Hi,
I'm wondering what's the step I should do to turn on my hotspot? I mean to do this on a rooted phone.
Also, is there any app is easy to uninstall those ATT customized apps? I just want a clean S3
Thanks

It turns out I can use ES file explorer to uninstall those I don't want.
But how can I change the setup like to turn on hotspot?
Thanks
Better yet what's the best underground app to not get caught. Another thread explained that att had a lock on all tether apps on google play.

Sorry I'm kind of lost here.
Do you mean I can't change the setup on my rooted S3? All I want is to make my ATT S3 become a hotspot, however I'm using the 3G data plan so I'm not able to turn it on.
Thanks

You can try FoxFi. Can't post the link yet but it was mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28861305&postcount=19
Otherwise you'll need to root your phone and install a separate app or ROM to enable the tethering.
I don't recall ever seeing one that DIDN'T have the option to turn on WiFi tethering (hotspot) in Settings > Wireless and Networks > More Settings > Tethering and Mobile HotSpot. What sdlopez was saying is that whether you use that option, or you use an app from Google Play that allows you to turn it on, AT&T will more than likely see that you're tethering and force you onto their plan that allows tethering.

Yes, there is a hotspot option but AT&T block it since I only apply 3g data plan.
I check with my wife's S3(no root) and FoxFi is blocked already. Even with my S3(CM10) this app can't work either. I assume it's because of my carrier?
Well, it looks like I have to stick with CM10 cuz it's able to turn on hotspot easily at system setting.
Right now I'm wondering will AT&T know that I'm using customized rom to enable hotspot which is supposed not allowed?
Thanks.

I was playing around with settings tonight and discovered Settings -> More Settings (under Data) -> tethering. Checked it, paired my phone and my Win7 PC, initiated an "access point" connection from the PC, and suddenly I was browsing while using my phone as an access point. Granted it was 3G speeds, but it did work.
Does this work for me because I have mobile hotspot, or is this a feature that shouldn't be working, or does it work for everyone? I'm not rooted, using the latest software update (with multiview). I can't even remember far enough back to when a carrier would have ever simply allowed bluetooth tethering, not even Sprint. It's a nice feature to have since WiFi radios usually wear batteries down faster.

this will work for anyone the only thing differnet for people subscribing to hotspot and those who dont is the ability to wirelessly tether with hotspot. hopefully soon we anyone rooted at least will be able to use free wifi thether
Interesting, thanks. I'm still surprised Sprint would allow this considering they offer unlimited data.
That's weird. I just tried this and I got an error 67, registration failed. Maybe they "fixed" it in the software update.

Are using a Galaxy Note 2 on Sprint? Your image tag says you're on AT&T.
Sprint has unlimited data on the phone data only. They have separate plans for hotspots.

I wasn't talking about hotspot. I was talking about Bluetooth tethering, and asking if it requires hotspot to work, because with unlimited data you could tether with bluetooth and theoretically have unlimited internet on your PC through your phone.
Can you tether via wifi? There is a wifi tethering app. You can find on xda or PM me and I will email it to you or post a dropbox link.

Hey all,
Does anyone have a wifi tethering app suggestion? or specific settings to set on a particular app to get wifi tethering working?
I'm rooted using MotoChopper. I tried WiFi Tether for Root Users and I can get the app to start just fine but my the network doesn't appear to be broadcasting as I can't see it on any other devices.
I can't use the built in hotspot feature because it's not enabled on my plan.
I understand it's early in the development stages for the SGS4 but just seeing if anyone has a workaround for the time being.
Thanks,

Some strings need to be edited in the framework to change where the traffic get directed to so T-Mobile doesn't see you are tethering. Then you will be able to use the native app/toggle.

does it provide free tethering? or are you on a tethering data plan?
Is it possible to redirect all tethered traffic through a VPN and therefore circumvent t-mobiles tether detection?
E.g. set up an SSH tunnel with port forwarding on the phone and then set your phone as a proxy server on your PC?
Or, if t-mobile only uses user-agent detection, can you simply use a VPN directly from your PC? As all traffic is then encrypted, t-mobile should no longer be able to identify its origin.
im on my unlimited plan, and the free version is limited to a small bandwidth limit. 8 bucks for the full version and no additional fees.
Sup Guys, so I recently I rooted my phone thinking that I could find a fully working way that would let me get free wifi hotspot from tmobile. I have the 4G Nation Unlimited data plan which is supposed to give me 2.5 GB of Hotspot but it doesn't. So I called and asked tmobile and they said I can't this service cause I have "Grandfather Plan" so I have to upgrade my plan, which I'm not willing to do.
Anyways, does anyone know a hack that would let me bypass the wifi hotspot plan verification thing?

I'm kinda new to this? What is a VPN exactly and I heard that it slows down speed.
Oh and my hotspot doesn't even turn on because it says I don't have the wireless hotspot plan.

You'll need to use the Root method for enabling hotspot or download a custom ROM with native hotspot enabled. And only the free VPNs slow your speed. If you pay for a VPN then its not slowed (usually costs around 3 bucks a month for the VPN) A vpn will be the only way to get the itouch working as i don't think you are able to change the User Agent of the Safari browser on the itouch.
And Google will give you more and faster answers then waiting for a reply on here if you don't know what a VPN or User Agent is

A custom ROM would takeout t mobiles hotspot agent out right? If I got a custom ROM do I still need to use a VPN to access the internet?

User agent checking is done on the T-Mobile's servers when they receive the data. Its impossible to stop that without a VPN. So you would still need the VPN to bypass that.

Moved to Q&A.
Just download "Wi-Fi tether router" it's $2 in the play store. It's the only working app that does hotspot through data rather than the hotspot plan. Or use a custom rom with a hacked hotspot built in.

Flash a ROM that has it bypassed, like Fenny's stock kitkat ROM. Tethering works fine for me on it.

On my Note 5 there was an app in the Verizon folder that was a wireless hotspot app.
I kept it on my home screen because I used it quite a bit.
It is gone from the folder now, and I do not see it in the play store.
Anyone know a way I can get the APK from another phone ?
The app is gone. The functionality is now baked into the OS.
Go into your settings. There should be an option for Mobile Hotspot and Tethering. You can set it up from there. There is also a toggle in the notification pull down to turn on and off.
Yea I saw that. I tried to install the apk I got from a couple of other phones but they were only updates. Is there a way to roll back all the updates so I can get the original apk?
Could I get the apk from someone who has a fresh install of an OS and not updated it yet??
Not gonna work man. Your on marshmallow
Quick settings in the pulldown bar has a hotspot toggle, works perfectly for ONE TOUCH hotspot on/off. If I sound excited it's because I used to be on AT&T and they oddly neutered their phones and took the hotspot toggle out of quick settings, and I couldn't find a hotspot toggle app which worked, I tried dozens of them. You had to actually go into settings, then into mobile hotspot, then click the hotspot, then toggle the on button, then click past the wifi will be turned off nag screen, then exit out of settings. So having one click toggle for hotspot is pretty awesome.
Could anyone confirm that this works regardless of the "Mobile Hotspot" feature code on your account? I'm thinking of buying the Note 7, and might avoid rooting it (at least for now) so I can keep Samsung Pay, but I need tethering to work...
I have an former-Alltel plan w/ unlimited data, which never worked with the baked-in "Mobile Hotspot" on my Samsung Note 3 without root+Xposed+XTether. (XTether caused the hotspot feature to avoid the "entitlement check" that usually occurred).

Do you guys not get a weird warning once FoxFi is installed?
After reading this thread I downloaded Foxfi, since hotspot is the only reason I've rooted my phones for years.
The app worked great, and I was able to use my PDANet serial number from 2010 (for my Windows Mobile Moto Q) so I didn't have to pay for it!

Yes, that's because FoxFi has to trick the system to turn on Tethering even if you don't have it in your plan.

I found out it was actually do to a user certificate it installs for the VPN, you can either move it manually to the system location or use a program like this to moved it automatically https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nutomic.zertman&hl=en
Hey everyone, can anyone with the Verizon Z Play test Foxfi to see if hotspot tether work, or if you know of any other way or app. I really want to pick this phone up but I really would like to be able to use hotspot. Thank you.

Correct, but what I'm asking is on Verizon one is required to pay for the hotspot feature and I am looking for a way around that....until root is available.

OK thanks.
Foxfi and PDAnet work on devices that have no root, but I just haven't heard yet if they work on the Moto Z Play, as sometimes certain devices will not work. Example: HTC 10
You can tether via Bluetooth too. Maybe thats a work-around for being charged for wifi tethering?
