Search is your friend
S-off allows you to write to partitions we can't normally. It will allow you to downgrade your bootloader and stuff like that. It doesn't void your warranty, in fact it helps keep it. Once you have unlocked your bootloader when you lock it again it says relocked, with s-off you can change it back to locked.
Your cid is your region/carrier Id. While your phone is s-on you can only flash ruus from your region/carrier. With s-off you can change to supercid which let's you flash from any region/carrier allowing you to debrand your phone

Just wanted to chime in about this S-off thing
Hi! I am a first time Android user. After reading threads here in XDA for months, I have come to realize that the more I learn, the more I know that I have got more that I can't understand. My HOX has a software number of 1.15.401.1 and I have learned that this software build is a demo/pre-release build which explains why I can't receive OTA updates despite checking for it everyday. I've been in touch with HTC about this but they can't answer me with a straight answer, to the point that they're actually advising me to wait for the update on the first quarter of 2013! Anyway, I am fed up with HTC and decided to take matters on my own(with your help, of course). Anyway, to put it simply, I am asking you on how to install a stock ROM for my phone. How do I know the correct RUU for my phone that I should download(I am in the Philippines)? What are the tools I need to get/download? What are the words I need to type in cmd.exe? Etc. Anyway, some info I know about my phone are these: my phone is S-Off, I have a CID of 11111111, it is unrooted, I never touched on that 'unlock bootloader' thingy on HTDev. Also, I am providing some screenshots from my phone if it can help my my issue. I hope you can help me guys. And if you're going to teach me, feel free treat me like a 5th grader. Thanks!

Yeah, if he has one. IIRC goldcard was only an instrument in rooting branded phones? The error code would mention incorrect CID or something like that.

Goldcard didnt work, it says somthing like no image or wrong image after a bar on right hand side goes up....
also quick question is Reversing CID from CMD is just like 12a456 to 654a21 or is it something else, coz http://hexrev.soaa.me/ gives me some other result.
aka my CID from cmd is
1e41425553442xxxx0058003fd00a5f6 so reverse shuld be
6f5a00df3008500xxxx24435552414e1
and then replace first too with 00
but that site gives me 00a500fd038005xxxx2044535542411e

Ok so your device is SHIP son not ENG which is almost the same just a bit different in how you flash radios etc.
Now after it had been locked again, use AAHK Advanced Ace Hack Kit. The tool can be found in dev section. Let AAHK run its thing. It will complete root in 10 minutes or so. Please READ as much as you can and as many times as possible before rooting. Non English speaking useres find it especially hard and then come back with even a worse problem then before just for the lack of reading and understanding.
Aftet you have used AAHK your device will be rooted, you will have SHIP S-OFF and you can flash any custom ROM you'd like.

I used the HTCDEV unlock to unlock until I found the GoldCard S-OFF method to S-OFF and S-OFF, as we all know > Unlocked bootloader. I used theq86's tool to relock to the original state.
My first question is: what does the "OOW" mean? I have that it means "Out of Warranty" and that it means absolutely nothing.
My second question is: can I downgrade to my original HBOOT? I do not the remember the version, but I'm sure someone out there knows.
My third question: if I downgrade HBOOT, will I lose S-OFF? It's no big deal if I do, I just want to have my GoldCard ready.
Fourth: If I downgrade to the original HBOOT will it still report "LOCKED (OOW)" or will it just say "LOCKED" and does that have any benefit over "LOCKED (OOW)" (I have heard that it does when sending the phone back to HTC.
I simply want my phone to look as stock as possible (with the exception of my ROM, which can easily be stocked) in case it needs to be sent to HTC.

It is not confirmed, but it seems to be Out Of Warranty because if you flash this bootloader HTC will reject warranty
My second question is: can I downgrade to my original HBOOT? I do not the remember the version, but I'm sure someone out there knows.
Yes, you can. Use my tool again and choose the third option "superversion"
Afterwards flash a STOCK RUU and hboot will be downgraded as well.
My third question: if I downgrade HBOOT, will I lose S-OFF? It's no big deal if I do, I just want to have my GoldCard ready.
I don't know, but S-OFFing again is no problem if it really goes away.
Fourth: If I downgrade to the original HBOOT will it still report "LOCKED (OOW)" or will it just say "LOCKED" and does that have any benefit over "LOCKED (OOW)" (I have heard that it does when sending the phone back to HTC.
If you downgrade HBOOT it will neither show LOCKED, RELOCKED or UNLOCKED because the standard hboots do not check this.

10 chars. my answers in red.
When you say to flash a stock RUU do you mean one of the ones from HTC Dev or elsewhere? Can you provide a link. If it would help, I have a marvelc with Virgin Mobile US.
In the dev section there is a thread where many many stock rom RUUs are. so take a look at there. it's one of the sticky posts.
To downgrade your bootloader, since your s-off just take the ruu with the bootloader of your choice. Extract the rom.zip. open it up and you will find a file called bootloader or hboot or something to that effect. Take that file and the android update.txt file. Zip them both up and rename it pg76img.zip
Put it in the root if your sdcard and boot into hboot. The phone will find the update and just flash it. Done
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
Is there a specific ROM I should be running? Using simonsimon34's CM7 port and with my PC running Windows 8 Consumer Preview (with HTC Drivers) I am told that the RUU utility is unable to find the Android phone.
Do I need a ROM with HTC Sync?
Which method are you trying?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
I'm just trying to run the RUU.exe.
EDIT: I installed Vista and so far it appears to work. I'm going to wait until later to actually go all the way through. (I just went far enough for it to verify my "PDA phone".)

Hi guys,
I've got an S-OFF Tegra 3 HTC One X and want to install CWM recovery and all that other good stuff.
I understand that I don't need to go through the HTCDev unlock process to flash CWM, is that correct?

Sorry if I'm beeing a complete noob now, but could it be that HTC logger. The one that logs all your activity? I know something like that has been implemented in earlier HTC phones, I think android phones in general. I also think if it's activated and actually in your rom depends on the carrier.

Firstly, do you have the HTC One X (Endeavor) or the HTC One XL / at&t One X (Evita)?
Secondly, you need to provide way more information than that. Why can't you get s-off? What have you tried? What happened when you tried? What ROM is installed? What are your bootloader details? Which recovery is installed? You need to answer all questions, be as detailed and specific as possible, and provide any other information that might be relevant.

Why you need S-OFF? YOU can't use all the advantage of S-OFF We have few developers and they work to give as KitKat and now Lolipop what more you want you have multiRom wich give you the posibility to have more then one rom you have kernel flasher wich give posipility to install roms and kernels without PC, why you need S-OFF?
