[Q] Wifi Band Selection on OTA I747UCLH9 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

For those that updated to the new OTA (I747UCLH9) can I ask someone to go into wifi settings and see if the option to select 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz is still there. I just updated my phone and the option doesn't exist anymore and even better, i'm only connecting to 2.4Ghz networks. i don't even see 5Ghz. Quite frustrating. Did the option get moved to a new location?
Thanks for those that can help.

disregard. this is something that samsung is now doing. this thread provides an apk to fix it...

[Q] Unable to see SSID of my 801.11n network

Hi all
I have just received an HTC Desire HD and when I try to connect to my home wifi network (which was using 801.11n) and the SSID wasn't shown in the list of available networks. I tried adding the network manually but it then just said that the network was "out of range, remembered". After that, I changed the settings on my wireless router to 801.11g and, lo-and-behold, it appeared on the phone.
I then updated the OS to Android 2.3.3 but, when I switched the router back to 801.11n it again couldn't find the wifi network. I don't want to be stuck with 801.11g (too much interference in my block of flats) and the phone is supposed to support 801.11n. I was wondering if there were any known issues with it (unsupported channels etc). I tried searching the forums for the last 10 mins with no luck.
I'm just using the standard ROM that came with the phone (not had a chance to play yet . Software version is 2.36.405.8
Thanks in advance

Update
Ok - so googling around, I realised that I may have a bit of a fundamental misunderstanding of wifi.
On my router settings, I am given the option of choosing between 2.4GHz and 5GHz. I thought this was the difference between 801.11g and 801.11n... but apparently, 801.11n can also operate on the 2.4GHz band.
The interference I suffer from my neighbours is when I'm using the 2.4GHz band so I would prefer to use the 5GHz one. Are there any limitations on the device restricting the frequency bands it can use?
Thanks
Unfortunately, you can only use 2.4GHz N with the DHD.
Ouch
I wonder if I can cancel my contract still...
Oh well - thanks anyway.
Try to use another channel between 1-13 and stick to 2.4ghz band

[Q] Synergy & 802.11n

First off, can't say enough about how much I like Synergy. Great features, lovely aesthetics. I was instantly amnestic to my otherwise deep CM7 love after flashing.
However, I'm having trouble getting it to find my wireless n network. I see that 802.11n support was added in a kernel module that I presume is within the file presented for download. I'm running it with the stock kernel and under settings it says it supports b/g/n but only finds my g network. Am I missing something? Yes, I've reflashed, wipes, &c. Any help appreciated.
Is the network broadcasting the router info? If not I have found that we still can not see hidden networks.
Yep, network info/SSID broadcast. My iPad connects to the n network just fine.
bump
Any thoughts/ideas? I just want to make sure I'm getting the most out of this great ROM!

[Q] Strange WiFi connection issue

This is a strange issue that I have not seen before. I was starting to have issues with my phone connecting to the wifi at the house. I decided to flash a clean rom today and hopefully that would fix the issue. I did a clean install and now my phone will only connect to the 5G band and not the 2.4GHz wifi band. I would like to connect to the 2.4ghz band but I get a message saying authentication error. I removed the connection and connected using the wps push button but when i do this it only sees the 5G. Any ideas what is going on and how I can correct it?
Do you see the same issue on the stock build ??
You are running what rom ??
Try the rooted stock build as a test. ..and if no change. ..reset the router and set up the connection on the device again. ..g
Have you tried turning off the power saver?
I suspect your router as the culprit but you can try going into the advance menu.
Hit *#0011#* hit menu then wifi menu.
I think you may even be able to choose the band? I think you can choose auto or manually pick 2.4 or 5ghz. Either way see if shutting off the power saver helps.

That is strange usally its the other way around...I have my dual band set up similar to yours..I named the 2.4 actually 2.4 and 5.0 same password..sometimes ill have to hit scan to show the 5ghz band...sounds stuiped..but make sure you click show password and make sure your entering rhe correct one..it may be so simple you may entered wrong password...or try changing the channel on the 2.4 ghz in rhe router setring to a different channel..mybe be a conflict..change it to channel 11..and reboot the router. ..
I have tried it on a stock rooted rom as well as CleanRom 3. Does the same. I have not tried a CM based rom to see if it only does it with the TW based rom's. I have checked the router and I don't see anything there that should cause the problem. I have 4 other android phones, and android tablet, and 1 iphone in the household and none of the others are having this issue. I have also noticed that it doesn't always say authentication error. Sometimes it says out of range even though I can be standing right beside the router. I am stumped.

Did you ever solve this? I'm having similar problem with my Note 2. I have a strong wifi signal incoming to the phone, but the transmission signal is very weak (verified using dd-wrt on the router and looking at client signal strength). My Note 2 has extremely poor strength.. ~10% where every other device on my network is ~50%. I've tried factory reset, turning off wifi power save mode.. not sure what else to try.
I am having a similar problem for the past couple months. My Note2 (ATT) with custom ROM won't connect to a 2.4 GHz wifi. No problem connecting to 5GHz wifi.
I saw an answer to this for a Sony Experia that the problem is with 802.11 mode and to change a file option gDotMode from 3 to either 1 or 2, but I haven't found a file with that option in it yet.
Same problem here, no 2.4 authentication unless the phone is very close to 2.4GHz AP.
Same problem here, no 2.4 authentication unless the phone is very close to 2.4GHz AP.
I have noticed that in some public networks i can connect with no trouble, (I guess now that they're 5.8GHz)
but not at home
Any solution? I am using a note 2 i317m with stock rom 4.3 from TELCEL mexico carrier

No internet access after switching between Asus RT-AC66U and data

I have no internet access on one certain wifi router (asus rt-ac66u), with my n7 lte, although I can access the internet on other routers and through the dataa connection, I can access my router management though. I did a factory reset of the router and that solved the problem temporarily but the problem came back. Just switching router/tablet on/off doesn't solve the problem
edit: well after turning on/off the n7 wifi worked but now data doesn't work when I disable wifi

If flashing the latest firmware doesn't help. You can try and change the wireless mode of your router. Log into mgmt. Navigate to your wireless settings, change "wireless mode" from "auto" to "N Only."
It's worth a try. What that will do is force N band only, whereas on auto when a g/b band connects the router switches to b/g mode, and that might mess with the Nexus. If the problem you encountered was fine with a factory reset temporarily, all it would take would be a "g or b" band device to log on to kill your n band and dumb down to g/b band.
It's not a bad idea if you don't have any b/g devices to turn off 'auto' anyways. The jury is still out on whether or not it actually benefits an all "N" environment, but it sure as hell won't be switching to G or B on you.
Those routers had issues with their early versions of firmware. They might have straightened it out by now. Upgrade it!

Try changing the WIFI channel used in your router. My nexus 10 had issues on certain channels especially on 5GHZ.
You may also have a Wifi region setting somewhere on your nexus. I remember seeing it before but can't find it right now. The region basically locks your nexus to (possibly) the wrong channels. IE. Not all euro channels work with american wifi channels

I tried different channels and connecting to 2.4 GHz only.
Help!
HELP!!
Let's divide the problem into smaller pieces - is this an N7 LTE problem or ASUS router problem?
Get another router (I use the Asus RT-N66U) and test if it works with the N7 LTE. If it does, then it's your' router.
If it does NOT work wit hth eN7 LTE, then it's your N7 LTE probably have a bad chip.
I installed the kitkat factory images and the problem still persists :crying:

[Q] Suddenly can't see my 2.4GHz wifi.

Hey all
I have a T-800 with IronRom on it. Everything was working fine for almost 2 months now. Starting yesterday, my tab is unable to find my 2.4GHz WiFi, but is still able to find/connect to my 5GHz WiFi or other 2.4GHz networks (public hotspots).
Other devices see the 2.4GHz network fine, and can connect to it. I've just rebooter the router and payed closed attention to what happened. Once the router is online, i can briefly see the 2.4GHz network, i tried to connect to it and my tablet asks for the wpa2 key. When i entered it (it's pretty long) i clicked connect, but the network was already listed "out of reach" by then.
Some more info:
I have rebooted all related devices
Tablet CAN connect to 5GHz network
Tablet CAN'T connect to 2.4GHz network (out of reach)
Other devices (laptop, phones) CAN connect to the 2.4GHz network
Tablet CAN connect to other 2.4GHz network
I have tried a Wifi Analyzer app, that also can't see the 2.4GHz network.
What could cause this or how could i diagnose/fix this issue? Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks a bunch in advance!
Perhaps some program you've installed recently has made changes to the system or settings that's prohibiting connection?
You seemed to have established there is nothing wrong with your network, and even the device can use both bands...
I would backup, reset the device and see if its still an issue.

Thanks for your reply! I have performed a reset and the problem persists. I have contacted Samsung support and they say it's a hardware issue and i should send it in.
The repairs are outsourced to Dynafix (can't post URL because I'm a new user). Any idea on how they handle rooted tablets with a custom OS? Should i tell them upfront?
You should get it as far back to stock as you can... ie - odin a stock rom.
If its indeed a hardware issue then it shouldn't matter but don't give them that reason.
I managed to fix the problem with the suggestion of a friend. My 2.4GHz connection's channel setting on the router was set to automatic. I assigned it a fixed channel and it immediately popped back into my available networks. Weird problem, but I'm glad i didn't send it in for repairs because they would've charged me for it.
Had the same problem and it was rom related. I changed the rom and coud enable auto channel again in my router...
