I have compiled the ICS kernel for i927. Would be nice to know if I get someone who could help me to test out this kernel.
Features:
- Remove MMC_CAP_ERASE
- OC to 1.2Ghz
- RAM hack to 833MB
- Optimization thru using Linaro toolchain
If the above works great, I would further enhance on the kernel afterwards.
Personally, I don't like to build a kernel without owning that device. I don't feel comfortable to release things without testing. As Captivate Glide is very similar in hardware configurations as Galaxy R, I would like to build a custom kernel for it, in the same way that I build one for Galaxy R.
As I said, I don't have this device myself but I hope to contribute something to the i927 community. For those interested to test out the kernel, please reply here or drop a PM to me. Thanks.

Still willing tot test! Just let me know what you want me to do exactly. I haven't tested stuff like this for Android before, but I should be tech-savvy enough to pick it up quickly. Just point the way!
All you would likely be doing is telling ardatdat about bugs you find. With his kernels there shouldn't be many. I'll also test ardatdat. Pm with details.

Do we get to choose the OC speed or is it fixed al 1.2 ghz?
Would it compromise battery life??
Thank you for your hard work!!

Stealing RAM from the SYSTEM But not affecting normal operations of the phone.
I have just PM the testing kernel to selected testers. (enewman17; hazard1nc; magicninja; lambgx02; Salaros)
Please flash the zip using normal CWM flash zip procedures. And please remember to make a backup first, such that you could always revert back to the previous one.
Those who don't receive the PM, please be patient, as I need to make sure this kernel boots fine before moving to the next step.
I will further send out kernels to more testers if everything go smooth. Thanks.
what about the /preload deletion to incise swap like nard suggest, can it be implicated stright from the kernel or use that trick when we install the new kernel? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879024

Actually, this method makes use of swapon to use swap partition to increase memory. In Galaxy R, I use ZRAM to do that and auto swapon to ZRAM device to logically, increase the available memory I would definitely add the ZRAM swap features to i927 if my testing kernel works fine
Cool, things are slowly getting going for our Glide! I hope the testing goes well, the sooner we have a good custom kernel, the better!
Though quality is worth waiting for...

When using the swap partition, as long as you have enough space. You could turn it into memory. The concept is the same as pagefile in Windows platform. It is just a virtual memory extension of your phone's memory.

I built your kernel as soon as I forked it. I had no issues with WiFi. You just have to use the modules from the kernel. I changed up the oc also. But that's why its there. For people to use.

okay thanks. Its strange i used the modules and it didnt work. I think it has to do with the .config im using i was messing with settings a while back. Believe it or not usb tether is enabled at this lowest level

CWG's Slim n V4 ROM uses two diff kernel from arco68 GitHub n is not that aggressive designed for none OC n OC respectively.
I have declared that if you want stable no FC go for these.
If you want OC for V4 running at 1.6GHz 24x7....I certify it is stable but the one thing lack is that Neo Instructions integrated in Bionic V2 which drives the quality of the graphics display but the kernel made by CWG is too aggressive of which some users may face BS etc.

BTW, what is BS?
Even in Hybrid 2, many experience lag. Is it because of the kernel or V6 script which has high LMK? I just wanna ensure MOST PEOPLE what the main problem would be.
One more thing, are u using Hybrid 2?
Because i wanna ask you how can i re-supercharge it?
The V6 that Rio put is integrated with init.d as well as build.prop, that's why i do not know how to re-supercharge in this case.
lag?
I been using the Blacknote 2nd Gen since it release, and it is 1st time I flash a custom rom.
its v6 default set to Super UL (125mb ram) which really smooth, but too high so me, so I re-supercharge it into multitasking which is 75mb free ram since I flashed and restore app+data from TB. Everything went smooth.
even 3-4days ram always maintain at 65-80mb ram. quite ok for me.
I also hear in FB galaxy W forum many face lag in blacknote 2nd but not me.
maybe I re-supercharge it? hrm ...
and in the FB galaxy W forum group got developer makes some tweak using latest stock kernel and many use it and commented bring better improvement and stability.

Bro,
How did u re-supercharge it??
Because the V6 in Hybrid is integrated with init.d but not just with build.prop alone.
In the Samsung W group, what did the "developer" did when tweaking the latest stock kernel?
Because in my view, the "developer" DID NOT tweak any kernel but he just replace Hybrid's kernel with stock kernel. That's it.

Compared to stock kernel you might experience higher performance but at a cost. It might include bugs and make the phone unstable. There could be memory leaks which mean you would have to reboot the phone very often to keep it functional, it will begin to lag after a few days of use.
The memory tunings can increase user interface performance but also often at cost of poor multitasking and higher battery drain as Android continuously in the background swaps apps in and out of memory. A general higher battery drain is also normal for many of the kernels or at least used to be half a year ago.
Stick to stock kernel unless you really need the extra performance or try to find a custom kernel with only very small modifications. Overclock and undervolt are two "safe" modifications that does not change the behavior of the kernel, that is as long as it is not overdone. The success rate of undervolt and over clock depend allot on your handset and can differ allot. Some can safely overclock to 1.8Ghz, others can hardly keep it at 1.4Ghz for the old Xperia Arc.
If you have root access, you can install "MinFreeManager" app to manually tune memory parameters, these are reset at reboot of your phone and it is safe to try different values. If you find stock ICS slow, you can increase the memory limits for Hidden, Content and Empty apps to improve user interface experience. It will be at a cost worse multitasking, and could cause higher battery drain if you have too many widgets and services installed to fit in the memory after updating the memory settings.
Thank you so.much for your information

Hi everybody. I cannot understand why this community finally ended developing gb kernels. Yes I know, we like to have latest features, we like to see the number 4 in our build description, but let's be realistic... There's nothing compared to gb in our Arc / s... I have been thinking differently until a month, but now it is impossible to think in another way...
- I go to bed after 18h having 50% of battery...
- With some tweaks I have the same smoothness or MORE than in JB.
- Extreme good RAM usage. Amazing for games
- Gb is the most stable firmware for our device. No reboots, NEVER. a very few fc..
And now think... is there any fw that IN STOCK has all this features? The answer is no...
We have only two kerneles for GB
- DoomKernel v22
- Advanced Stock Kernel (also by DoomLord) v1
I request developers to continue working in kernel development in GB. People still use gb, and u can notice that by entring in the dev section. There still are gb roms and people use them!
Please, don't give up, continue it and we will get the best results in our phone.
Thanks

No, I would request a more powersaving kernel. It is battery-stable enough but I would suggest more and more development. Always more if it is possible.
Okay folks, no fancy graphics or information here. Searching this site will tell you any of the generic information you may be interested in. I am not going to clutter up things any more than I normally do. Which is already enough.
I need to make something very clear here. I'm sure it's just me, but I feel like I need to say it out loud, rather than just leaving it in my source. At least 90% of what I give you is other peoples original work, modified by me to run on whatever device I have. I don't do it to look smart, or be important, I do it 9 times out of 10 because there isn't something already out there. The vast majority of the options I give you are from amazing coders like show-p1948 and faux123. There are random snippets from others too. I just wanted to make that clear. If you ever wanna know exactly who did something I put into a kernel, go look at the source. If I cannot get the original commit, with them as author, they are listed in the comment. If nobody is there but me, I actually did it.
