Battery issue ! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok I know that ppl answer this already but why is my android system so high and kills my battery bad and makes the phone really hot ?

Are you on stock or custom rom?
message brought to u by my JellyBombed GalaxyS3

Custom Rom on FreeGS3 which is clark44 Rom
Sent from my SPH-L710

do you have gps, wifi, or any unused radio running? Is your phone's data set to cdma or cdma/4g/lte? This setting needs to remain on cdma only if your not using 4g. It will constantly look for 4g, same for wifi. If its none of this then you may have an app running all the time or a widget thats suckin your battery. Staying signed into some apps drain your battery really quickly.
message brought to u by my JellyBombed GalaxyS3

Well I got every thing else off but I have the 4g were it just looks for a signal because I use it but every thing else is off ?

One thing that everyone has been mentioning is that there is a file in your \system\bin directory titled gsiff_daemon. If you're running a root explorer app (I use ES File Explorer which has been given write access to the root directory), find the file and rename it to gsiff_daemon.bak. The other thing is that there is an issue where one of the two processor cores doesn't react properly and I believe that freeza has a flashable zip to fix this.
If you're running the latest version of FreeGS3, then this fix should already be baked in the ROM. Try re-naming the file and see if that helps you any.

Another question, why are you saying that it is killing your battery.....from the picture you posted it shows you have only used 20% in just about 6 hours.......has the phone been off/in sleep mode for most of that time???

[Q] MildWild V-3.5 - wifi scan interval

hi!
i'm using the mildwild rom since a week now and very happy with it. there's just one thing that's really annoying. i think it's because of the first tweak listed in the description of the rom
*Battery saving by reducing wifi scan interval etc
since i moved from oxygen to mildwild, every day i come home i've to manually search for my home network to get signed in. is there a way to switch off that particular tweak? i was fine with the battery life of oxygen so i don't mind if the system searches for networks more often.
thanks, kopi
I recommend to write the dev a PM because I am pretty sure you won't find any option for that in settings.

Anyone else flash this on an AT&T (not rodgers) 957? (Not 957R)
Just did, it comes up, but is amazingly slowwwwwww.
Curious if anyone is seeing the same behavior...
Edit: going back to the stock boot.img did away with that problem. Appears to be related to OC kernel?
UPDATE: reflashed the "1944mhz" Da_G kernel to the boot partition (untar'ed the ODIN tar, dd'ed boot.img to blk0p8) and no slowness was observed, set to 1.72ghz, lets see what 200mhz buys me -- hopefully not a crash :-D

Mine is running fine. Better than before actually.
Broadband APN got me on LTE also. PTA didn't work. I think that one only works with phones?
Either way, I'm getting my usual ~25mbit speeds on AT&T LTE's network, so that's a good sign
Seems this ROM is a little faster, but that's based only on software install times from the play store, which is the most intensive thing I've done so far.
Looks like less lag on storage access, maybe.

I don't think the hardware should matter here, though.
I'll try the OC kernel as included in the .zip again in a little bit

GPS working for anyone? It appears non-functional here in Texas, hasn't locked in 30 minutes and the "GPS Status" market app shows no sats locked in.
Is there possibly some config that needs to get changed to make it realize it's not in Canada anymore any should look for other birds? or something or that sort?
GPS was really solid on the stock image.
I'll try to troubleshoot but right now just curious if it's just me or all us
UPDATE: Magically started working while poking around trying to see why it may be broken. Maybe the GPS receiver just needed a lot of convincing it's in Texas now?
The rogers image has the debug level at 3, ATT at 5 (system/etc/gps.conf) -- Not that we really need that level of debug for normal use, but just another diff between ATT and rogers to note -- sure is less chatty in logcat that way
If you're having trouble getting a lock, might just be best to leave GPS on overnight and let it figure out its parameters.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Got to work, about 8 miles from my home. Tab now has no clue where it is an is using network (cell tower) location only. GPS is not receiving fixes. logcat shows the location service is making successful RPC calls to libloc, and the GPS hardware is trying, but isn't getting a real fix. Let it sit for an hour trying to get a fix, nothing. reflashed stock AT&T ROM, boot, instant fix to 20 meters.
Got back home, ATT image found it's position ~8 miles away in <1 min
So to be more specific about the "test" conditions, I usually turn GPS on only when I intend to use it, sometimes leaving it off for a day or two... This always presents a bit of a challenge for the GPS to re-lock with it's current parameters (GPS parameters drift, and are updated daily via the internet, aka AGPS). An especially good test of GPS functionality is to move more than a few miles with GPS powered down, so it has to essentially "re-fix". Seems whatever is different in the ATT image makes this process faster?
Any suggestions on what to look at? I don't know much about how GPS works on Android, but I'd guess this would be pretty easy to remedy if I knew what to hack at. It doesn't seem to be a delta in config files (there's not exactly much of those, regardless) so I'm suspecting something in a library or jar (ie: the android framework) -- you guys think the delta might be in something released by samsung? I can grab both the platform sources (957 and 957R) and compare, if I can find where some of the GPS code is (there's a LOT of code there lol!) .. I'd kinda like to learn more about android GPS anyways!

what that means (I assume you are getting this error message in Kies) is that there is not enough free space on your desktop computer. All you have to do is move some files off your C drive to free up some space. Usually the error message will tell you something about how much free space you need (something like 3000 MB of space needed...etc..).
If you free up some space on your computer it should run just fine.

I think it is just during the initial upgrade. I let me phone do it's thing for about 10 minutes after upgrading and it seemed to clear up the lag. But I "think" I still sense a little bit of lag. It does not feel as smooth as the previous stock ROM.
It also could be that I rooted my previous stock ROM and did not unroot prior to the update, nor did I reset to factory defaults. Not sure if that had any effect on the lag.
laggy yes well for me ot is...and ciq is **** yes tmo "only" use thats info but ciq keeps the resr on their server.all it tajes is one hacker and boom the whold world knows everything u dont want them to know
I had some serious lag after I installed ICS, so I did a factory reset and everything seems to be working ok. ICS doesn't seem to be as fast as GB in going into Landscape mode, but I like the ui improvements.
My problem is "Touch Key Light Duration". Seems to be a problem with the little bit I googled. I can set it the duration to "Always On, but it has a mind of it's own. Somethings will turn off the light; have to go back into the settings to reset the light on.
That's very strange. As soon as I upgraded the performance upgrade became apparent within seconds. I had some lag as it first booted up but its working flawlessly. I read somewhere that the qualcomm chip patch implemented in UVLDE is key in the "smoothness" of ics. Don't know about the validity of such claim but hey, it wouldn't hurt to Odin to uvlde stock and then kies/Odin back to stock ics if your problems arise again

3 major questions, help please?

I feel like a nuisance but I post everywhere and I can't seem to get an answer from any community or blog, as in an answer, I mean response haha.
Background, on T-mobile rooted and running PACMan ROM 20.0.1
1. I can't get my Wifi tether to work for free? Everyone says after rooting it should tether for free and not get the message, doesn't seem to work? Have the work-around by using the "Agent Switcher" on Google Chrome, but would still like to know why it won't work.
2. My phone's been stuck on 3G for a very long time. Possibly after I rooted and flashed the ROM, don't remember exactly but I haven't seen the H or 4G in over a month.
3. Super crappy battery life. If I leave my tether on for an hour. I lose 20%+ of my battery(tested it). Everyone's battery seems to get better after the rooting and such.
I try to follow all these steps on the forum and none of them work/remedy my solutions.
Iunno :/

Before you even bother with that, when you're actually using your data i.e. doing the speedtest or stalking that girl on FB, does it switch from 3G to H? Because, rooted ROMs will show 3G until there is enough demand for it to switch to 4G speeds.

No, its still 3G uptop.
Test different modems/radios. The radios determine how your data works and testing different ones could fix your issue and also give different download/upload speeds. Just test each one and see which one works best for you Be sure to flash radios intended only for the T999. Otherwise, you will hard brick your phone.

Stock 4.1.2 (MF1) - What's changed / observations

After a clean ODIN install, some comments on the new MF1:
PROS
+ Multi-window support - works as you'd expect... not sure how useful it will be
+ AllShare Cast toggle added - I actually use ASC so this is useful to me
+ Fixed the bug where waking the phone using the home key would return to the launcher (when using no lockscreen and s-voice disabled)
Neutral
> New gallery UI
> New free-form drawing/painting app
> Group Play now a separate app
Cons
- Maybe just me, but noticeably more UI stutter than the last 4.1.1 (LK4)... curious if others notice this

Buttery smooth on mine. Display still reads LTE on Sasktel.
Largest change for me is findmymobile works now. It wasn't working for me on 4.1.1
I'm on Rogers and it still shows LTE.
Everything is quite smooth so far.
It seems to me the camera is a little snappier than before. Just an illusion or someone else is feeling the same?

Haven't done it myself yet I would guess that CF-root through odin is the way to go. Or mobile odin pro.
Maybe only Bell switched to 4G naming.
New camera scene mode added: "best face". Though it doesn't seem to work all that well IMHO.
And after starting over with another clean install, the animations throughout the OS still seem less smooth than the last 4.1.1. Oh well - back to LK4 for me.

I see you posting in just about any 4.1.2 thread there is and it's been said all over the place : if you're on AT&T and you want to flash a canadian version ROM, then you have to either not flash the modem using Mobile Odin or else, flash the LK3 modem from your old AT&T 4.1.1 ROM afterwards using CWM or TWRP.
Please read carefully before attempting to flash anything on your phone.
Especially if you're not familiar with the process.

Step 2 = Flash a custom zip file that installs Superuser onto the system/apps.
That is it. Very easy.

If you flash the telus firmware you will get the 4g logo instead of the lte logo, this has nothing to do with to carrier.

I flashed the Telus firmware and get the LTE logo when on LTE. When I'm on 3G/HSDPA the 4G logo comes up. This is normal for Telus.

+ Fixed the bug where waking the phone using the home key would return to the launcher (when using no lockscreen and s-voice disabled) About time... this was super annoying
Camera is definitely snappier
I don't notice any lag with UI here.
Overall everything seems fine. It'll be nicer when the devs apply their tweaks and mods.
It seems that people have a hard time rooting phones.

Agreed that's always how I have done it i the past too. Since my last rot, CASUAL was developed, so I thought I'd try it out and found it very basic and easy and with less steps than the root through Odin that noobies sometimes find harder, hence my earlier reply. Now of course if CASUAL causes issues and hangs, Odin flash always works as you suggest.
Gallery changed
I noticed the gallery is different. I kinda like it, except the pics from my external micro SDHC card doesn't show up in there anymore. Is there any way to change that? I haven't figure it out yet...
Thanks!
Nevermind, I backed up all the pictures. Formatted the card, and reloaded it back onto the memory card and it worked after.
