I just picked this phone up, coming from the ET4G. My WiFi keeps turning itself back on. Am I missing something simple?
Thanks!

Sprint automatic connection, under mobile network/auto connect uncheck it.
Ok thanks man. Does you phone go into roaming a lot? Mine does, I had the OG Evo and it was never a problem but this new phone seems like it's always in roaming. I have already done a PRL update multiple times.

Uncheck sprint automatic connection in mobile network in settings.
Settings -> More settings -> Mobile networks -> Automatic Connections -> Uncheck Sprint automatic connection
Thank you sir that seems to be the fix thanks again
Sent from my Sprint GS3
I have done this and it still keeps coming on automatically. The only fix I have had so far is to forget my passwords to the wifi connections I have. Is it possible that the power saving feature is cutting it on. Thanks for any responses.
Whst you need to do is turn off sprint connection thing that shows up th first time you boot your phone. Just uncheck it.

I ended up having to delete Sprint Connections all together. Even with it unchecked Wifi would still randomly turn.

This happens to me aswell. Although it seems to be when I'm close to a saved location..which is often... never noticed it happening at random hot spots that are not saved...

FYI, for the 3rd update in a row Sprint enables Connection Optimizer by default. It is a HUGE battery drainer in the past, and maybe even more so in the JB release. Remember to go into..
Settings --> More Settings --> Mobile Networks --> Connections Optimizer
and uncheck.

But does it stick as disabled when you disable it? I had that problem in LI3 and I ended up freezing it with Titanium Backup.
You have to go to /system/app and delete or rename Connection Manager.apk.
Even if you disable it. It will be turned on again.
That's the Sprint "don't use your unlimited data"
That sh** is all day long scanning for Wi-Fi.

I haven't had the issue of it turning back on. Once unchecked it no longer shows up as a battery hog and no longer turns in my Wi-Fi

Same here. But true it is sprint trying to cheat us from getting internet off 3g. That's why to get back I leave Pandora on all night almost every day. Lol talk about data usage.

Same here.
It is causing hell on my phone today. Keeps flipping out and flapping my WiFi connection. Just checked it in Better Battery Stats...yep, this is the third worst offender behind screen and media services. And Sprint pushed out a buggy update that won't let people turn it off...
With this and their incredibly stupid removal of Internet Calling, I can see LJ7 being pulled or a fast update being pushed out ASAP.

I find this quite interesting... I get great life leaving it on... I have disabled many other things and restricted my background data but not this... interesting indeed
Oh here is a picture of what I get with it on... ill do some tests in the coming days to verify which setting is better

Did you try freezing it?

I usually connect to wifi at work, but it is currently down, so I shut down wifi on the phone.
Of course, connections optimizer turns it right back on since it knows there is a network here. So, I decide to turn off CO, then turn off wifi. And wifi immediately turns back on. Then, when I check CO, it is enabled again.

Do you have root? You can try freezing it with Titanium Backup Pro

Yeah, we had that with one of our reps advocate device, it was a persistent little bastard but he finally got it to stay off. I think he might have thrown a reboot in there somewhere

Not rooted. Wifi is up and running again, so not a big deal. Just something I noticed.

Do you have "Google's location service" enabled under "Location Services"? That setting "Lets apps use data from sources such as Wi-Fi..."
Big tip about connection optimizer. Once you uncheck it do not go back into the connection optimizer setting. Doing so will automatically enable itself. I don't know why sprint does this but it's been like that on my GS2 and now on my Note. Try unchecking it and hitting home. Once you do that manually turn off wifi and see if it stays off.

That shouldn't matter. I always keep those on they don't turn on wifi automatically. It gets location if you're on wifi but if you're not it'll use your network connection instead.

Do not go back into Optimizer again once you turn it off! It's like that on any Sprint device. It will automatically turn itself back on.
If you're rooted, just delete the app. That's what I did

I bet you have Connections Optimizer turned on by default. In the settings menu click
More Settings > Mobile Networks > Connections Optimizer > uncheck the box in the top right.
Basically, it saves your known wifi locations and turns it on when you are in that area. It drove me nuts when I first got the phone.
Ok. ...I tried that and it was on but wifi STILL keeps connecting. ... it's blowing my mind

Yes I did

I've had that happen on a phone that didn't have the connections optimizer. I think I fixed it by unchecking 'Notify me when an open network is available' in the advanced settings. Have you tried that? Not sure if it will work for you...
