A quick question.
Is there any way to network unlock the xperia play manually, I mean without paying for an unlock code. I've searched google & xda a lot but can't find much on the topic. (This likely means that it can't be done, I know)
But I ask anyway cause I sim unlocked my sister's Galaxy Ace & that was sooo easy, I'm just surprised that it can't be done on the xperia play.
/noob.
All responses appreciated!
No there isn't, contact your network they may do it for free... Unlocking your bootloader also unlocks your sim.

Unlocking your bootloader does not unlock your sim, that's nonsense.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.
Much appreciated.
I heard that it doesn't unlock the sim, I read up on it before posting here cause I'd seen some people posting that it unlocked the sim as well.

No it does not unlock your sim, You obviously don't know what you're talking about.
unlocking bootloader doesnt mean unlocked sim butt yes my sim was unlocked when i unlocked my bootloader through through ominus, it came for free as an extra
Those who say it does, wanna cite a source? Rather than just saying "it does"
Sorry for the confusion, the paid method of unlocking your bootloader does unlock your sim lock - which is why i suggested it(wasn't telling you something irrelevant) , the free method via the sony website does not.
EDIT- http://unlock-bootloader.com/ This websites owned by one of the two people who do unlock bootloader and it says under bootloader unlock it's included with the sim unlock.

Ah I see, thanks.
How do these guys do it? Do they have some kind of hardware tools or inside track? It's just weird to me that we can't unlock the sim ourselves when you can do nearly everything else with phones these days!
They use a software called SEtool or omnius, they have to pay for credits(which are only sold in bundles and so would be wasteful and expensive for somebody unlocking just their bootloader) to use the software which is why they charge you the equivalent- they dont make anything or make little from offering the service.
if it's just sim unlock and you don't want to unlock bootloader and fastboot then you can try here if your phone is At&t :http://sim-unlock.net/sim-lock/99/Unlock_by_code_any_Sony_Ericsson_network_AT&T_USA/
The cost is around $6 USD

That's fair enough. But you paid to get your bootloader unlocked right?
I see how you can easily make the correlation.
But as Nabeel alluded to:

I want to reove sim lock !
The only option is to use setools which is a paid service, this will unlock SIM card and also unlock bootloader without losing drm etc, however the bootloader can be relocked.
xda member jinx13 offers this via remote access, search his name in search bar.

Check the Internet for one of the SIM unlock services for your area. For example in Canada I can get a Xperia Arc unlocked(allows you to use any provider) for $8.
If none are available in your area(for provider) then maybe you will need the advise above and unlock the BL....for bootloader I used Alejandrissimo

Just use Omnius then.
In many countries this service is available in local shops that sell and repair mobile phones for small price. Since you dont know english that well you should consider that instead of using google and xda to find it...
This thread is old, but maybe someone still searching for solution... here it is:

unlock code is just for the network and that is with att, bootloader is with sony. this may take time just like with the x10 which sony claims that the bootloader cannot be unlocked (well devs got it uunlocked) it was unlocked but its a dead phone that time since xperia arc was already selling like pancakes
sony is playing with us? Oh god...
Sony is the one who locked the boot per request of ATT. Now once ATT drop this device I am sure Sony will unlock it for us. Now the sim unlock is a different story as you will have to fight ATT to do that one and with new rules this will only be harder to do from here out.
I just wish they drop the phone asap so that to get bootloader unlock...
that's it.

I requested SIM unlock from att under the guise i was traveling abroad. Got the code in less than a week. Now, understand that it's made no difference in how the phone operates, but they did unlock it.

Im pretty sure ATT has already dropped the phone.

So maybe we could try writing sony reminding them that the Ion is no longer sold at ATT?!?
Xperia LT28at running BlackZax'7 JB. 211
Yes it has long been dropped but to be honest it does not look like we will ever have a unlock for any of the locked devices.
you could merge this thread with this other

I would like to know how... i requested my unlock code and when i received it.. i tried five times with no unlock... after calling att after each attempt they just said try again. on my last attempt, they told me my device wasn't eligible for unlock. AFTER.... they had sent me my IMEI specific unlock code. when i requested another code for another ion that i have a few months later. they still show its not able to be unlocked. give me the name of the person who fave you your unlock code. i want to talk with them!!
Hi guys.
I've got one Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S LT18i from Vodafone (Portugal).
So i've checked this tutorial from sony:
unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
But i got my "Bootloader unlock allowed: no"
I've seen one website that we can unlock this, but we must pay for that. I don't whant to spend my money making my android "opensurce"... He should be unlock for customers.
So guys do you have any free solutions for me?
Nope. Gotta pay in your current status.
One of the services that unlock bootloaders did have a free unlocking weekend last year. I don't know if they will do it again.

Hey
My Xperia Arc is from Rogers as well.
I paid to unlock its bootloader.
It was like 10 CAD
FastGSM
Very easy followed instruction.
Hope you feel it's helpful.
Is ther a way to unlock my xperia M from my carrier?
tnx!!!
Sorry, but you can't unlock it yourself, even, when you have root. Mine one had simlock too, only Carrier, where you bought phone can unlock it. I called Orange to remove simlock, and after hour later I got the code, but this thing was really expensive. Why they're locking phones?!
they lock them as an insurance so you have to use their network its all about money as either way you have to pay to get it unlocked from a carrier
