Hey guys,
I've had this phone a little over a month now and it's been giving me issues with SMS. Basically they aren't being retrieved automatically, and require me to either reboot the phone or dial a call (?) in order to receive them. I have tried different radios and ROMs with no result; the same thing always happens. What could this be? FYI tried PRL/profile updates a trillion times.

Anyone?

Are you stock or Rom? Have you checked auto retrieval is set on settings? Check also in roaming to be sure

I have been on stock as well as multiple roms. Also the auto-retrieval is only for MMS but is checked anyway.

Nobody has an answer to this? I seriously doubt this could be a hardware issue considering the rest of the modem functions are working (almost) flawlessly.

Are there any working Text-to-Speech apps out yet for ICS?
Also, is there a way to only receive notifications from certain apps ONLY when a wifi connection is on? I want to save my data.
I don't see why existing TTS engines wouldn't work - I use SVOX classic on ICS, just as I did on Gingerbread.
It's only a free trial and the comments said it didn't work on ics. I'll keep searching

Received answer on wifi question. Anyone regarding the TTS? I'm wondering if I should move this question to the development thread..

Any updates on when TTS will be available for ICS? I can't find anything on it.

Google has had TTS built in for a long time. What are you trying to do... just change the voice?

Go into data usage, look at your apps that use most data an click on it. Select a limit for data usage an click restrict data. Great feature of ICS

I'm trying to have my texts read out loud to me when they come in but it doesn't work. It only works when I turn "talk back" on but then my phone speaks everything, lol.

Download Vlingo from the market. Put it in in car mode. Turn on safe reader. It'll stay on now until you turn it off. Your prayers have been answered.

In car mode is on and safe reader is on but it still won't read out loud automatically... Please help!!! Lol.. Do I have to disable ringtone or something? My default messaging application is Handcart if that makes a difference.

Does anyone else successfully use it on their gnex? I sign in, and then once I click on any of the options or features in the app, it kicks me out to the login screen.

Works fine here on both stock 4.0.2 and AOKP build 19.
What the heck. I'm stock. 4.0.2

Anyone have any ideas? I'm completely stock. I'm also finding that when I try to update Facebook status with fb app...it tells me it cannot update right now and to try again later. Every time.

I just tried to send my buddy a pic while talking to him, and it wouldn't send until we hung up. Plain text went through just fine. Anyone else have this issue?

I think most phones tend to disable the use of your mobile internet during a call, my S3 does. It's not a fault. It's just that pictures need to be uploaded before they can be received.
Thanks, I would have sworn I have done it before.

With AT&T you should still be able to use your mobile data while on a call. Verizon and sprint did not allow it (CDMA limitation) LTE is supposed to fix that issue for verizon and sprint though I believe. I'll see if I can try it on my ion sometime.
Works on At&t while in call. At&t has always allowed this.

Hmmm. Doesn't work for me for some reason. I plan on reflashing again this weekend, maybe that will fix it, and some other minor issues I have.

It could simply be a phone setting. on my i777 when I'm sending anything and then get or make a call I get a data error until I hang up I never bothered trying to work it out its not a problem I see often as i don't try to call and text

Galaxy S3 rooted, need Wi-Fi tethering advice
I'm a new & proud owner of this phone, and thanks to advice found on this website, owner of a rooted S3 in less than 30 minutes. But I've been trying all the suggestions for setting up a Wi-Fi tether to little avail.
I just downloaded & installed the mod version that was the last suggestion made. It installed fine, and actually shows up as a SSID but I cannot get my laptop or my old EVO 4G phone to actually connect to it. I left the settings on default, other than changing the password of course.
Any suggestions or hints?
Lee
Link that I have posted, still working and my S3 is working with tether app. I have been using my laptop and other devicec without any issue.

Hello
I've been trying to update several apps here and for some reason it is not working.
This started to happen after I saw the upgrade notice for Android 4.3, which I haven't been able to install either.

try to clear the data/cache of the play store and reboot after that.
Didn't work

I don't think there is a known fix for this that works for everyone. Actually it is possibly an issue on Google's end. http://productforums.google.com/d/msg/mobile/2UKJ7ZyIav0/jHQD4F7QAhAJ <-- that thread has quite a few things you could try, as well as more links to look at.
Perfect
And it was surprisingly easy to fix, just remove, and readd the Google account.
I feel dumb.
