i wiped and formatted everything on my phone and i dont have an external sdcard anymore and my phone wont boot. i have cwm recovery and i can enter that but it shows in mounts and storage that everything is unmounted. I can mount them all except sdcard and sd-ext
i downloaded a RUU and tried to manually flash the system image back to the phone but it says its "FAILED <remote: not allowed>"
does anyone have a tutorial i can follow or provide me some instructions on what to do, it would be very helpful

If you dont have an sdcard, there is no way to do an ruu or flash a rom, unless you already have a rom on your emmc. You will need to get an sdcard, load a PB31IMG.zip ruu, and flash it thru hboot. Or put a rom on an sd and flash it thru recovery.
thats what i thought, any way to adb push to emmc?

So i went to flash a ROM and now it says while flashing that the flash was aborted because the system can't mount the SD card. I'm using the newest CWM and have flashed stuff before. Not sure what to do, it wont let me make backups, restore, or flash anything.

Did you use the Mounts menu to try to manually mount the sd?
Also, Which method did you use to get into CWM?

Ya i went into the menus and manually unmounted and then remounted the SD card but that didn't do anything. I used the typical three finger method to boot into CWM like i always do.
i think
I believe this has something to do with the way in which the SD card is formatted I also cannot mount in to usb storage in CWM i get an E: error
Have you guys tried to "Reboot recovery" from the "Adavnced" menu in CWM, and then try to flash the ROM?
I've had this happen before, it was a formatting problem. The easiest fix I found was to back up SD-card data on your pc, reformat the card from the Android system, then copy your data back over. CWM should be able to mount your card now.
I had a problem with the mount dropping mid flash it was my sd for some reason was chipped I always keep backup files

Just flash another version of CWM and u'r done. I faced this problem after flashing Siyah Kernel v2.3 which includes CWM 5.0, and I tried all the methods online; formatting, error-checking, etc... nothing succeed!
Finally I flashed another kernel (Which includes CWM 4.0) and it worked fine.
Thanks!
Same thing happened to me just now... found this thread.. pushed new CWM in ODIN - Worked like a charm.. Fixed in 2 minutes..
Flashing another CWM (ACS recovery this time...) via Odin did not fix the issue. Going to try the format /sdcard fix and see... argh!
*Edit* aaaand that didn't work either. WTF... I literally just got this phone 2 hours ago... brand new.
delete the .androidsecure folder on your sd that worked for me formatting wont work if you put your files on the same with me because i always copied that folder along too
Hi. So i was bored of my current rom and decided to change it. I got into recovery mode. Mounted the sd card and put the other file in. When i went to update from sdcard it said cannot mount sd card. So i did the fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 and it said finished. I tried going to install from sdcard and it says the same. My pc can access the sdcard without problems when i mount from clockwordmod recovery

So my friend reformatted his sd card to fat32 (this was so he can pub PB31IMG.zip in his sd card and flash it using hboot he is rooted but clockwork recovery doesn't work)
Anyways when the phone is plugged in to the PC, two disk drives show up "DISK G" and "DISK F", both are completely blank.
What does this mean?
It wasn't like that before he reformatted them both to fat32 file system.

Well if they were formated they should be empty. Formating means to wipe all data and rebuild the disks file structure to fat32. Are you able to drag and drop files into the folders?
Ya they can drag and drop the problem is he formatted his internal storage as well
And hboot says "cannot find image or wrong image" when trying to flash PB31IMG.zip (put both PB31IMG and PB31IMG.zip just incase)

Not sure about that but if he's trying to fix clockwork he can flash from ROM manager. Sounds like an incorrect hboot file.

Ya thats the problem, clockwork recovery is a blank screen with two white bars on the sides for him. Its some issue with the Incredible LCD screen not seeing the recovery. Thats why he was trying to flash a working recovery but cant because hboot won't read it.

What hboot version is the phone on now. As said earlier you can flash it thru rom manager. If you have an unlockable bootloader you can fastboot flash cwm recovery img. Where are you getting the files from? Try this one http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip

You can not flash cwm recovery or anything thru hboot except an officially signed ruu unless you are s-off. I would follow one of these guides to root and optionally get s-off. There is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1506258, or this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1600904, both do the same thing just wrote up a little differently.
Thanks for all your help, I'll try those guides but the links give a 404 error.
Hi guys , its me again ... well i have a big problem.I recently owned a Kindle fire ,but i gave it to my brother who went away for a while . He came back with the divice telling me that the hard drive had crashed. I thought it was not a big problem so i tried to fix it. I turned it on and saw the blue kindle fire letters (because it's rooted) and then afterwards it said boot and then the screen would just go blank. I thought it was a bit strange so i went into recovery and everything was gone so i thought that maybe he had wiped everything from the SD card , system , cashe and dalvik cache except TWRP , so i mounted the device to my computer , copied the jandycane ROM for jellybean 4.1.1 for KF and the gapps onto the kindle fire , i then unmounted and tried to flash it but it would give me an error. My brother claims he didn't make it fall or anything and he is studying medicine so he really needs it because he doesn't want to carry his laptop around. Please help me , both me and my brother are in great need.
Thanks in advance.
The kf like most tablets/phones does not have a hard drive, it uses flash drive memory like sd cards. I seriously doubt that it could have gone bad, however it could be an issue with the partitioning of the drive. What exactly are the errors you get when trying to flash a Rom?

Maybe your file transfer hiccupped. You could wipe the device and push it again then retry your flash.

I can't wipe it becuase TWRP in on my SD
Wipe system, factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache then transfer the .zip ball over and flash it again just to make sure. You won't lose folks stored on the sd as long as you don't wipe sd which you don't need to do.

You obviously have recovery installed, and I'm pretty sure it isn't installed to the sdcard partition.

TWRP is on my SD card i see it when i usb mount my sd card to my pc. Also even after wiping everything except Sd card it still wont flash the zip
Is the TWRP on your sdcard a TWRP folder or is the TWRP you are speaking of the recovery.img?
Also, what version of TWRP are you running?
Make sure zip file verification and md5 check are disabled when you flash it. If you still have issues place another rom.zip and gapps.zip on your sdcard then flash it.

Okay, that's just the backups/themes folder. TWRP is actually installed to it's own partition, separate from the sdcard. Not that it matters because your problem seems to be that you're using TWRP 2.3 rather than 2.2
Not to say that's the only problem you're having, but it's a good place to start.
Well i think i updated to TWRP 2.3 but i need to check so im not sure :\
its sticking at the TWRP screen x_x any help on this?

I only recently realised that CWM stores backups in .ext3.tar format instead of a .img format. When I search for a way to use adb for recovery, i've only found ways to use a system.img file but not an ext3.tar file. Is there any way to perform a recovery if I have a system.ext3.tar file using adb? or anything else?

Actually, on the Droid Incredible, system.img should be the format for the system partition. .ext3.tar sounds ok for /data and /cache but not /system.
After verifying the image is for the right device you could format system and untar it to /system after mounting it. Again, I don't think this will work on the incredible as CWM creates .img files for system.
Why can't you use recovery directly anyway?
I can't get into recovery so I'm trying to use it through fastboot. Didn't quite understand can I use the .ext3.tar as an .img?

No. You'd need cwm or adb. Did you already try reflashing recovery in fastboot so you could get to it?
If that doesn't work you may need to ruu.

Place it in the main sdcard folder and then reboot into HBOOT which is hold vol down while turning on the phone. and if it doesn't get picked up, check if the sdcard is formatted as FAT32.
I forgot to mention if you do an RUU update or flash stock via the PB31IMG, it will wipe your internal storage(emmc). You will lose root but not s-off.

Even though it is already fat32, it is sometimes necessary to reformat it again to get hboot to find the file. Just back it up to a pc, reformat it fat32, and then place only the PB31IMG.zip file on the sdcard and try again.
