Other ways to access app switcher - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Recent iphone convert here. Already tried searching and surprisingly got no results on the forums. Are there other ways to access the app switcher than holding down the home button? Are there finger gesture apps or something?

Are you rooted and have you flashed a new rom yet?? I assume no seeing as you say you are a recent iPhone convert.. Try looking into rooting and flashing and you will discover a WHOLE new world of fun stuff with your new Galaxy! Welcome to Android, where you can play with just about every aspect of your user experience. :good:

Check out apex, nova, or holo launcher. They allow gestures on the home screen.

[REQUEST] remove swipe up from nav bar

Was gonna post this in development but didn't wanna get flamed.
Is it possible to remove the swipe up from nav bar action?
I'm always accidentally doing that when scrolling & such. I'd like to keep Google now, just remove the shortcut.
I searched to no avail, just talk of changing the shortcut & removing Google now.
If someone could point me in the right direction ill do it myself, I just don't know where to start.
Thanks in advance for any advice! I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking this..

And thank you for not doing that !

Sent you a pm. (also this is just for galaxy nexus obviously)

Its possible, but the Google now code is not open source. So you'd have to remove it, then code an app to mimic the swipe up.
I'm not looking to use another app, just remove the shortcut all together so swiping up from the nav bar doesn't do anything at all.
I'm constantly opening Google now by mistake when scrolling

You can kinds of disable it using SwipeLaunch Disabler.
https:/play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hk.sld.SwipeLaunchDisabler
Just disable Google Search in Settings > Apps > All, no need to install anything................
If your ROM has navbar shortcuts, you can just set the shortcut for Google Now to be blank. You'll still get the ring if you swipe up, but there'll be no apps on it for you to accidentally open.

Strange...never had this problem for couple years while using custom roms.

One finger zoom feature? ...Grrrrr...

I brought this up as a response in the bugs/fixes thread in General, but thought it deserved its own thread here. I'd like to know if this is a TW "feature" or something else that Sammy or T-Mo has baked into the ROM...
On a zoomable page, such as in a browser or in an email, if you swipe up/down along the left or right edge of the screen it zooms in/out as if using a pinch gesture. It gets really (really really really) annoying to have to be so careful of WHERE my finger is on the screen when I want to scroll and to not end up zooming. Are others being driven crazy by this?
I already spent time with Samsung Support to see if there was a way to toggle the "feature" and they told me I was SOL . I put in a feature request with them to add a toggle FWIW.
(this is on a stock, unrooted T-Mo GN2)
This may or may not be helpful, but regarding Google Maps.. Which you may or may not be using while driving: they recently added a double tap hold, slide up and down to zoom. I'd love that feature to be implemented into browser and others with pinch to zoom, but that's gonna be up to the developers.

I had this issue too. I flashed a different ROM (the hacked ROM by cnmard (forget his username) ) in the development section and it doesn't seem to have this "feature." You can flash the ROM or ask in the thread how to turn it off. But it seems you'll need root regardless....
I was wondering why ive never had this accidental zoom...then I realized I have been using a 3rd party browser all along.. doesnt have this feature

I found the feature to be active on both stock and Dolphin browsers. Haven't tried any other ones yet. Which 3rd party browser are you using?

I've been trying to keep the GN2 unrooted (company mobile device policy), but this issue may force me to temporarily root to apply a fix if any dev can provide one that doesn't require a full ROM flash.

Rom suggestion based on...

I got wife a gs3 and I'm looking for a rom for her. Not having the phone for myself I'm not able to be the flashaholic I normally am for myself. So for people that have flashed a few here, is there one based off what she/I am looking for.
She actually likes touchwiz, so I am hoping there is one with a stock theme, preferably not really themed. I think I prefer it odexed, because from what I understand (I could be wrong) is that with the setup of an odexed rom it is a bit faster feeling. Also more importantly, it has a voice removed with the double tap home button using the voice search/assistant of Google now/search. This maybe common practice but I'm not sure of the community favor of s voice, I find it slower and not as good in my opinion.
If this is an annoyance for a rom suggestion thread, I apologize. Just looking for the guidance of people that for frequently flash the roms offered by this phones devs, and the familiarity of what they offer.
*edit*
After doing research on odexed/deodexed nature, it seems the advantage of odexed comes from only the initial boot. So unless what I have gathered from that little bit research is false, the odexed portion is not important to me.

Graviton or CS ROM.
Graviton is themed but black and blue colored... Not really themed per say. Simple to ogles and all the ztouchwix stuff she would want. Great battery and my wife will actually use my phone with this one.
Only major changes is debloated some and asop MMS and you have to add gs3 weather widget is she wants it....which is easy to do. Also comes with the 4.2 camera. Swap or Samsung keyboard for 4.2 one and she will love it.
dev is awesome as well. He's makes both. Intergalactic is a great one too.

ROM Suggestion
I've been using TWRP and Vanilla Rootbox. I find them very reliable, fast, and well supported. With all the options, you'll probably have to try a few and follow your preferences.
Cheers.
Is the s voice still equipped? If so is there a way to get Google search/now to work in the same manner that s voice does, i.e. double tapping home?

I cant speak for other launchers, but Nova allows you to set any action you want for the home button from your home screen. So, setting the home button to open Google Now from the home screen essentially turns a double press of the home button into automatically opening Google Now. It would be a convenient workaround and would work excatly the same.

[Q] 4.1.2 Keyboard versus Swiftkey question.

Now that we have received our new JB 4.1.2 update from T-Mobile (yeah! :victory, I have a question.
Samsung licensed Swiftkey technology for their keyboard. It does look much better and respond better than before. I also own Swiftkey. That said, I'm waffling between sticking with the stock keyboard and saving some memory versus running Swiftkey and having some additional options for customization.
What do you do?
Do whatever one you prefer, don't know why you want the answer given to you, just preference. Don't stop using apps just because memory more this phone has its memory
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I stopped using SwiftKey because:
1) it was not remembering the words I told it to remember.
2) swipe prediction was terrible.
Using Swype now.
I prefer the note 2 keyboard myself because it has the numbers on top and I don't have to keep it that stupid little button on the side to make my numbers pop up.

Same here. I would gladly buy the newer swiftkey if it had the option to add the numbers at the top

Or just use the free note 2 keyboard from a flashable zip.

Only SwiftKey can insert space bar by swiping over the space bar without letting go of your finger. I find that really hard to beat. I'll stick to SwiftKey until I find something that could do better.
Been looking
Hi guys first post ever here in XDA. Been lurking for a while.
I have the Frosty JB 4.1.1 v11.2.1. I removed alot of apps through Titanium and when I do a factory reset, I don't have any keyboards. I am looking for the stock or note2 or the new 4.1.2 keyboard to install. I have swype but want to get stock so I can put it in the proper folder for factory resets so I wont be without a keyboard upon reboot. I have searched and all I keep finding is themed KB and cant get them to work. I hate the dev stopped producing the frosty rom, I love it on my phone. Cant find the v11.2.1 or I would just start fresh there.
Thanks in advance.

You can either "convert to System app" using TiBu Pro or move the .apk to the /system/app folder and reboot. Root is required for either.
And just fyi, there shouldn't be a link to the note2 kb in the themes and apps sticky.

Because your SwiftKey is from the black market if you have one from the play store and latest upgrade it will stick after reboot like my.

:highfive:
Thank you all. I found tp2215 library and picked up the note2 and installed via zip in cwm.
Then bought the TIBU, per DJ_SpaRky recommendation. I then made a sys app out of the note2.
I just did a factory restore and whamo, Im up and going.
Thank you all very much.
Glad to hear that you were able to get it done.

Preferences
Its all based on your preferences. I have used both and didn't think anything could be better than swiftkey till I saw the new Samsung keyboard on the s4 Note2 roms. I go back and forth now looking for a new king. I like the option of having the permanent numbers row on the ported note2 but I am also trying the new Kii keyboard on the play store. Install them all and swap back and ofrth in settings untill you decide which works best for you. I currently have 4 or 5 installed.

Phone on LMT launcher

Does anybody know why the phone app on my LMT launcher does not work? I'm running wicked v5.1, stock deviant kernel. Is there a workaround? Thanks in advance...:beer::beer:

Were you asking how to get the lmt pie control to work included in wicked rom? You have to enter the settings and start lmt and then pick where you want it to open from. I hope I helped and if I read it wrong let me know of maybe I can try helping again.
No I'm sorry what I meant was I know how to use it, it's just when I add "phone" as one of the quick apps, it doesn't bring up the dialer?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
Hmm I see I just tried it and it didn't work for me either. I'm thinking of just installing the app itself (not using the wicked one) and see what happens.

Hello everyone! I am using LMT 2.0 and also have the same problem (the phone app does not work from the pie), but I think I have found a solution.
Under the list of normal commands about the pie, select "app" then select "CONTACTS" from the list of applications. This must be some kind of bug, because instead of opening the list of contacts, it opens up the phone dialer app, instantly.
(hopefully this works on other phones) (I am using a custom rom on jelly bean)
