Any way to check charging rate in software? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I have a bunch of different chargers and such that I want to confirm whether they are charging at the full 1A charging rate. I'm aware that the data lines must be shorted but I want to confirm that the charge is actually charging at the full rate. Is there anyway to check this via software, preferably with an unrooted S3? Testing seems to be not only tedious but inaccurate because of all the variable and non-linear rate lithium ion batteries charge. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Battery drain analyzer.

Try Battery Monitor Widget, Nova Battery Tester or System Monitor.
Dont know if they'll be good for what you want to do, but its the closest thing I can think of.

[Q] Is there an app that allows you to measure rate of charge of the battery?

Hello,
Just wondering if there is an application I can use to measure the rate of charge?
I know my car charger is rubbish and really slow at charging but I want to know exactly how much charge trickles in so I can see if switching to a power inverter is a better idea.
Thanks in advance!

There sure is. Can't remember what it's called though.
Its a widget that shows you the rate of charge when plugged in and rate of discharge when on battery.
Have you tried the charger mod? I highly recommend it.
OS Monitor and Current Widget.

Thanks guys! I've downloaded the program and the widget and both are very helpful.
Will post up results if I find anything interesting!
The widget is really slow to react (for example, taking more than 30 seconds to register that the power has been taken out) so I'm not convinced of its accuracy. If there are any other programs/widgets then I will use both to take an average which may be more reliable.
If anyone knows of any other programs or widgets, let me know please thanks!

I believe Fast Charge as to be cooked in the kernel.

Yeah i know the devs do very well about implimenting fast charge into there kernels but what this app does is tell u if you getting wakelocks fast charge from the charger ive noticed that this phone takes much longer to charge then normal even on the stock 2100 mAh battery(i could be wrong on the 2100) but this app will help me eliminate wakelock charger issues that causes battery to take longer to charge
i hope this makes sense and im not going Nutz

That would depend on what you think is ''much longer''? Fast Charge only works when plugged on something else than the wall outlet. It basically disables the UMS to do so.
Yup, other dude is right you shouldnt need it for a wall outlet. Only off a computer. Try trickster mod. Works perfect for me.
I'll try the trickster mod and see how that goes ... Thanks for the tip. Bwolf 6hrs plus for charging on a stock and even this 4000mAh battery is long I can see 3-4 hr maybe 5hr it just abnormally longer even when plugged to the outlet but thanks guys for the help and further knowledge
The type and length of USB cable used will have a significant impact on how long it takes to charge your phone.

[Q] Battery life is so bad, it won't charge while in use

I am running BlueLightning-20140410-jflte as my ROM, with the 3.4.82-ChronicKermel-KK4.4-AOSP-JFLTE-v3.1 kernel.
I have my governor set to ondemand, with my low clock speed set to 189MHz and the highest at 918MHz.
With the sound set to one click past off, with Wifi, Mobile Data and GPS turned off, with the screen on the dimmest settings, my battery STILL drains when I have the phone plugged in, if I am actively using an app or playing a game.
I did not find a Fast Charge option on this ROM, and I had to uninstall Xposed Framework, because it was preventing several of my apps and games from running.
I can't think of a reason that the battery would still be draining this quickly, using the settings that I described.
Is there something I am doing wrong, or something I missed along the way somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Try a different kernel

Bad cable could be the issue.. Try swapping cables

To what are you plugged while charging? If you are plugged to a wall-outlet, make sure you are using the Samsung wall adapter (or at least one that can push 1.9A). I've found out that it isn't usually the cable that causes slow charging, but the wall adapter.
Also, download an app from the Play Store called Charging Current Lite to see what your charging rate is. While 1900mA (1.9A) is optimal, anything above 600-700mA should be enough to charge while in use. Much lower than that, you will only maintain what charge level you have or slowly drain power.

It's usually the wall adapter, but it is not the one that came with my phone. I got mine off of Craigslist, and it didn't come with a charger. I've been using the same one I used on my old LG Optimus L9. I never considered that.
Figured that plugging it directly into my computer via USB would give a weaker charge, but never thought it could be the wall charger, itself.
I'll run those tests and report back. Thanks!
try a different battery or charging port if you can

Charging via USB will put you in the range of around 480mA. Even with fast charge on, it's somewhere around 600-700mA.

Phone Drains faster than Charge

Hi XDA Forum!
I've got a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium that drains faster (or at the same rate) than it charges playing games such as Pokémon GO but also oddly using applications such as Snapchat. Obviously this is inconvenient as I'd like to be able to charge my phone via a portable charger and use it at the same time but the phones battery percentage either stays the same or goes down slowly while plugged in (whether its a wall charger or not). When checking the charging current with AIDA64 and Ampere, I get jumping readings but it usually stays around a charge rate of 300mA with the occasional jump up. Any reason for this ? Currently using build 32.2.A.0. 224 (Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow).
Realised that the Jump from 17% to 18% took way too long and looked at the readings for the charging current. Please see attached while I'm still sane Help on this is really needed!
Edit 1: Bear in mind the charger I'm using for this is rated for 1500mA and when using USB ports rated for 2400mA, the same issues occurs and with different cables (definitely seems like a phone issue rather than equipment used-issue)
Edit 2: Also bear in mind that my brightness is on lowest, WiFi is turned off, GPS is on Battery Saving and all other apps are closed via the recent apps drawer.
Send help pls!
Another Imagine depicting how bad this issue actually is. I can't use my phone at all while it is charging or else it just doesn't charge at all. The image shows that from ~10:00AM until now (4:00PM) it has gone up by roughly 4%.

Stop being so impatient, we all have lives here... Next, stop using your fone while it is charging and let us know how that goes. Next use a different wall outlet and charger and cable and see whether things improve. There are quite a number of factors at play here. Lastly, factory reset if all else fails...

When charging without using the phone, it charges slowly but surely. It is when the device is in use that it drains faster than it is able to charge (which is inconvenient seeing as I need to use it while Charging for a Pokemon GO event). I have tried multiple cables and multiple outlets and have just performed a factory reset yesterday (via Sony's Xperia Companion) which I'm not so sure has fixed the issue as I'm still getting the low current readings. If the issue persists I'll just get a Samsung Galaxy S7 next month since I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have this issue and I'll most likely have to send my current Sony Xperia Z5 Premium to Sony for repairs.
One more thing, the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium's battery is rated at 3.8V and 3430mAh but looking in AIDA64 the voltage shows as 4.106V. Normally as a somewhat tech savvy person, I would be extremely worried quite a bit if voltages were this off. Any help?

Charging to save battery life

is using fast charging will degrade the battery faster?
i want to keep the phone for more than 2 years, thinking to charge it at lower rate (using older samsung charger). is it safe? since I just saw the note explode (using different charger i guess)....
I guess it's a trade off and a bit of risk that every one of us has to take between preserving the battery health and using the fast charging feature quite frequently. Fast charging is one of the stellar features that we look for and need day in and out. However it's frequent use can lead to overwhelming the Lithium ion flow and resulting in corrosion.
According to me it's an optimal use of fast charging that does the job. If you need to keep the phone for more than 2 years, you definitely need to watch the amount of times you use fast charging. It's an amazing feature and should be used sensibly to maintain battery's health.
