Ics update?? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello i am running dixperia 2 gingerbread and thinking of updating i no longer use my play for gaming just as a phone should i update to ics jellybean or dont even update

There are no ICS or JB updates for the play.
BUT,
If ure talking about flashing roms, go for it.
I like JB better than ICS.

I think, the Unofficial ics release is very nice. Looks very greatly

Any major bugs in JB because ICS is laggy

I use UnOfficial ICS Test Release Xperia Play and most games work great!

Go for it. i switch between ics and JB. all the time and i find it really good. and it even runs better then stock.

nxt ver 1.3 best ever

Just do it, its very easy to do and you can go back anytime if you would like too. i would recommend Cyanogenmod 9 (stable) if you want ics and Cyanogenmod 10 (not stable) if you want jb.

I think the Unofficial ICS Update 1 is a great rom for everyday use, even for gaming. Very smooth and stable. You should try it.
Looking at GB roms, NXT 1.3 offers a great user experience with an excellent performance.

Unofficial ICS is laggy like hell. Go for Paranoid Android.

Laggy? My Play is running Update 1 with Lupus v8 kernel and I wouldn't consider it laggy.
As always, everyone has his own tweaks, apps and configuration so the user experience may vary, but this is a very fine tuned ICS rom.

Um, i havent installed anything. So much lags (animation lags + unstable).. PA is just 10 times better, faster and smoother.

This rom with the latest JB Adreno libraries (included in Update 1) and Lupus kernel is very smooth, but maybe I should try PA too.

Pros/Cons of ICS for XPlay?

So what are the pros and cons of ICS for XPlay? Can I root it, etc.?
With ICS you get the latest Android OS and all of its goodies (functions, theme, root etc.), but some games that worked fine on GB are either laggy, buggy, or unplayable. So if you use it primarily as a gaming device stick to GB, but if you use it as a phone, you can try out ICS.
I myself have used ICS all this summer, was pretty neat, but the games that didn't work on it and that I really wanted to play made me switch back to GB.

Thanks, but Titanium Backup is REALLY REALLY far from perfect. I have a ton of apps and reinstalling them with TB is hard to do. Not all the apps will reinstall, then you have to keep figuring out which will install or not install...it's a process that requires hours and hours to do... I even have the paid version.
I'm using CM9.1.0 stable version and I find it laggy and unresponsive at times. More so than I ever noticed when I was on stock GB. I much prefer ICS to GB though so I put up with it. It is annoying at times.

Are there any cons when installing ICS on the r800at? Everytime I try to install ICS Pureness on it, it keeps bricking...so the phone never boots past the SE title/logo...

You might as well try out Jellybean. It feels so much smoother as any ICS ROM I've used. I'm running Supervenom's ROM with the included kernel and am very impressed with it.
I'm not sure about this, but is PSXperia working on Android 4.0 or 4.1 or up?

It depends what day it is. Seriously, I swap ROMs so often even I don't know for sure.
Enhanced 2.3.6 has been the best for stability etc but CM7 offers the next best stability with greater features - e.g. music controls on the lockscreen.

[XperiaS] [POLL] What ROM do YOU use?

Let's see what are the most popular ROMs for our Sony Xperia S!
FXP CM10
I tried many roms, yet I returned to stock pre-rooted .55. Maybe I'm noob, but I prefere stock Sony widgets and UI. Waiting for 4.1.2 from Sony.
PS Removed Facebook and TimeShift using RootUninstaller. Maybe it's placebo effect, but without FB my SXS is working faster

I wouldn't count on it...my experience has always been the ROM which comes with the phone on the day of its release, always stays the most optimized. Makes sense because while they're creating the phone from scratch, they're building the software for it. Afterwards they're focused on designing newer models and for the older ones it's just "patching" something to make it work on something it wasn't designed for. It will work and most of the time work fine but it's just not that smooth.
I'm using stock .55 rooted. I would love to use any CM based ROM but IMO the image quality is not up to par with Stock ROMS. I could live with a weaker camera quality, but the screen quality is not as good. And the screen is the most important thing. I'm not talking about Bravia, just feel the colors, gradients, etc. all seem much sharper in stock ROMs as opposed to CM based ROMS. Hopefully, when JB is released, those problems will be gone.
CM10.1 open semc 0.4... I tried them allbost all and i thint this one is the smoothest

and in the end it is all up to you and your usage the GB is nice as you have been working with it for along time but you have forgot that the stock GB consumes alote of ram and it sucks when multitasking
so i prefer any custum rom you choose for your daily use thats all
