Help needed...unrooting "Main Version is older" - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone. I need some assistance and I hope I can get some help.
I am trying to unroot my phone, I was able to flash s-on, but when I go to load pc36img, I get the following message-
"Main version is older! Update Fail!"
Do I need an older pc36img file? Or something else?
I have attached a picture of my screen showing my info.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you trying to flash a recovery image or an RUU?

[Q] Restore for Warranty claim

Hi folks,
need your help..
I am currently using the RUU of
PB99IMG_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.zip
HBOOT: 0.93.0001
and I need to revert back too....
RUU_Bravo_Froy2_UK_2.14.207.1_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_144166_signed.exe
I tried to install the O2 RUU, by extracting the Rom.zip and renaming to PB99IMG.zip, but got a "Main version is older" message.
How do I accomplish this? I would really appreciate the help...
Thanks
Using your gold card, follow this:

Then flash the o2 RUU

You should also flash the 2.15.00.11.19 radio in recovery first, then run the RUU.
I cannot get into recovery. And when I tried.ruu it stopped because it reboots the bootloader which takes me 10 tries to get into. There's a.power issue going on also. So my fix will need to ne in the form of flashing pcimgs

Stuck at White HTC Boot Screen, Can't get to Recovery

Hey,
I was trying to load up the new radios and when I did it my phone kept losing connections to 3G and everything so I tried to update hboot to the latest and now I can't get past the HTC EVO 4G White Screen. I can still access Hboot but I can't get to recovery.
I was loading the radios from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
I tried to install the PC36IMG from RA-supersonic 2.3 but its not giving me the instruction to install it. It reads the PC36IMG.zip in Hboot but I don't get an option asking do I want to install it.
I got the file from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
Is there a way for me to get to recovery? My phone won't boot past the screen, I assume if I can get back to recovery I can wipe it and use a different ROM. Thanks

Are you still showing S-OFF? When you flash your hboot you also have to flash a new kernel in order for it to boot, the recovery on the other hand should still work regardless.
Its showing Supersonice EVT2-2 Ship S-ON. Does that mean I lost root?
s-on sorry man you lost root through updating your hboot there are many ways to downgrade your hboot and reroot look here ... in android development thread for htc evo

Thanks for the help, I'm on HBOOT-2.16.0001
So do I need to start back from the beginning. I found this link that is for Rooting with Hboot 2.16, I just want to make sure that I'm doing the right thing. The other link is to downgrade my Hboot but it says I need to be S-Off to do it. My phone can't boot past the White HTC screen right now. Is there a way to unroot through Hboot or something without the phone being loaded? Thanks again

Running the latest RUU should get your phone up and running again. Then just use revolutionary again and you should be S-OFF again. Also be sure to permanently set S-OFF with unrevoked forever before flashing a new hboot.

I tried flashing the deodex version of the stock ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245291.
I downloaded the file and changed the name to PC36IMG.zip. I turned on my phone to Hboot which read the file but I didn't get a message asking if I wanted to install it, the bar went for a little while and then it went to "Checking...[PC36IMG.zip]" but I don't know if it actually flashed anything. When I rebooted my phone it just went back into FastBoot. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong? It still won't let me into Recovery, it just freezes at the HTC EVO 4G screen. I haven't gotten caught in this loop before. Thanks for the help

With S-ON you'll only be able to flash PC36IMGs that have been signed by HTC, otherwise it will reject it. This one here should work for you though.

I am having the same exact issue on a HTC Evo View. Is Revolutionary rooted S-OFF HBOOT-6.14.5555. I tried the PC36IMG.zip file in root of sd card as well. It seems to get erased. I dont see a recovery image file for htc evo view in Rom Manager. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

[q] main version is older!!!!!!!!

im trying to put stock froyo on my htc incredible but when i go into hboot it trys to update to it but it says "update failed main version is older" can someone please help me with this?
Where are you getting the froyo rom at? You might have to find a flashable one and do it in recovery, or factory reset so you don't have a newer version.

How comfortable are you with ADB, Mr. Schust3r5? if you use this string of ADB commands it will allow you to flash the older froyo PB31IMG.zip so you can root.

Start at step 4) downgrade with ADB.
Good Luck!
