Where to replace Screen? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello, I'm trying to find somewhere that can replace my Nexus's screen at a reasonable price.
The screen is not broken, just has a few scratches...I hate scratches.
So if someone could kindly point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hate to tell you but your best options are to get a screen protector that does a decent job of covering up the scratches, or sell it as is and get another one with no scratches. The screen assembly for these phones is 150-200 and dont know of anyone that just replaces the digitizer at a reasonable price. (since it is almost impossible to separate the lcd from the digitizer) You should be able to get a fair amount for your Nexus even with a few scratches so if I were you , I would sell it and get another one but your call. Good luck!

what about this?

I really don't know the quality or if it's original or not, but it's cheap and may worth a try.

Thank you for the reply, I thought that'd be the case but just needed a second opinion.
I've seen Nexus on craigslist for $150 with no scratches.
I'll try to sell my old one on ebay for $120 or something.

Ya, but the digitizer is really hard to remove from the screen itself. I checked with all the local repair shops, they all say the same thing.
...But thanks for checking

Are you sure you are looking at the Galaxy Nexus and not the Nexus S's or the Nexus' ones? I know this phone has depreciated quite a bit recently but 120 is awfully cheap for this phone. On Craigslist in Toronto here they are going for 350-400.

Ya, they're Verizon Galaxy Nexus, you can find many phones pretty cheap here in Texas Craigslist if they're more than a year old.
ebay is another story though.

I have to replace my screen as well on my Galaxy Nexus (See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474979), so I was wondering if you could give me a recap on GoUnlock.com:
Did the replacement part work? Was shipping time acceptable? Were they shady?

I'm also looking for reference about GoUnlock.com because I need to replace my digitizer. Anyone can say anything good or bad about them?
Btw Zathman, just in case, make sure you really want to change the full "LCD + Digitizer" package, which afaik is usually expensive. Maybe only the "touchscreen glass (digitizer)" is damaged, while the "displaying device (LCD)" that is behind could still be working fine (that is my case). LCD+Digitizer ~ $250, Digitizer only is ~$50.
found this online

They had samsung replace it.
Only 163, and they do all the work, plus shipping.
Sounds pretty good.

Well, I guess it depends. For the RAZR some online shops seems to have sold it in the past, although now they are all out of stock (maybe there are a lot of RAZR screen broken... don't know).
Try searching for "digitizer" and the phone model on ebay, and google...
Aren't the glass and digitizer glued together in the nexus? If so, you have to get both. Only phones where they're separate can you swap digitizer separately.
bow chicka wow wow.

Yes they are fused together in this phone, you can't get them separately. But hey on the plus side, no screen dust leakage!
Has anyone found a decent guide on replacing this screen? I've been looking all morning and found a few teardowns but nothing concrete. I have a cracked screen on my nexus and have a whole nother nexus i'm going to use as a replacement...
Thanks.

Glass for our beloved Nexus

Woe has striked me and my Nexus' front glass is shattered. Does anyone know where I can purchase a new one? Maybe an upgraded one?
Unfortunately there is no "glass" replacement ... only "screen" replacement (amoled + glass which is not so cheap) - about $300 USD.
Dammit. Thank you for the reply. It's cheaper to buy a new phone then..
You may want to keep the phone for a while. Is not uncommon for people to destroy other parts of the phone while keeping the screen intact (like water damage or burned motherboard/storage). you may find broken phones sold as spare parts, in which case you may find a good screen at a reasonable price.
Anyway ... I'm sorry about your loss, to say so. The geek in me is crying for you .

Contact Samsung, though it won't be covered under warranty, they will apparently replace the screen for around $160 USD (according to a few posts on reddit).
Wouldn't hurt to chuck them an email and get a quote anyway

Cracked my screen, what are my options?

Hoping to hear from people who have dealt with this before. Cracked my screen pretty badly but luckily (relatively...) it still works as far as i know. I don't have insurance and while I'm gonna deal with it for now I'd eventually like to get it replaced, fixed, or upgrade to a new phone. What are ballpark figures for cost considering my contract isn't up for another year and a half and i don't have insurance? What would you do if you were in my situation?

Slightly off topic, but how'd you manage to do it? I know our screens are Gorilla Glass and that mine has been through some pretty crazy drops already...
Are you the guy who called me this morning about the Galaxy S2 Screen? or is this just a coincidence in my world?

Ultimately i can't blame anything but my own carelessness. Long story short i accidentally crushed it between some heavy metal hinges on a forklift...the gorilla glass didn't stand a chance.

my advice: get it fixed

Sprint will not repair the screen, so that's not an option. Replacing the phone would be around $250 cheapest for a used device, $550 for a retail price device. Sending it in to a 3rd party repair company would cost you the $150 for the screen plus hourly labor, making it closer to $200. Factor in shipping cost and you may as well buy a phone.
Replacing the screen is easy. Undo the 6 philips head screws in the back housing, work a thin plastic wedge around the rim and pop the housing off. Undo the two screws on the board, unclip the ribbon cables, reverse the process onto the new screen. Takes about 15 minutes if you haven't done it before.

If you do find just the glass they don't seal right then they look worse than a cracked screen.
Why not just add insurance and get it fixed that way

Sprint won't allow that. If that were the case everybody would be doing that.
If I were you I would buy dude's screen who is posted above this post and after that I would go on YouTube to see if I could find a video on how to assemble or replace the Epic touch's screen. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
If I helped you out in any way please thank me. Thanks.
If the Insurance was added the best you could do is process and insurance claim and get a refurbished phone for $100.
Changing out the screen is pretty simple. Just make sure you watch the camera connection at the top and the one at the bottom of the board. Every DIYer seems to miss those two.
It's very unfortunate that our assemblies cost so much, when the iphone assembly is like 40 bucks and to get it installed will run about 90 if you don't do it yourself. Our phone seriously needs cheaper replacement parts.

That would be awesome! Just PM'ed you
You can search on Craigslist and eBay for phones with bad esn. And simply make one working out of two.
You can ask on forums for people who bricked their phones beyond returning point and sprint refuses to help them.
But of the guy above gives you a good deal. Take it.

Have you actually had Sprint tell you no? Have you actually gone into a corporate store and asked?
I ask because they replaced my cracked screen on my HTC EVO 4G a few months back, no questions asked, totally free.

Yes, I went in the day it happened and asked if they could replace it or what my options were. Other than buying a new phone for retail price, they said they couldn't do anything and didn't even do the repairs themselves. They just referred me to World of Wireless (I called them and they were charging $250 for the 'custom order' repair they'd have to do).
Buy a new one off Amazon for $8.00 and install it yourself. It take about a half hour and save a bunch of money

Yeah I cracked mine a few months back.
Tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890708 to change the glass and ended up accidentally tearing off the digitizer and basically cooking it.
Sent it to Samsung, $180 and 8 days later they sent it back good as new. New glass, digitizer, screen AND bezel (had a slight crack in it). Definitely the route I'd recommend going.

That's pretty good deal when you must replace digitizer. All I see on ebay (at least fro Verizon phones) is $200 minimum. Here you will not only get this thing professionally replaced, but also not have to do it yourself, and end up paying less!!!
I wish I was aware of this option before I went about ordering digitizers on ebay, and to add insult to injury ended up ordering a wrong one
Get one with he home button on it. That means you will get one with the bezel which means much easier install. Just unscrew and replace. Ones without bezel are pretty tedious as you need your old bezel.

I'll be calling samsung tonight to get a quote but for my and future screen breaker's info please answer this:
On ebay you can see pics of the back of the assembly showing i535 or i710 or i9300
is there actually a difference in these? some sellers say that a i9300 lcd will only fit the i9300 not the i535 or i710
is this true or are they all misinformed? i'm sure samsung will say there's a difference but has anyone actually replaced their assembly with a different model?
UPDATE** when i talked to samsung i learned the answer to my question!
the LCD is the same across all platforms, glass too.
the frame however varies. i also read about someone using a different frame than what their carrier used, he had to mickey mouse the whole thing, said he couldnt use his home button, and to use the lock/ power button he had to roll up tape and shove it in... all in all the whole thing was rattley and far from factory.

[Q] Broken White GSM Nexus value

Hey all, So my white nexus has a cracked glass. I know to replace it would cost me about $150 since It's recommend to replace the whole kit. How much do you think i can sell this phone on ebay? There are a lot of factors that can apply when selling damaged items. For example, if any of the internals are salvageable or if the device is able to boot. Anyway, from my research on sold items on ebay the normal (grey) Galaxy Nexus - "sold for parts" can be as little as $30 and as high as $130. In your case most buyers would want the body to be in perfect condition so that they can do a body swap with their grey colored ones or a screen swap. Considering the fact that ones that work are selling for $275-$399 I believe you could get to $150 if you tried. Just my opinion though. I cannot say for a fact you will get that much. It all depends if the market is there. You can always set a reserve on ebay so if bidders don't bid up to or past the reserve then the item doesn't sell. Just an idea. Good luck!
