has it, if it does ill just exchange it better now than later on when my return period is up.
No one with baseband version of UCLG1 has lost it neither with TWRP and UCLG1.
If you wanna try it download the OTA from your phone(using software update on device itself). Root using no trip method and instead pushing CWM use TWRP. Flash and see what happens.

+1 Definitely the easiest way.
I was scared too man. I really was. This thing cost me an arm and a leg, its like the nicest thing I own and I never want to put it in dangers way. Plus if I had to pay out of pocket, I wouldn't be able to replace it for 2 months, and it would eat up all my pleasure money.
But you know what, I hate touchwiz. I hate the menus, I hate its goofy sounds and stuff. The stock keyboard is ridiculous. The battery life was really good though. I know I could of changed the launcher and some other stuff but I am really into running my devices lean and mean. This is just a thing, a mentality I guess.
I decided that at best I can provide some information to the community and possibly work with other people and get this figured out. Everyone being scared is going to ruin the test pool because we don't get the scope of info we need to really get analytical about it. At worst, well I have documented everything I've done so far and can reproduce any partition pre-flashing needed. If we all end up with phones with imeis missing in the first 30 days, and all take them back to att because "I don't know I just don't get 4g anymore", we can possibly force att and Samsung to look more in-depth And possibly give a fix.
If anything early is the time to flash if you are looking to get your hands dirty, and be fine with learning some things along the way. I spent a good 2 weeks just learning everything I could about the issue, my phone, just got real intimate with the thing XD. Once I felt comfortable that I have done everything in my power to prepare for the worse, I rooted with the "no trip" method and then installed busy box, and then goomanager from the play store. From there just go to options and then hit open recovery and it automatically detects your device and installs.
Just remember, this is a brand new device running brand new software. All of this is experimental and the fact any of it works, let alone as well as it does is amazing. I'm running aokp rc2 right now and its pretty impressive. There's some weird haptic bugs and I'm noticing that my signal strength is not even close to what it was stock. This is disappointing and o don't understand why this is. As far as I understand I'm still on the same modem? All I've done is flashed aokp and cm10 ROMs. I'm getting about 107db right now and it keeps switching from HSDPA to HSDPA +. So when I load a page, it will be slow till the HSDPA + kicks in, then it will go back down to HSDPA and loose signal strength, almost like it "cranks up" when data is being used? Anyways yea its fun and I totally understand why you want to, but bit expect it to be like 1000x better right now. But if you are down contribute either info, donate to devs, try things, send files/screenshots then come join the fun!

I'm holding out on AOKP until it comes out of preview builds, don't like being a guinea pig.
My experience:
Used the root without tripping flashcounter method.
Used adb to install CWM (the touch version for AT&T, not the teamepic one)
Have flashed custom ROMs, Kernels, and mods.
Absolutely no problems.
Just make sure to download the .zip files that are specific to your device, make nandroids, and have fun!

I made a topic earlier in the international thread about a hiss/static noise problem and a helper told me to flash a new rom as my current baseband is old and he had problems with this baseband/firmware.
I'm so confused, ROMS are just different type of "OS" right? I mean if I want to officially update my firmware I gotta go through the Samsung procedure? (If I update while rooted, I'll lose root right?).

Roms can update your firmware it all depends on what stock version their based on.
Most of the time you will find a root injected rom lets say its le9 with this you would just have to flash it through cwm/twrp. Instant firmware update without loosing root.
Then flash any rom based on it.
Plus theres a niffty app called OTA root keeper. Get OTA without loosing root.
Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on something.

[Q] Easy set up for Kitkat on Galaxy Nexus

So, I own a Galaxy Nexus and was dismayed to find I am unable to get Kitkat because the phone has been in production for over 18 months. Knowing I will never get Kitkat from the actual source, I thought there might be another way. I found the post with the general directions and the download for the ROM for Kitkat. Now, I've never done anything like that before, and so I don't know a lot of the terminology that goes into it. I was hoping an easier to understand set of directions could be given to those who don't have any knowledge of this type of thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty tech savvy, but I don't want to mess up my phone by assuming something. Hopefully someone will be understanding and might be able to help a girl out. Thanks!
Have you ever rooted/unlocked the device before? If you have, it's as easy as downloading the zip and corresponding GApps and flashing them in that order. I'm currently running the omniMetal build from 02/22 and it's fantastic when paired with the DirtyV 03/05 kernel.
If you haven't rooted/unlocked yet, there are great guides over in the Galaxy Nexus forums that can walk you through that process first.
Either way, KitKat makes the GNex feel like a totally new device and a pleasure to use.
Edit: Which version of the GNex do you have, Verizon, Sprint, or GSM?

My providor is Verizon. And unfortunately, no, I've never unlocked a device before. I just worry about doing something wrong and breaking my phone. I can't go back to my s1! I also don't have $800 for a new phone. If you don't mind explaining... what is a GAPP? Thanks!
Check this thread out for the rooting/unlocking process. As a word of caution, unlocking the device performs a factory reset on the phone so make sure you have a backup.

Once you've rooted and unlocked the phone, I would suggest grabbing ROM Manager and flashing the latest recovery through there. You'll need a custom recovery to flash a ROM. Then head over to the OmniMetal thread in the VZW Gnex forum and follow the instructions on the first page to get the ROM and suggested GApps.
GApps are the Google apps (I.e. Play store) that don't come preloaded with most ROMs. You'll need these to access the Market.
