I'm wondering if the failed install is because I'm rooted...

New OTA for AT&T Galaxy S III
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Ok the update did not work until I flashed back to stock using Odin...
I get untrusted zip in CWM... should I continue with the update?
You can not install a stock update to a rooted device. This can only be done if stock (AT&T) unrooted, is flashed back on to the phone
I'm thinking it has to do with custom recovery, not root.
Already a thread on this.
Let's search before posting or at least look a few threads away
Don't want 10 threads on "new update"
Thanks

I just installed the juggernaut rom by Team Kang on my T989 yesterday. I woke up this morning and found a prompt on my phone for a new update from t-mobile.
I thought I would take a look at it and went with the whole update and all it did was taking me to the recovery screen.
I rebooted and the update notice is still there. What's this about?
You should pull the file and give us the link. That would be helpful!

I'm not really an expert so if you would be kind enough to tell me which file you're talking about.

It's the new Tmobile update to Android 2.3.6. Its the new update with Wifi calling and Gtalk w/ video installed.
The thing is, I restored my phone to stock and didn't get the prompt, but get it if i go back to juggernaut

I'll look up how to pull an update. It's been a while since I last had to do this. Bear with me... It will be just a few minutes. I don't wanna use ODIN for the update if at all possible.

The strange thing is everyone on that ROM seem to be getting the notification. I'm stock and have tried both Kies and manually checking like a madman with no notification whatsoever.
I still have the notification and all it does is send me to the recovery screen.
this worked for me
unroot phone, use kies to update firmware to 2.3.6
There is no 2.3.7 update it was 2.3.6 must be a rom error
I install the Juggernaut 3.7 on my phone on Dec 24 and after reboot I was keep getting same message again and again for the T mobile update what I did is went to the system app and removed the asynchrony.apk and I stop getting that updates message. If I have helped you? Please don't forget to pressThank you button

Is unrooting my phone going to affect the rom at all?

You will need root explorer or ES file manger go to system and in system click on app and in asp you will that file in the bottom and remove and reboot and enjoy.
I tried es explorer and could not find the file. I'm beginning to think i'm going to unroot and then do the process all over again

Hey guys. First time rooter here. I am currently running my first ROM (Cm10 nightly) and loving it.
I was about to try the updater from the settings menu, but I wanted to know.... Do I need to back up anything first, or does it just update like a stock OTA would? Thanks in advance for any help!

It'll update like ota. You won't lose anything. One reboot later & you're back in business.

Ah, nice!
I just tried it, but got the error "Can't mount" once it booted to recovery to install. Anyone familiar with that issue? I'd search but the search function on XDA is currently down .
Hey guys, first time Android user here.
I got my phone on release day...a few weeks later I decided to root it. Went very smoothly with no issues, then I accepted an update and lost the root so now when I try to root again I always end up with all kinds of stop errors. Anyone have any thoughts on why that might be? Ive tried restoring my phone to factory settings and rooting but it makes no difference, always blows up with error after error.
Saying you reset to factory settings, did you ODIN back to stock?

No sir, just used the reset tool built into the phone....are you saying I need to find the stock firmware and load it through ODIN first?
I would strongly suggest using the ODIN method back to to stock, and then start your rooting process again
Odin to stock, rooted LG1
Dl OTA root keeper from market, using it to back up root
Let the ota update do its thing
Restore root with root keeper

Is this the name of the correct file that will work? root69_ATT_I747UCALG1.tar
Ive used this before and its one of the ones that caused my phone to pop up with stop errors.
That is a pre-rooted firmware.you need one of the ones from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625 to go completely back to stock, just make ure you grab the one for your provider

Ok thanks for the help so far. Im downloading the file now but the next question is once I install this and the phone is fully stock which file should I use to root?
If you are AT&T THEN use the one you mentioned above, if not use the appropriate one for you,

Ok just finished step number one (flashing stock rom) and its the same outcome that ive been getting. As soon as the phone comes on this error pops up unfortunately the process android.process.acore has stopped and it just pops up every ten seconds.
Try clearing you contacts cache, under application manager.
That helped me when I got this error. Never got it again.

Yep you are correct. Just did it and fixed my issues, now rooted again and working. Thanks for the help gentlemen.
Dang.... Wish this conversation was 2 days ago. I had the same exact error after trying to get root, I had to pull battery and do factory reset from stock recovery then flash stock with root and flash the OTA to end up where I wanted to be! . Oh well we live and learn right!

I downloaded the ATT 4.1.2 update and my phone rebooted as it should, however teamWin touch is up and I have no idea where the ATT update file is located.
Anyone has an idea where the download is located? Directory?

3 options
1. unroot your device in order to update, you need stock recovery to update
2. there's a thread someone uploaded an update.zip which contains the 4.1.2 updates for those with rooted device
3. I think there's an OTA update for rooted, search it up
I think it's located in /cache, just go through the folders there.

I hit reboot then "system" in teamWin, which brings the phone back to stock i think. I'm at work without ATT service (yeah go figure) so I can't tell for sure, but I believe i'll have to re-download the update.
Will update this post later tonight.

From what I remember I experienced the same thing and just rebooted.
Just download stock rooted from loserskater in twrp, make sure you flash bootloaders and modem zip first.... Make sure you read so you don't destroy your phone

I used myself flashed 4.1.1 in Odin and then got ota rootkeeper off the play store and backed up root. Then did temp. unroot and updated to 4.1.2 and then used ota rootkeeper to restore root without any real issues. I say any real issues because after update and restoring root I opened supersu and it wanted to download binary and failed. All I had had to do was restart my device and then supersu worked fine.

I have a i9250 gsm Galaxy Nexus, maguro. JWR66V. It used to be Yajuux but I changed this to Yakju with Wug Fresh's Nexus Tool kit. I manually updated my phone to 4.3. However, about once a week, I get a notice that my phone would like to update to 4.3. The download is only 1.7mb. Once I allow the update, the phone reset, boots up and says "installing system update" with the android mascot on the screen and a swirly atom-thing at his stomach. After about a minute a message comes up that says "error!" with the android mascot now on his back. I have to remove the battery and restart my phone, otherwise it hangs. The update notice won't come back for another week, unless I stop the google service framework app and clear the data. I'm assuming these system updates are to upgrade to JWR66Y, but I don't know why I keep having these errors. Any help/advice would be appreciated.
Figured it out
Solved. I managed to sideload the update through the Nexus toolkit. Even after updating though, it didn't show the correct version. I had to unroot by uninstalling supersu (survival mode didn't work), then doing the OTA update, then reinstalling the binaries for Supersu.
Can anyone recommend a good site/feed that keeps track of these security updates/other major updates?
And the toolkit gets the credits, even when the user still has no idea what just happened.

The reason the update doesn't install is because you are using a third party recovery.img (twrp) and Android cannot update your phone with twrp, only with it's own recovery. You can download the update posted in one of the threads and install from twrp.

Does doing this wipe the phone?
Not if you only install the update. You will have to reinstall supersu after the update because you will lose root.

Update through twrp by downloading the update not through ota since you have third party software.
