How to make a nice AOSP rom? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi
I'd like to buils my own rom based on AOSP , with only toggles from CM , and Volume wake.
I know there are some nice tutorials about how to buils from the AOSP sources , but I have no ides where I have to find those "cherry picks" , neither how I should "add" them to the build....
If anyone could give me an advice on how to do that , that would be really appreciated

something like this, this was put together (still not complete though, lately I've been thinking more and more about finishing it, or maybe rewriting it again) for cm7, but most of it if not all applies to aosp and cm (basically any other that uses git, repo sync);
then you have this as well, and google.
there should a few more posts on this.

Build from source

Hi guys and girls,
I want to experiment with building ROMs just for educational means. BUT, I have no experience in developing whatsoever . For instance I want to build a rom from Lord Clockan's source but where do I start? Can someone help setting things up from scratch/point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!
The only ROMs built from source are CM and AOKP, everything else is just modified stock (which you can't build).
With that in mind, read this: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Galaxy_Nexus_(GSM):_Compile_CyanogenMod_9_(Linux)
Wrong phone, but it's step by step.

So how could I use their work for building a ROM?
Well if it's a CM based ROM, you would need to get the CM source, then use local_manifest to bring in others repos when you sync.

[Q] Difference between XenonHD/Purity and CM10.1

Hi!
I would like to know to biggest differences between those roms.
And, also, is XenonHD and Purity are based on CM10.1? (so it could have the same stability and all the features that CM10.1 have)
-
What I'm looking for, a CM10.1 based rom (stable) that have a few more features (like navigation bar and status bar transparency and navigation bar dpi changer). It's not really easy to figure out which rom is the best (for me ). I tried ParanoidAndroid but there's just too much differences, I always found bugs that got me reverted back to CM10.1.

Thank you for reading! (and if you can help me )
Have a nice day,
Daniel.
Everyone else learned by reading change logs and flashing ROMs. I recommend you do the same

Thanks for the reply.
I know about the change logs, but I didn't found one for CM10.1 (like a huge change log for the new stable release).
Where do you think I could find one?
http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm10&device=maguro
Or you can learn how to read github if you want the complete official changes in CM or any rom

Thank you for the link.
Yep, I should!

[Q] When will we get AOKP?

Its been awhile since ive seen a device without aokp support. Will we have it and doesnt anyone know when
isn't AOKP still based off CM? Usually you start seeing all the original AOSP type ROM's come out after CM has been released.

Actually, they compile from source now! They do, however, use the CM device trees to fix things with their builds for some devices. Just a little fun fact and to answer the e.t.a question, we really don't know! Whenever a maintainer get their hands on one or someone steps up to maintain the device with them.

Beginner help please - CyanogenMod 13 and questions

Hi there, I'm new to these threads and recently put cyanogenmod 12.1 on my nexus 7. I was surprised how clean and well optimized it ran so I was going to put cyanogenmod 13 on my HTC One M9.
So I was curious if there was anyone on these forums that had the time to answer some beginner questions.
1: I have carrier locked HTC One M9 from Australia, can I unlock and install Cyanogenmod 13?
2: How can I backup my original Rom?
3: Any recommendations?
Thank you in advance
Go into recovery and twrp has a backup button. Save it to your micro SD card
1. You will need to get S-OFF to be able to flash MM 3.xxx.xxx firmware to be able to run CM 13.
2. You need to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3066720
3. Read and read

Since I had a similar question to what's been posted here. I'm going to ask in this thread. I've been looking for non-sense(no pun intended) roms, for my phone and found that CM looks like something I'd like. However, all I've found are nightly builds. Is it a good idea to wait until there are some stable builds or are those nightly builds good enough? Been looking for non-sense roms all over, but it seems all the top ones are derived from sense, I'm just interested in getting as far away from stock as I possibly can.
Candy rom and CM are the only builds I've used on M9....
Candy is CM based and runs far better than stock CM nightly builds...
CM will get there...but for now I'm avoiding it...
Also...candy rom will run on 2.x firmware....and CM13 will not....g

Newbie here, just did my first root + got a custom rom (CM13) [if you're thinking of getting it now, please don't. I'm doing you a favor.]
However, releasing what nightly's are, im now wondering how stable is this 'Candy rom' you speak of?

Small question, if you will. Does CandySix bring all the features that CM does? By this I mean, root, the UI customizations such as menu colors, themes, and UI tweaks. I'm using ViperOne right now, and although I like its UI themes and colors a lot, I don't like Sense that much. I know this isn't all that related to the thread but I don't want to open up a new thread just to ask about this stuff.

Give it a try...I think you'll like it...g
I will try it then, thanks for the help.

HAZY ROM

so i just finished speaking with a dev from hazy rom. they are willing to make a new version of hazy rom, version m- n i believe if we can find someone to maintain it. i am unable to as i wouldnt know where to begin but i have copied the link incase anyone would like to speak with him about this rom.
https://plus.google.com/u/0/communi...3/stream/c6b645aa-520a-4076-83ab-1d07fd7da6dc
I remember using hazy rom on android 5 for this phone. New version would be great.
I think it would be hard to find someone who can maintain this as most of the old developers have new devices now and the others are busy supporting their roms. But let's see if someone comes forward
--
well one of the old devs is just waiting for me to reach out to him about a maintainer then they will build the rom for us since they are already on 6.0 with their other devices so yes i hope someone can step up to the task at hand. unless everyone likes using only 3 main roms. rr nameless and cyanogen ( other roms like du and omni or crdroid are nice but i like customization )

Clearly you never use DU and CrDroid. CM is just a base rom. You are right about Omni because they didn't aim for customization.
