Is nova launcher prime worth the money - Nexus 7 Themes and Apps

I have the regular nova launcher and I'm trying to figure out if the prime version is worth the money?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

Personally, I prefer programs that don't make you pay for cool features. Both Apex and Nova were usable for me, but Apex actually included more features in the free version then Nova, but had less on the paid version then Nova. I paid for Apex mainly to support the app

I think you are looking at this wrong..
Nova launcher is perfectly functional as it is ..Think of paying not to get the extra features.Think if it giving support for someone writing such a great working Launcher. The developer of course makes the paid or donation version to give added features .. Not really expecting it.. But to give something back for your appreciation and Paying him for his work..
So i would say YES IF you use and like it and The development is good .. Pay The developer.. I have nova prime and do NOT Care about the extra features. I use it only because it lets me turn the stupid dock off in the nexus..
on my phone i use it because its faster and less battery then the stupid stock huawei launcher..
Hope this helps you... PAY THE MAN/ WOMAN .. GIGGLES..

Yes Avery

Worth the money IMHO.

The extras are pretty much like a thank you for the donation

I bought it just because I like it. I mean, it's basically buying the dev a beer at that price.

Yes!
I actually do use the gestures from prime. Ditch the dock and one finger swipe up for app drawer.
I personally always buy apps I like, they hardly cost a lot and without support we wouldn't have such great software.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk 2

The only thing I use from Prime is gestures. Purchasing was more of a donation, so IMO yes, worth it.

I don't think it's worth the money, Apex does everything Nova does except for the gestures

Not worth the money or the install IMO. GO does more and does it better. I couldn't duplicate my GO screens with Apex or Nova. I quit trying launchers, GO has it all.

Im not a fan of the layout in Go and the tablet version of it is weak right now. Apex beta with tablet mode is the best.

I used to LOVE Go launcher, and all the Go products, some of which I still use (Go SMS Pro), but Go Launcher used to be fantastic and now it just has too many "features" and has turned into bloatware, and I usually do not use that term. They should make a Go Rom. Anyway, I settled with Nova Launcher and purchased prime for the gesture feature I was missing from Go. Some other bells and whistles in there, but overall I'm extremely pleased with Nova. Especially on the N7 since I can now rotate my home screen Buy that ish!

yes, the gestures are a great feature, and i wouldn't be able to live without them now
i have:
swipe down - bring up apps drawer
swipe up - lock screen
2 finger swipe up - calculator
2 finger swipe down - google play store
i use these gestures all the time, it's made my tablet even more convenient and awesome :good:

I've found Apex jaggier than Nova. Nova is always smooth. Try both free, see which one suits you better.

Odd, I never get any of that with GO. I just ignore the crap in the menu bar, seldom open that anyway. Can make it look as clean or cartoonish as you want with hundreds of fonts to choose from. I agree it's a hog, but doesn't seem to effect things. The main thing I like it for is grid and icon sizing, it just seems to work better. I really like the folder "drawers". Gmail and k9 notifications work well. I'm not rooted, maybe the others are better on a rooted device?

I think its worth ever penny, I like the available features and speed better than any other launcher and happily paid for prime to support the dev.

Go Launcher Ex vs ADW Launcher EX??

Which do you prefer and why?? Whats the best settings to get the best performance out of each???
Personally, I really enjoy Launcherpro. It's free. Or paid if you want to re-size widgets or use their custom widgets (I suggest not, I didn't like those widgets) You really just have to try them out on your own. Launcherpro is very fast and smooth. Many transition effects. I really enjoy this launcher over the two you post about and others I have tried, and I've tried anyone you can think of.

Yeah launcherpro is the way to go
Im currently on myn 2.2 using launcherpro , and its stable , fast, and pretty ha. But how is the ADW Launcher?
As always, I have to throw my vote in for Go Launcher. So many customizable features, I love it. One tip, don't put the transition effects on "random." That does seem to slow transitions down a bit.
I always run out of screen room, so I like being able to add as many screens as I want. Plus the additional bottom icons are sweet.
ADW launcher VS. GO launcher EX (Droid x2)
I am going to have to cast my vote for Go Launcher EX.
I have tried both ADW and Launcherpro, but found Go Launcher EX to be far more customizable, and my phone seems alot more responsive. ADW seemed to make my phone lag, or feel alittle choppy, even FC at times.
Although all three have several features you can use to "make the phone your own", I think Go Launcher EX has them beat still. There is so much stuff out there for Go Launcher, it would take weeks to go through it all. True, most of it you may not need, but it tells you that the Dev's are very active.
Go launcher EX has kept me from getting bored with my Droid X2, by continuously putting new stuff out there for me to play with, so that being said, I would have to say, try Go Launcher EX!
I'm voting for Adw launcher I love everything about it. I tried go launcher it was okay seemed kind of heavy.. And I don't like that there is no option for transparent status bar.
Sent From My Evo 4G Amped Up On Verizon Tower Power!
ADW Ex ftw
Especially for customization, but it's really stable as well. Development is pretty consistent, even though I hate that they took out the two dockbars and only use the hidden one - or what used to be the hidden one.
Go Launcher Ex, as well as all Go apps, just seem... I don't know, clunky? I don't like them. They feel bloated and I don't like the way they look, some features are borderline cheesy and impractical.
However the best bet is to try both and make your own decision. If you don't want to pay for ADW Ex right away, try the free version or try Go Launcher first. If Go Launcher seems to be what you want then stick with it. Or if you like the free version of ADW, buy the pro version.
LauncherPro to me is out of the picture. The developer's lack of communication and unwillingness to help his users is one reason, but paying to resize widgets is dumb. The widgets that come with the paid LauncherPro have similar free counterparts on the Market (err, Play Store). Try out APW - Android Pro Widgets - if you want those type of widgets.
Go launcher ex with the go Widgets and a nice theme = pimpin you can make your phone look anyway you want, I have go launcher ex, adw ex, and launcher pro.plus and I always go back to GO, adw and lpp to me look unfinished and not as smooth like aosp vs sense, I love aosp but it.just looks unrefined to me I like that rounded glossy look of sense vs the more.boxy appearance of plain aosp, kinda like a '90 Lamborghini countach vs a '12 gallardo roadster ones boxy and clunky looking in the lines and ones sleek and sexy looking, and go has always been stable for me has lots of options and themes and can be set up to run very smoothly I've used it on an intercept(low end piece if crap) an evo (mid range spec wise these days) the epic touch(higher end spec wise) and a kindle fire running cm9 and it runs beautifully on all 4

[Q] what is your favorite launcher? Why?

I'm just curious, as to what people think about these different launchers.
Me personally, have used launcher pro and go launcher. I recently used ADW, to me it just tried to copy go launcher with a different drawer and few different options. I favor go launcher the most, the options are amazing. I also like SPB shell add far a looks, but not many options.
I'm sure there are some that aren't popular, but good that I may want to try.

I do jot have extensive experience with launchers. I don't like vanilla android launcher. I had the ics from acs for a few.
I always end up going back to launcher pro. I don't use many of it's options, but I like the home screen looping and the modifiable dock. Though on sure other launchers have those features too.

And now I see they have ICS launcher now on the market. So many ROMS, so many launchers, you could spend forever trying out these combinations.
I still feel like ADW copied GO launcher or vice versa. The only difference is the dock and the drawer.

Adw was first. Wayyyy first. And privacy problems with go...go is just a no...
Haha I've been a GO guy since I first downloaded it. Like an hour after release. Used less RAM than Launcher Pro and ADW and more than Zeam. It was really cool to watch it grow and become more and more comparable to them. Then it morphed into the mainstream, RAM guzzling EX that we all know today.
Using CM7 ADW now. Less RAM, snappier, and has the same functionality.
Zeam
1. Simple and fast.
2. Can customize home screen action binding for double-tapping home screen (Phone), swipe up (Phone) and swipe down (Open Notification)
3. Custom Home screen folders
4. Scrollable dock.
Most definitely Launcher Pro because you can customize the look and the widgets are awesome.

Lots of options (7 rows/6 columns = ), docks everywhere, categories with swipe navigation, fast.
I like Launcher Pro and then Go Launcher.
The great thing about Android is you can us multiple launchers and not just one. If I want to impress my Iphone friends I go with Go Launcher. If for look I love the modified Launcher Pro with the glass scroll dock. I don't like the regular Launcher Pro but the modified Launcher Pro totally rocks.

My first rom, TrInItY, came with Anarchy Launcher which I think they pulled but I love the cube feature so I've been running that ever since. very customizable with docks and the viper wheel I makes it easy to have a lot of apps easily accessible.
When I first started flashing Roms, I got hooked on the ACS Syndicate Frozen Roms and they bakes LauncherPro in with their standard or slim versions.
I loved certain features of it like the homescreens being in continuous loop and the scrollable dock so you can have as many apps in your dock as you want. The thing that turned me off is that any apps you have saved to your SD card the icons will not show up when you first boot your phone, you have to restart launcherpro which was extremely annoying. I also started getting FC's.
I'm still on Syndicate Frozen, but now I'm using ADW Launcher as I didn't originally know the difference between ADW and ADW ex. I will now be switching to ex.

Alternative launcher?

Hi all......
I'm currently using trebuchet on CM10, and I like the basic, uncluttered, ram friendly operation......
However......
It lacks the ability to "hide" apps in the app drawer. I like the facility to be able to hide apps that I don't use much but don't want to delete (backup apps and apps that perform system tasks/tweaks). I know that some third party launchers can do this....they allow creation of folders in the drawer or can even make the app icons disappear, but some of them can be "resource hungry" which is something I don't want.
Do any of you have any recommendations as to which launcher achieves all this.....and please don't suggest "go launcher"......
Thanks in advance....

Give Apex Launcher a spin! It's a feature packed launcher and it's light enough on RAM and battery consumption. It has the ability to hide apps too. I've tried Nova Launche before and the only nice feature on the free version is that it's blazing fast. You can't hide apps on the app drawer and the app drawer folders are available on the Prime version only. Well, if you love the look of the ICS Launcher and you want a feature packed, light and free 3rd party launcher, give Apex Launcher a try!
Whew! So much for advertising!
I use Nova Launcher, personally.
Besides, Nova Free has some feature that Apex requires Pro version. Although Nova has a Prime version too.

My vote is for Nova Launcher. Not that it's *the* best, but it's the one I'm most comfortable with.
Another launcher that I liked, but others haven't mentioned, is ADW Launcher EX. It's the one I'm using on my tablet.
And, if you're a design-oriented person, you might fall in love with Lightning Launcher. It is also by far *the* lightest launcher I ever used.

Seems like I'm the only Apex Launcher lover here. ADW Launcher and the EX version of it is also very nice although it's not my cup of tea. Lightning Launcher is also very nice although you only get 1 homescreen. Other good and light launchers are Nemus Launcher and Zeam Launcher. Although the latter hasn't received updates over 2012, it's still nice and functional.

Slight correction: Lightning Launcher has no concept of "paged" home screen, but it's smoothly* scrollable (swipeable?) without bounds to all directions (up down left right), and stops at the extreme position of screen element).
*smooth here means not based on icons; one can scroll a "half-icon" width, or even for only several pixels.

Is there a festure/mod/toggle for turning off that crap that comes up when you swipe all the way left on the stock launcher? I really like tw, yes I said I like tw... But I'm used to phones with infinite scroll mods.

You can try "Weather & Clock Widget Android".
Out of fairness I just gave the Touchwiz homescreen interface another look. I honestly cannot imagine why anyone would choose that interface over the other far more full-featured, lag free and robust launchers available. I mean Touchwiz doesn't even have a scrollable app doc at the bottom of the screen. Using a quality launcher is as close as you can get to running a custom rom without being rooted. Sure its fine for users with no desire to customize and keep things very basic but come on, its weak sauce.
I dont know how but the TW weather widget works fine for me on the nova.. it dosnt work on my s4 though.

Well I've always hated TW and used launchers like NOVA and my current one, APEX on the Note 3. Now, I am liking the TW so far on the TAB S and still running it. I like the magazine screen and if there were a way to use that on one of those other launchers I'd probably switch. Only lag I've seen so far on TW is when scrolling to the left for the magazine screen.

1st you have to make sure you are running a different launcher like Nova. Then you can either freeze it with TB or Uninstall it. I Uninstaller mine to free the space up. Also removed all the magazine crap and quick briefing.
i have no lag and for the first time really like the Hancom Viewer as well as the Quick Briefing page. i 110% dont think it should be forced on us but would activate if it was.
infinite scroll would be my main request as well as possibly more rows and columns
Well now I am using Nova on the TAB S. After some persistent lag I decided to abandon TW. I tried Apex which is flawless on my Note 3 but it's very laggy on this tablet. Nova has been real smooth so far.

Nova Launcher

I've been running TW since launch day and I've been considering using Nova Launcher. Has anyone been using Nova if so is it smoother? Have you noticed a difference in battery life? Do you lose any S-Pen and Multitasking functionality? Also could you share screenshots of your setup. Please feel free to share your experience with Nova and if you'd recommend it
I'm gonna answer the following questions; no, no, and no. Nova makes the phone more customizable not smoother; ie make folders for apps on the home screen. Battery life is for the use of the phone and how you use it; ie having many apps running, eating the crap out of your battery, or simply having that dreaded battery bug. The Spen does not have an impact on a launcher. I had pulled the SlimRoms launcher and installed it on my phone and worked fine with the Spen, no issues.
For me it's a little smoother. Battery life is about the same. S-pen works fine. I believe it uses a slightly less ram. Nova is very customizable. You won't be able to use some tw stock widgets such as calender. I use apw widgets as a replacement.
Here's a screen shot. Nothing special.

its all personal preference, really. Nova is very popular and is far more customizable. The only thing that you lose (that I can think of) is the ability to 'pin' S Notes to the homescreen as well as some TW widgets

I've been using Nova since 1 week after I got my phone. It isn't smoother (from what I've noticed), but you can speed up Nova in its settings, so it may become smoother if you play with it a bit.
No difference in battery life and no changes in multitasking. You do lose the ability to pin Action Memos (as mentioned in above post), and you can't use the Spen thing where you hover your pen over a folder and it expands so you can preview what's inside. Also, the stock weather and calendar widgets don't work right (just get a third party one like 1weather).
FYI, I'm using a TouchWiz theme in my screenshot lol. So it looks like TW, but is actually Nova.
I do recommend Nova due to its customizability, and especially because you can create multiple tabs (and folders) in the app drawer. Try the free version, and if you like it, buy the Prime version. That's all I can really say.

I'm pretty good when it comes to battery just wanted to know if it made a difference but thank you.

For me it's a little smoother. Battery life is about the same. S-pen works fine. I believe it uses a slightly less ram. Nova is very customizable. You won't be able to use some tw stock widgets such as calender. I use apw widgets as a replacement.
Here's a screen shot. Nothing special.

Think I might just take it for a spin and see if I like it.

its all personal preference, really. Nova is very popular and is far more customizable. The only thing that you lose (that I can think of) is the ability to 'pin' S Notes to the homescreen as well as some TW widgets

hmm that's not too bad. I don't use s note so I doubt I'd lose much functionality

best thing about alternate launchers is that you can uninstall them and go back to TW. There really is NO reason not to try them.
