Hello,
I have received new galaxy nexus with stock JB but the battery life is really poor.
currently its showing:
57% Discharging
8hr 16m 18s on battery
Screen - 61%
Sygic - 9%
Phone idle - 7%
Map- 5%
Cell Standby - 4%
My screen brightness is made Auto.
I am using 2G network.
Plan to use the stock flavor for some more weeks.
Please help on the battery life and also how to underclock this stock JB (if possible)
If you want to under clock all you need is to unlock and root. You can stay on the stock ROM. Also... the battery life really doesn't seem to look that bad to me

Hi,
My phone is unlocked and rooted. Please help on how to underclock this.
Thanks!
How long is your screen on time from 100% to 5% without charging in between?

From 100% to 20% battery, screen time was still 61% of the total 13 hrs.
Any help on how to underclock on stock JB?

uh... 61% of screen on time is the percentage that the screen used of the portion of the battery that was used. it will always be the highest if you use the screen.
what is the time of screen on time? not the percentage.

If you could clock 4h+ after using it down to 5% battery, then there is nothing wrong. But you could under volt for a little more juice.
Beamed from my Grouper.
normally, i get around 3h30 screen on, 1d and a few hours on one charge.
with JRO03R, hit almost 4h yesterday. rom+kernel built with gcc 4.7 could have something to do with it as well. no uc/uv, io sched sio, governor interactive.
my guess is that your network coverage isnt so good.

This might not be relevant, but I was using the stock JRO03R image + Linaro kernel and I magically had little drain overnight, while with other custom ROMs my battery was losing capacity like crazy. Granted, there isn't much running to drain it, but seems impressive.
Also, with that ROM I managed to get pretty decent (6400 in Antutu, but just 2200 in Quadrant) benchmark results, which is weird since it's stock-ish.

yeah, it might not be relevant, i think bad/jumpy network coverage is more to blame than anything else; but, even for me, that have great network coverage everywhere i go (inside the subway i get normal coverage!), my build of JRO03R so far has been performing great. tweaked a few here and there, built with gcc 4.7, lost like 2% over 9h (sleep, wifi/sync on) on the first cycle! very happy.
I'm at 22 hours on battery with that JRO03R + Linaro ROM and I've got 2h 30 screen time, benchmarked using Antutu, Quadrant and Vellamo, kept everything besides Bluetooth on and had brightness set to Auto/25 percent. Seems decent, but not impressive since mobile data is not used, but rather Wi-Fi.

Hi, I was wondering if it's typical for the Evo's battery to take a rather large dip upon unlocking it after not using it for awhile but keeping it on. Around 15% under within the few minutes that I used it after waking it up from maybe about 4 hours or so of not using it and just keeping it locked without any phone calls or other disruptions.
Why does it seem to want to ramp up something like crazy when turning the phone on after not using it for awhile? Or does it actually need to do that to function? Thinking about trying out the conservative governor and jacking up the minimum MHz so the performance isn't horrid.
Using CM7.0.3.1 with SZen, have tried the SZ, smartass, and InteractiveX (current) governors.
Radios and what not are all up to date.
Trying other governors doesn't seem to help this issue at all (if it is an issue).
tried a reflash? I think i had some battery issues the first time i installed CM7. I currently use SZ 2.1 i think with SBC and BFS. My governer profile is set on savagezen and I get pretty good battery life. My phone never has huge battery drops unless I'm using the ever living crap out of it.
Nah, I had a 100% clean flash two times over, I reflashed last time for a different problem which was fixed because i was messing around with settings, not from the system/kernel. I mean I could reflash it again but I've had tons of clean flashes and always have noticed the issue, now that mostly everything else is fixed for me I'm getting around to this issue to see if it even is one.
Same problem drops 5% with in 2 minutes, I've calibrated tried cm7, miui, and stock they all do it...even bought a new battery...
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Mine doesn't necessarily drop a certain % in a certain way/timeframe, just a large dip after not using it for awhile. As if it's taking an enormous amount of resources to try and wake itself back up and stay awake after being asleep for so long.

I switched to a SBC kernel and fixed this issue. used to drop from 100 to roughly 85 % in as little as 10 min off the charger
did you re-calibrate you battery stats???
This is w an extended battery and an amount of usage today...its all about finding the right combo.
I reset battery stats every new kernel/ROM I change. Is it useful for any reason to reset after switching governors? I'm going to try Tiamat next probably.

I use SZ as well, doesn't help it.
Or rather, there's no immediate drop like i said for me. Just quickly depletes after a long wait.

What do you use out of curiosity? I'd love for mine to have a steady drop like that instead of a massive dip, 8hrs on a very decent amount of use too. Even with the extended battery that seems like so much. Unless the extended is literally double the life?
how are yall getting 22 hours of batter life lol
i bearly get 15 on a good day!
If yall could please post the settings you are using.
much appricaited and i will hit thanks to everyone!
the biggest part of battery life is your personal usage and what type of area you live in. If your phone is constant switching between edge/3g/H, your batery will drain fast. I can get over 12 hours battery life at home but when I'm at work I can't make it an 8 hour shift without charging
shortened .... there is a lot more than set up
I get almost 2 days of battery life ( 1day 20 hours). You must be rooted. This are steps you need to take:
1) Recondition your battery, 2) Flash a good kernel (I use Faux's) 3) use a CPU manipulator app like SetCpu, System Tuner, Fauxclock, etc and set it to Conservative and default Voltage settings 4) Be smart about your usage--use wifi as much as possible, and reduce screen brightness. If you stream Netflix over 4G or play Asphalt all day then your battery life will suck.

I use his latest kernel 0.0.6u found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372690
I dont underclock. I use the default settings that come with the app. I dont have time to play with overclocking and underclocking to find the sweet spot. Default works good enough for me.

i use that rom/kernel combo and if I just use my phone as a time piece I drain about that 1-2% an hour..... under light use I drain about 8% an hour.... under heavy use I drain like 13%. That is using my definitions of light and heavy use
As stated above and additional the way you use your phone. What you have installed..what kernel you are using. Stock/hacked kernel(which helps battery life)..believe it or not you can get 16 to 18 hrs on stock kernel. I've tried it. Tip.. Uninstall / Freeze what you don't need. Decrease brightness. Clear ram/cache.. Calibrate your battery. Turn it off let it charge till 100% remove the battery from the phone wait like a minute. Put the battery back turn phone on. Plug charger wait till 100%. You should be good.
Ooh also check if its leaking or bulky which signify bad battery.

Good tip about Black wallpaper. It does help with battery. I take a closeup picture of a black object ( I use my black leather couch) and save it as a wallpaper.
Screen at lowest brightness and barely using it . I have had 38 hours of battery time but in reality if I use it so that the screen is on much then you get about 6-8 hours. Some people say yhey use heavily but they describe playing music which doesnt require the screen being on.
Also if you are in the area where it switches edge to 3g then the constant change will drain your battery. Stay in a strong 3g area no blue tooth no wifi it will bring your battery usage up. I hit 19 hours on full wifi no bluetooth and maybe 30 minutes of talking , 50 sms or so. The main issue is can you go between outlets, if you can then the phone is doing its job. I have a phone charger at work at at home and during the time its not plugged in (road trips) i can get 12+ hours and thats enough time to go between chargers.
Bullet 2.9b + juice defender. 20 hours EASY

like people has been saying, a lot of the screenshots posted don't show how long their display time on is (when you tap display in the battery usage). I think this averages around 3 1/2 to 4 hours display time on (varies on settings). 4 hours display on is extremely good.
Question: i don't know why but my battery usage graph likes to reset itself and only show my usage AFTER it drops from 100%. For example, right now under the graph it says 2hrs 50mins... but on top it says 3hrs 43mins. and yes im pretty sure i've had the phone unplugged after a full charge at 3hrs 43 mins ago... Does this happen to anyone else?
I got 1d 19hrs running beast mod 4.2 setcpu oc'd to 1.8/ondemand. 50% screen brightness with moderate usage.

I believe the graph only gets updated whenever your battery percentage drops. In your example above, the phone had been staying at the current percentage for almost an hour, which is a good thing.
Hello there fellow Galaxy Nexus owners, I am trying to figure out if my battery life is normal/abnormal and am hoping to get some data form other users. If you could please post
Screen Time:
Brightness Setting: (either as a % or auto)
LTE or GSM
And if you want maybe info about 4G/3G/Wi-Fi and what you do when the screen is on.
Mine recently has been about
ST: 2.5 hours on average, maybe less
Brightness: all the way down most of the time
4G off, on Wi-Fi most of the time, web browsing/ texting
Usually 4-5 hours screen on time with the Samsung extended battery on my GSM Nexus. Wifi doesn't seem to make a huge difference
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Brightness Setting: close to 0% about half of the time otherwise auto
LTE
I turned of 4G most of the time; nly use WIFI indoor.
And battery use shows 65% of screen time with moderate to low use.
I don't play games on my phone.
Screen tine is 4-4:30
On official extended battery
4g is always on but it mostly sleeps cuz I am always on Wi-Fi
Brightness is auto

4-5 hours screen on time with extended battery. Wifi ALWAYS on, bt & gps off, 4g off most of the time. Minimal sync settings. Lowest brightness.
GSM - 3G always on
Brightness 25% to 50%
I get around 3h to 3h20m
I can answer this thread easily.
Gsm stock battery: 4 hours screen
Gsm extended battery: 5 hours screen
LTE stock battery: 2.5 hours screen
Thats what most people get.
I would love to know what people are doing to get good battery with this thing. I just got the phone yesterday, the LTE version. I have the Verizon 2100mah extended battery.
I am at 6h 12m unlugged and at 35%. My on screen time is 2h 2m.
I am on 3G in a good coverage are. Phone sleeping when off but sucking battery when on. I am running 4.0.4 with auto brightness.
As soon as I unplug the phone and use it a little it runs through the 90's like nothing...The first few drops are like immediate.
If this is the extended battery I cannot image the standard one. I hope someone has a suggestion or this thing will need to go back. I was just starting to like the device coming from an E4GT but battery on that was great.
There isnt much you can do for the LTE version. For some rrason it just gets less battery life than the gsm version.

Even with LTE turned off! Man, this is sad. Here I was, thinking with a 2100mah battery I will be more then good for a full day of juice...
I am curious to see how the stock battery can be worse. I might just try it tomorrow...Man, this feels like the days of the EVO 4G.
Thats my best so far :
Galaxy Nexus GSM
AOKP B22
Leankernel 1.7.4 exp. 2 230Mhz
Default GSM Battery
Displaybrightness always at 40%-50% static
SetCPU:
Interactive X 350 - 1200 MHz
ScreenOff Profile
Undervolted (about 100 mv over all frequencies)
I know there was a small charge in between when i had i plugged in my Laptop, but its just a small charge maybe 5%.
At the moment i get 3,5h - 4h with latest Leankernel on AOKP b 23

kind of sad the LTE version has so much worse battery life, I still can't decide if I want to keep the phone. Other phones should be getting ICS soon and the battery life on the GNex is killer.
It is really sad because I get a very slow drain when the phone is in deep sleep, but as soon as that screen comes on, oh boy does it drain. I probably lose 4 or 5% over night (~ 8 hours).

Does the extended battery make your GNex much bigger/larger than normal ?
Where can I buy one ?

I am a heavy texter with medium to low wifi usage. Sometimes I play games on my cell (Everlands) & last night I did some chatting.Usually battery last about a day but sometimes it goes down like after 16hrs which is quite low for what I have heard about this phone. Any way to identify the problem is ?
Maybe that is because I did not really charged uninterrupted on the first day due to constant loadshedding here in my city (about 1.5 hr gap in charging). I've heard Better battery stats is a good way of locating draining problems but I couldn't really understand it well enough to use it to my advantage.
Also I have set my brightness to lowest most of the time so thats quite surprising. Also net usage is mostly web browsing, no google maps or auto sync feature enabled as far as I know. Any tips about locating the problem ? Could hard reset possibly solve this issue ? Anyway my phone is less than 1 month old (3 weeks old) so should I consider taking it to service centre & getting battery replaced. Please help.

The battery is calibrating within 3 weeks if the phone is new (5-10 charge cycles) so the problem might not be a real one.
Are you on stock rom, stock kernel?
IF not, do you have kernel with overclock capabilities (titanium kernel, kiss kernel)?

I'm having 48% after 10 hours with screen on at 61% but it is like this because i plugged in to my computer last night to put something on the sdcard.
In general your informations are alright, that is a fairly good battery life. Remember that you have a smartphone with gpu and cpu, and it is normal to eat battery even if when you don't play with it because it makes stuff in the background.
The great battery life i got at 3 days with 50% screen on, wifi, calls, sms at 10-15% but not on stock, using CM9/Paranoid Android and tweaked kernel for better battery life .
In conclusion, don't worry about it. Your battery is fine!
If you really want better battery life try flashing a custom kernel like KISS or Titanium and undervolt your CPU.
I managed to undervolt mine alot (-300mV while idle) and battery life increased to almost 3-4days, which is really impressive compared to 1.5days it lasted before.

Screen is mostly at 70-80%.
As far as i am considered thats good,a lot of phones these days cant even get to 24h.
It works perfectly stable with the following settings:
Clock VDD (mV)
'24576 700'
'61440 700'
'122880 700'
'184320 700'
'192000 700'
'245760 700'
'368640 700'
'768000 850'
'806400 850'
'1024000 950'
Took me about 2 days to find them.
Sadly you cant go any lower then 700mV, seems to be a kernel restriction.

Also, I have 2 stock One V's in the family, rooted but no custom ROMs. Both devices on occasion (once a day at least) appear to be in sleep mode but taking the phone into a completely dark room reveals the backlight is still on (albeit very dim).
This is the only thing I see that's keeping my stock ROM from outstanding battery life. Even as is it get good battery life, but I also double check periodically to make sure the screen really is off.

It's from Dianne Hackborn, android developer for Google.
from here
Root your phone, put kernel titanium kiss, make it with 1.2GHz and smartassV2 cpu governor and than flash with full wipe myOneV 8.0 rom, put display brightness to automatic you will have stunning results.
P.S. make back ups to your data but do not restore it all from recovery
I'm on CM11 M6 and I recently was forced to switch back to the stock OEM 2100 mAh battery from Samsung due to a heat problem with my external battery. I'm just trying to see if what I'm getting is normal battery life or if there is any tweaking I can do to improve battery life?
ROM: CM11 M6
Kernel: KT747 AT&T 4.4 with Asswax CPU governor and BFQ scheduler
Battery: Stock OEM 2100 mAh
You seem to be around normal results from what I've gathered. On stock battery you should be getting around 4hrs of screen on-time. This of course varies on the age of the battery as they run out of juice as they get older.

4.3 touchwiz only gets me 2:45 on screen time, 4 hours is generous.

I've only ever been able to get 4+ hours of screen-on time with a larger 4200 mAh battery from Hyperion. At the most on either AOSP rom's or stock rom I get about 2.5, MAYBE 3 hours depending on kernel setup.

Yeah thats way below norm imo. I can't prove it atm as I haven't used my phone as much today but I've attached a SS of my stats as they stand atm.
I've got approx 2hrs of listening to music on there. Thus the large difference between screen on/awake time. Otherwise after 10+ hrs of discharging it's looking great to me.
I'm thinking of leaving my screen on for a couple hours tomorrow, I'll come back with the results if I do perform the test.

Here you go gents, after 2hrs of screen on time I still have 50% of my battery remaining. Leaving me with approx another 2+hrs in the remaining battery life as the initial 2hrs was gathered in almost 5hrs. This is using the stock Samsung 2100 mAh battery.

How are you achieving these stats? One of the things about Android that really pisses me off is I always feel the need to do my own power management and I can't seem to find a way that sticks.

I don't do much to be completely honest. The only thing I do specific to power management is use Greenify to Hibernate apps that are causing excessive wakelocks.
Other than that, I have Quantum 3.63 ROM with QuantumKernel 3/16 installed running with intelliactive and row.
