[Q] Multiple Contacts - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

This may be something dumb but all of the sudden my phone went nuts. I now have over 40 of the same contact. No idea how it happened. Is there something I can do to fix this? I really don't want it to happen again!

best thing to do is save contacts via google when you save them, and then grab them back from google, ive never had overlaps of double contacts unless i have it saved it in sim + the phone + google, that might be triple trouble. but try that and hope it helps.

I do save them to my exchange account. Just was wondering if anyone knew why it happened, would like to stop it from happening again!

Anybody with enough guts to delete their facebook sync account on their evo, reboot, then readd the account to see if their facebook contacts sync?

Already tried it about 5 times with no luck. I read elsewhere that it's a FB server issue.
Mine worked before I rooted, installed CM6 and then reverted back to stock 1.47 rooted image.
good to know. i spent HOURS trying to figure it out. now i have to reroot my phone becaue i unrooted trying to fix this ****.
I've been having issues with it all day and I'm on an unrooted rom. I deleted my facebook several times and even data wiped my phone trying to get it to work, all with no avail.
I have been going crazy about this also, trying numerous methods I found on Google. None of which worked. The weird part is it pulls my profile info from facebook, but nothing else, is that the same issue you all are having also?
It's definitely an issue on FB side (FB servers). Guys on Crackberry.com are having the same issues. It's not android specific.

[Q] Help?! 50 contacts limit cant save more then that.

I just noticed that people/contacts can only export 50 contacts from my phone. I noticed this because i saved the same number many times an upon exporting it gives me the 1/50 until it reaches 50/50 contacts exported to sd card, i also created dummy contacts to see if they get saved but they didn't, they showed on phone but trying to export they never show up. Ive lost several numbers that way thinking i was saving them then resetting my phone then importing them back in only to find out never got saved besides the original 50.
I have no clue right now where to start to fix this any one had similar problem that can help?
It may not be the answer or resolution you are looking for but I would highly recommend just syncing your contacts with google. Then you don't even have to worry about it because once you sync them, google will save and restore them with no need for interaction. Automagically if you will

Thats what the sprint rep told me. Rather save personal things offline to do myself. Really thats just a cop out with the price of the phone and its stature of a super phone.
Imagine the 1st landline phone people used and it gives you problems, you write to the company and they write back saying hey at lest you can scream out your window and they will be able to hear you.
he also told me to take it into a sprint store for them to trouble shoot. Now i have to root the phone back and put stock. major hassle. Unless there is a solution i can take to avoid all that. After that most likely i'll get new phone with stock 2.2 that cant be rooted as of yet.
I can tell you that i have never seen your problem before. I'm a tech at Sprint and i have done many contact export and imports, sometimes several hundred contacts and never had a problem unless it was the sd card.
You said that you might take to a Sprint store but will have to unroot and flash to stock first. Before taking it into Sprint, try going back to stock and see if that fixes the issue. Could be a rom issue that no one else is noticing or not reporting with whatever rom you might be running.
Also, thats not really a cop out when people suggest using google to backup your contacts. Thats how the phone was designed to work. If you must have that physical backup, then just backup your contacts to google, then import to outlook. Not the solution you wanted to hear I'm sure, but it's another alternative.

Also, if you just sync with Google, you can export straight from Google into a couple different formats.
thx

Yeah. Google recently changed their whole contacts page, but just go to contacts > More actions > Export... and then just choose all contacts, and the format:
Code:
Google CSV format (for importing into a Google account)
Outlook CSV format (for importing into Outlook or another application)
vCard format (for importing into Apple Address Book or another application)

G-Mail account showing new messages but cant see them?

So I have a notification over my email icon showing that I have new emails. When I enter the account though, no new emails are visible, even when I click refresh. I can go to my gmail account on my laptop and view the emails and when I do the notification counter goes down on my Evo. I cant figure out what is causing this. It started last night when I flashed a new Kernal. Any help guys?
Happens frequently
In gmail search "is:unread"
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Here is your fix:
Setttings>Applications>Manage Applications>(select the ALL tab at the top)Gmail>Clear Data
That should take care of your problem.
^Thanks man. Just read this and tried it out. I'll post back if this does fix it. I really hope thats all it was. It tried finding Gmail before but didnt click the All tab I guess. Again, thank you very much for your reply!!
Quick feedback: As soon as my emails synced back to the phone, some that were only showing on my laptop before are now showing on my phone. SO....it appears to be fixed, but I dont want to get ahead of myself either......but it does look promising . So is this common? Have you seen it before? What causes this? I have never seen this before, and dont know why this stumped after every thing else I am capable of doing to my phones.....Guess I was just caught off-gaurd.

Yes, it's common. Changing ROMs or doing a Nand restore or just too much filtergarb in the Gmail cache.
OK, good to know for the future since I guess there is a good chance of it occurring again. Its just strange that all of the ROMs and Kernals I have flashed, updating all radios(NV, PRI, Wimax, etc) that it has not happened before...guess I was just lucky untill this point.
Anyway, again, I appreciate your help and time.

It sounds like she truly didn't have her contacts saved to her Google account and they were all on her phone. The only way to clear out your Google contacts is to log into the Google contacts webpage and manually delete those contacts. (As far as I'm aware right now.)

Contacts always crashing the phone

Hello, I have a stock z1 compact and in the last 2 months every time I try to access the contacts or make a call the phone or contact app crashes making it a nightmare to make calls.
I have cleaned the cash, reinstated the full phone to factory, nothing works, anyone has a solution for this? Or an idea on why this happens? Is it the sync on LinkedIn and Facebook contacts?
Thanks for the support
Anyone?
No idea, never heard of it.
In any case, try to reset again and only sync google contacts, leave LinkedIn and Facebook away. If it still works, add either Facebook or LinkedIn and check again. If it still works add the third one and you might know the reason.
I there thanks for the idea I tried it yesterday actually and keeps doing the same thing I think I might go for a rom instead of stock. Can I do this having a branded phone?
You can do that, but I still wonder why it happens.
What exactly happens? Do you get the option to submit the data to google?
Which release are you currently running on the phone?
It just appears the damn error message of a app crash saying that the contacts application crashed and asking to close it.I am the latest version. Thanks for your help
Probably it's some contact which has some weird letter/symbol in his address. Maybe you could check all your contacts in gmail, if you synchronize it. But yeah, no idea why this is really happening.
Hehe damn computers! Well Thanks nevertheless for caring very much appreciated
