Just got 6 hours of screen time...... - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Okay so I'm in full wtf mode right now. I just got 6 hours if screen time with the stock battery. I under clocked my CPU to 800 MHz(which doesn't matter because this is how much it normally uses any way.) And I set brightness on low plus turned the data off when I wasn't using it. But I've done all this before and have never gotten this type of battery life. Is it the new cm9 beta and the "PEGASUSQ" governor? 6 hours of screen time without a extended battery is supposed to be impossible. Especially with heavy usage.(reading manga/watching videos/listening to music for the whole day )
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app

hell yeah. I got 7 before on a cm 10 rom and 12 on an extended battery. which was like 4 or 5 hours reading but yes. I think if people turn off data the phone tends to last longer. I know a lot need their emails tho.
EDIT: im sorry, looking at my screenshots, i was on aokp ics

Check your battery - actually open your back cover and check it. There seems to be a major issue with this phone's battery failing. I checked mine 2 hours ago because I got fed up with the battery drain. And like all the other cases, my battery is swollen and defective. I'm not sire when this happened or what caused it.

that gets caused by leaving the phone on the charger long after it has fully charged and/or overheating on the battery. it does happen a lot while phone is plugged in.
but actually I think you got his post wrong, we're saying we got great battery. 6 +hours screen ontime. My total was like 12 or something... I have some screenshots..

CM9 gives me close to that. I can get 17 hours of total time with 5 hours of screen time. Its not impossible. Especially if your turning data off inbetween and saving more battery for your screen. CM goodness.....

Download CM9. turn screen brightness down. Set it up to 'keep screen on'. and run it for 6+ hours. There would be your proof. Definately possible from what I see. I'll attach some screens from yesterday's usage for me.

Two different days. one with lots of screen time and almost half battery left. Another showing lots of standy (14+ hours) and almost 3 hours screen time and still 30% left. Both had wifi always on set. and neither do I toggle data off.

galaxy s3 issues

I just got my s3 a few days ago and my battery is terrible. it shows that the cell standby is almost every second . Also compared to my gnexus when I listen to music the sound quality is a lot worse and has a lot of static. Do you guys have any of these problems?

Battery life isn't worth writing home about... not the worst I've ever experienced, but not great.
It's annoying that when game audio's playing out the external speaker, you only hear one channel... (some games sound very strange because of that)
However, the thing I have a pet peeve over is that when it's connected to bluetooth, notification sounds stutter most of the time. (not sure how to describe it other than stutter).
I'm uncertain if that issue is isolated to my phone or if it's a general issue. I'm working on getting a demo phone to test if it's my phone or a general issue with Samsung vs Kenwood...
Battery life is amazing on a custom kernel. For some reason (yields I'm guessing) most cpus are horribly over volted. I get similar battery life as my razr maxx now. Sound Quality is meh from the external speaker but pretty good from headphones.

It's just what it's called. Would you prefer there be separate items? Cell standby, cell 2g, cell 3g, cell 4g, cell data, cell roaming, etc.
"Cell standby" is the amount of power the cell atennas are using period, regardless of what they're doing.
It says right on there "Battery used by cell radio", you don't have a separate item showing battery from using the antenna with a different name do you?
I am REALLY hoping tmo allows wifi calling on airplane mode soon lol.
I've had mine for a week, replaced a MyTouch 4G running JB. So far, generally good. My only concern is how badly Temple Run plays on it. Stutter and lag worse than any Android phone since G1.
I'm running stock, uprooted. Any suggestions short of running CM? Could my phone be defective? Temple Run is my de defto standard for phone performance and so far my GS3 is not good.

No but I can tell u that I upgraded from the Samsung epic 4G which had around the same battery life if not similar. And every since switching to the S3 battery life has been great. Depending on what u gonna do with the S3 overall battery life will depend on usage, browsing screen on/off and gaming of course multi-media. Unfortunately could average anywhere from 5-to 12 hours max. Max if u don't touch ure phone through the out the day other then for some random things, minimum if u use it for making a lot of calls surfing the Web a lot and plying games ull average around 5-6 hours. All this u can achieve by rooting and flashing a custom romantic that will give good battery life.
Staying on stock rom will give anywhere from 7-8 hours max.
I too came from the Evo 4G and I also went the 3500mAh battery route, I could get two days on it. With a stock battery and a custom rom I get somewhere in the 15 - 20 hour neighborhood on my SGS3

if u want a reallt good battery i recommend the 4500MaH made by incredicell at accessory swamp very good battery life, ive average anywhere from 2 to 3 days tops without messing with my phone much and excessive use at around 23 hours forgetting to plug in my phone and still have around 35 to 40 percent left. now it averages from person to person and custom rom upon how much u use it but thats an estimate. plus u get ure own nice hard back plate and very impresive battery. i was impressed and loved the battery. but decided to sacrifise the battery for protection on my gs3 and boought a good deal 2x battery set both rating at 2100mah with nfc built in so my phone wouldnt shatter for the 3rd time replacing it for the third time sigh.

ive read lots of reviews on hyp that their batteries arent as good as they claim to be, issues with the battery not chargin 100 percent on dock, and batery dying really fast, but dunno, i went with Qcell like it so far battery life is pretty good, just as good as the original if not better, my battery percentage drops like 1 percent every 2 1/2 hours if not 3 hours a go. if dont mess with it. when i had my 4500 incredicell it would drop 1 percent every 5 or 6 hours if i didnt mess with it usually.
i get about 15/17 hours of heavy use and 1 day and a few hours with average use and not charging over night. I normally just run my battery til it's dead. Using Lte hasn't hampered by battery performance see far i don't see a noticeable difference.

Honestly I get almost 24h and 7h display on time. And this 7 h is with some games (30min maybe), 1h youtube and rest is xda and browsing web.
However I use autostarts to disable all running unnecessary background apps and no sync whatsoever. I set the email sync only when I open the app.
I had to carry an extra battery with my sgs2 an couldnt leave the house at night if battery was % 30. With this phone I dont have to cuz I know % 30 will last me whole night.
Dont worry with several charge cycles it will get better...
Edit: I am running jedi rom with perseus kernel.

Baterry Life Geesh!

So I decided to do what the manufacturer recommends when it comes to the battery, you know, charge it fully then discharge it. So I pulled it off the charger at 6am at 100%....moderate to heavy usage all day as I just unwrapped it, went to bed at 76%...so i turned on navigation and opened up a movie on Netflix hoping that would drive the battery down. I woke up at 56%! Myvold note would be dead, but this thing just keeps going! Christmas have mercy, this thing is amazing!

Yea man,Samsung did a phenomenal job this time around with the battery .I came from the i717 and I am so happy about battery life now!!!!
agreed. I was skeptical about the battery life reviews prior to purchasing and with a larger display and faster processor I figured no way any of this could be true. Coming from Galaxy SII that could not make a 6 hour day of use without being tethered to a PC and going out with anything less than a full charge was a recipe for disaster.
I can go a full day browsing and playing music on my Note II and not drain the battery.
Battery life is amazing. I have to really try and kill it to get it dead inside of a day.

It's not too hard to kill the battery on this monster. You can do a few things to really get the battery down, such as actual gaming, watching movies, and a lot of web browsing. Outside of that, it's really difficult to kill this battery under 24 hours. I have had very limited usage on my phone over the holiday. I am up to 77+ hours of battery time and a little over 3 hours of screen-on time and still have 7% battery left! If someone put a gun to my head and asked me to truthfully tell them when's the last time I had a phone other than the Note II, that could last 3 days without a charge, someone better call a really good clean-up crew!
I love the battery life, but I'm thinking about getting an extended battery just for the heck of it.

This thing rivals some of the later model RIM devices I've had. Well done Samsung.

I agree. It's amazing. Makes you wonder if they are going to put an even bigger and better one in the note 3.

I am shocked at the battery life on this, if I knew it was this good I would have bought it the first day it came out about twice as long as my note 1 and quite a bit longer then my nexus 4. I bought the phone Tuesday rooted and running clearom 3.5 and note2core ex kernel and about to get over 8 hours screen on time on the first full cycle of the battery I am amazed !!!

Its nice to have a phone that you can run a live wallpaper on and it not drain the battery like crazy!

8 hours of screen time watching movies on a cross country flight and I landed at 60% Holy smokes!! I've never come close draining the battery on a full heavy usage day.

I have everything turned on. Bluetooth, exchange sync, all Google services sync, Skype in background, IM+ in background, weather update at 15min and still can't come close in draining the battery. I am also trying to fully charge the battery and drain it. It takes me a day and half to kill it with everything running and navigation running wherever I go.

I find this hard to believe, 8 hours of movies only using up 40%. That's 5%/hr, that's amazing if true.

When the phone uses L T E connection the battery goes down 10% per hour. I guess that is normal for everyone too.

I get phenomenal battery life. Cant complain. I average about 32-36 hours per charge y about 4 to 4 1/2 hrs of screen time

Yeah Im on stock still and im on my second day of messing around. Im so used to my Note 1 that every night needed a charge even with power save on lol. Super well done. Charges quicker as well.

I too am quite surprised by the battery life offered by the Note II. This thing simply smokes any other phone I've used in terms of how long I can get out of a single charge, it's really impressive. I'm used to plugging my phone in every 6-8 hours on a day of heavy usage even with power saving mode turned on, whereas the Note II seems to be able to go pretty much all day and even then some depending on the usage.
I have the s3, but two of my good friends both have noteII and the first thing they both mentioned to me about the phone is the battery life! After being around one for a full day with much usage, I must agree it is very impressive for such a big screen!

Extreme battery drain

I can only use my phone for around 5hours on time until she dies. This is super annoying because of school it dies before lunch :/. Have flashed many different ROMs, tried different radios, one or two ROMs seemed to fix this but don't remember which ones did . Phone dies 1% every 3 minutes it feels, this is retarded is there any known issues with that or fixes? Sticking with juice defender till I find a better option

do you leave your mobile data on?
also what is your cpu settings?
what rom and kernel you running
and take screenshot of battery usage page and post please
I always leave data on, yes. ROM: Jedi jelly 4, I believe that its insecure kernel because idk any other tw jb kernels. Also on the lb7 blaze radio but I constantly switch those up when I get frustrated with battery. Screenshot may not be accurate because I just flashed at like 430 today, so battery was at like 78% ish on last charge which was around an hour and a half ago. CPU settings are untouched atm

Download GSam battery monitor to find out what is draining your battery. Then we can look at assisting you in fixing it.

Bad battery maybe?

Read my reply to the post here. It's an optional and known way of saving battery life for almost any Android phone and help prevent any overheating that you may experience with the phone.
Is your GPS on all the time? Account sync? Settings and data backup? Auto brightness or manual?
Always let the phone drain to 10% or less then fully charge it uninterruped, meaning dont unplug it.
CPU management always helps, especially with screen off. Also use wifi instead of data if avail at school or anywhere else for that matter
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I'm betting its the battery. Place it on a flat surface. If it doesn't lay flat and it has a bulge that causes it to bounce around, your batteries screwed.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Got gsam, have ran it for a day. 100% at 6:00 am, 31% at 3:57 pm. This normal ? I flashed back to stock koodo everything , so is this just the quality of the phone? Yes, GPS is always on. Data is normally left on, although I do turn off WiFi from time to time. I used to have a nexus s and the battery would last for days, yet it's smaller and I never had to turn off things. I even get battery drain like this on cm based ROMs ?!

I went from Jedi Knight 6 to Jedi Jelly 4 two days ago and the Rom is super fast and snappy. Very little lag and no issues with fc so far. I do have a little bit of a battery issue myself. When I use the phone for anything I can sit there for an hour and watch the phone dip to below 80% after a full charge. It seems to eat battery when in use but overnight I get almost 14 hours of left untouched. I would like to get at least 8 hours with medium to heavy use. Is that a reasonable number? I have gone through three battery cycles so far.

Actually we are already discussing battery drain in this thread, so the previous poster did exactly what he should have. We don't want multiple threads for one topic.
Regarding your stats.. That's not too bad, but it's hard to say without seeing screen time, app usage, etc.

For anyone requesting input on battery life, please post screenshots of your battery screens as well as screen time. Also post a screenshot of the app sucker list in GSam battery monitor. It's impossible to say what's going on without seeing anything that's using your battery.
