So, I recently updated my Glide to ICS via the offical Samsung Kies way.
I was having problems with it to say the least, so i sought out a root, and began to follow the directions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378082
I assume this is not for phones with the Official ICS update on it because when i reached step 10. After pushing the Kernel via Odin...and waiting for my phone to reboot. All i get is the Samsung logo across my screen with a ! at the bottom with a yellow triangle around it. It doesn't go anywhere else. I am able to reboot into Download mode so i hope there's a way to fix it.
So if anyone can point me in the right direction on this, i'd be much appreciated.

reflash the ics update via odin. should get you back running
Once you get it back on ICS use this guide to root it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30233038 Read the first 2 posts and you should be able to get root with no problems.

Ive got ICS back on my phone, finally. However i keep getting "unfortunately, the process com. android.phone has stopped." And am unable to get service, i did receive a text message, however i was unable to open my messages without the above mentioned error message. Seems pretty hopeless right now.
SUCCESS!!! Thank you everyone. I'm still experiencing some of the same issues i had before i started all this mess. (for some reason people can hardly understand me on the other end of calls, when i put the noise supression on it gets a little better, but meh) Other than that i have no idea if i attained root or not. lol. I did however have CWRM touch working and installed superuser from .zip from it...so i assume that means i also attained root? Thanks again!

Okay, this might not be the place to get some divine intervention to start (or stop) happening, but I'm really starting to get a nervous breakdown and I desperately need some help. I'm going to tell you my story, because it's my last resort before throwing this phone in a fire and never buy anything Samsung related ever.
So the phone came out of the box and for some magic reason I got the bootloader unlocked and phone rooted. It all started with installing CWM I think. This stopped my phone from taking OTA updates. Of course I could have known, but for some reason I installed CWM. I don't know why! I regret it, I don't even want a different ROM installed, I thought it was necessary to root the phone. So when I got the OTA, at first I was like YEAH YEAH, but then the on the back laying android with the exclamation mark turned up and I felt like I wanted to kill someone. It was 2 in the morning and I had to get up early to go to Dublin for two weeks. This was really not the time...
So after trying a few times of getting the OTA update message again and failing every time I got it, I started searching. Yes, CWM is installed so you can't OTA they all said. Nice, now I hate on the back laying androids AND CWM. Of course the one to hate is me, but I already hate myself so that's no use. Anyway I used the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit 5.6 to put back stock recovery. Now I had to wait a few weeks again before the update turned up again... By this time the phone started to be REALLY slow when scrolling through the home screen(s). It also is empty before the day is done, but I don't know if that's because of the phone being f'ed up or because I'm too demanding.
Anyway, back to the story. Finally the update came about a week ago, and again I was like YEAH YEAH! But then the on the back laying android with the exclamation mark turned up and I felt like I wanted to kill someone. To make things more fun it did a reset of my Go Launcher, 7 screens of widgets and autistic arranged shortcuts gone... Of course I wanted to try again, so this morning the OTA came again and had the same result. By now I killed quite a few, so this has to end, but don't worry there is more torment ahead.
I can't figure out what is wrong now, so I thought, f~ this s~, this phone deserves a full undress and back to the womb operation. So installing all Galaxy Nexus Toolkit v6.0 stuff and drivers. Connect phone, start toolkit, choose 3 (GSM 4.0.2. build ICL53F), phone turns up in main menu, try to put back recovery, -waiting for device-...
It stopped... Or it didn't really stop, it just stood there saying, -waiting for device-... So again a few innocent people died. Tried a different choice, (relock bootloader, just to give the phone a good beating) -waiting for device-...
I raged, pulled my hair, again killed a few, silently cried in a corner and finally started typing this eulogy...
Please kind sirs and madams, help me get this phone back to stock 4.0.4, accepting OTA, bootloader unlocked and rooted, I'm really desperate...
Why did you even root it? If u have root and cwm, you should be able to flash the rooted version of whatever stock os update you want. OTA's are a waste, you just wait a few hours for xda devs to root it and make it flash able.

How do you proceed?
First you need the SDK for you system
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
After this you have to start the SDK manager and install "Android SDK Tools" and "Android SDK Plattform-tools" if you are using Windows you have to install USB drivers too. You could find this under the point "Extras".
After that you have to download the factory image to clean your device, once.
(Notice your SD-Card gets wiped)
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Look for right version, which fits to your device.
Now you have to bring your telefon into the bootloader by pressing all 3 buttons at the same time Volume+/Volume-/Power. After this you have to unlock your bootloader if you don't already done this.
Now plug in your phone into your computer an go into the unpacked folder from your factory image. There would be an file called flash-all. You have to run this file. Now your phone is flashed with stock rom, stock kernel newest baseband and stock recovery. Now you get ota updates from google. After this you should look for an howto root your phone in the developer section. You don't have to install clockworkmod recovery for rooting. But clockworkmod isn't change the ota. You get OTA with cwm.
Hope i understand your problem an you could understand my bad english. But i want to help. If some questions ask here into the thread.
regards

When the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit says "-waiting for device-..." you need to turn off your phone, press the volume down then the volume up then the power button together. Once you have done that the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit will continue.
There is also tutorials on youtube on how to use the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit.
I hope that helps.
If you want to head back to stock ROM, then one of the ways to do it would be to install Android SDK & then follow the instructions from Google developers site.
Else you can try using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit to do this for you. I think the latest version is 5.7.

Ah yes, I now see where I went wrong with the toolkit, I didn't put the phone in fastboot. Stupid...
How is the stock recovery supposed to look like? After putting back stock recovery with the GN Toolkit, I press 'vol+/vol-/power' and choose recovery. It then displays the belly up android with exclamation mark. Is that the way it should be? Am I doin' it wrong?
yes it is the stock recovery. But you dont need it. Flashing everything into fastboot mode(bootloader)
So, I'm currently running a stock phone, but OTA won't update my phone...? Why is OTA constantly failing if I'm running everything stock? Is my bootloader supposed to be locked? Is a rooted phone not updated OTA?
If you flashed the latest Factory-Image there is no OTA out there. It is the newest version of ICS for your Device.
Maybe i don't understand what you mean with failing OTA. Could you explain it a little bit more?
As I said in the long story, I'm currently 4.0.2. and every time when my phone says, "You have update 4.0.4. standing by, please reboot" it fails.
i would prefer to flash the factory image and root your phone again
then you have a cleaned phone and OTA should work but you don't need them because you are at latest version.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
i wrote how you could flash it page before, remeber you wipe your data from sdcard

I don't know if I can answer why the OTA isn't working (I'll leave that to smarter men than I), but having an unlocked bootloader and root access won't stop the OTA. I had my phone in that state when the 4.0.4 update came out and all was fine, just had to run the command to get root of my phone again as OTA removes root.
Ah great! S~ has just hit the fan, it's bootlooping after trying option 8 (flash stock rom from google). Oh I really am going to kill myself sooner or later...
Edit: not killing myself yet, just had to pull the battery... Let's see what I f~ up next...
Very strange you problems i don't know the Toolkit and don't know how it flash the stock rom. But i could imagin that it only flash rom and not the other things like recovery and so on.
Try out the hard way without toolkit and use sdk and included batch file into the factory image. it is the clean way and you see whats done.
Ok, I now rebooted the phone after option 8 in the toolkit and it seems I'm running 4.0.4. I have to go to Brussels now for two weeks, but I'll try to post some screenshots later. I'll also be back to thank all of you for holding my hand, I just don't have the time right now. Of course this won't be my last problem (I still have a TF101 that needs some RMA action), but I hope I won't be needing too much time consuming support anymore.
Just got in the hotel, and unable to use my phone in Belgium. No available network... Wifi works, 2G/3G works in The Netherlands, 2G/3G unavailable in Belgium...

If you dont want to root and or flash roms, and knowing android its buggy and you gotta be stuffing with the phone all time to be able to be up to date, cuz even google releases updates oftem and even with OTA things can go wrong, meaning you have to do stuff again...
Dont blame Samsung or google the whole system needs some fixes all time.. I was devoted to stock but after i tried AOKP (Milestones) i wont ever go back to stock and or another rom, these guys has loads of features for a better user experience, stable as hell, and great support, but as you show with your very active/traveling life and those killer instints (poor innocent people), why dont you just go Iphone?
No need to flash anything and will plain work... Thats it no need to worry about anything but being an apple fan boy xDD

I attempted a root on Samsung Note 2 Sprint version (in white). Followed all steps, however phone got stuck in a reboot loop right after I put the option 2 (root only) Odin step in. Sprint ver LPH889 (I believe that is what Odin is calling it, option 72). Toolkit used was ADB 4.1.0.
Original symptoms were that the Android updater was looping trying to load everything; being new I made it worse and tried recoveries and reloads which also failed. Now it boots, goes to splash, circling blue oval image and...it stays there.
Good news: I have access to download mode and recovery reset mode (including sideloading).
Bad news: every thread I've followed has given me an issue.
I have recovery access but I need some idea of where to go from here and searches have shown near but not exact symptoms. I have unplugged it from the pc, removed the battery, done a factory reset, attempted to reflash via Odin (root) attempted to reflash stock via Odin and so far I am still stuck in a reboot loop. Windows detects the phone but shows a problem in device manager because possibly it won't stop rebooting. Any help you can provide is appreciated and if at all possible I need to recover some form of working phone here, and soon. My girl needs it for work and Sprint's network in my area barely works from day to day (which they admit but don't credit my account for). This phone has problems sending/receiving calls, they claim it's fine, and I was forced to try a root to get some form of working device. That failed too.
I'm a newb at this...it's been years since I flashed a phone (Razor v3), so...any help would be appreciated, otherwise I have to crawl to sprint/samsung and get it replaced, which I don't want to do. Thanks.

I thought it would to but I did not want to dig through 70+ pages of the thread when searching failed...unless I really needed to. Most of it is old and doesn't apply.
I was directed by the referenced Youtube vid. I used the options referenced for the phone in this thread with that toolkit. I backed up existing files (not as one unit, but internal files and I think OS), went for the option 2, followed the instructions and things went great through odin...until android went to update and started looping with the 'updating files' percentages. At that point I tried to restore to basic and started clearing caches and such and that is how I got to where I am.
When that failed I started looking at the leaked stock flash and that failed on shoot.ini which that guy never addressed because he thought his international version was all versions (that's why I choose 'doesitwork?' as screen name ). So i'm down to sideloading or something. I really need guidance, and I emailed the toolkit author but I'm still waiting on a reply.
Any thoughts?

When used the toolkit a year ago, I found that I had to turned off all firewalls and antivirus apps for it to work properly. Once I did that it worked fine....give it a shot...can't hurt......might even be able to repair what you've done so far.....Good Luck!!!
I'll give this my best shot...download a rooted rom from the development section and place it on your SD card.
Download toolkit from here (I take no credit for this) http://d-h.st/iu0
Put phone in download mode.
Open ODIN and uncheck "auto reboot". Then click "PDA" and add the .tar file (recovery).
Plug phone into PC (make sure to have samsung drivers installed).
Once ODIN sees the phone you can click "start".
When the recovery flash is complete, pull your battery to ensure power down.
Boot into recovery : volume up, home, power all at the same time.
Flash rooted rom.
Toolkit is an extra and unnecessary step.

Grab the one click flavor of choice. Use the one with 1090526 in the name as that's the full version.
Open in windows, put phone in download mode and flash. Easy Peasy.

I searched all yesterday and today and cannot re-root after upgrading from 4.1.2 to 4.3. Previously rooted using Odin, SuperSU, Titanium Backup Pro, ODIN_CWM6.tar.md5
I took the phone back to stock using unroot through SuperSU and upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.3 OTA with no problems. I've been trying to re-root using numerous combinations (ODIN3 v3.07) and no matter what I do the Samsung Security notice blocks rights to SuperSU (beta v1.76) and Titanium Backup Pro so it won't root. This is the message I get:
"Security notice - unauthorized access to a secured area has been blocked. Tap to learn more."
The most recent md5 file I've tried is CF-Auto-Root-d2usc-d2usc-schr530u.tar.md5 but nothing else has worked either. I'm at my wits end and my brain is about ready to explode. I just need to be able to access Titanium Backup Pro so I can shut off a few programs and processes. Any help is VERY VERY much appreciated. Thanks!!!!!

I have same phone. Recently went to Slimbean (4.3.1). I have Triangle Away and it couldn't access root. I also used CF-Auto-Root. Used a root check app, it says I am rooted. Odin also said device passed. Super User says I am missing a binary and I need to root manually. Trying to find that info
If you find anything out please let me know. A root checker says I'm rooted but I can't access SuperSU or Titanium backup as the S3 is blocking it.
Did you get the Slimbean 4.3.1 for USCC and if so where?
There was just a new SuperSU update and it granted me access to everything. I asked if I wanted it to disable KNOX and I said yes. Titanium Backup works and so does Triangle Away. I think I'm good to go.
How did you update?

I tried to download the simple update but my phone wouldn't update to the 4.3 so I did it over the air. You probably know but the OTA software update is in "about device." We have four S3s in our home and only one of them hasn't been able to get the download OTA yet. The only bug that I've found is when you start the phone it will show numerous downloads in the notifications and they will come back even if you clear them. The way to get rid of them is to go to the download icon (green arrow) and clear all the downloads and restart. Hope this helps.

I have downloaded the simple update, but get an error msg while trying to install to computer. (1152: error extracting) whatever that means. I uninstalled all Samsung anything from my computer, restarted, shut off firewall & Norton, downloaded again, but same thing while trying to install to computer. I updated to 4.1.2 this way, but keep getting an error on 4.3 update.
I tried to go through Kies. It updated Kies to 2.6, it said Kies3 was for 4.3. When I tried to hook into Kies, it refuses to accept my IMEI #. Says its incorrect. wth. The Samsung Chat Tech told me USCellular 4.3 update wasn't available yet through Kies OTA.
When I tried to get the 4.1.2 update through the phone, it would never give it to me. Even though I unrooted and used Triangle Away, it still knew my sg3 was modified. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Do you have any suggestions ? I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to these phones.
I'm sorry to bother you with this, but it's rare to find someone with USCellular on here. Thank you so much for your time.
I got the error message too so something is wrong with the download from Samsung/USCC. Just keep trying to do the OTA update and maybe it will go through. My GUESS is that Samsung and USCC stopped doing the update because of a couple bugs or issues. The reason I say that is I updated mine one day (worked), my wife's the next (worked), my son's the next days later (worked) and tried my other son's a couple days later and no update for him. I unrooted mine before the update without doing triangle away so I don't know if that really has anything to do with it at all. However, it does have to be unrooted if you do the OTA. Good luck!
I used Triangle Away, then unrooted. My phone still says 'modified' even though counter no longer says 2. When I try OTA through the phone, it constantly sticks on 'checking for updates'. I'm sure it's because it still says modified. I tried using Kies, my phone will not connect. Keeps saying my s/n is incorrect. I understand my IMEI has been corrupted.
I have started a thread on here for some help in how to get the 4.3 update.
Thank you so much for trying to help me. I will be eligible for an upgrade soon. I just may have to wait to have anything more than 4.1.2.
Again, thank you.

I searched all yesterday and today and cannot re-root after upgrading from 4.1.2 to 4.3. I always do a ton of searchs no matter what forum I'm on because I don't want to seem lazy like some others out there but this is beyond me. I registered so I could make a thread and this is what I have and the situation:
Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-R530U
US Cellular
upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.3
kernel 3.031-2025306 [email protected] #1
baseband version R30UVXUBMJA
build number JSS15J.R530UVXUBMJA
SE for Android status Enforcing SEPF_SCH-530U_4.3_0010
hardware version R530U.01
Thanks!!!!!

it looks to me like samsung are finally making a stand against rooting although i do not agree with this as i use an app called freedom and when i open it i get a security issue from Samsung
The only reason i left iphone for samsung was because i felt like they had something other apple with hardware and i was happy to do this as i could get root access but for now i see that this might not be possible for a while.
i recommend installing a normal superuser.apk and that might work but i cannot check this right now as i am out
i hope this little bit of information did help in anyway
First of all let me say THANKS to all of the dedicated folks on this website that I have found to be most useful while looking for help.
My problem may have been discussed previously, but after doing much browsing I must not be using the right keywords to find a resolution.
I am having issues with a SGH-i747 running stock 4.3 that I just purchased, so I have no clue what may have been done to it in the past.
So as the title says - The green android while booting into recovery mode just falls over with red triangle, and underneath it flashes - No command - Error - No command.
Also if I do try to flash anything - I get several RED errors in a row basically saying - E: No data folder found and a few other things before it quickly reboots and I can't see what the other errors are.
Would appreciate any ideas you folks may have - Thanks.
TWRP had an Odin flashable .tar. If you need recovery you should be able to just use that or terminal command to install.

This is how I discovered the android falling over issue.
While attempting to install clockworkmod.tar through Odin which will PASS
But then when entering recovery mode I get the stock recovery with green android falling over & data errors.
I have performed this same procedure on my other phone which is identical make and model but starting off with stock 4.1.2 without any issues.
I have also tried flashing philz_touch_6.0.7.9-d2att.tar.md5, but that creates a whole new set for errors & fails.

Push it in Terminal Emulator app. Instructions here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2170635&highlight=recovery+terminal. This forces it top the memory block, so should work. I'm asuming the phone boots and you are rooted.

Boots up just fine & Unlocked, but is not rooted yet - This is why I tried getting clockworkmod.TAR & CWM_SuperUser_v3.0.7 (1).zip flashed.
But my main concern is getting the android falling over issue fixed at the moment, and I think the rest will resolve itself once that's accomplished.
I realize I am no rocket scientist with android phones (Galaxy S3), or I wouldn't be looking through these help forums, and asking for advice.
But it seems to me it's like fixing your car - You need to figure out the root cause of the issue rather than putting band aid patches on it.
Seems like the operating system has other issues to deal with other than obtaining root access at the moment, or it wouldn't keep giving me errors stating that it can't access the DATA files.
Maybe my way of thinking is way off base? Thanks for all your input anyways & I will click the THANKS button if it lets me.

I understand exactly what you mean, but root access can be a key to you here. Your recovery is broken or at least something in a system file is harming what recovery is trying to do. Problem is these are not accessible without root. Root is not the band aid, it's the scalpel Try fixing that car without wrenches. The problem with recovery is that it is protected. You could flash a new stock one as part of an official firmware, but if you are stock 4.3 you are going to run into bootloader issues (nevermind the fact that Samsung hasn't released one. This leaves your other fix as replacing your recovery and requires access to the root system files.
++On another note, I just found this and don't want to delete everything I just typed. See this thread here and see if it pertains to you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2520115
Either you or someone else have already installed a custom recovery. Without root access recovery will fail, the android will fall and you will see red. Use this to root and fix your phone...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963790
Good point on having no wrenches to fix the car --- I will head your advise, and move forward with getting it rooted.

You nailed it on the head - I'll be sure to also hit the Thanks tab for chainfire also since he deserves credit also.
CF Auto Root did the trick and the poor little green android no longer falls over.
Moderators can mark this thread as resolved & Thanks again for all your help.
Hi I was wondering if anyone here can help me in a very very annoying situation I got myself in. So pretty much I flashed a Lolipop ROM on my phone and it worked but i really didn't like that the camera didn't work, so I restored back to a backup I made of my original firmware. Everything seemed to be working but I was constantly getting Google Play crashes spammed at me each second... so I tried to wipe the device. At this point I didn't care about losing data I just wanted to have stock firmware and fresh device. It it nothing I ended up bricking my phone so now when I power it on it says, "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again. I'm a noob at this stuff and so for the last two days i've been searching for 'stock firmware' or 'stock ROMS' for Sprint Galaxy S III SPH-L710 I've downloaded these .tar.md5 files and tried flashing them with Odin but it always fails! It's so frustrating and I'm pretty sure it's an easy fix its just I'm so dumb to see it and I also can't use my phone :/... PLEASE HELP EVEN SUGGESTIONS ARE FINE......
Thanks

Can you get into download mode? Turn off the phone. Then press power + Volume Down + Home. If so, go to this site: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/confirm/41671/L710VPUDNJ2_L710SPRDNJ2_SPR/
Download the file, unzip, and then flash with ODIN. Make sure your phone is plugged into the computer and recognized in ODIN before flashing. The new version of ODIN, I think you load it in the PA slot and PDA in the old one. Make sure you are downloading hte file over a good connection and not a phone data.

Do you have the T variant of the phone? Look under the back cover and make sure that whatever you flash is specifically for your model number.
