Random gyroscopic failure in my GN - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

My GN which is rooted (only so I could remove takjuxw and put takju on it) and on 4.1.1 has this strange problem with the gyro.
After using a phone for a day or so, the gyro stops working. This manifests itself as the phone not autorotating when put into landscope mode, apps quick respond to shaking stop working and a game that rely on the phone being tilted side to side to move a character not responding.
The problem is always fixed by a reboot. But, and this is the puzzling aspect, the problem can also be corrected by doing the following.
- put the phone into standby mode
- orient the phone in landscape
- unlock the phone (I only use the slide lock) by moving the lock icon up to the top edge of the screen, holding it for a second or so and then releasing. The screen will freeze momentarily and then unlock to a landscape orientation. From then the auto rotation will work for a while.
From that it's hard to know if the problem is hardware or software but it occured with ICS, JB 4.1 and then JB 4.1.1 and on the first JB installation I did a complete wipe and installation.
Anybody seen this behaviour before and provide some ideas of what the problem could be?
Thanks

Could be an app causing it to get stuck in a certain mode, does it still do it with a clean install? (No 3rd party apps installed)

Minor annoyances with keyboard, wifi and rotation

Hi all,
I'm having a few intermittent problems with my phone but before I start asking to have it swapped out, thought I'd check to see if they are just with my phone or if others have the same and if the latter, whether there are any workarounds. All are occasional but have happened enough times that it wasn't just a one-off glitch:
1 - using the physical keyboard when writing a text if I hold delete to get it to delete a sentence rather than pressing it repeatedly it deletes for a bit, then stops updating the display. You can keep pressing delete and it will delete characters, you can even move the cursor and delete characters from elsewhere but you need to close the keyboard and rotate the display before it updates the screen. While writing that it occurred to me I can't remember if other keypresses show up, whether holding any button pressed causes this, or whether it happens in apps other than the SMS app. Will try those later.
2 - wifi sometimes turns itself off for no reason. Not just not connecting or forgetting the password (although it occasionally does both of those too) but just disabling itself. I can pick the phone up to do something and notice no wireless icon and if I go into the communications part of settings, wireless is disabled and I need to reenable it for it to start working.
3 - the rotation sensor sometimes stops working and no screen rotations work. Sometimes restarting the phone doesn't help (but on that occasion shaking it and tapping it seemed to!) I once solved it by recalibrating the sensor (it froze a few days ago while I was using Teeter to demo the motion sensor to a friend) but it's not happened since then for me to try that again.
There are other niggles too, but those are things that I've already seen mention of - these three are things that I've not seen any other reference to but might be too minor or intermittent to be noted. Anyone else seen the same issues on another handset or is it just mine?
Cheers,
Steve.

[Q] Touch Screen goes nuts after root/bloatware removal?

I recently rooted my phone and removed some bloatware (all backed up btw) mainly the ones on the safe list in the thread posted about it here. I don't know if that is what is causing the following problem, but just to preface that if so.
I noticed it yesterday when I was trying to type something using swype, when I finished letting go the screen started to randomly tap and drag letters without me even touching it. I stopped had to turn the screen off/on to get it to stop. I also notice that if I hold the phone vertically and move it around a bit it starts to drag the home screens back and forth. Also when I am at the phone menu it's hard to tap the exact number I want. If I tap 5 say, it will randomly either tap 5 or 8. It's liek it's not calibrated.
So I go to the display to calibrate it and it kind of sort of alleviates some of the other issues, but I still have inaccurate touces. Is it a program I removed perhaps from htc that is necessary for the screen. Do I need to update the firmware on the rooted one?

Long press not working anymore on some parts of the screen

Hi,
The title speaks for itself.
Big issue here, long-press on the screen of my D855 doesn't work anymore.
Touchscreen is fine but long-presses just acts like a normal press.
I can't tell when exactly this bug started but it's really annoying since some actions can't be done without it (can't move icons, play specific games, etc...)
The lower end of the screen works fine tho (navigation buttons and apps dock) but everything above don't.
Some rare times it works with no particular reason.
Can someone help me with this ?
Is it hardware or software related ? (updating firmware to V21a didn't solved my issue).
Bu chance u aint got a glass protector on do you
No glass protector.
Stock Rom.
This is a really weird bug because it works 1 time after a "pinch to zoom" for exemple and then again it stops working
Off top of my head try if ure rooted xposed like g3tweakbox or gravity box one of 2 change long press behavior or or goto acseability and change touch feed back time to short
I have the same problem, whenever I scroll down/up, it goes directly at the bottom/top. Sometimes, it goes back to normal, I don't even know why but frequently it goes back to the problem. I had already gone to Accessibility, ..., set it to slow and it seems not to work. What to do? :/

Home button continues pressing?

I've had this issue before on my LG Power (Straight Talk branded LG Leon), running on Lollipop 5.0. No matter what I look for I can't find anyone who's experienced similar issues.
It just happened last night on my 5-day old Nexus. I could not open any of my folders to access apps. As soon as a touched a folder, it briefly showed the animation to open it, and it immediately closed. Whenever I selected a widget or the app drawer, they would immediately close as well. When I attempted to swipe down the notification/quick settings shade, they immediately closed themselves. Turning off the screen resulted in the screen immediately turning back on, albeit locked. I was even having trouble turning the device off because the 'Power Off' menu would disappear right after it popped up. Eventually I was able to time it right and was able to power off. Since I restarted I have not have any issues.
Any idea what gives? I'm unrooted, locked bootloader, everything 100% stock, running MM 6.0.1.
the only explanations i can come up with are:
-accidental touching the area in some way (unlikely)
-getting some substance stuck on the screen in that area (unlikely)
-a faulty touch panel (unlikely and very specific defect)
-a hickup in the software (again unlikely)
then again, if the OS (for whatever reason) thinks the home button is pressed, on default it should not only pull you back to the homescreen, but continue and send you right through to google. the conclusion of which would be, that this UI area is triggered repeatedly rather than continuously.
keep an eye out for what could have triggered it in case it occurs again.
check your settings what build exactly you are running (settings -> about phone -> build number).
ans lastly, if it happens again, you should still be able to hold your power button to hard-reboot it (no further interaction with the UI required).

Try to clean your screen also with a towel
That is extremely weird. It really sounds like a faulty digitizer, but you'd be the first... Maybe it's a rogue app, but unlikely.
Were you doing something before this starts to happen?
I haven't noticed any consistent apps or behaviors when this would occur. This most recent time, I was low on battery (10%) and I had just flipped on my data.
fyi. you could also just press and hold the power button, for 10 secs, for a reboot ( might come in handy when the screen isn't working properly).

appreciate the tip! I'll keep this in mind if it happens again.
Finally was able to capture a video. The issue occurred after I was playing around with Open Camera and it crashed. Holding down the power button didn't work when this glitch is happening.

What's the icon on the lock screen, top right in the status bar? That behavior is unusual if it's not a screen defect. Are you using any apps that monitor battery, a task killer, or maybe a security monitor app?

The icon is a picture for my user profile on the phone.
I don't use anything like that. I had Clean Master installed briefly but it's been uninstalled for a couple of days now.
so it seems like this issue pops up whenever the camera crashes. happens occasionally when using the camera shortcut (double power tap) or in an app that uses the camera.
It's got to be software IMO. It didn't happen when you went to Google Now and your Recent Apps. I'd try uninstalling the Open Camera app first. Do you have Face Unlock active by chance? After that I'd FDR...

right, that's what's confusing me. i did a factory reset last week, set up the phone as a new device. haven't installed a new camera app, just the stock google camera. the issue occurred again last night when using an app called Shopkick, which accesses the camera but crashed.

Pull down menu is no longer working while in portrait

Hello has anyone experienced this?
Since last night (1/10/18) I have lost the ability to pull down the top menu using the screen.
I can still bring it up if I use the swiping function of the fingerprint reader though.
If i use the phone in landscape I am however able to pull down the top menu.
I tried rebooting several times, I also tried disabling/enabling the swipe gesture function, nothing helped so far.
Note: I do not use any launcher app.
Any idea as to what could cause that?
Just to update anyone stumbling on this post, the phone actually got worse...
The issue evolved into having the entire area of the touchscreen acting up.
Touch and swipes don't get recognized, and on the top of that the screen is tapping and swiping by itself.
Makes it really hard to use. I tried a factory reset but the issues remain.
The touchscreen digitizer probably failed...
Oh well I started an RMA with Google, should get a new phone with 5 days.
Cheers
