Yet another ics mms post - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running 'mimicry v1.5.0 and it has been the best rom I have run on any device. The one issue I have, and it seems to be a common one for ics, is mms just doesn't like me. I have went through the apn settings and have tried everyone I can find for tmobile but no luck. Now for the point of the post... can someone tell me what roms running gb have mms abilities? Another ics rom would be great but something tells me that it won't happen and unfortunately I have to use mms for work.
Thanks for the help
Sent from my G2 running Mimicry 1.5.0

I've always found that I can't retrieve MMS' on any signal apart from plain old GPRS.
If i have Wifi, Edge, 3G or 3.5 I can't download them, it just times out.

I can't seem to send or receive no matter what band is in use. Which rom are you using?

I was using Elitemod, but am intalling Mimicry as we speak. I'll test an MMS later today and let you know.
This was also the case for me on Virtuous roms too. And the stock ROM if i remember rightly.
I am using o2 in the UK, this might be just be a network setting rather than ROM setting though.

Thanks for giving it a shot. Let me know what you find. Most of what I have read says its an apn setting but I have tried all the ones I can find for tmobile.

I just had this problem and restoring the stock messaging app fixed it...still looking for a permanent solution...

I still have the same set up. Won't retrieve on anything other than G still on Mimicry.

Thanks for the info. As far as I am aware I am on the stock mms app I think. And now to find a way to force my phone to use gprs.......

Does anyone actually know why some people have the mms "bug" in ics roms when others don't even when the apn numbers are the same ones from a gb rom? Possibly carrier specific?
Sent from my G2 running a random rom.

I have the same bug on blackout 3.0 and made a lot apn settings but there it still won't send mms. Need a solution.

Is Blackout an ics rom or a gb rom? As far as I have read it is something that effects all ics roms but not gb roms for certain people.

I am having all of these issues and more...very frustrating... Im on the nightly flinny jb build and need to post on there but running the noob ladder.

I have mimicry 1.5 and i use GO SMS Pro.. it works fine for me.

Yeah I tried gosms and no love there. Seems like there is a lot of factors that effect it. I moved back to a gb based rom and keep trying as I see new things for ics and try them but still no love for me.
Sent from my G2 running the random rom of the day.

I may have found something that effects the mms issue. Decided to goof around and flash a mess of roms tonight and see what they were like. I have the .15 radio and all the gb roms work perfect for mms. ICS and JB no luck. After doing a mess of reading I have a feeling it could have to do with the radio version installed possibly. Is anyone having the problems with mms on a .19 radio?

I'm running. 19 radio with edkeys rils and have never had any mms issues.

That's what I was thinking. I get the radio thing but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the edkeys thing.

Alrighty bro let me help.
First download the .19 radio with RC data from this link https://www.dropbox.com/s/0qsobli3v07qbxw/VISION_RADIO_RCDATA_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19.zip
Rename file to PC10IMG.zip
Put file into root of SD card
Reboot into bootloader and it should see the file. Use volume up to press yes
After its done you should be on the new radio. Make sure to remove the Zip from your sd card now.
now to flash the RILs download Edkey's RILs from here https://www.dropbox.com/s/5m94hm0fv..._26.13.04.19radio_ril_gps_so_updater_v3.1.zip
Reboot to Recovery. Make a backup.
Flash the previously download zip.
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache. And also wipe EFS partition with this http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17578272/vision_wipe_efs-signed.zip
Reboot and you should be set.
Keep in mind that if you already have the radio with the RC data you can also flash the RILs during the setup process for Mimicry.
Let Me know if you have any questions.

Will there be a MIUI 1.3.25 MetroPCS build??

I've recently switched to MIUI 1.3.25 GB build, and love it. Best ROM in my opinion. But MMS doesn't work for whatever reason (mind you my EVO is on MetroPCS). Before it was working fine on the Sense Rom, but the Sense Rom is garbage compared to MIUI GB.
Anyways so I found this MIUI 1.29 MetroPCS Edition build by "Bloody". I installed it and MMS works fine, but I honestly would like to keep the latest MIUI build. So does anyone know if there will be a MIUI 1.3.25 MetroPCS build?
EDIT: I got a reply from bloody, I guess apparently you should be able to install his mms script he built to a working MIUI Rom and it should work. (which I tried but didn't work, so I'm guessing I did something wrong. But I'll keep messing with it til I figure it out). Will keep this thread up-to-date so if anyone else has the same problem.
Ok so I tried this agian and made some progress. I restored my bkup of MIUI 1.3.25 GB Rom, I guess if you wanted you can just do a fresh install.
Second, flash "MetroPCS_Web_MMS_Evo_AOSP_v4.zip" file. Now once you reboot after flashing, you'll notice that the MMS app is gone and probably wondering what the heck happened. Well the new MMS app is installed but you just don't see it.
Deleted the previous MMS app which at this point should look like a missing app cause the os can't find it. Using Root Explorer (you can use any other app that can do the same thing) I went to system/app/mms.apk and intalled it. Its gona ask if you want to overwrite the current mms app, just hit ok. Now reboot and you should now see the MMS app appear back on the screen. Click on it, and you'll notice its not as nice as the original MMS app that comes with MIUI 1.3.25.
This is as far as I've gotten I tried sending my self a pic msg but never received it. So I'm redoing the entire process to see if it works then.
Ok here it is, I have everything working. Remember this is for EVO's on MetroPCS, if you're still on sprint, they you should be fine with just flashing the latest MIUI on your phone.
This only works if your phone is already provisioned and already on MetroPCS.
1. Install latest MIUI using their steps that they've provided
2. Once your phone is booted, mount the SDcard and copy the MetroPCS Evo AOSP MMS & Web Script v4 to the root of the SDcard.
3. Flash the zip file, you should see it deleting and installing some files.
4. Once you've rebooted, you'll notice the original MMS app gone. Just reboot your phone again.
5. When booted up for the final time, the MMS app should appear again. When you click on it, you'll notice its a different app from the original. The original is cool but, this one still works great.
Also you'll notice at the top where it usually would say SprintPCS, now it says MetroPCS.
This is for EVO's with MIUI on MetroPCS that do not have mms working. This should fix it. Hope this helps.

[Q] ota update messed up phone

Ok the other day I did a *228 update and ever since then my 3g won't connect. It barely will stay connected with 1x. I had the synergy ROM at the time. I changed to nils business gingerbread since and it still didn't work. I also flashed my radio and still nothing. Any help plz
Sounds like you'll need to reflash a stock rom. This is a pretty common issue and there are a lot of threads on the subject, it's why you don't *228 on sprint based roms. Flash the stock rom, then the rom of your choice.

Hes right check the synergy rls1 thread for posts by me i had the same issue and there is good info there on how to get 3g back. Also i gave up on synergy because of this problem. Even aftet going back to stock and factory resetting and fixing it as soon as you reinstall synergy and reboot a couple times 3g breaks again, even if you dont do a *228. However i will say doing a *228 is what started the issue in the first place. Something is messed up with synergys epst.

I think you can flash the Gingerbread leak and it will fix 3G issues also.

Can you flash a ROM on a rooted cricket Evo?

I'm experienced when it comes to rooting/flashing roms... I'm on sprint tho but I just got my girl a Evo fully flashed to cricket, the phone is rooted but the guy at cricket said if I start flashing tons on it, it could screw up the cricket flash. Is this true?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
ok well i flashed synergy rls1 on her phone and it went fine except she cant send or recieve pictures anymore... So i thought i'd flash energy on it cuz thats what im running and the second she signs into google and facebook it sends her phone into bootloops. So i guess cricket evo's are hit or miss..... I would love some advice cuz her phone should technically be identical to mine but it's like a complete mystery to me. Anyone with a "fully" flashed to cricket evo any input here would be greatly appreciated.
You have to use epst in the dialer to get mms working I believe

ok now i really need help! It was working fine until i flashed energy rom. Now i can't restore back to synergy it ust keeps bootlooping... I am knowledgeable I have experience with rooting many phones and i have an evo on sprint but I got this phone for my gf as a christmas present and she's on cricket. I bought it fully flashed running some 2.2 rom but i thought she'd prefer synergy so i flashed it. It's not bricked cuz i can still get into recovery just fine. I have no experience with phones flashed to cricket and I know ebough that i screwed up her phone. PLEASE someone that knows what I'm going through help me. :-(
just wipe, flash whatever rom you want to run on it, and to restore MMS do as mentioned already and use EPST to edit the MMS server information. All roms for the EVO pretty much assume you're on Sprint not another carrier.
I would try that but the phone just keeps randomly rebooting. Some roms even send it right into a bootloop. Could it just be the phone and have nothing to do with cricket? Even so if I can get it to stay on for over a minute she gets calls and texts perfectly fine so I don't see how it could be a hardware problem either...
are you doing full wipes including the dalvik cache?
maybe you should try the full wipe flash from caulkin(?). I've never needed it but it sounds like you aren't wiping your device enough.
also what recovery are you using? I think some roms don't play nice with Clockwork if you're using that.

I have been using an EVO on cricket for several months now and have flashed just about every Rom available. I would suggest using armon recovery and team nocturnal wipe zip. For your mms the easiest thing to do is use go sms. You can enter your cricket settings in it. As far as losing my flashed settings that has happen once, but I flashed again using info from the jimminy cricket thread. Also just a heads up Sprint based roms won't give you voicemail notifications.

I've been using amon ra recovery and have been doing full wipes every time before I flash a rom. I haven't tried flashing a superwipe tho I'll try that right now.
Ok so flashed superwipe and delete&format then like 5 times each then did factory data reset and flashed synergy and first boot was fine setup was fine, made calls/texts fine then 10 min in while simply setting up my home screens it started rebooting maybe 8 times before it finally stayed on just long enough for me to power it off without having to pull the battery. Still haven't figured out what's wrong with this thing.
I think I've narrowed it down to mobile data... if i keep 3g/mobile data turned off it stops rebooting. Does anyone know why that is?
If you have decent pc knowledge I would suggest reflashing. Although if you are unsure of what you are to do after reading all the info then dont do it!

if you're using some newer roms (GB) have you updated the radios at all? Maybe that's the issue?

wifi issues with cm10 based roms

whenever I load a cm10 based rom my wifi drops after 2 minutes. stock based wifi is consistent but as soon as I load cm10, jelly ro, or even the new experimental m1 build with always drops. to reconnect I have to turn off and on wifi. is there any solution? I was reading about cm10 modems and I didn't install anything besides cm10, aosp jelly camera and jelly gapps. any help will be greatly appreciated!
ps just realized I install the camera on every build could that mess it up lol
I've been running several nightlies over the last few weeks and now I'm solid with the M1 build and at this point I have never experienced an issue with wifi dropping.
What steps did you take to flash CM10? (cache clearing? Full wipe? Permissions?)

I did everything except permissions. Are there permissions for wifi?
No I was just mentioning the common steps so you would tell us everything. Sounds like you've installed the rom correctly but obviously their's an issue. I'm assuming that this issue is right after a clean install and not after you've installed juice defender or something like that? Assuming you're installing the correct version of CM10 for your phone (d2att?) their shouldn't be anything else needed to make wifi work (ie modem file).
If I were you I'd be tempted to redownload CM10 m1 and jellybean Google apps. Ensure you have the recommended version of cwm installed. Clear caches, full wipe, flash CM10 and apps followed by clearing of the caches again. Forget the camera initially and test the wifi. If it still doesn't work we'd need to start looking at logs.

Hey, I was hoping someone else would chime in about the logs. I have used "alogcat" for logs before but I'm not familiar with wifi filters so I'm probably not the best person to help at this point.
Anyone?
Ian
Running the new cm10 15th build wifi is more stable but still drops after about 10 minutes. Any help would be very kind.
With all your flashing and even using latest versions I'd start to wonder if something to do with the rom is not compatible with you're rougher. Have a you tested it on an alternate wifi source? Maybe a neighbors open signal or something. It's a noob thought but it couldn't hurt.

Yes I have. Currently on a different network right now and it was still dropping. Less frequently but still happening.

No responses yet but it would become a good place to follow as that's where the CM brains are. If I can make some sense offer this log business ill get back to you without some more ideas.

Same problem here with wifi on Galaxy Note n7000. It started since I moved from CM9 to CM10.. Now trying every new Nightly, but with no success. Still losing wifi spot every 1min - 10minutes.
Thought if I download something, then wifi is stable, but soon after download is finished, wifi connection is dropped.
Working for me ...

I have a Rogers S3, and am currently running CM10 NIGHTLY 20120924. Everything appears to be working well, including Wifi; however, there is the occasional (and I mean quite rare) glitch where Wifi does seem to have a bit of difficulty connecting. Again, this is extremely rare on my device, and it may simply be something unrelated to the ROM.
Peter
YES!! This has occurred for me on the stock ATT TW rom and then same thing happened on EVERY OTHER ROM I tried after that including AOKP, LiquidRom, Aristodemos....
It's annoying and I don't know what to do.
The wifi will connect and stay blue for 5 seconds then turn grey for 10 more sec and then wifi will completely disconnect and wont reconnect unless i turn wifi off and then on again. im at a complete LOSS.
anyone have any ideas?
Exchange it. Don't put it off just use titanium backup and switch your phone.
I am having issues with WiFi on CM10 also. I can use the internet like always but the signal bars will go gray sometimes then back to blue. While they are gray I can browse, usually with chrome, but youtube will not work. It is odd that some apps won't work but some will. It may be dropping and coming back but is not strong enough to stream video.
I am using CM10 10/9/12 nightly and an N600 Netgear router. I am starting to think the Netgear router might be my culprit. I have always had dropout issues with them in the past, although, my computers, 360, and PS3 have no issues. Maybe I could just make it a signal repeater and get a Linksys again.
Has anyone else had this issue, think it is the Netgear? Should I try a new router firmware like dd wrt?

[Q] Fixing the Data Counter Issue

I'm looking to get some information on my what can be done to fix the Data Usage counter on my wife's i927R (Rogers) running the stock GB os. Currently any data counter application that is put on doesn't actually keep track of 3G/4G data correctly.
I have been reading up on just upgrading it to ICS but I recently read all about the phone call issues after it goes to sleep so I'll be holding off on that upgrade to that gets worked out.
I did notice that there were some GB Kernels (like ardatdat's) that say they fix the issue but they also do a bunch of other things like overclock which i'm not interested in.
Is there a way to just patch the existing stock kernal to correct the data counter issue? If so can you point me in the right direction of the files and steps to update?
Any help would be great.
Thanks
If you want a count of your data, message, and phone calls and are on att, dial *3282# into the phone and press call. It is very accurate and gives you the data in the form of a text message. Not sure if this is what you want, but this is what I do.
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
The standard stock kernel can't be given that feature, you have to recompile it from source and then hope you get a working version. We are a small group compared to the other phones as our model is not quite as epic as the original as the original captivate galaxy s is still a great phone and being an attention whore still lol..
But we are All trying to do our best to get more mods out there.
I personally use ICS 4.0.4 stock (custom modded to my needs)
And run lite kernel 1.1.1 you may want to try an update to your ROM from gingerbread to ICS and I beleive at&t launched an official update with samsung, maybe try it and see if it helpa
Thanks for the replies but i'm not on AT&T but rather Rogers in Canada.
Also, I would update to ICS but from the other ongoing threads there is an issue with the phone not receiving calls\sms on those roms once it goes to sleep mode so i want to avoid that until it is fixed.
From the sounds of it the only solution is to flash a new kernel (such as ardatdat's) thats specifically says it fixes the issue. Perhaps I can figure out how to change overclock settings so that it runs stock speeds.
To flash a Kernel do I just use Odin like a Rom flash? Are there any How To's on Kernel flashing? I haven't found one around here for the glide.
Thanks
The AOSP ROMs default to stock clocks, why haven't you upgraded yet?

I come from rogers too.. the ICS update will work fine for you and overclock doesn't affect anything. I was using literom with lite kernel 1.1.1 before upgrading to cm10.. then pacman 18.2 and now on liquid smooth
You should at least upgrade to Ics.. phone runs faster and smoother and GPS is fixed in literom too.
What version of GB are you using ? I upgraded to the latest GB first when I got my glide and I don't recall data stats not working
The current os is 2.3.5 (Kernel 2.6.36.3), The latest one available for the phone through Kies. All the data usage counting apps do not work on this phone. They all report about 1/1000th of the actual usage. Wifi data reports correctly but thats not what's important.
roothorick: I searched for "AOSP Rom" and what i found was an alpha build with a bunch of known issues. As this is my wife's phone, this wouldn't go over well. Keeping the phone looking and functioning the same as much as possible is key.
yohan4ws: I was planning on upgrade to ICS but now i'm reading the threads about the issues with the phone not receiving calls or sms once it goes to sleep. That is unacceptable as it is the main purpose of having a phone. So you aren't experiencing any "no radio wake" issues with your setup?
