Install windows versions on epic? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to flash any windows version on the epic 4g and still be able to switch back to whatever android version of ones desire?

i highly doubt it.

Not sure if you mean Windows phone or the desktop windows, but either way, no. Windows phone does not support the Hummingbird processor, and desktop Windows does not support ARM (well at least the ones before Windows 8, which isn't out yet).

Wp7 on android?

Has any one put wp7 on any android phones such as samsung galaxy s's was wondering cuz wp7 seems reAlly clean compared to android and ios

Theres an app called Windows Phone Android that makes a bad attempt at ripping off the UI. Sadly its unlikely that that would ever happen as WP7 has different hardware requirements and you'd pretty much have to reinvent the bootloader

The only thing I'm aware of custom WP7 running on is the HTC HD2. But it likely won't be long before a great many other phones have it. Sadly, it requires authentication and a key from MS, which will likely be useless after any update.
The good thing, though, is, MS rarely updates WP7 devices. LOL
Well that figures lol thanks anyways guys

It's unlikely to happen because Galaxy S is on Hummingbird Platform while all current WP7 devices runs on Qualcom platform.
More likely an android port to WP7 phone can be done, though I doubt the necessity

Windows 8 on US Galaxy S3?

Alright, with Windows 8 around the corner, was wondering if anyone is working on Win8 arm port for our Galaxy s3's (and im not talking about the international version cause that one got exynos which will never be compatible with windows environment due to lack of drivers and low ram) but our Galaxy S3 runs on same chipset (S4 Plus) that win8 tablets will be running so maybe somone's is planning on port?!
Nope.

Anything (almost) is possible. But I highly doubt it. Android on the MS Surface (ARM flavor) is more likely.

A future Samsung wp8 phone may be based on the GS3 hardware. That could get wp8 rolling at least.
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy SIII (SGH-i747)
Won't happen. Android is open source so rom makers can make their roms as they want however windows phone 8 is not. If somebody released a rom if even possible Microsoft would come down on them like a tornado and rightly so.

he's talking about Windows 8 not WinPhone 8
i had the exact same question.
It's possible to have Windows 8 on the s3 I guess, but it's not open source?
Not sure if Microsoft would approve

That's the best thing they could do. The SGS3 outsold the iPhone 4s in the US, they could ride that success train easily.

Dual boot could be nice, like I did with my old I phone 3G when I installed android and iOS in dual boot with bootlace

I don't recall the GS3 being ARM-based to actually support Windows 8 RT.....
Any Microsoft WinCrap software is NOT open source .. so for anyone trying to port that over to our phones would be illegal .. and if someone trys to port Windows 8 RT onto an SGS3 .. it definately WOULD NOT be on XDA.

What mobile processor is not Arm based? Razr I's.
I can't think of a single reason you'd want Windows 8 on your phone anyway.
Besides, getting it to run on any ARM based mobile is about a lot more than just having an ARM based processor.

wow... for someone raging as hard as you are on Microsoft, you should at least check your spelling.
why hate so much? i have 2 surface rt tablets and there is no other mobile OS that can do what i do on them. even though i'll be honest android is better for porn.
Now on op's question windows 8 rt is not going to be possible.

Windows 8

I have a gnex and I like it, a lot. These windows phones coming out look pretty cool and their just now catching up with some hardware specs us android users are used to. What do you guys think of these windows phones? Im curious to know the app development for the OS. Thats the only thing keeping me away. Your thoughts?
So you like locked down garbage that will never actually be updated?
Good for you.

Have a look at windowsphone.interopabilitybridges.com
Many articles point out as more users move to the Windows Phone platform, app devs will move over as well.

Definitely shows promise, but I'm locked into Android for the time being.
Just pulled out my HD2, which has WP7.5 on it (giving to my bro for a loaner), and it is a slick interface. Zune may have flopped, but it is just nice to use.
But, I'm Google-locked for now.

Not even remotely interesting. User interface is atrocious.
Beautiful phones softwate and hardware wise. Run extremely smooth especially the lumia 920. I like android for the freedom but if i had to choose a business phone it would be a windows phone 8 device. Apps are still far behind as their new. If you dont play games tho then they have apps for everything productivity wise.

Lumia 920 looks pretty nice. I have an upcoming hardware upgrade and since I'm buying the Nexus 4 outright, I'll upgrade to the Lumia to give it a try. I hope that Microsoft won't pull another Windows Phone 7 not upgradable to Win8 thing.

I have always thought the same way. It looks very nice as a business phone especially that Windows OS is mostly used in offices at organizations so it should pair and integrate better with Windows Phone I guess, however, they seem either more expensive or same price to high-cost Android phones, so this makes it harder to pick a WIndows Phone if I can get a similar specifications running Android which will also fit well as a business phone
Maybe Windows will go back to the top once again? :sarcasm:

Windows no doubt will continue to rule in in the workspace with windows 8 on tablets. So most people will need one. When it come s to the mobile phone market apple and Google should dominate for awhile.

I don't know how you didn't understand my post I clearly said windows 8 pro on my Pc, but I agree win 8 on a smartphone or tablet would be complete garbage compared to android, its a no brainer win8 mobile clearly sucks but so did android before ICS an jellybean came along, I absolutely despised gingerbread an anything before it compared with iOS back then.
Fyi All windows 8 operating systems can be considered mobile now. Just depends on what hardware its on. Tablets with keyboard attachments are going to be huge in 2013.

No they aren't. Just because companies will make them doesn't mean they will be huge. Adding a keyboard attachment defeats the entire point of a tablet and I think the market will respond accordingly.
I think Windows 8 phones might start to catch on in enterprises but for the mainstream users they will probably stick with Apple or Android. How well the phones integrate to the Office suite of products will drive the success or failure of the Windows 8 OS in my opinion.
I hear "windows" i think "virus" .... no thanks.

That's the thing with the Note (I or II) - they are UNIQUE and every other ecosystem will be jealous until they get their own "Big Daddy" of phones

Buy the HTC HD2 and get a dual Windows/Android boot.
Also the the Exynos chip details being released, the chances of a sd card dual boot could be a reality. The type that might allow WP/Android dual boots.
get an hd2. we even got f'king meego working on it lol.
yeah HD2...my last phone before the Note 2...
No way. All windows phones use snapdragon processors. Someone would have to do some serious hacking to get it working with exynos

Has everyone seen the Samsung ATVIA? Which is similar to the Galaxy S 3.
the Nokia Lumia 920 is a gorgeous phone. If I were a big fan of Windows like the OP I would be all over that. I'd love to see Windows perform well in the smartphone market. More competition the better.
While we cannot get Windows Phone 8 on this device, we can make your phone look like Windows Phone 8. Check out Launcher 7 or Windows Phone 8 launcher. I think there is one for Windows 8 also.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I used my Note 1 with Launcher 7 almost exclusively. But it's oudated now - no small tiles, which would be great on the big screen. I'm waiting.
The Windows 8 mentioned above, if it's the same one I've tried, it's an ad fest (you get notification for ads even with adfree installed, terrible, disgusting app.

Using Samsung software on a Macbook Pro

I am considering getting the Note 2, but have never owned a Samsung phone before. I have a Macbook pro as my only computer and just wanted to know if their Samsung software works on a Mac and whether I can flash ROMs using my Mac instead of a Windows PC? I currently have an LG phone and this has been an issue
