I put my Samsung S3 in download mode and accidentally power down the device when it was in download mode. Now I get this message that Hardware ID is missing that Windows cannot identify the device plugged into the Samsung Mobile USB Composite Device. What do I do? I am new to Windows and Android, I wanted to root my phone and now this happened. Thanks in advance.

Found the reason it happens because the kies driver has a bug. Its working fine with old 1.4.6.0driver. Remove all you device drivers installed and reinstall 1.4.6.0.
Ps, dont let windows update download the newest driver.

Thanks very much for your replies and sorry for answering so late.
. Uninstall any previous instance of Kies/USB driver
2. Download the latest Kies, specific to your S3.
3. Download Samsung USB drivers 1.4.6.0 (I've tried newer versions but they all failed)
4. REBOOT
5. Disconnect from internet (VERY IMPORTANT!!! - forcing Windows to install local drivers ONLY)
6. With the phone disconnected, install Kies + USB drivers downloaded in steps 2,3
7. Connect the phone and let Windows install the drivers.
8. Reestablish the internet connection.
I do not take credit for this fix. I found it scouring various Windows 7 forums but IT DOES WORK!
Please give me some "Thanks" if this helped you.
Restart your computer and your phone. Usually fixes it for me. Until it pops up again. I've only saw this 2 times since i got the S3, but as i said a reboot fixed it.

I am trying to re-root my Epic after flashing to stock so I could take it into Sprint for repair. I plug it into my netbook running Windows 7 64bit and everything seems to install fine except this thing called "CDC Abstract Control Module ACM". It seems to find the drivers fine and even gets to the place where it says "Installing Driver Software", but then it hangs forever. I tried just running the CWM One click root, but it says "Phone not connected".
Anyone know what this CDC is and how to make it install? I have tried a few times doing system restore back to before I installed the Samsung drivers, then started over from scratch. But, nothing seems to work.

mine hung on that too... wish I still had an old copy of the drivers, I swear they changed. Either that, or one other thing is that when I did the same as you about a month ago, I hadnt installed the Android SDK yet... come to think of it, idunno why, I THINK we still need it, but maybe not. Whenever I get issues with drivers installing, I uninstall them, reboot PC, reinstall, reboot PC, plug in epic, let it install drivers till it hangs, then quickly pull out then re-insert the USB in the phone and it sometimes will trip it up and complete the install. Also, now that I think of it, I was having issues installing drivers with the epic running a GB leak, as soon as I Odined to EC05 (using a different PC) they seemed to install fine. Hmmm... just reread your post, coffee THEN post, thats a good tip, anyways, maybe try the different ports on the PC, etc... I think the drivers are the biggest ***** of the whole process... everything else works pretty easily.
Weird I had the same problem I just unplugged my phone restarted my computer and phone and when I plugged it in I had not problems....try restarting both...also what method are u using to root??? And are u on EC05???

I experienced a similar issue, it may have to do with the fact that I didn't wipe cache partition and wiped dalvik cache when installing zip from sd card etc... I don't know what caused it, but nothing I could do (including re-installing drivers a couple of times from KIES and tying it on a different laptop etc.) would fix it until I did a wipe data/factory reset by mistake! (instead of wiping catche partition) ;<( and that seemed to do the job!
Perhaps you may want to try doing a "wipe catche partition" and "Wipe Dalvik Cache" from CWM before tying to go ahead a do a "wipe data/factory reset"?

I did have that 'hardware ID missing' error suddenly after i was connecting my phone to my laptop just fine. my desktop has no problem. i did a few things that seemed to have fixed it or steps for a solution. I downloaded the TMO Samsung drivers. if you already have it installed, try uninstalling it. If that doesn't work, toggle USB debugging in between connecting and disconnecting from the computer. Other times, toggling USB debugging wouldn't work, so i toggled in between MTP and PTP. i play with a few times til it work. hope that helps. i can't post the link the the drivers yet, but get it from samsung's website.
i'm on gsm r6 and trinity kernel
Since I've gotten the phone I've had to keis air everything. Hardware I'd missing error on every PC/laptop I owned.
Up until yesterday. Plugged it in and keis opened. Connection troubleshooting joppy. It redownloaded and installed drivers. Like if always has...but this time it actually worked and so does my mtp now.
I wonder if its ROM related. Before I was using stock with the problem. The aokp unofficial r6 with the problem.

From my experiences it only ever occurs when Kies is running, even in the background, while usb debugging is enabled. If kies isnt running then its all good.
I ran into this using CM9; seems to me that Samsung is using MTP protocol's now instead of USB. I just use Driod Explorer with debugging and I can move files without any issues.
If you are wanting to just transfer files to/from computer try SwiFTP. I love this little program.

From talking to Samsung Advanced Technical Help, I learned that, although it is never mentioned on any site or any literature, if you have
Samsung Studio 3 and/or Samsung New Studio and the USB drivers, uninstall ALL. I use Revo Uninstaller. Then reinstall the USB drivers from Samsung site. Make sure WiFi and Bluetooth are turned off,on the phone, and connect the phone. Should work.
I have upgraded to an S3 from having a Vibrant for years. I rooted and flashed several OS's to my Vibrant in those years without an issue ever. I have been trying to get files transferred to my S3 from my computer for 2 weeks now. The computer has the drivers installed correctly. It is recognized by name when I plug it in (it comes up as SGH-T999, Kies will recognize it too). whenever i try to transfer ANYTHING it stops in the middle of the transfer. just sits there with no further progress to be achieved. This is insanely frustrating. I am unable to root this thing because of the inability to actually transfer.
Things I have tried:
Uninstalling/reinstalling Kies multiple times
Uninstalling all USB device drivers multiple times
Reinstalling drivers through Kies and through Samsung's website multiple times
Factory reset on the phone multiple times (****ing aggravating btw)
Using my old Vibrant cable
Changing between MTP and camera mode... several times
Yelling at it
I have been trying to research how to fix this garbage for weeks now. there is no concrete way to remedy this problem that i have found. every thread about this is littered with the usual "uninstall your driver and reinstall it" nonsense that is the most generic response to anything tech related ever.
What I can tell you is that my phone is definitely getting recognized by anything that can do so. Odin, Kies, My computer, etc etc... it appears that the issue lies in the actual data transfer. As I mentioned, transfers initiate but will lock up mid-process and just hang there infinitely. Same goes with Odin when I try to get it to flash into CWM recovery.
Please, help. any time spent trying to fix this issue is greatly appreciated.
Are you uding the usb cable thst came with the phone?
Have you tried different cables? Or on another computer?
Im guessing your not rooted then?
Try installing the drivers ONLY. get them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728605
Uninstall previous versions of everything first.
What version odin are you using? Use 3.07 from above post if you're not already.
Also try this app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009
If you are rooted try SwiFTP or another wireless transfer app.
Sorry to mention drivers again but if you're relying on kies to do that for you it could be the issue.

Since you've tried everything else might as well follow this guide and install the drivers through the toolkit.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28175575
I'd also run windows update and check if there's a new bios/drivers for your mobo and usb controller.
If you plug another "foreign" usb device does it install fine?
May not have any bearing whatsoever here but do you have usb debugging checked? And I think I mentioned it in the other post but try a different computer if possible.
You said that this happens when using odin too? As in you start the flash with Odin but it doesn't complete? Or it wont even start? Does it give you any message?
When plugged in in download mode, does Odin show your COM port in the upper left?
Plug in the phone and open device manager. Does it show any errors or anything?

I recommend an app called airdroid. I had issues transferring stuff to and from my Mac and haven't had any problems since I started using the program. Besides it's wireless so I don't have to worry about the wires being a problem

everything else works fine from my 6 USB ports (2 USB 3.0 ports as well). The tool kit solution still needs Odin to root. The problem is not detecting the device. it is the transferring of data. Data transfers begin but that's about it. Odin gets to "firmware update start" and then "boot.img" and just hangs there forever. no change. nothing else.
Is there a wireless way to do this? I have purchased Rom Manager but since i can't achieve root it is just useless now. The phone is brand new from the Tmobile store. Not once has it been dropped (to put into perspective how careful i am with my devices, I managed to drop my Vibrant once in ~3 years, which caused no damage, what a great phone that was). I have not been able to read about this same issue anywhere else either...generally its an issue with the PC not recognizing the device but when someone gets it to link up correctly, it works. this is the opposite.
thank you for your ideas so far.

Odin shows the "0:COM" like it should, which means it is able to read that the device is there, it just is unable to do anything after "boot.img", everything that is needed for this to work via the toolkit method is checked (USB debug and unknown sources).
I just got the s3 and had transfer issues too. Turns out my s2 drivers wasn't perfect for it even though it recognizes the device. I used the s3 drivers instead and that helped things a bit with accessing my phone's storage. So i ended up formatting my internal storage and that seems to do the trick for me.
If that doesn't work and odin still gets stuck then try different usb ports also try different wires

Did you do that through terminal? doesn't the single partition mean that it would wipe everything?
Make sure the drivers you are using are the same ones that are in my comment (version).
What are you trying to flash through Odin? If the permissions of the files inside the tar file are not correct, the transfer will hang, and do nothing but give a timeout message after a couple minutes. I learned this the hard way.
In summary:
Use a different USB cable.
Download drivers, Odin, and CWM from my signature. After uninstalling the old drivers manually through devman (be sure to delete them during uninstall), reinstall them from the package you downloaded. Then use Odin to flash CWM. All three of these packages are tested and known to be 100% working. Please don't ignore this step. If I can't verify the validity of your installation sources, I can't rule this out for troubleshooting purposes.
If this doesn't work, it is most likely your computer. Are there any BIOS firmware updates that improve USB compatibility, or USB controller driver updates? The USB 3.0 isn't natively supported on =< Win7, so those are third party drivers. But I will assume you are connected to a USB 2.0 port.

My galaxy note 8 (n5110) was working perfectly until I installed, greenify + xposed installer... I noticed it was draining my battery; uinstalled it. But battery still draining. Did a reset factory, and didn't fix the problem. I flashed a stock rom and it solved the problem.
Everything was working perfectly, until i installed triangle away (wanted to reset my flashcounter)... worked so smooth.
But... surprise!!

BUT it detects it in download mode!
*USB Settings disappeared from my tablet. (that options doesn't exist anymore)
*S Note opens but it suddenly closes. Doesn't work.
And when turn tablet on, it does show a blank screen for 3 seconds (instead of the galaxy note n5110) and then the samsung animation and loads fast.
I've tried fixing everything, flashing stock rom again, reset factory, flashing only system, over and over, but nothing works.
I need help. It's rooted. Custom recovery...

I understand this might be a foolish and maybe an unnecessary question but I am going to ask anyway.... since you have custom recovery have you made a back up of your setup when it was running good?

Yes,but somehow my tablet didn't want to read my sd card and had to formatted... neither my laptop wanted to read it. So I lost it.
Right now, my tablet allows me to connect and detect only in 'download mode'.
I hate to say this but seeing as though you have lost everything already on your SD card and only can get the Note into download mode I would say that there is not much left then either try to flash a custom recovery thru Odin or a complete reflashing of a stock Rom and start over.
Give this a try http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Just type in your model number and flash thru Odin.
And for a custom recovery (Philz) you could look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552657
Hoping this helps

Already did all of that. And everytime I start fresh and clean, it does the same thing... same problem, even with the stock rom; no usb settings, connect it to the laptop, makes the sound but doesn't show anything unless it is connected 'download mode', I can flash it.
S notes does close.
Blank screen and then samsung animation and boots up...
It's really weird!
My tablet is working perfectly except that I want to have back those things; I want to be able to connect via USB and read my sd card.

I just did a little reading and came across this http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDo...-Device-Driver-293101125-Download-190148.html that's the driver for MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) give that a try

No, not working.
Same thing. Only detected in 'download mode'.
If I go to setting/configuration doesn't show the Usb setting option..
This might sound unnecessary but have you tried different cables?

Yes, different cables.. and makes the sound when I connect it, but same problem.
I'm planning to try flashing again, perhaps stock rom again or custom rom... I'l try whatever it takes!
Advices? Other ideas?
What does the Nand Erase option does in Odin? Do you know?
No I don't and I would not mess with that, what version of Odin are you using?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
3.07... version.
I flashed again with stock rom, and didn't fix the problem.
Perhaps, there's no solution yet!
Download and install Odin 1.85 and try to fresh download the stock firmware here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are enabled. Also, ensure that the Re-partition checkbox is NOT enabled

Can you check this,
When you plug in your USB cable does the icon connected as... appear in the notification bar? If so drag that down and click on it, you should see storage settings .... connect as with two options MTP and PTP if MTP is checked try to check PTP with the USB cable plugged in and the PC will automatically install the necessary drivers and see if this will recognise the Note.

Do you have the correct drivers installed? If so, you could uninstall and reinstall them. Also, have you tried PTP connection rather than MTP?

Been there done that and have always eventually been able to get it back so the computer sees the device as mtp. Wugs toolkit has always been helpful
To me. I like the step by step directions for manually updating the drivers and configuring them correctly in adb AND fastboot.
Bit I have come to an impass..........I am currently on the latest carbon nightly, with f2fs file storage for data and cache. My computer will not recognize the device in mtp and I am unable to pass files with a USB cable. I am wondering if my computer has to be compatible with f2fs, because iam sure that it is not. Will this make a difference PR should I once again uninstall and reinstall the drivers configuring them correctly?

Plug it in to a computer.
Boot into recovery if you have one
Adb devices......hopefully it shows and work from there.
Or boot into bootloader mode (after getting the twrp IMG)
Fastboot flash recovery......
Then you can side load your favorite OS

this worked for me im just passing along a possible fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383146&page=389 post #3888 is the one I followed and been no problems since. also cpl days before in my sdk program google had updated drivers which may or may not have played a roll. before this I could not pass files with mtp only ptp would allow my device to appear. hope it helps!
edit also should note I did device manager then android devices removed drivers in there. plugged in n7 and the adb composite interface drivers installed and that was it. if that doesn't do it make sure sdk has updated google driver which should be 10.0.0 or something don't quite remember exact #
