Has anyone else experienced dead one x in APX Mode - HTC One X

Hi all, I've began to realise that no one can help get me out of APX mode on my one x but after reading stories about the Asus Transformer battery reset and LG optimus reboot from apx I am convinced there must be a way to get the device to reboot into bootloader or perhaps flash a boot.img to reboot the phone.
I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced apx and what they did about it......?
And if anyone can explain what may have happened to cause the phone to simply go dead and stay stuck in APX mode. A bad boot.img, overheating(although it didn't seem to be hot)ect....?
If I was to have the phone repaired where would I be able to do that in the uk apart from the network and HTC?
Does anyone think that removing and replacing the battery will allow the phone to boot normally?

My phone is also in APX mode after a strange crash during flashing a ROM and a strange kernel flash...

what is apx mod?

Dam how many people are in apx does it still boot into apx if you hold the power and volume down without letting go until bootloader

Muy phone does not boot at all, when I plug into the pc it says apx in device manager, what ever I try it will not boot

a friend of mine had the same after playing for an hour or so.
The Device won't boot up at all and only showed apx in device manager.
Send it to htc or wait till there's a solution for that.

APX mode == NVFlash recovery mode. A low-level recovery mode that allows you to flash the whole device. There's no known way of getting to this mode, but several people are reporting it and suggesting a faulty device is to blame.
You can try using NVFlash utility for Tegra 3 to find out more. Fetch partition table, download partition data, flash new data etc. Search forums for more info on nvflash.
But, chances are that your phone is just busted.

HOX in APX mode
I have HOX indicating APX in device manager. Just tu add one more sad story with short description of attempts to solve it.
I have two HOX one is ok. Both handesets diassembled fixed WIFI issue changed battery from good one to bad with no results, when replaced motherboard everything works well but that is half of the phone. APX is still appearing in device manager when only motherboard connected.
Tried all other methods nvflash, drivers etc as others with no results. Hope something will leak soon.

I also bought two, one for my son. His has the same problem. It won't boot but shows in devices as apx device on the pc.
Took it to my supplier four weeks ago and after many emails they tell me it is fixed but they wont send it for another week.
It took ages to get it delivered the first time. Last time I buy gadgets online. Any other Aussies get one from Topbuy or Kogan and had trouble with warranty?

Sadly mine got stuck in apx mode and I returned it to my carrier 3UK. They said it was due to me loading illegal software on it and demanded I pay them £76 to repair it. So I want my phone back now and agreed to pay it on my next bill, I will dispute it when I get it back. Looks more and more like hardware to me.

APX Mode is supposed to allow access to an nVidia based device if it is soft-bricked, but unlike other nVidia based devices such as the ASUS Transformer TF 101/201 or LG Optimus 2X, it is impossible to revive an HTC One X that is stuck in APX Mode. No-one has a guaranteed way of getting into APX mode, let alone getting out of it. As you may or may not know, the One X is very locked down and restricted. The bootloader is locked, and it's very hard to get updated stock ROMs as RUUs. Surprisingly, it is easier to get a custom ROM working through fastboot/recovery than it is to get a stock ROM working due to all the restrictions.
In fact, the One X is so locked down that even NVFlash cannot access it in APX Mode.
For example, if you try to send any commands to a One X using NVFlash, all you'll get in return is this error due to its heavy restriction:
Code:
Command send failed (usb write failed)
I have wasted 5 hours trying to revive a One X stuck in APX Mode, only to discover that it is impossible. Even HTC themselves can't fix a One X stuck in APX Mode - that is why they accuse you of installing illegal software, but in truth they have to replace the motherboard because they locked themselves out of their own hardware. This is a result of flawed internal hardware design.
So in short, don't think just because a computer can dectect the One X means that you can still save it. There is a barrier in the device itself that is above software-level.

Ah yes, this "news" is not new ...... its a known problem for several months already.
But thank you for sharing
A search would have come up with several threads, this is one of them

i am trying to fix a one x stucked at apx mode :/...are there any news about this issue?? probably a fix?

boot loop - probably bricked

Hello,
I wanted to debrand my htc wildfire s, and after many unsuccessful attempts (main version older) following other tutorials on the forums, I finally went to this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162971
Followed it step by step, everything was as expected until the flash in the end finished and the phone, instead of booting, entered boot loop.
Now when I try to boot it or to enter bootloader, the backlight turns on for a second, turns off after that, then again turns on for a second, off... and etc. It doesn't even show the HTC screen. When I turn it off and connect it to usb - it charges.
I am already assuming the worse, but if anyone has any ideas, it will be great, as this is my girlfriend's phone and I can already see the tears in her eyes when she understands the phone is dead... :'(
Can you get the phone into hboot?
Pull battery,
then put it back in,
then hold volume down and press power while still holding volume down
If luck is on your side you should be in hboot
Unfortunately I have tried that already - still the same backlight on / off / on ... loop. :-/
Try battery out, back in, connect USB, then try to boot into bootloader. See if your PC picks it up. If it does try to issue the fastboot command "fastboot reboot recovery" and see if it goes.
Also does it vibrate when its having its flashy seziure?
sent from my android powered beast!
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. Tried that also - unfortunately - no vibration (qualcom diagnostics seems to not be the case - unfortunately).
Connecting it to usb brings the orange "charging" light for a 5-10 secs, after that the phone tries to boot and enters the bootloop again.
I think after 5 HTC phones, I will finally have one matching my avatar... :'-(
Hmm. Does the PC pick it up at all?

No, it doesn't

Whoa, I wouldn't be so hasty. Try taking your old one to a service first, it'll cost you a lot less
@johnnyspritz
I am thinking about sending it back to repair, the phone is still under the 2 years warranty. However if they find a way to read the contents of the boot or system partition (JTAG?), they might have some arguments against applying the warranty :-D
Hi Simaka,
Like you my phone is in the same boot loop....
Can't access to Bootloader, no HTC Logo.
I have try to contact HTC, but the mail they send me was out of context ....
If you find any solution, please share it ;-)
Hi, for sure I will. For now I will try to return it in the shop where I bought it as it is still s-on and locked bootloader, so they might agree to take it back. I checked the possibility to buy JTAG connection equipment, but it amoints to 150€ with shipping, plus probably a month or 2 of troubleshooting...
One interestimg thing to note is that during the procedure described on the link above the current rom version in misc.img before editing it was 9.9.9.9
I believe this was a way of artificially imposed restriction so any attempt to update would fail...

[Tool]Team Unlimited - Limited QHSUSB_DLOAD fix for One V

We have been informed by a couple of people that people on the HTC One V have been getting stuck in QHSUSB_DLOAD as a result of pressing volume up and power, as well as some people ending up in this state spontaneously.
Please not this is not fix for devices that have ended up in this state as a result of damage to a crtitical partition or component caused by inappropriate flashing, experimentation or device defect. That said, there is no risk in attempting the process on such a device, if there is such an issue it will fail to resurect the device.
This is not an unbricker, just a utility to exit from download mode if there are no real issues with the device.

FAQ
Q: Will there be a windows version?
A: No
Q: Will there be a mac version?
A: No
Q: Why do you use IRC for support instead of the forums?
A1: We have hundereds of users of our tools daily, it would be impossible for us to monitor all the related threads for support requests.
A2: IRC is more interactive, what could take hours to resolve in forum posts can be dealt with in minutes on IRC.

Well someone would have to brick it to try it...

I have a brick and I tried by seeking help on IRC. I does not work. I am not a n00b and I understand that this takes more iterations. I did something more by looking into source code in gobi loader. Our device shows up as Gobi modem (qualcomm). The tool in this thread sends a byte sequence to request QDL reset and I wanted to know other byte sequences. The gobi loader source code is open and one can find a few other sequences. I modified the gobi-loader to skip the loading part and just send the end of download/finish sequence. Even that did not work. I am taking it to HTC service and see if they can fix it.
I had updated to 2.0.9 and the hboot was updated from 15 to 18 as part of official update. The phone suffered reboots during calls and I restored my CWM backup of modaco Ir2.1 with my kernel.
*The phone that was working fine (with modaco Ir2.1 vanilla and my own kernel built by merging upto v3.0.38) got into the brick state when I did a reboot to clean up RAM.
Overall, I am quite tired of having a truly fragile phone.
tried, failed,i got“ QDL reset” but my phone didnt do anything

It does in fact work perfectly for what it is intended to do. As the OP says, this is not an unbricker. It is designed only to help where a phone is stuck in QDL mode with no other underlying problems.
guys guys this is NOT 100% QHSUSB_DLOAD can happen when some of the blocks have become corrupt on your device...which IS NOT save-able...so if this DOES NOT work it's likely you have corrupt blocks and NEEDS htc to repair for you
My girlfriends One V just went into this mode qhsusb_dload and i pressed both volume buttons and power to reboot same as i do on my sensation somtimes and it wouldnt come back on so i tryed this but it did not work. the phones perfectly working before i pressed power button and volume buttons this is stock device not bootloader unlocked not rooted nothing just plain stock any1 help us ?? Probably, spontaneous entry into download mode is almost always caused by a scenario such as that Lloir outlined, or a hardware fault. This is currently not recoverable without sending to device to HTC for repair.
Guys an entry into download mode that is not sporadic is all that you can recover. I know for a fact holding up key and power corrupts a few partitions on primou. Appears to be firmware of the device to me as the vm one I have did the same thing on power up with up key. I had to get HTC to repair that. But bricking something like hboot then recovering also sticks you in this mode sometimes. That's the case I tested in and it worked great

so if i use this unbricker, then my issue will be solved? ( pressing volume up + power botton ) wont brick my device anymore? currently my phone is working already; i havnt tested that yet ( i just hold power + volume up for a short time )
They finally did a radio update. This no longer creates a situation where PBL needs the reset command sent. I've gathered that from how emmc recovery sends a reset command. Of which its source is on github

One X dead APX in device manager

I was just browsing my phone when something came up on the phone about an update, it wasn't the rom or htc update, then as I thought about what to do the screen went blank back light still on, I let it for a minute or so in the hope it would resolve itself but nothing, so I held the power button to reset the phone turned off and since then I have been unable to turn it on again, in the device manager when I connect the phone it says APX some times dropbox will show and ask if I want to scan for photo's
Help the phone is rooted and I'm worried about the warranty!!!
Thanks In advance

Stop worrying about the warranty. As far as a problem like this goes, you don't have one.
You say you held down power to reboot and now you can't turn on but you go on to say drop box sometimes works? Can you elaborate?

Could you explain to everybody here what you did exactly ? Might be interesting for a few people here !
1 : Did it happen just by waiting for some time ?
2 : Did it happen by rebooting the phone ?
3 : It went into recovery when i .......
through APX mode we can flash bootloader i think, so if we'll know how to use it properly (how to enter in it, work with it, and exit from it), we won't need s-off!
so if somebody came out from apx, it's a good starting

By rest do you mean with it charging or not? As I am now having this problem and need a way out!
I think its very difficult to flash stuff with nvflash on a protected apx mode.
I got out of this for leaving the phone on charge for a short while, then whilst still on charge powering on and it came back to life!

Stock HOX - now in APX mode - help

Hi guys,
Some time ago, my HOX (everything stock) decided to loop boot and entering by itself in the bootloader menu. I tried to fiddle around with the options but the phone kept loop booting/[email protected]/enter bootloader. I left it discharge for some time (about 2 months I think). Now it won't power on (no LED, black screen). Connected to the PC, it shows up as 'APX' in device manager.
What are the steps to getting it working again?
Thanks in advance.

Take a couple of deep breaths and follow the RUU-instructions you can find in several topics here. The empty battery shouldn't be a problem. After one of my misflashes (yep, test some and screw it up sometimes ) i leave my phone bootlooping when charging. Leave it so for a night and de the battery will be charged enough to pull you trough the RUU-process.

Probably you will wait until somebody find or some info leak about Tegra3 NVFLASH for HTC ONE X. I have two HTC ONE X one is in APX mode
i replaced motherboard from this good one to bad and it was working, but that is expensive solution.
Up to now it is not possible to NVFLASH new bootloader (hboot) without HTC service. Hope something will apear soon.
Anyway i suspect that due to overheating there is some hardware fault, mine unit was in the car during somertime and i noticed to late
that position is not good. And as other people reported several force close, and going to boot loader itself then all stops just APX appeared
in device manager, also when you take off motherboard and connnect it to computer (only motherboard it also indicate APX after some minutes.
Until good news . bye!

If you phone boots into APX mode its because of a hardware failure that causes the firm/software to crash.
Theres no way to fix it yourself without replacing hardware stuff. Your Hoxis still under full warranty, send it for repair.
maybe this one will help you .. i manage to get out in apx mode by holding volume + button then plug charger .. ) then red light comes out .. leave for a full night .. then fry to open it . it will bootloop because you are in a bootloop state then try to access fastboot .. ) hit thanks if i helped you ...

I tried vol+ and power connect as suggested but no any indication, except APX disappear and unknown device appear, then on power on APX appear again. But tks anyway .
Htc locked apx mode, hence if you can access it either your board is fully discharged(rare cases) or something is burnt and it cannot be fixed without hardware replacement.

No its not.
APX mode is the first mode the device will ever see, it is the first part of its life and the APX mode is used to flash software onto it. Its like flashing the boot.img etc but at the very start of the devices life. Hense why it can be flashed without an unlocked bootloader or rooted etc.
APX mode isnt well known with the HOX however, and HTC will not help at all, as they know this is a work around from unlocking the phone to flash, which voids their warranty.
If your in APX mode, I would try and get the RUU for your device and run that.

I know that the APX Mode is the lowest software level of our devices, its more or less the BIOS of Android/Linux...
But do you know why NO one managed to boot into APX Mode on the HOX so far...WITHOUT a broken device? (-:
If you're following the Hox forums you will notice that there are sevearl threads about hox that are stucking in apx mode and once you are in apx mode their isnt a way yet to bring it back to life again. Often you will read as well, that the Hox behaved werid before, it was dropped, battery complety drained, or whatever...so i'm 99% sure that the reason that the Hox booted into APX Mode is a hardware defect/bug that leads the firmware to crash and boots the device into APX Mode.
..and no just running a RUU wont work. Also installing the correct nvflash drivers for you desktop OS wont help.
Your Desktop PC wont recognize your Device anymore...at least not in the state that is required to falsh it. It will show that your device is in APX mode..and here you are definatly not able to run a RUU.

yeah, pretty tricky too
Yes installing apx drivers doesn't fix anything by itself. It gives you the ability to communicate with the device in this mode.
But there is no discovered user way of entering this mode at present.
The only way that is known is an error before it gets to the bootloader. As the bootloader is the first thing to load software wise on the device during power on. The failure is happening before that which usually indicates that there is faulty hardware surfacing
