I don't think you can. After you use android and the Samsung's samoled you can't go back to walled garden. Even if you sell the S3 and get an iDump after a week you will be sorry.

Its almost a downgrade spec wise, and iOS is just so boring.
I don't get it.
What does iOS have that Android hasn't for years? Please, enlighten me?

-IOS has these things that android doesn't-
A boring layout
Non configurable settings
No choice on what you want to do with your device
No customization
Expensive accessories
The one thing apple has with iOS is its always upgraded to all devices. Not fragmented like android. We still don't have jelly bean. Also build quality. I'm getting tired of plastic $600 phones. At least apple uses quality materials. Also the iPhone has created a culture and had captured peoples hearts. its why they will always be on top.

Yeah that makes sense since the Android market share is already above 50% and iOS is still around 30%. I guess with those percentages Apple is most definitely still on top. LOL
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Apple is on top as far as one phone model outselling any android model. I know the s3 recently outsold the 4s but what do you expect when everyone knows that it is very likely that a new phone would soon come out. New phone coming out means that better hardware will soon be available as well as the current hardware should be cheaper.
Android is on top as far as market value goes though by obviously having the largest share of the smart phone market.
I hate when people compare the fragmentation of android and apple. It is not conceivable to have every android device being kept with the latest android OS simply because it would be far too costly to do so. There are thousands of different models of android phones which have different hardware which further requires different software and drivers to operate their phones. How can someone compare keeping less than 10 devices up to date with the latest OS versus keeping thousands of devices up to date with the latest os?

What you call fragmentation is really called choice, which is better for the consumer. In an anticompetitive market consumers lose out. Apple’s anticompetitive market also contributes greatly to a lack of innovation. iOS is basically the same crap it has been since the first iteration.
It is surprising that you are on XDA forums and you haven't discovered Black Jelly.
I was an iPhone user for four years before I jumped to the atrix and now the galaxy 3. I would never go back but I can honestly say the most intriguing feature of the iphone 5 is the graphics capability. It is definitely unmatched in its class. But its never enough to get me back. Ive been sober for two years now with no urge to go back.

I agree with you about Apple's build quality - - it is very good. However, I'm perfectly happy with the build quality of my S3 as well. As for fragmentation, I have to laugh. Just because different gen iPhones run the same iOS version doesn't mean Apple enables all features for all phones. iOS is becoming very fragmented, they just disguise it better than Android.
And even the new iPhone has a tiny screen. My wife will get the new iPhone, but I'd never consider switching back after having used Android for the last 18 months.

We are always going to be behind with software. This is the Google's and Manufacturer's fault. I have the Galaxy Nexus in my hand today and I had the GS2 for 2 months already there is nothing that Galaxy Nexus has that GS2 doesn't and we have to wait for this **** manufacturer's to release updates. The GS2 is faster and more conferable in hand.

I won't go as far as to say that the Galaxy S II is the better phone. I had a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon and it was great other then a couple defects I ran into. The software on the Galaxy Nexus will most likely be better then what makes its way to the GSII and the notification led on the Nexus is the best one I have seen on any phone. The Galaxy S II has a way better camera and has been a lot more reliable.
Both are great phones. Its really hard to say which one is better.
I say your essentially buying the same phone twice. Besides ics and a few other differences they are basically the same phone.

I'm sure theirs been a long thread discussing this already. Everyone feels strongly opinionated and there is no true winner. They both have pros and cons. If I HAD to choose I would go with the Nexus hands down for the fact that its a nexus phone and development will be great. ICS seems amazing and the display as well.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
Oh man, you guys completely ignore the screen issue our GS2 has. If it was a good screen, had a exynos then it would be better than the nexus. International GS2 fits in that category.
Okay.. I own and love both phones and these types of threads are entirely subjective and flame prone. Holding a phone in your hand is NOT a valid explanation for why a phone is better than another. You need to have plenty of hands-on time to really know the pro's and con's of both. (And neither is immune to either.)

Man we buy the phones for $500 to $600 and we have to cry to get some software updates thats the thing. Google shouldn't relese the update till all the major manufacturers have their updates ready as well. if you read on the i9250 forum, they too have the screen problem, and their screen is 720
other than ICS which we'll get, the only other difference is the Barometer sensor
otherwise the i9250 is actually under grade, they even got a major issue with the storage and MTP, and fake sdcard to make old Apps compatible, but even so, there are still Apps that are still not compatible

Ill take external SD support, 8mp cam over the galaxy nexus anyday. This whole the nexus is better crap is dumb all it has is ics and even ics isn't that amazing i used it on the sensation for two weeks and its really good. It adds plenty of things that are pleasant and well done now on android. The bad is apps still need to be updated but the sensation outclassed the galaxy nexus with ics as it is and once we get it this phone will be above the nexus. People buy a phone and always look for something to complain about the screen issue is annoying if you notice it but I'm hoping supercurio makes a fix for us. Either way my use isn't affected except for maybe 5% of the time and even then its just not pleasant to look at. There are a handful of phones that once they have ics will make the nexus look out dated galaxy s 2, amaze 4g, rezound, razr, etc.... development is just slowed from these phones being new and because developing gingerbread might be worthless if ics is here in a couple months.

I'm having that problem now currently with the SG2 haha. Second day with the phone (last phone was MT4G) and every other time when hitting the space bar I hit one of the "hard" buttons on the bottom. Slowly getting used to it though.
I will say - if the Nexus had an equal or better camera than the SG2, I would probably return this and get that instead, especially as there's supposed to be a white one coming out. But I use my phone's camera A LOT, and it's an important feature for me, so the Nexus is out right there. I don't know why they'd release a 'flagship' phone with semi out-of-date specs. With iphone 4, SG2, and many others coming out with 8 megapixels, why would Google only do 5?? Anyway...

Lol, well the GS2 is a vast improvement over the myTouch 4G. (I loved that phone when it first came out too, lol.)
I think the Nexus camera has a lot of software issues. It is okay but i think it will get better as Google picks up the slack. Hell they paused the latest update for reasons unknown but people have reported much better stats all around with the leaked 4.0.3 that has been lurking around. I truly believe people make a bigger deal than what is necessary about both of these phones. Why try to argue one over the other? They are both great! As i said previously, both have pro's and con's but i think either or should be enough to satisfy the vast majority of users.

Kind of getting sick of the iphone 4 and ios now, want to go back to android . The last android phone I had was a nexus s.
What do you guys think, should I sell on my ip4 and go for the galaxy nexus or another decent android phone?
Really tempted to get a One X, but bad battery life talk puts me off :/
So what do you think? worth the move from ip4 to Gnex?? (or should I wait for ip5) lool.

I had an iPhone 4(okay phone, iOS is just to stagnant for me), then went to a droid charge(terrible phone). I am now on the galaxy nexus and it has been the best experience.
I would say go for it!

The Nexus is easily comparable to the iPhone, I choose to use both (iPhone 4s for personal, and a GNex for work), and I find myself using the Nexus more for music, and games than the iPhone.
It's a good upgrade, but you should find a phone that works for what YOU need it for.
The only thing I envy about the iPhone 4S is build quality.
I wish Samsung and Google somehow came up with a metal and glass design that is unique and different from crapple's iPhone.
But at LEAST the Nexus doesn't shatter into a million pieces when dropped just once.
My last phone was a iPhone4 its a kids phone easy to pick up and use.
Best thing i ever did changing for a Gnex. Apple is over priced and boring

Its possible that the new Nexus will not be released at the end of the year for a few reasons which have been outlined in a thread I made previously:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747121
And I think what it boils down to is that if you want a phone that you just want to pick up and use to its full potential, stick with the iPhone. If you want something that you are prepared to put a bit of work into to attain a much better device go for Android.
Be careful when getting a nexus, you dont want one with a dodgy screen like mine.
I would recommend the GNex to the IP4
Bigger screen, more customization, lighter, less common (in my country)
I would say though IP4 gets more accessories (cases, power packs, docking stations etc.)

I love my Nexus, you won't be disappointed if you get one. I owned an iPhone for a year and half and will never go back. I prefer the open garden approach and Android is leaps and bounds ahead of iOS IMO. You will still have issues with battery life but that is pretty much going to be the case with any smart phone with such a big screen and LTE.
Nooo I'm going to a university in England so ill have no use for 4G and stuff the main thing I like about the iPhone is the retina display its so clear that and the fact it's really fast, also I won't be buying it on contract ill probably pay about £300 and get one of them on pay as you go.

I'm about to upgrade from my Droid 2 Global also, and is thinking about the galaxy nexus or the new droid razr m, from the reviews on the razr m battery life seems pretty good, you might want to consider that.
The defferences I see between the galaxy nexus and the razr
Nexus 4.65 inch screen Razr M 4.3M
Nexus Processor 1.2 MHZ Razr 1.5 MHZ
Nexus no expandable memory option Razr M has a micro sd slot takes up to 32 G
They both have NFC
Nexus camera is 5 mega pixel Razr M 8 , but review says both have mediocre picture taken.
Nexus verizion i think have jelly bean now (not sure) Razr M Motorola promises jelly bean before the end of the year.
Compare them they are both $99 bucks on Verizon website.

I know BestBuy was selling the Verizon Nexus for free with new/renewed contract for a while there. Looking at their website now though, it looks like it is back to $99. If you could get the Nexus for free, I think that would be the way to go vs the Razr M.
I wouldn't have a clue about American deals or providers as I live in the UK, although I have been contemplating upgrading my nexus s to the galaxy nexus however it's put me off as I've heard a lot of reports of it being laggy and the camera is crappy so you don't really want to be paying £300+ for a phone with sub par features. I found the retina display underwhelming until I finally saw a 3gs and realized how big of a jump it was for iPhone users. Most of the higher end android phones were already using high density displays so the advantage was minimalized.
As for the Nexus, its plenty fast (especially with JB) and the screen is quite high def as well (people talk about the screen tech but I cant see it, pixel density is too high).
And the features are night and day. Apple gives you a basic platform and lets you buy into advanced features. Android, from the beginning really packed those features in. Voice actions, maps and navigation, notification system have all been there for years and are quite mature.

Compare the Operating Systems. Nowadays I think it's not mainly a hardware question, but price and software. Look at both of them and decide which work flow / features cater more to your need. Personally, I would go for the Galaxy Nexus with Android. My workflow with android is much more fluid than with iOS.
And if you aren't frightened of flashing your phone to get new features, more power etc, then Android is a natural choice.
PS: And on another note, I wouldn't support a company behaving like Apple right now.
Come on....don't buy an iPhone

In my private life there are those who have an s2 and are happy with it and do not want to get a new android version because "then everything is new and I don't want to explore my smartphone"
Then there are the Applers. I do not think I have to add informations about them.
And last but not least there are those who always buy a new Samsung and think they are the best now because they have the best smartphone on market.
And every group tells me, that I am stupid because I tell them valid arguments to prove that their smartphones are just not as "cool" or "that much of a intelligent piece of work" as they think and that they are facing several security lags if they don't listen to me. But ....
Do you have friends like me or are my friends the exception?

Well, if you're telling someone that what they have is just not as "cool" or "that much of a intelligent piece of work" than yours, it's natural to have some fight back, right?
Anyway, I don't see the point of this thread.
I don't compare the devices of my friends with mine. They tell me how great theirs is and I just give them QN cooldown by telling that its nothing special or that its a standard for Google since ancient times

You are fortunate that this is one of the biggest problems in your day. Consider yourself lucky and enjoy your device.
Haha I kind of know what you mean. A lot of people think the iPhone is the best phone out there, probably because its name is basically "Phone" and subliminally says "perfection". Would you rather buy something called iPhone or Ace or Thunderbolt or Nexus?
And it doesn't help that "everyone" has an iPhone, and because they just got it they have to show it off or put it in some $100 case. I remember a time where owning an iPhone meant you were on the wealthy side, but now it seems everyone and their poorer brother has one. Actually, both on and off contract the Galaxy Nexus costs more than the iPhone 4. Used the Galaxy Nexus fetches about $200, more pre Nexus 4. I got a used-but-crackless iPhone 4 in late November for $180. And we all I know iPhone 4 has been free on contract for a while now whereas the Nexus was I think $50 before Verizon ditched it, not sure about other carriers.

I have two groups of friends: the ones who have bought Nexus because I told them to and the ones I don't talk about phones with.

Yeah, but to argue with iPhone owners is like talking to a wall. They know you're right and in the depth of their hearts they see your point, but iPhone isn't just a Phone. If you buy an iPhone you're a part of something big. It's like a religion. They doesn't care if you prove them points. It's a matter of believing something or not.

Stop trying to prove or explain them arguments. The lack of a non Nexus phone will show up anyway and then you can put a smirk on your face. Trying to show off and explain features and **** is similar to an Apple user showing his iDevice. We buy our **** for ourselves anyway and if someone's happy with their device, so be it.

I quite enjoy being part of the relitely exclusive 'nexus club' iv seen a few in the wild which random people own but none of my mates have one. I must admit being part of xda does make me take more notice of what people own. Those closest to me own, 2 sgs 2, 1 iphone, 2 sgs 3, 1 dhd. I had the first android out of all of them and they saw it was a superior OS and the dhd came next followed by the 2 sgs2 (both still on ginger bread even now lol) then the iPhone and then the 2 sgs 3. None of which are rooted etc but I know owning a nexus is special where as the rest don't really give two ****s and are happy as they are

I have these group of friends: the ones that own a bullcrap Android Phone like the gio (of course without custom ROMs), the Apple fanboys and the ones that dont give a f about smartphones. Actually my Apple fanboy friends are nice and are not always saying Apple is the best (for example they use PCs instead of Macs, And most of them just have old gen iPods). Here in Portugal not many people have a phone as good has the Nexus (most of those have a stable life and job). When my friends saw the Nexus for the first time they asked "is that a s3?" And I just say no and have the secret wish of killing them .

It's always funny when my friends are bragging about their new Samsung Galaxy S3 (Some of them not running Jelly Bean yet)
And then I show them my Galaxy Nexus, the first they as is, what brand is your phone? And I answer "Samsung and Google", check the battery cover. LOL. They don't understand a **** because they bought the SG3 as the holy grial.
And then I show them photosphere (It always work) and my android version 4.2.1
They really don't understand what's going on. And when I tell them the price is under 400USD unlocked they go mad.

Correction: The Next Big Thing
Now you get a story of my daily life to show you why it's a pain in the a**.
A friend of mine asked me a couple of month(around end of September/October) ago which phone she should buy. I told her to buy the Nexus 4, because it is stand of art and she would get the updates earlier than nearly all other androidusers and so the security is much higher (one of her strongest wishes for a new phone). She just answered "but it's from LG. I don't buy phones from LG."
I told her that LG produced it but Google designed and developed it.
Her answer "Yeah but on the cover there is the LG- Logo. What will the people think about me? "
After that I just got my head explode and asked why she is interested in the opinion about others. Further I explained:" If the others don't know that your phone is the best on the market, then they are the stupid ones. So f*** on their opinion "
Friend: " Yeah but they do not know that it is the best one. So where is the point in buying it?"
I told her to never ask me again.....

But aren't you sort of doing the same thing she did by getting upset because she didn't understand your point of view? Enjoy your phone and let her enjoy what she ultimately ends up getting. You don't have a phone for the same purpose she does. Besides, if it weren't for Apple, there wouldn't be the drive from Google to make a better phone and you wouldn't have a nexus to be proud of.
I wouldn't buy the lg n4 either as its no better than the galaxy nexus other than better performance with a handful of games an yes so what if it gets quicker updates so does the gnex an I hardly use stock anyway.

I can upgrade 2/14 and there is a few phones.
I'm looking at the Note 2 and SG3 as my top two right now though.
The only thing that concerns me is the SG3 is already almost a year old, and the 4 is coming sometime this year.
Does anyone have any news on when the SG4 would be available? I hear all types of rumors of first quarter. What do you guys think?
We won't know, just wait until announced if you want the s4.

Apparently android "k" version is going to be released this year
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...for-key-lime-pie-the-next-version-of-android/
They are sending out updates at the cyclic rate. Android 5.0 already? Gingerbread was only 2 years ago.
I definitely won't be going HTC anymore.

Arent there rumors saying it will be announced on april? If so, it will probably released by june at the latest.
If you think that's too long, I'd probably go with Note 2. Samsung has been good with updates with their latest phones unlike htc.

iPhone 5.
My update is coming up 3/2. I'm in the same thinking as you, Note 2 or GS3 or wait for GS4. I'm thinking I'm just going to wait the extra month or two for the GS4. I've dealt with this outdated thing this long I think I can hold out another little longer to get a brand new released phone.
Don't get GS3 or GN2. Wait for a phone with a tegra 4 gpu/cpu 2!!! It's better than the one in the vita. It would be worth it

I'm actually pretty happy with my inc2. With aerovans version of cm10 and his v14 kernel this phone is smooth and fast. Although 4g would be nice.

My upgrade is coming sometime soon, but I'm with you on this one.
Wanting a Nexus...but we all know how that will work out on Verizon.
Droid Razr HD looks really really really nice, but it is very locked down, and not much development on it.
Maybe the rumored Motorola X-phone will be our upgrade? I'm holding out until something good pops up.
Get the s3 you won't regret it.

Going forward, the aosp fans will probably want to get whatever flagship moto phone is out cuz its closest to stock android and usually aosp runs well on it
Aosp on Samsung phones usually gets pretty good but there always seems to be a deal breaker with some major feature or so so batt life

Even though I've never used an S3, they are so wildly popular that you are bound to see good ROM support for many months to come. I feel this is what plagues the DINC2, since so many have become fed up with HTC (& Verizon) and moved on to other phones. The remaining devs do great work though!:highfive:
I've been using a Verizon Galaxy S3 (Verizon is dual core vs everyone else getting a quad core) as my work phone. Running an AOSP rom I'm very happy with it. My sister just upgraded from an iPhone 4 and LOVES her new stock Sprint GS3.
Personally I'm tired of being a flashaholic and just ordered a Lumia 822 Windows phone to replace the Incredible. I wasn't looking to shell out cash for a new phone and it's got the same processor as the VZ GS3. I figure I run Windows at home, own an Xbox, and support Windows at work so an iPhone was out.
I've got till june for my update. I think I might be one of the very last of the inc2 users by then.
I'm probably the only person that went from a Dinc 2 to an SGS3 back to a Dinc 2.
I liked the SGS3. The ROMS are pretty good although AOSP roms were lacking a bit back when I used them. I was kind of forced to sell my SGS3 as I needed to pay off some expenses so I went back to the Dinc 2.
Looking back, I don't really miss the SGS3 that much. Sure, in pretty much every way it's a better phone and LTE is nice. I did get adjusted to the 4.7in screen and the overall size of the device, but I really do like the Dinc 2 form factor a lot better.
Whatever my next phone is, I'll try to talk myself out of getting something the size of the SGS3. I really hope a new 4.3in phone, or something around that, comes out on Verizon. There's the HTC M4, but I wonder if it will ever see the light of day on Verizon. I wish Verizon would sell the flagship HTC phones and not altered models.
I'll probably use the Dinc 2 until it breaks or I can't get a hold of a good looking stable rom. I'm going to stick with flagship phones from now on though.

This has been my concern as well, especially with the newer smartphones. I kinda like the pocket-size of the dinc2. Seems like everything is getting bigger instead of focusing on the real need. BATTERY LIFE.
