Great! What Android versions can be ran on this phone?
Ice Cream Sandwich - 4.0.4 based, there is a couple edited TouchWiz ROMs.
JellyBean - All are experimental but run pretty well, may be glitch at times. CM10, Leaked TouchWiz Versions and now an official one.
Click to collapse
Cool, but I'm a noob, what should I start off with?
My suggestion to you is for you to run some ICS TouchWiz ROMs to get you comfortable with the flashing, nandroiding, tweaking processes and then move on to something else. Above all read and search.
Click to collapse
Okay, I see.. but I don't quite understand what flashing, nandroiding, tweaking, etc. mean?
* - anything and everything possible. A good example would be "All my friends live at 10* Croxley Street." This is saying that they are all live at 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108 and 109.
Dev - See developer.
Developer - A man or woman who has created (developed) software.
ROM - 1. A modified version of the Android operating system operating system. 2. Read Only Memory, a place where information is stored and can not be destroyed, modified or written to.
AOSP - "Android open source project" a project by Google Inc. to give android to developers and manufactures for free (see open-source)
Open-source - (not to be confussed with free) A peice of software that is free to edit, use, distribute and share with no charge.
CM - See cyanogenmod
Cyanogenmod - A free open-source project based on the AOSP. It is a modded (see modded) version of the Android firmware
Firmware - see ROM (1)
Stock - An unchanged version of something. Example: I just flashed stock sense
OTA - "Over the air" a term used to indicate software that was sent to phones directly through the internet to their phones.
FOTA - "Firmware over the air" this normally refers to ROM's but can refer to radio firmware (see OTA)
Firmware - a piece of software to make hardware function correctly. This can refer to Radio Firmware, but is normally used as another name for ROM (1)
Radio - (not to be confused with Radio Firmware) A piece of hardware that allows communication. There are 3 main radios in your phone. Bluetooth, WiFi and GSM/CDMA.
Radio Firmware - (see firmware) a type of software that allows correct communication with the radio and the operating system. A newer firmware would normally improve battery life and call quality. The radio firmware only applies to the CDMA/GSM radio.
CDMA/GSM - A type of network communication between phones and carriers. GSM phones normally are included with SIM Cards that authorize them onto the network. CDMA have this authorization built in and do not need a sim card.
Kernel - An important part of all operating systems that handles the CPU and other vital components. A modded kernel may be used for overclocking.
Overclock - (not to be confused with underclock) to exced the default maximum CPU speed. This could make a phone more powerful but may cause damage. Although no damaged has been reported so far it could still drain battery life.
Underclock - to change your phones maximum frequency to LOWER than the default to attempt to extend the phones lifespan and battery.
Mod - A modification to a part of the phones software. It is also POSSIBLE to mod the phones hardware but is not recommended.
Modding - To perform a mod
Modded - to have included mods
Modification - see mod
Governor - a system embedded into the kernel to automatically change the current working CPU frequency depending on the workload. It would only go up to what it is overclocked (or underclocked) to, this is called the maximum frequency. It would not drop bellow the (just as eaisly configurable) minimum frequency.
Library's/Libs - a set of instructions for applications to use to function. A functioning camera lib would allow the camera to be used.
WFS - "Wildfire S" an armv6 device made by HTC in 2011.
Logcat - A logging system built into the ADB
ADB - "Android Debug Bridge" a system that can be accessed using a computer where you can manage the device from. You need the Android SDK to use it.
SDK - "Software Development Kit" a set of tools used for software development.
WIP - "Work In Progress"
JDK - "Java Development Kit" an SDK for the java platform. It is needed to run the Android SDK.
JRE - "Java Runtime Environment" a collection of binarys and files to allow java software to execute.
Execute - To "run" or "start" a binary
Binarys - (sometimes called bin's) a group of executable files.
RAM - Could be one of three meanings: 1. Memory for the CPU to process processes. 2. Random Access Memory, a place where information can be used, executed from, modified, or deleted. 3. A type of sheep.
SD - Short term for MicroSD
Marvel - A gsm version of the phone
Marvelc - The cdma version of the phone
Marvelct - A rare Easten CDMA version of the phone.
Marvel* - all versions of the HTC Wildfire S (see *)
GB - Could mean one of two things. 1. Gingerbread or 2. Great Britain
Gingerbread - Android 2.3
Froyo - Android 2.2
Honeycomb - Android 3.x. it was never released or ported to the wildfire s because it was built for tablets.
Ice cream sandwich/ICS - Android 4.0. The latest version of Android.
CM9 - Cyanogenmod 9. A modified version of ICS. (see cm)
RUU - "ROM Update Utility" An automatic installer for Radio Firmware, ROM and HBOOT
HBOOT - The bootloader for all modern HTC Android phones.
Custom recovery - A o version of the stock HTC recovery to install unoffical ROMs.
AFAIK - "As far as I know"
KANG - The process of creating a code based of someone else's code.
Zipalligned - This is something that makes a ROM faster. If you can improve this please contact me!

This was written by benjamingwynn and brought over to the Vibrant section by Woodrube, so thanks goes out to them!
Okay, I think I'm ready to begin! Where do I start?
You have a few ways to go here..
But before we continue, let me explain something to you. Our phones have this 'flash counter' built in.
There is a way to bypass the counter, and to reset it after you've triggered it, so don't be alarmed.
Flash counter? What's that?
The flash counter is a binary counter built in Samsung phones that is used by Samsung to basically help identify if you have been tampering with your firmware and flashing unofficial software.
Each time you flash unofficial firmware via Odin, your binary flash counter goes up by 1.
Click to collapse
Ah, okay.. is there anyway to bypass that?
Yes and no.
How to get root without triggering the counter:
If you want to play it safe and want to stay on Stock, but only want to root.. mrRobinson has injected root to some official Samsung ODIN files.
You can find that thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
This is the SAFEST way to achieve root without tripping the counter.

How to get root easier and faster, triggering the counter:
If you have already flashed your counter or don't care about your counter going up, mskip has developed an amazing application that will install drivers, flash a custom recovery, root your phone, etc.
Visit this thread to download and see the many features it has: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682
Big thanks goes out to him for making things so simple!
Click to collapse
NOTE: You CAN reset your flash counter to 0 using an application developed by Chainfire called Triangle Away which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
What can I do now that I have root?
You can backup your apps using Titanium Backup found in the Google Play store.
Use apps that require root.
Etc.

Click to collapse
What can I do now that I have a custom recovery?
Make a NANDROID backup of your current setup and restore that backup!
Flash ROMs, modems, kernels, themes, etc.
Wipe data, clear cache, etc.

So look around if you find this confusing!
How to ODIN back to stock after messing up trying to flash a ROM or rooting.
1. Download this: http://samsung-updates.com/get/2144/Samsung_Firmware_SGH-T999_TMB_T999UVALH2_Android_4_0_4.html
It is the FULL stock firmware. t's roughly 720MB. It will be in a compressed format.
2. Once your download (Stock Firmware) is complete, extract the .tar.md5 file from the first link I gave you. (Use WinRAR or a similar program.)
That is the file you will ODIN to your phone (Add it to the PDA part of ODIN.)
3. Put your phone into download mode. (Confirm that the count is set at 0)
4. Odin like you normally would.
When you initially add it to ODIN, it will look like it gets stuck at <OSM> Please wait..
But it's only because it's a big file, wait it out.
It should finally continue and now it should say:
<OSM> T999UVALH2_T999TMBALH2_T999UVALH2_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
And you should be ready to press Start.
5. Now boot into stock recovery, wipe data and cache, reboot!
How to get into recovery:
- Hold down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME UP' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 5 seconds while the phone is off to enter Recovery Mode.
Your phone should now be 100% stock.
Note: My phone isn't connected, but I took screenshots to help you.
You should see the yellow COM light up and whatnot when you have your phone connected.
How to ODIN back to stock, reset your flash counter and pretend like you've never flashed a ROM
1. Download this: http://samsung-updates.com/get/2144/Samsung_Firmware_SGH-T999_TMB_T999UVALH2_Android_4_0_4.html
It is the FULL stock firmware. t's roughly 720MB. It will be in a compressed format.
2. While that's downloading, you can Triangle Away your phone. (Note: Do it at your own risk.)
Download Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22463153 (Thanks to Chainfire.)
3. Run Triangle Away on your phone, it'll give you a warning message, and yadayadayada, click Reset Counter.
4. Once your download (Stock Firmware) is complete, extract the .tar.md5 file from the first link I gave you. (Use WinRAR or a similar program.)
That is the file you will ODIN to your phone (Add it to the PDA part of ODIN.)

May I request this to be stickied? People keep asking how to ODIN back to stock and what files to use, etc. They're all listed here.
Exel, you should add a small section of how to actually flash a rom while in recovery. Give the step and a quick rundown of what it does per step. Just a thought. A lot of new folks ask that a lot.

This really is a great guide! Very informative and should def get moved to stickies. Some things you could add to it are things like how to make tar files out of other rom iso files and flash via ODIN and also how to backup and restore system and EFS partitions as well as maybe recovering from a partial brick (idk if you have any experience with usb jigs but a guide like this one would really help!!) Keep up the good work and I look forward to reading your next guide!
Mods, please add to stickies!
Sory haven't had time to update this.
Will do so tonight!

I'm guessing, but considering this replaces the zImage that mimocan's fix provides anything you have on moved to ext3/ext4 will not be accessible.
To reverse reflash with the mimocan kernel.

Just tried with my 'fixed' ext4 device and it just hangs after the Galaxy S boot screen.

I can confirm that, this mod won't work if you have mimocan's kernel applied.
Does it work if you "unapply" it ? Can you get your phone back functional again ?
cos this is also a zImage (aka kernel) update..
flash back mimocan or stock to "unapply" it

Every single app. you've installed will need to be reinstalled, it's as if the device is completely cleared of any settings/config.
Basically you need to restore from backup.
If you see this screen
follow these commands while odin3 is opened.
"SIM+SD out, put the battery in. Plug in USB. Hold down both Volume keys, and then push power. Hold it. From the phone > pc screen, hold vol +/- and power, wait til it goes black then returns to that screen. When it goes black the 2nd time release power. " That should put you in download mode so you can install the recovery again.
Then flash this kernel to fix any slowness
http://android.eugenekay.com/Vibrant/LeshakKernel_9_01b9.tar
Eugenekay couldn't link because he only has 4 posts so I'm doing it for him
This might not apply to i9000 users but I posted it just encase.
Also any flashing done in odin formats everything. That is why recovery is needed in order to try and get zip updates. Zip updates wont allow a whole rom flash just modifications.
@mod, all the warnings etc about bricking your phone are misleading. If you had the mimocan fix kernel, then naturally this (as it is a different kernel) will make your phone unusable until you apply the mimocan kernel back.
In other words, this is workin, just not if you had the mimocan fix, which changes where all the data is located in the device.
so are there gonna be roms in zip ?
or this recovery is gonna handle tars as well?

Just after this was released immediately a bunch of Vibrant and Captivate guys tried it and none of them succeeded. A number of them couldn't do anything anymore, couldn't get out of some screen and couldn't connect with the PC. Koush himself was absent at the time. There was a lot of *****ing and moaning, and the people in the channel asked to put the notice up until there was more info. So, as it was about 6 AM for me I put up the warning, called it a day, and decided to figure it out tomorrow (now today).
An unneccessary warning is IMHO better than having to risk a large number of users bricking. (Tough if you prefer bricks...) I'm still not sure what happens on the unbranded SGS / I9000. At least it certainly causes issues on the Vibrant and Captivate (though I think Koush by now has mentioned in one of the threads he'll have to make a different version for each of the SGS variants)
Get me some confirmation it works as advertised on the I9000, and a step-by-step guide to get everything up and running - even if using those modified kernels - and I'll remove the warning. If not, you'll have to wait 'til Koush looks over his stuff again and modifies his post (my warning is in his post, he can simply edit it out).

Does the same thing on JG5...
When I first applied it, it rebooted itself twice in a row and booted fine. It ran for a good few hours... restored apps. from titanium backup. Did a reboot again. (just to be safe.) At that point, it kept rebooting itself... and then I pretty much gave up and flashed the stock JG5. (couldn't head to work w/o a working phone, lol) Anyone got it to work so far?
3/3/2011 - I've been away for several weeks, sorry about that. I've also moved on and will be futzing with my shiny new Xoom. I will not be working on Tab projects for the immediate future, it at all.
Been fun
There seems to be a genuine lack of activity on the Sprint version of the Tab. Hopefully this will allow folks to start making themes and ROM's for the Sprint flavor of the tablet.
This package was created via the "Rotobackup" Method pioneered by Rotohammer and maniac3389.
As far as I can tell, I'm the only one who has done this on the Sprint-flavor of the Tab, so this is all beta and VERY RISKY. I do not recommend using this unless you are VERY familiar with flashing Android devices.
NOTE: This is ALMOST STOCK. The Rotobackup process did not dump the modem.bin file properly. To address this, I used the modem from the Epic 4G (SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL). This modem effectively disables GPS. There is no known fix yet.
Updates:
12/13/2010 - Looks like the package borks GPS. You cannot acquire satellites after flashing.
12/29/2010 - GPS is still broke if you use the package containing the modem. Looks like we will need to wait until an update is released. Feel free to keep troubleshooting the issue, I'll update the OP if somebody figures it out.
12/29/2010 - Uploaded package WITHOUT the modem
12/29/2010 - Introduced Zypher, a fully deodexed updater.
WARNING!!! YOU CAN BRICK YOUR DEVICE VERY EASILY.
THESE ARE FOR SPRINT VERSIONS OF THE TAB.
Instructions:
Backup your settings with Titanium Backup
Do a factory reset: Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset
Turn on USB debugging: Settings>Applications>Development>USB debugging
Extract the RAR archive
Open "Odin3 v1.31.exe"
Reboot into Download Mode (adb reboot download)
Do not check Re-Partition option
Click PIT, select pit.pit
Click PDA, Select .tar file
Click Start
Downloads
Download 1 - Stock, no modem - Sprint Only! Use this if you want to get back to stock (rooted). ALL USERS SHOULD TRY THIS PACKAGE FIRST! If you still have problems, then you need to use the modem package which kills GPS (Download 2).
Download 2 - Stock, with modem - Sprint Only! Includes modem from Epic 4G - Only use if your Tab will not boot, this package will kill GPS
THERE IS NO WAY TO GET THE STOCK MODEM BACK AFTER YOU FLASH!!
Download Zypher v1 - Sprint Only! Deodexed\zipaligned. I recommend running a factory reset before applying the package. Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset
Zypher Details:
Based off DJ30
Deodexed and zip aligned
Removed startup/shutdown sounds
Added Busybox installer
Added Titanium Backup
Added Z4Root
Added AD-Free hosts file
To do list:
Work in the full screen fix (via Spareparts)
Replace launcher with LauncherPro
Theme everything
Nice work, not that Sprint would allow it, but did this enable dialer functions since it is using an alternate modem file?
Awesome, thanks!
Now who's got a busted Tab to try this on!
Not sure if this is any help, but here's a system dump someone posted....
http://forum.androidcentral.com/galaxy-tab/44323-us-galaxy-tab-sprint-system-dump.html
Dunno. There is no dialer installed and it gives the standard engrish statement "Cannot make or take a call using Galaxy Tab"
I did some comparisons between the sprint tab and the epic, and the modems are identical. I just flashed this and it worked flawlessly.
Thanks again man I appreciate it. You have ressurected my tab.
Wow, maybe I can finally root

Excellent, glad it worked for you.
Nevermind.
I am going to try this now... I had terminal emulator crash on me and it messed up the filesystem or something. My Sprint Galaxy Tablet just says "Samsung" and glows after the intro animation.
I did manage to get the tablet into downloading mode by:
1) turning tablet off
2) holding Volume UP key and power key at the same time until it turns on
and I get little android man with a shovel that says "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!"
wish me luck
Why dont you just wipe it and see if that works first?

how would I do that? It won't actually boot up.. Just shows the samsung into screen and says on a screen that has samsung glowing. It will blink after a while and vibrate, then go back to glowing at me.
HOLY CRAP that worked!!!!! I was just about to give up! Notice the many hours between my last post and now.. (6:50am now LOL)
I had to do some other things not outlined in this thread to get my computer to see the Galaxy Tablet in the Device Manager. Basically I tried these things, (try them all if you have trouble, I'm not sure what or which actually worked):
tried to wipe from boot up (turn off, hold volume up and power until it turns on and release buttons)
that didn't work
install Kies and Samsung(android) SDK and JDK (java developer kit)
that didn't seem to work
install Samsung PC Studio 7
ah hah! I see you there in the device manager now!
power tablet off and get to download menu (hold volume down and power until you see the android holding a shovel at the download menu)
Load up Odin, YAY It connects and detects the COM!!
Select the PIT and TAR, start, it downloads and reboots and tab loaded right up!!
Best of all I think it also got rid of the Sprint Activation nag notice screen. It hasn't popped up yet and it has been a good 10 min or so! That would be a nice bonus
You saved me so much time and $$ thanks a TON!!
((side note, Odin loads up and displays GT-1000 not my SPH-P100... I edited my odin.ini to reflect the correct model. not a big deal at all, but I was getting confused at first as to why Odin was saying wrong model, thinking it was doing a detection when it was really just blindly echoing info from the ini file))
Good stuff.
You'd think Sprint would want to leak the firmware to keep people from exchanging/RMA'ing devices. One thing is certain with Android, people will hack the hell out of it.
My bad on the label. The top title in Odin is just that, a title. It doesn't doesn't affect the reload process at all. I'd change it, but uploading another 200MB file isn't on my list of activities today

What do you mean?
THANK YOU!
Same thing happened to me this morning as ManaKill described...I had terminal emulator crash on me and it messed up the filesystem or something. My Sprint Galaxy Tablet endlessly glowed "Samsung" after the intro animation - thought I was DONE. Tried wiping but no go. I followed ZoinksS2K directions and it worked flawlessly just as infamousjax described. Thank you!!! No telling how many Tabs have been ressurected thanks to this post.
Have you guys been able to get a gps lock since doing this? I can't get one worth ****.

I present the latest stock ODIN firmware directly from Samsung. The current latest is G925TUVU1AOCG. These are for the T-Mobile Galaxy s6 Edge (SM-G925T) ONLY! DO NOT flash this on any other device.
Instructions:
1.) Make sure you have ODIN 3.10 setup (there are many tutorials on xda and youtube for this).
2.) Download the latest firmware zip from below.
3.) Extract the tar.md5 file from the zip.
4.) Add the tar.md5 file to the AP section of ODIN.
5.) Under Options make sure to ONLY select "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time". DO NOT select repartition (or really anything else)!!!
6.) Click start and let it flash.
(Again there are plenty of tutorials on how to use ODIN)
This won't wipe your data (probably). (It didn't during my test but always make backups just in case.)
Downloads:
G925TUVU1AOCG SHA256 (of zip): 70146cbcf5fe157ca1691085db15e8ffaa7cbdeaa16a6043567a1c5796a6cb93

Appreciate the first downloadable tar. Maybe a better place would be in the Android Development section. Just a thought. (Or original android development. ) Not sure which would be more appropriate but I'm sure a lot more users would see this. Just my 2c. Thanks for the post.

Unmodified stock ROMs do not belong in the android development section so general seemed like the better choice. Any mod, please correct me and move this thread if I am wrong.
Always seem to remember them being in general or Q and A.

What is the reason to install the stock firmware? I'm rooted with stock recovery flashed.
Thanks!

Lets says the rooting process borked your phone (or maybe you installed some experimental ROM/kernel, etc.). You can still get into download mode but can't get anything else to work right. Flash back to stock and start again.
See how it's useful?
Yep that helps! So, aside from that, if I am up and running - albeit very slowly and with significant battery drain - is there any reason for me to flash this firmware?

Those TWO reasons are exactly why you should try this. MANY, including myself have had the battery drain, lag, and overheating Cured by flashing the stock ROM Firmware.

@SuperSport - you said you flashed the stock ROM - @jamcar is talking about flashing the firmware. Two completely different things. Can someone clarify? FWIW, I did flash the stock ROM a few days ago, but after reinstalling everything, I'm back to being laggy and battery drain.
Thanks all!!

Yes, I said that wrong. I meant Firmware. There are many reports that the issues go away after flashing the Stock Firmware back on. I was using Smart Switch to do it, but Odin is a great alternative if Smart Switch does not work for you. I'm not sure why your issues returned, maybe the Root is bringing it back, or maybe an incompatible app. I've found a few apps that Force Close on me that never used to on my Galaxy S4 (ie: 'dji-vision' app for the Phantom Drone), so it is possible other apps are drawing too much power, etc...
Okay, that makes sense. I have been having Amazon FC's since rooting. Frustrating but not as bad as it was at its worst. Using Clean Master for the lag issues and Greenify for the battery. Not sure if they counter each other though. Anyway, I will try flashing the Firmware and report back. Thank you again for clarifying.

@SuperSport correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there two reasons for @ShermCraig issues? First would be the outdated build and second would be the recovery deep sleep issue if they're rooted.

Yes, and Yes. But I have heard some report that they Rooted after flashing the Firmware that has the OCG update included and they did not have the deep sleep issue anymore. Although, I believe they replaced the recovery with the original again. I myself have not rooted, so I'm not speaking from experience, just what I've been reading.

Does anybody know why my phone gets stuck in a boot loop when I try to root. I used the S6 version as was suggested in the root tutorial, everything goes smoothly but then it just bootloops.

This is NOT my work (Ianmacd) and guide is written by Mr Pickles all credits to him for his install method.
Also this is just a copy and paste but the guide is well written and TWRP should cause less issues.
I'm sure Gieti94 is just perhaps busy with other commitments, credit also to him for his fantastic efforts.
Just a new space for the currently working TWRP so all don't get in a pickle.

Excellent installation Guide below
Install Guide
---------------------------
- NOT A SINGLE STEP IS UNNESSECARY
- DO THEM _ALL_ EXACTLY!
- ALL YOUR DATA WILL BE GONE - BACKUP!
---------------------------------------
DO NOT INSTALL MODPACK FROM SOLDIER - IT BREAKS TWRP!
---------------------------------------
If you have any problems - contact @PiCkLeS or on Telegram by PiCkLeS or @rp4k
---------------------------------------
All development is by @ianmacd (Ian Macdonald).
---------------------------------------
0 - No matter what you have today, no root or Magisk-only solution or TWRP with Magisk-solution, do ALL the steps..
1 - Make sure you copy the "Magisk_Manager_Ian_install.apk" file and "Multidisabler-g97x_by_Ian.zip" file to your sd-card before you start!
2 - Download latest firmware via Samfirm or Frija or in any way you can, and unpack.
3 - Boot your phone to Download mode (Power+Bixby+VolDown) and remember to have the USB connected to your computer, it won't boot to DL-mode otherwise
4 - Keep autoboot etc in Odin settings, put each file in its place (AP, BL, CSC etc) and _dont_ use HOME_CSC, use CSC-only-file.
5 - After Odin is done, your phone will reboot automatically - let it! It can feel like forever, but let it do its restarts and stuff until you are in system-setup
6 - Do the setup as per usual, CONNECT TO WIFI but you can safely just say Skip on sign in and other stuff
7 - When setup says its all finished and you get to the standard launcher - go into Settings and enable Developer settings
8 - This step IS necessary.. If you don't do this step, you might get in pre-normal rrm state and you will have wait 7 days to try again: Enter Developer settings and look for the "OEM Unlock" switch - if you are rooting for the first time, Enable it. If you already have root since before or unlocked your bootloiader before, just confirm that its Enabled and graded out.
9 - If you already have an unlocked bootloader, skip to step 12. If not, continue with step 10.
10 - IF you never have unlocked your bootloader before, Power off the phone and boot into download mode again. You will see the long press volUp option for unlock bl, do that.
11 - IF you never have unlocked OEM before, boot the phone again, do the setup without signing in etc but connect to wifi, enable dev settings, go into dev settings and check that OEM now is enabled and grayed out.
12 - Reboot the phone in recovery mode (Power+Bixby+VolUp and keep holding until you are in stock recovery. Choose and do a factory reset.
13 - Reboot to bootloader with option in Recovery.
14 - Flash the tar you got (S10x-TWRP+Magisk_fixed_by_Ian.tar I Odin in the AP-slot. DISABLE auto reboot in Odin first!
15 - When the tar has flashed - Do as instructed on the phone, hold Power+VolDown for a few seconds and AS SOON AS THE SCREEN GOES BLACK -> quickly press power+bixby+volUp for a _long_ time, and I mean it can feel as if its a full minute! After a while you will see TWRP starting with its start screen, you can now let go and enter TWRP.
16 - FORMAT data, then WIPE data AND Cache. DO NOT LET IT REBOOT
17 - Flash "Multidisabler-g97x_by_Ian.zip" from SD card
18 - Go back to start screen of TWRP, Choose Reboot, Choose Recovery - YOU MUST ALWAYS CHOOSE REBOOT TO RECOVERY and _NOT_ system!
19 - Let the phone reboot into system, it will do some reboots it self, and again it will feel like it takes FOREVER - Just let it do its thing and DO NOT PRESS ANY KEYS!
20 - When your phone is finally done booting, just do the normal setup/signing for real this time.
21 - When you are done and in system/launcher, install "Magisk_Manager_Ian_install.apk" from SD card and verify that you now have Magisk Manager installed.
22 - Start Magisk Manager and say YES to what it says, it will do some stuff and then say "Rebooting in 5 seconds" - LET IT BOOT AND DO NOT TOUCH ANY KEYS this time either..
23 - Now when booted to system, start Magisk Manager and see that you have all green and its installed.
24 - Now you have root.
** Every time you reboot manually, be prepared to hold Power+Bixby+VolUP until you see the Samsung S10x-logo, then release and let it reboot, you will have root.
** Every time you power off the phone, when you power ON again, hold Power+Bixby+VolUP until you see the Samsung S10x-logo, then release and it will boot with root.
** Every time you want to enter TWRP-recovery, do as above but KEEP HOLDING THE KEYS UNTIL TWRP-start screen shows then release. Remember to choose reboot to recovery afterwards and you will boot with root.
** IF you screw up and forget or miss the key combo, just let it boot to system, immediately when system is up - reboot again and do the key combo and all is fine again.
This is me just trying to get an emergency first aid space, nothing more, I'm NOT trying to take any credits or dismiss Gieti94.
Thanks All

I understand. But that doesn't seem to be a big problem for any one else and the bigger problem is that you risk having a link that is being used by the people only see it here and don't read anywhere else, or this message, and end up with old information or even worse, outdated files.
I can help you get the files on PM but please remove these links outside of my drive, which I maintain every day and keep up to date. It's not for vanity, it's for safety.
For now please edit your text and remove the link. All must use v1.1 of the multidisabler zip by Ian.

Listen, just to be clear. I and I dont think Ian have a problem with you having this thread.
All I am worried about is the download link. Things can and are happening fast. If there are multiple sources for downloading files in this case, and today one was updated with important improvements, and there are many places to download from people can miss that and download old files that can cause big problems.
Keep the downloading to one good source and everything will be fine. The thread in it self can do much good by showing that there is an alternative, it works and right now almost 100 people in 24 hours have used it. Fantastic!
So I dont think it was a bad idea, I just dont want PM:s from people in a week or two asking why their device suddenly lost data, only to find out that they downloaded from a source that didnt have the latest files.
Thats all.

I fully appreciate and understand that, the reason I created as I have plenty of time to maintain, and will keep it up to date I have been around for quite some time, if you look at my posts (search) I have had almost every device you can think of, currently have the Vivo IQOO also, I have enough experience to understand the important and implications.
I don't want your PM's to be going crazy so I'll fully respect your decisions and will keep everything updated also. But it is better if everything is tody and not one thing here and there, OP has been updated with your direct link, is this cool?
Just thought by creating this thread that it might help, my sincere and good intentions are hopefully evident

open settings and set the date 8 days before ... then reboot
so you can enable OEM in developer settings

Before Starting This Process Get A USB2 Mini Hub You Are Most Likely Going Too Need It. Do Not Come In Here And Post This Is Not Working Until You Have Tried It With The USB2 Mini Hub!
You Must Start From Stock U Firmware. IT Seems To Be The Less Likely To Brick Your Device As Explained In The Disclaimer!Disclaimer Please Read!!
This may brick your device there is a problem especially with s8 and note 8 models where the tz partition becomes corrupted and on some occasions after flashing combination firmware your phone will become bricked and as of now there is no way to fix it. There is no way to predict if it will happen. It doesn’t seem too happen very often on s8+ but it does occasionally happen on the other 2 models so do this at your own risk. I would say it probably happens 10 percent of the time on s8 and note 8 especially when on bit 6 or higher firmwares. S8+ it rarely happens too but it still may. If you take the risk and it happens do not pm me asking how to fix it as of time I posted this there is no way to fix it
Please Read Notes
OEM Toggle Does Nothing On US Model Phones
You will most likely need a USB 2 mini hub for Odin to work if using windows 8 or higher. I would temporarily disable windows defender or antivirus software while performing the procedure with your computer.
You cannot have root on any rom except a nougat rom also flashing custom boot images cannot be done or using systemless magisk. Hiding root or running modules cannot be done. There is no oem unlock and even if there is you cannot unlock your bootloaders or run any aosp based roms.
You can be on any firmware to achieve safestrap but to run a rooted rom you will be limited to using a special nougat android 7 rom. You can have safestrap on pie android 9 which gives you some ability to modify system files flash zips etc and have access too data and other partitions that are normally blocked but you can not run root on android 9 because root on android 9 requires a modified boot image
Anything here with a .7z extension will get unzipped before using
Anything here with a .zip extension will get flashed a zip in safestrap
Anything here with a .tar or .md5 gets flashed in odin
Anything here with a .img extension gets flashed as image in safestrap

so if i remain at nougat i should be able to flash custom roms? Also, i'm currently facing "no service" problem on my g995u. Any ideas if going back to nougat would rectify the issue?

Rooted Nougat Rom
This is last nougat rom made for S8 it is prerooted with flashfire and safestrap preinstalled. It has CSC stuff for all carriers added. Its debloated slightly with knox removed. Some stuff may not work but im not sure as I cannot test but this stuff may include fingerprint and or face recognition. If stuff doesnt work it probably related to using pie modems and non-hlos on a nougat rom which you have no choice.
Downloads

Includes Fingerprint and Face Unlock fix for above nougat rom. Just flash in BL slot in odin after everything else
Magisk_System-v20.4.zip This is system magisk not the normal systemless magisk so magisk hide and modules will not work!
SuperSU_System.zip
Safestrap-4.12-T01-DREAMQLTE_PIE.zip Will boot straight to safestrap only for pie roms
Safestrap-4.12-T01-DREAMQLTE_NOUGAT.zip Will Give you the safestrap splash screen on boot
Directions
Safestrap Method
1. Extract system.img from the system_s8plus_brb1.7z and copy to phone also copy either SuperSu_System.zip or Magisk_System-v20.4.zip reboot to safestarp and flash system image
2. Flash either SuperSu_System.zip or Magisk_System-v20.4.zip
3. Reboot to download and flash BL_G955_NOUGAT_V7.tar.md5 in odin
4. If you get constant rebooting to safestrap flash Nougat safestrap zip while in safestrap

i was on a g995u1 firwmare(bootloader v7) although i was having issues with "no signal". i thought maybe if i follow your guide to return the rom back to nougat my network would return to normal.
i only flashed this file "BL_ENG_BOOTLOADERS_SAFESTRAP_G955U_V7.tar.md5".
ps. i did tick the "nand erase" in odin.
the flash completed but my phone went black and did not reboot again.. i disconnected hoping to get it back to download mode again but nothing was working. i have tried using volume down and power keys but this only causes the a little part of the screen to flicker for less than a second.
my battery was 99%. I dont have qualcomm drivers installed. i am installing one as we speak, i have seen some threads with similar issues like mine but no solutions.. thanks for your response..:crying::crying::crying:

It happens once in awhile for no reason. Nand erase may have had something too do with it. I never use nand erase except if going back too totally stock from a modified system. I responded too your pm. You’re phone can probably be fixed with edl files but you are going too have too take your phone apart and jump some test points to make phone enter edl mode

I use to have pics and stuff but I lost them on a hard drive that failed. I can tell you they are on the bottom side of the board and you have to pry back a metal heat shield to get too them

OK, Thanks for the response. i see two large heat sinks with the larger one at the top and the smaller at the bottom. i assume the points would be hidden underneath the bottom sink. now i have to figure out a way to pry those metals off... so much work..lol..
Will this work on all V7 Bootloaders?
I am currently on DTF4 and noticed your on the Verizon page you posted for the DTB3 Bootloader. Thanks for your time and efforts.
