Now that the quad core processor variant is coming to the us and not just limited to the international market?
It's tempting but I won't know until I see the next nexus. Considering what some carriers do to their devices, I prefer nexus.

Any eta's on the new nexus? or specs it may have?
If the specs on that I-9260 leak is correct and that is actually the new Nexus, I will be getting a Note 2. I will actually be getting a Note 2 either way with my upgrade to sell and fund my new Nexus. That is of course after I sell my G-nex to fund my upgrade!
All upcoming phone discussion should go in this sticky: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642801

The i9260 isn't the next Nexus, it's an upcoming TouchWiz phone from Samsung called the "Galaxy Premier" (at least right now).
I dont think I can use another brand other than a nexus. This phone is just great and updates are in a timely fashion that if I was with a Samsung phone with touchwiz the updates wouldnt be happening till 5 months or so after it was released.

I really hope its not, it'll basically be like how Apple went from iPhone 4 to 4s
This will end up being a galaxy nexus s or plus or whatever you wanna call it
I rather have Google wait 1 more year to release an awesome device than a revamped galaxy nexus
Just my 2 cents

I'm getting it.
Thinking about it. 32gb note 2 or a 32/64gb gs3. Need to flip an iPhone 5 first and if I get the note 2 flip a galaxy tab 2 also.
need more high def music...
I want to try out the Lumina 920, hopefully Sprint will get it. If I don't like it I'll probably go for the Note 2 as my winter phone

Since your obviously an XDA user you shouldn't have a problem getting the latest OS on your phone, whatever phone it is
The next Nexus will be revealed January -February.
Now to answer the op question...yes it is tempting...very tempting.
That thing will be BEAST running CM11 LoL
I am going to get one. I was carrying a nexus 7 for 3 weeks and realized I don't need 2 of basically the same product just different sizes. The galaxy note 2 will be a perfect mid point especially since I use my device more of a mobile Internet device/tablet than a phone.

I'm tempted, now that I've gotten used to it, the Gnex screen does not feel so big and all I do with my phone is internet stuff anyway, hardly any actual phone use.

I have Nexus S and software speaking GNex and NS are almost the same, ignoring the few advantages GNex has because of the hardware.
My sister got Galaxy S3 few days ago and now I want a new phone as well lol. Since I'm gonna dump a $***load of money, and I much more prefer Nexus dev phone rather than TouchWiz or anything manufacturer related, should I wait for the next quad core (and better camera, since that 2 things are bugging me about GNex) or buy this one.
I know how having a Nexus rocks, all the roms, tweaks, ports available for my Nexus S are just awesome, so I can imagine what to expect for this one or the future one!

Because I can, and I was bored.

I guess that's the cool thing about a Nexus phone, even when the next one comes out, this one will still be relevant.
It's not like the jump from dual core to quad will be as significant IMO as single to dual.
Such as the GNex can and will leave the N1 and Nexus S in the dust in the following years, the next Nexus will take much longer to leave the GNex in the dust.
Clearly under par GPU on nexus ...wait for the next one and hope its better! Then buy it
Note that the price of the new Nexus could be twice as much compared to the current price of Galaxy Nexus.
But if money is not a problem, buy this, then buy the next Nexus when it comes out
Just wait it out. As good as the GN is, it's not that big of a jump from your current phone.

Funny cause I just got an S3 for my wife about an hour ago. I haven't really played with it that much beside installing some of her apps. Me personally, I wouldn't be able to switch. There are some really neat features and the 2 gigs of ram is very nice but for me the nexus with jelly bean is still the better device.

Completely agree with this. Ive had an iPhone 4 for a year and before that an HTC Evo 4G. I grew tired of the iPhone so I decided to take a chance with this Nexus. I've got to honestly say as long as this device stays in working condition for the next few yrs, I won't buy another phone until they stop sending OTA updates to this phone. Which might not be for a loong time considering I bought this straight from Google.
Sent from the Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
totally worth it. do it.
Why you downgrade to an SGS 3?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Overall the S3 is underwhelming. AOKP running on both devices, the Nexus perform just the same. The S3 is faster in some tasks like installing apps and gaming, but for the most part its not a noticeable difference. And the Nexus have more up to date software and roms. I like the feel of the Nexus more, the S3 feel very flimsy.
I'm in a dilemma about which device I should sell, I can store more stuff with the S3 and take nicer photos, but for almost anything else I prefer the Nexus.
I do know for a fact that the T-Mobile of version of S3 will probably get Jelly Bean as its last official update, while the Nexus will get plenty more updates from Google in the future.
Also S3 factory firmware is unusable for me, very bloated and slow, I guess once you're spoiled by stock Android everything else feel slow.
Yes, then sell the gs3, buy a new nexus, and pocket the difference.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Why didn't I thought of that?
Yes! Sell it for $450-500, then buy the Play Store GNex for $350. Pocket the difference

Pocketing the difference feels great.
traded my iPhone 4 32GB + $100 for a 4S back in January off craigslist. The dude couldn't wait for jailbreak any longer and valued a bit more cash.
Flipped my iPhone 4S (that I got an AT&T sanctioned unlock for as soon as they started doing that) three days after playing with my GNex for $550.
Pocketed $170. Almost enough to cover iPhone "5" since I'm eligible for an upgrade. Might do that and flip it for Nexus 2 when the time comes.
Either way, in a great spot and happier than I could imagine with my Jelly device

Galaxy nexus hands down.
if you wanna get the phone NOW go with the gnex..if you can wait get the nexus 4 when its released
I'd rather you wait for the Nexus 4, if you have no qualms about LG. Otherwise, go with the Galaxy Nexus
Buying a gnex now when a new phone is going to be announced on Monday. Lol.
Wait until Monday. See the price of and the launch date of the lg. See if the price drops on the gnex... Then decide.

I would recommend buying it off contract (if you can afford it) because being free to choose your carrier is great. You can switch at any time if a better deal comes up and you can even take advantage of prepaid wireless. T-Mobile has a good prepaid plan IIRC.

I don't like too big screens for a phone, so I would go for an SGS4, kinda ironic isn't it ?
Iam also due for an upgrade around september, by then, many phones will be released....
If my GNex suddenly died on me, I'd pop my sim in my XPlay. Why?
I hate 5" phones, so that takes care of the S4 and the Xperia Z line (a shame cause I love the Z otherwise). The Note line is even worse for that. The HTC One is a beautiful phone with some great features and a good size..but you know it's locked down like area 51 because it's an HTC. Nexus 4 is tempting, but LCD screen, 720p screen(what with all the 1080 now), and it's LGness steer me away.
So in short, no new bleeding edge phone right now is tempting. Hopefully the X phone, or Nexus 5 or whatever doesn't go all 5 inch on us, and get's a 1080p SAMOLED (4.7" ideally)
My upgrade is also in September and a bunch of new phones will be out by then, but at the moment the only phone I would upgrade to would be the GS4.

I'm leaning towards the DROID dna..
I was actually able to upgrade back in February. There's no phone out right now that I really want to shell out the money for. The Xperia Z looks very nice, but no radios for 4G service here in the US as far as I know. As long as my GNex hangs in there, I'll probably wait at least a few more months before I consider upgrading. Possibly even until the big releases over the holiday season.

No they didn't. An insecure bootloader was leaked.
Note II, there was an exploit to flash an insecure bootloader as well.

if my verizon Gnex died today, i would probably ditch verizon and jump over to a nexus 4. the specs are good enough where i wont have phone envy any time soon. the size is just about right as i think the 5" phones are a little too big for me.
and there is just SOMETHING about stock android that i just love.
today? Nexus 4, specs are awesome for me and the price is just great!
Im planning on staying with Verizon, and I want to upgrade right now lol.
Went to the store today and played with the DNA and S3 and both were amazing. DNA is 200 and S3 is 100 bucks..
I love the way to DNA looks and feels, and i like sense. But currently there isnt any root for it, i don't think.
The S3 has a better camera, dual core, but its not even close to the benchmark scores to the DNA
DNA's benchmark was over 8k, S3 was at 3.k and my nexus, 1.7k.

I bought my galaxy nexus a year ago, and I used the stock rom for a long time.
I always tought it was a good idea to be the firt to get google updates....
Since 2013 I started to flash custom roms on my device (i tried a lot of them), and I liked much more than the stock rom.
Whats the point of having a nexus phone, if im already using custom roms?
I wont get update by google anyway.
I want to buy a new phone, and prefer samsung quality over LG, so I was thinking to buy a galaxy S3 (here in Brazil is cheaper too).
there is any reason not to buy GS3 over N4? (using custom rom)
a friend of mine told me that custom roms run much better on nexus devices because they are open source and have less bugs.
is it true?

plus, with those custom roms, since you have a nexus it will be the first or among the first to get the newest updates to android or hell at least the most stable before any of the OEM versions or the ports that follow or lead up to them. Basically, nexus=first dibs to new stuff (from google anyway, as long as the device supports it)

This. Have you ever unlocked a Motorola device? It is nerve wrecking. Look it up on YouTube. You almost have to do a ritual dance with incense to do it correctly without bricking your device.

Something else to consider is updates to the proprietary files and other fun stuff that isn't open sourced. Nexus devices have these things update pretty regularly, and with the new OS build. Others...well of course they lag a bit behind the Nexus line, and as such may not see an update for a month or more in most cases.
S3 becuz u can just port some s4 stuff over to it. Which is the newest stuff.

i prefer my GNex over and Galaxy S3S/4 any day. i work on Galaxy S's almost every day and while unlocking/rooting/flashing them is literally a < 5 minute process they just feel too large and clunky to play with. big screen is ok, hardware is good, but my GNex just feels more responsive and clean and having support for all of the latest Android updates first in line is a bonus. Nexus 4 is ok too but it reminds me of holding an iPhone too much and i don't like the feel of the device. just an opinion
