Wifi Issues - HTC One X

Has anyone else has wifi issues on their HOX? I think for me it was mostly after a OTA update to 2.17.751.2 that I notice my wifi connect was a lot weaker that it used to be and I wasn't picking up as many signals as I used to. Like I would get 2 bars where I used to get full bars
I messaged HTC about this and they said to try and press lightly on the back of the between in the area between the camera and the volume rocker and viola signal strength jumped to full and I started seeing many signals again. But the problem was I had to keep it held to keep the full signal.
I was wondering if anyone else had this issue and what they did besides sending it in.
P.S. I don't have warranty anymore.

Hi mate
its a common issue with the One x if u look at this tread it would help u
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538

There are two people who mentioned having weak wifi after the 2.17. I wouldn't do the squeeze test before trying the next ota(jb) or trying older roms first.

Search Menu keeps popping up randomly

I dont know if this is a problem with my phone or the ROM. This seems to happen intermittently and I dont know what to do about it. It drives me crazy especially when I am trying to text or do anything. Sometimes and it seems more frequent lately, when I unlock my phone and go to text or send an email and I am in the middle of typing.... all of a sudden, the search menu pops up repeatedly. Once this happens I stop touching the screen completely and it just keeps popping up and down continuously like I am pressing the search button at the bottom of my screen. It will do this for several minutes, sometimes longer. Then it goes away and I dont see it again for days. But it keeps happening.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem?
Things I have tried with no success... 1. check for debris stuck on the screen near the search button. 2. dirty screen. 3 replaced screen protector. 4. removed screen protector. 5. removed phone protector (otterbox) completely, no screen protector either, just phone.
None of these have stopped this menu popping problem. Please help? Should I just take this phone back and try and get a replacement? I am sure that if I do that, the tech wont be able to duplicate the problem. UUGHH!!
UPDATE: Found this thread about the same thing and, yes, it looks like low signal and ICS combo on 3G could be the culprit.

First off, it sounds like you have a messy situation with your phone pooping often. Kidding aside, I am having the same issue. I really thought it was faulty touch sensors. I am currently using AKOP build 7/20 and the issue seems to sporadically pop up. I am glad I am not the only one

Sprint is literally MADE of these phones.
They have so many that they're pushing them to Boost mobile.
Politely demand a replacement, insist that the issue is covered.
You will have no problem getting what you need.

Thank you for the advice. I will try it. Not sure if I should put my OS back to stock before taking in or not. I am currently running SuperGalaxy v1.3(FF18) ICS 4.04. Suggestions?

I called the Sprint store where I bought the phone and asked them about it and they said they were having a lot of similar issues since the latest OTA update. However, I told them mine has been doing it months before the OTA update, which is true. She suggested I bring it in nad have the tech look at it. So I will probably do that but should I put the OS back to stock first?
My ODIN Mode info below.
Custom Binary Download = 0
Current Binary = Samsung Official.

If you're running a safe recovery such as agat's, etc, then I believe a simple factory reset would suffice.
I'm somewhat new to the android os, so my statement above may need verified.
But I'm no greenhorn when it comes to getting these phones replaced: this is my fourth one!
The safest bet (and what I would do) is to ODIN back to ff18 stock. Or el29 even. Whatever.
Good luck! That button issue would be unbearable for me!

I will do that and make a backup first though. Thanks again!:good:
edit:i do believe the long-press of the 'menu' button brings up the new ICS search feature. long press of the 'search' button brings up the google voice search on my phone.
--
its not random..its when your in a low signal area.
I too thought it was faulty hardware buttons, but there was a thread here somewhere that mentioned it happens when in low signal area that caused the "menu" button to be pushed. this has been happening on my phone and others before ICS OTA.
not sure why its been happening, nor do i know of a fix

I am certainly in a low signal area. In fact, my signal is almost non-existant. What I dont understand is why roaming doesnt kick in and use whatever signal is available. I know that AT&T has signal boosters in my building and the signal is very strong. Maybe the signal issue is causing the problem but I have not seen that thread. I will do some searching and if I find it I will post here.
Same problem with my phone. Just got back from vacation, 10hr drive both ways using the phone for navigation there and back home, so the phone was in my line of sight the whole time. It always did it in low signal or slow data areas, or when data roaming kicked in. I have poor reception at the house and it starts as soon as I turn off the wifi.
Local sprint store is ordering me new phone. I'm running stock EL29..

So if you are running stock EL29 then that would rule out ICS as part of the problem. We are left with low signal on 3G. I have been watching closely over the past day and it only happens on my phone when low/no signal and no wifi. If I am connected to wifi then it doesnt do it. I am sure if I put my phone in airplane mode it wouldnt do it either. I will test that today.
New phone (like new replacement), no more problems.

Help? Wifi issue :(

Hi.
For about two weeks ago my Wi-Fi signal and radio signal drop a lot. I don't know what caused it, it had been laying over the night and when I turmed the Wi-Fi on, the signal was terrible. Going from 2-3 bars to almost not conecting at all at the same spot. I am quite sure it is not the antenna hardware fault. In my opinion I have pressed the area I am described to press pretty hard. I have an unlocked bootloader.
I don't think it is any software related thing I have done because it was several days since I had flashed anything or installed any mod. I have removed some of the things I considerd unnecessary, such as live walpapers. As far as I know I haven't removed any important parts. After that I installed a stock ARHD 9.3.2 to check if that could help, after that I checked with several AOSP roms. Nothing worked as far as I know.
At that point I used ARHD 9.1.0
-I might have installed faux06b mainline (repacked)
-I had installed:
APM
EQM
Faster gps fix
supercharger
soundrecorder txt mod
Hope any of you bright heads can help me. In advance thanks.
By pressing you made it worse unfortunately.
Look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538
Extensive thread about your issue and what to do in detail explained :good:
Well, the problem is that the signal was bad before I pressed to check if i had the hardeware fault. When the pressing didn't work, well as you said I guess it didn't help. If thwt would have been the problem it would be easier.

For the love of god/drugs/beer/etc. put a more descriptive title. Forum etiquette.
And yes by pressing you might have created the problem if it didn't exist. In my opinion, that whole pressing the antenna scene should be removed from that WiFi defect thread. I've messed up mine for the same reason, I tried checking for a problem that didn't exist and end up bending the antenna pins.
Sometimes people get weak wifi because of a weird flash of rom or kernel. I remember seeing posts in a JB rom thread where people were experiencing weak wifi, but you've knocked that off anyway since you tried different roms. I suggest relocking and giving it to HTC Service Center. Wait for more 'bright heads' to post though . Good Luck.
As I have tried to say, I had the problem before I pressed. But I installed AOSP to check if it made a difference. But thank you for the tip.

Any bright head got a clue? I would appreciate it a lot.

[Q] Cell reception issue

Hey guys,
This has been a big problem for me. My DHD often looses cell reception and it doesn't come back so I always have to activate then deactivate Airplane mode to get the bars back. Now first I have to say that this didn't use to happen when I was using the original firmware but for the past year I have been using many ROMs and I always have the same problem. For some ROMs I loose reception once or twice a day and for others more than five times. So if I don't carefully check my phone every hour I could miss phone calls.
I know some of you will tell me to flash the original ROM but really I can't go back from Jellybean to gingerbread. It would break my heart :crying:
So if you have any advice or solution to my problem I would really appreciate it!
Thanks.
anyone?
Try to learn about radios and maybe flash one, carefully...I'm clueless about those...but I think that's it.

[Q] A couple of Day 1 questions/issues

I've just gone through my first day of use with the LGOG, and a few issues have come to my attention.
The first is that while I was at work, i felt the device getting hot in my pocket. When I checked to see what was going on, it was searching for GPS. I had tried to use Maps, and it couldn't find me so later on I turned on location services/satellite GPS so it could actually find me. I haven't noticed it since. Could that have been the solution?
Issue 2 was that it seemed that my WiFi was turning on by itself, and it was draining my battery searching for a signal. I had turned it off when I left my house, but it seemed like it came back on and started searching in vain for a signal. I turned it off again, and haven't had that issue since. Has anyone else had this happen, or did I accidentally activate WiFi without knowing it and that's all there is to it?
One other issue I was having was with the text cursor freaking out and going to the front of my texts. I can't really remember for sure if it has happened since I updated to ZV9, so does anyone know if ZV9 had a fix for that or if I've just been lucky the past few hours?
Thats all I can think of for now, thanks for any help you guys can give me!

For your wifi randomly turning on make sure you have connection optimization off (system settings, mobile networks). ZV9 shouldve fixed the crazy text issue. Not sure about your device heating up with gps, maybe you had Google maps running in the background trying to pick up your location. Hope I helped!

I turned off the connection optimization, what exactly is its function? Will I get decreased mobile network performance with it off?
Also, I am wondering if anyone knows about the Qualcomm Enhanced Location Service. Does it help or hurt performance/battery life/etc...?

The connection optimizer basically turns on wifi to search for a signal and then shuts off if it can't pick up anything. Of course this only happens when you have it checked and using data. I'm not certain what the qualcomm enhancement location service does besides help you getting a gps lock.. I know I've always had it enabled and gotten an instant lock almost all the time with great battery life. On a side note, you'll love the speed and build of this phone, plus our devs are working hard to bring us jellybean sooner than sprint/lg

Thanks for your help, I will leave optimizer off and turn qualcomm on.
I came from the Evo Shift, and I am just blown away with the speed, screen clarity, and beauty of this device. I've had to go back to my old shift a couple times to get a thing or two off of it or check what apps I'm forgetting and each time I get pissed at how slow and small it is haha. I'm loving it so far, and hopefully with these small issues worked out I will love it even more. When the roms start dropping, well thats just a bonus =]
Thanks again you guys!

In regards to notifications, is there any way to limit update intervals for facebook? I feel like its going to eat my battery up if its always telling me about facebook stuff the moment its posted lol.
Also, is there any way to increase the rate that the notification light blinks? I feel its not blinking regularly enough for me to notice it if I've got a text or something.

Under facebook settings just change interval to update less regularly. I use flash blink. It actually flashes the LED light to let me know. Unless of course you want to be private about it.
To add a little about the Connections Optimizer: It's Sprint thing that they're adding to all of their phones. It basically turns on wifi briefly, even when wifi is off, to try to connect to open wifi networks. I'm pretty sure it's an effort by Sprint to keep people off their 3g/4g network and on wifi whenever possible to reduce bandwidth usage. It is also incredibly annoying, because it notifies me of the free wifi in my city (that's strong enough to locate, but not strong enough to transfer data and stay connected) every time I am in certain areas. The pop-up about new open networks also gets in the way of receiving phone calls sometimes. Turn it off. Android already connects to your remembered wifi networks automatically, and I think you can handle the wifi on/off toggling.

I couldn't stand connection optimizer. Walking through NYC to go to work, I'd look down and see my phone actually connecting to and using ANY open wifi signal on my walk down the blocks. I would think that's a huge security issue for phones to randomly connect to any network it sees. Just think of how well easily it could be to rig a router to sniff all those data packets!

Possible jelly been signal drop fix!

My problem: randomly stumbled upon the notorious phantom menace radio signal antenna drop that plagues jelly bean owners. My particular case ; if i opted to turn off "data" to save power etc then every five minutes the antenna would drop for maybe thirty seconds then come back (all actions monitored via gs battery monitor app).
What I tried previous to my supposed "fix ":
-I'm running cross platform roms currently synergy, knowing that I figured it was my d2att recovery image which I later flashed, it fixed my build.prop but that was it
-flashed back to stock recovery... No go (fyi I've owned the phone since it was new back in August, ran jb for months with no issues until several weeks ago when this began
-flashed and wiped many roms several times over with no fix
-flashed every Att fix possible along with the pages of thread research that went with it
- worked about every angle of network settings I could've imagined
It wasn't until recently I had decided to disable the phones stock power saving switch when I realized my antenna was stable once again! Upon toggling it back on the problem will resume.
update... this hasn't fixed **** as of now. don't know what happened it was working fine now it's back to its same ****.smh....

yes I have. thanks though
I recently discovered that this trick does work but it's intermittent. in order to stabilize the antenna I believe the connection had to of held a steady 4g signal for a brief period before killing power save them the data. but once that's accomplished its good until power is cycled off. it's weird, can anyone make sense of this?
