So there's no way of doing this? Theres a way for the international one. I can't be the only person with MacBook and sgs3.

Virtual machine. Aka virtual box session.
Hi!
I did it this way with my SGH-I747[m] with Telus Mobility in Canada and it worked fine!
It doesn't trip the counter either.

Thanks both of you! Ok so I'm running Windows 8 on virtual box do what way did you root now? Is there just one way like the iPhone jail break our is there many?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Use the root no trip method. Just flash an image via Odin then install a recovery. It's a sticky in the development section.

Well my method is from the Terminal in OS X so no need to any VMs, but you can use Odin also. Just depends if you want to use Mac or PC.
How do you root using terminal? Any links? Thanks

Like I said earlier, here's the link for rooting using Terminal and MAKE SURE you have adb installed, really the android-sdk with all platform tools.

You might be able to do it with Mobil Odin but it's always risky downloading big tar files or roms on your phone.
I'd just wait to get to a PC so its done right and safely. I know how it feels man, running rooted stock, its like wanting to get laid but no females are at the party.

Don't u need root permission to use mobile Odin?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
Yup, mobile odin can inject root and install the ROM, assuming you already have root. If you don't you need one of the traditional methods.

Here's a suggestion: forget the toolkit and do whatever it is you want to do yourself. There are guides everywhere. And you will learn something in the process.

Werd. Those toolkits are largely a very bad idea IMO. It's lowering the bar of entry in to advanced things that shouldn't be lowered. When something goes wrong instead of knowing the proper way to use the android debugging tools, people only know how to click on buttons and get stuck.
There is a reason Google didn't make a gui to do these things... hacking one in is in bad taste IMO.
Once you root manually once you'll realize how few steps there really are. I've been using the toolkit ever since because its quick. Basically all you need to do is just unlock the bootloader. Put the ROM you want on the phone. Flash clockwork through fastboot and then flash the rom from clockwork (or twrp). You don't really have to go to the trouble of rooting the stock ROM if that's what your endgoal is. Its a few pointless extra steps if your just going to flash over it anyways.
I don't know where to start, I saw a video on how to root with US SGSIII root file but the file is not available, where can I download it and if anyone has used a Mac and can give me some tips I would really appreciate it. I also, checked the wiki and did search but couldn't find anything.
Your going to have a hard time rooting with a mac, no Odin support. Just try a windows computer. There not to hard to find
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks a lot, I'll try Bootcamp and see how it goes. Basically I should start with Odin right?

Yes. I believe there us an sgs3 toolkit in developer's section that can root it too. I have not used this method so I can't tell you how well it works

So wait - is there no other way at the moment to root a GS3 on a Mac? I usually don't mind experimenting with terminal, but damn that seems involved/risky.

to be honest, the easiest way is to just borrow a pc for the initial rooting using odin. afterwards, you can just use adb on your mac to copy files to and from your phone.
Just install a 30 day trial of Fusion or Parallels, load up Windows and you're on your way.
Just download everything you need onto a flash drive walk into a best buy Walmart or target and do it there. Takes 5 minutes

Have you seen a video with the 4.1.0 version of Mskip's toolkit?
I've seen the 2.0.0 version installed/rooted via Youtube, but I've read some concerning posts about people getting stuck with the 4.1.0 version of the toolkit.
Nope haven't heard any problems with his toolkits. I've been using them since he started making them. They are safe. You have to remember that 99 percent of the people don't even know or need to have root access number one and number 2 they can't comprehend computer systems anyways. When I was in engineering school for computers 90 percent of all problems were caused by the end user. Devices don't break their serves.

You can download 14 day free try from Parallel. To partition your HD.Then install windows
From experience, Vmware will give complications and always fail if trying to root
Or you can just find a windows os from someone/somewhere

Works perfectly in parallels. That's how I do it.
Note that you MUST use windows 7 or xp though. Win8 has bad drivers for usb under parallels and won't work with odin. Win 7 works perfectly though.
