[Q] Optimus Me EXT4 support - LG Optimus Me P350

Just wondering, can I format the internal filesystem into ext4?

we can format p350 from Yaffs to EXT4. Need to create scripts for that to format our all mtd to ext4. Nexus s use ext4 but it can be only done on gb froyo don't have support for that.
If anyone want to test and don't worry about brick there phone then i can create script to format p350 to ext4. there 50% chance of brick and 50% work

Generally I would take the jump, but this is my only device so if I brick it, I would regret it so much... My new device is coming soon, so until then...

How to tell what filesystem?

Hi all, I just used CW Recovery to make a 1gb extra partition but don't know which version ext it made. Can someone provide me with some code to write in my terminal to line up my sd-card partition. Thanks.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Afaik cwm makes ext2 by default, check with 'mount' from terminal, look for sd-ext and if will say ext2/3/4 next to it.
Thanks man.
It seems that the cvm provided in the [Nightly]CM7 thread made ext4 filesystem, atleast that's what I have but it could be the data2ext mod I flashed that converted the ext2 to ext4, I don't know.
More chance that the data2ext mod formated your partition with ext4

I'm currently on ext 3 can i just go to ext 4

I'm currently on ext 3 can i just go to ext 4? The rom im on is rcmix I haven't updated for ages I want to put a new rom on but everything appears to be on ext4 now including new recoveries? I'm confused and don't want to ruin my phone can someone help please?

Yes. You can go from EXT3 to EXT4 any time.
The ROM that you install, should support EXT4.
And for recovery, i would recommend you use 4EXT Recovery. It has options for EXT3 <-> EXT4 conversions.
i hear ext4 has a backward compatibility with ext3, so there shouldn't be any problem switching

[Q] Converting from ext4 to ext2

Might be a stupid question.
Well here's the deal i partitioned my sd card to ext4 (i think i'm not sure how i can find it out if it is ext3 or ext4). I was reading that ext2 was faster and quite better than ext3 or ext4 so i was thinking is there any easy way to deconvert from ext4 to ext2. What is the best way to do this preferably without loosing any data from sd card or the partition?
And how can i find out easily what partition my sdcard is ext3 or ext4?
Im not sure where you get that information but devs wouldn't recommend EXT4 partition if its gonna slowdown the performance of their roms.
I bet gparted can tell what type of ext partition you have and I bet there are other ways to find out... You can flash 4Ext Recovery and that will show you those information as well.
via xda app
4ext recovery converts partitions but only between ext3 and ext4 without data loss. Al though I am scratching my head, where did you read that ext2 is faster than others?
Ext4 has more features than Ext3 and Ext2, main advantage is journaling which gives improved performance and reliability. The only downside with ext4(also ext3) is that the SD Card wears out faster since it can perform more read/write activities. If I was you I would keep things the way they are.

I know but I believe it would be able to tell what type of Ext partition the sd card has

I saw something about it on androidforums.com and somewhere else i can't remember where.
There few people said that after going from ext2 to ext3-4 the rom that they had became a little laggy and it said also that some kernel dev said to use ext2 rather than ext3-4.
Also said the same thing you deadlyboss01 said about the sd card wearing out sooner.
Is it maybe silly to use ext2 if i already have ext4?
And if i set up 4ext recovery can i restore nand backups from cwm?

I believe it can since 4ext recovery is based on cwm but better post the question on the 4ext thread to get an accurate answer. Sorry im not that sure.

It seem that you are quite adamant. Have you personally experienced these lags? Also, I had the impression that kernel devs focused more on ext3/ext4. Nevermind, CWM is indeed compatible with 4ext recovery as Stankyou said.
No i personally have not had these lags but it seems that i'm just going to stick to 4ext and try to flash the 4ext recovery and check that out
Thanks to this thread(and others), i got some balls and knowledge. And i've installed, 4eXT Touch Recovery and then converted my ext3 partition to ext4 with 4eXT, way to easy. Needless to say, that Recovery is awesome! Thanks People! !
I also read this on ext2 being better and was confused, some guy had a htc incredible s and experienced lag with ext4 and not on ext2.
Well, i also see alot of devs using ext4 and now this thread... think this is quite simple, Use ext4 if the rom supports it.

[Q][DISCUSS][POLL] Best fs format for link2sd?

I was just curious as to what everyone thought would be the best file system to use for the 2nd partition for link2sd. I did some light searching and didn't really find any answers specific to Xperia Play (or even in general). From my understanding stock firmware on Xperia Play does not support ext4, so I would assume ext3 would be the best chose, but I just wanted to get some other's opinions.
Options for those who don't know and don't wanna search are ext2, ext3, ext4 or FAT32.
I like ext4, it's like Windows' NTFS. Fast mounting and protects against file corruption after a crash/sudden shut down. Ext2 is the simplest, and some say the fastest because of that, though it doesn't protect against corruption. I'd say worst is FAT32 for the 2nd partition, seeing as it wouldn't mount any more quickly than the 1st partition would.
I use ext3

I agree with using ext4, but I was under the impression that default firmware on xperia play doesn't support it...?
EDIT: I tried ext4 and it was unable to mount. ext3 however worked fine.

My is stock ROM 2.3.4 with doomkernel, link2sd using ext4 and it's working.
one thing is really annoying me, I moved most of apk/lib/dex to 2nd partition & it saved 150MB from ROM space
But every time i reboot phone, it takes like 10min to enter home page, when it was app2sd, it only takes 2min
my sd card is samsung 32g c10
1 FAT32 Partition 29gb
1 EXT4 Partition 2gb
1 SWAP Partition 256mb
i am using ext2 on my x10 and xplay
I was using FAT32 and then it just stopped mounting randomly. Would i be able to change the type of the partition whilst keeping everything in tact?

Yh i dont know to much about it either to be honest. Im guessing if u have an ext3 partition and u want to convert it to ext4 u will have to backup the ext3 partition then convert it to ext4 then restore the backup if that makes sense lol.
What r ya trying to do may i ask?

am trying to get the phone to run as well as it can but since i upgraded from WildsMild 5.1 to 5.2 & put INT2EXT+ on its randomly rebooting so want it stable thats all lol

so thank you for your help i'll try converting EXT3 to 4 i thought thats what i might be able to do but the troulbe is when you know nowt youve got to hassle people all the time
All means the same you can't have both the file systems

ok i understands what your saying but thats what is saying on the phone, i think i'll take it out put it in the pc then remormat the lot then start again lol
Before flashing int2ext script u must delete any a2sd scripts out of the rom. So on ur computer, open the rom and go to
System/etc/init.d
And remove any a2sd script then when u flash the rom in recovery, flash the int2ext script staight after. It should work perfect on that rom coz its cm7 based

bro its like fat32 and ntfs of windows....
like its asking
whether to convert fat32 tp ntfs
wipe ntfs
convert to ntfs and wipe it
you cant switch to a higher file system without backing up your data
in other words it will format fat32 to none and write ntfs to it if you still have doubts i can elaborate further...
i think it getting a bit complecated now so how do i reformat all patitons then just start again might be the way forward for me lol

Im pretty sure u can just do a nandroid backup, save the backup on ur computer then in recovery repartition ur sdcard and choose ext4 then put nandroid backup on ur sdcard then restore.
Reason being is that 4ext recovery control (the app) doesnt save it as ext3 or ext4, it saves it as sd-ext and sd-ext2. So aslong as there's a partition is on ur sdcard it should restore.
