Hi, everybody!
Because i'm new junior member here, i want to share some tips. If you think this post helpful, just press thanks, ok!
Here are 10 tips before flashing custom rom :
1) Read the rom information and compatibility before downloading, like the base firmware, if your firmware is lower than rom firmware, please upgrade.
2) Recovery can be used for flashing the rom, CWM/Stock. Don't use stock recovery if the rom support only CWM.
3) Kernel used in the rom like kuro kernel and repencis. Is the kernel supports a2sd or init.d and the performance and compatiblity.
4) Features in the rom, like rooted, deodexed, zipalign, a2sd, tweaks, bravia or beats audio engine, 4wayboot, EPM, and the STYLE of the rom.
5) Performance the rom like fast and stable. You can benchmark it with benchmarking tools like AnTuTu Benchmark and feel it yourself.
6) Custom tweaks supported by the rom. If the rom support this, you can manually tweaks the rom, but don't share it WITHOUT PERMISSION by the creator.
7) This is for your phone safety if any malfunction caused after flashed custom rom, BACKING UP your current rom with CWM feature, Nandroid. You can read from this. But, to recovery don't do recovery from CWM Nandroid, because the MD5 sum is'nt same with your new rom. Just follow the step on the link.
8) CWM Recovery must be have. This link to download cwm
9) Wiping data/reset, cache partition, and dalvik-cache is required. Before do this you must follow step 7, because it will remove your apps, and your system data
10) This will be very very very required, the rom ZIP file. Haha! :laugh:That's all i've been shared for you. But, where's my "THANKS" everybody? If you think this helpful for you, just press it! HAHAHA

Re-Introduce Orange Glacier 2.0.0
The reason I created this ROM is NOT TO COMPETE with anyone else, it is mainly for myself. I wanted a light weight ROM that's STABLE and FAST but I also wanted to try something slightly different.
I WON'T BE Updating this ROM unless something is Seriously WRONG with it...
(I WON'T BE taking FEATURE REQUESTS and such, most can be added by yourself from various mods found in the Theme and Apps sub forum )
So here it is: Orange Glacier ?!?!?!?
Why the name:
Because ClockworkMod Recovery (3.0.0.5+) for Gingerbread is colored Orange for EXT 4 partitions and since this ROM uses EXT 4 File System (FS) as its primary FS, I decided to name it this way.
So what is in this Orange Glacier?
1. Completely rebuilt from Stock Image
2. Uses exclusively EXT 4 FS
3. Moved all optional Apps to /data/app partition for easy uninstall (including most Google Apps)
4. Rooted, /system set to RW by default
5. Deodexed, Zip aligned all /system/apps and framework files using ROM kitchen from fellow XDA member.
6. Dalvik memory boosted from default 24MB to 36MB
7. Few CFS tweaks
I want to Thank the following:
TeamSilence for inspiring me to start it all,
Pack for the awesome battery mods,
dsixda for the easy to use ROM kitchen (highly recommended to anyone interested in cooking their own ROM, it CAN'T be easier than what he provided)
Installation:
The File ==> Orange Glacier Version 2.0 <==
WARNING: The INSTALLER WILL ERASE ALL USER DATA AND SYSTEM DATA!!!
Requirement: MUST HAVE CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY 3.0.0.5+
1. Reboot into recovery
2. Wipe Cache Partition
3. Install zip from SDCard
4. Once installation is completed, select Reboot System Now
Note: Upon first reboot may take up to 4~6 mins.
The following pre-installed Apps will need to be updated MANUALLY from Market by searching for their names:
Google Search
Youtube
Google Maps
T-Mobile MyAccount
T-Mobile TV
Qik Video Chat
TwonkyMobile
Google Street
All Built-in Games (Monopoly, NFS etc)
or they can all be easily un-installed because they are NO LONGER System Apps.
History:
[ Version 1.0.2 ] (Froyo Based)
Based on Original Stock MySense 2.0 Release
Critical Kernel Patch:
You MUST Apply this PATCH first In order to upgrade your ROM with future kernel updates from me...(You only need to do this EXACTLY 1 time, then afterwards you may update to my new kernel whenever they are available)
[Kernel Update Instructions]
The File ==> Orange Glacier Version 1.0.2 <==
[ Version 2.0.0 ] (Gingerbread Based)
Based on GB MySense 2.1 Leak Release

There's nothing special about this ROM.. It's mainly stock with the tweaks I mentioned in the OP...
stock is good for my battery i need battery more than fancy animations and all this gingerbread stuff
Sweet! Downloading now. Thanks Faux!
BTW, are there any known bugs/issues Faux?
Everything you have done is so amazing, so everything you do, we would pay special attention~~Tky Faux!!
nothing wrong basically itsstock with a few additions like battery mod and lil visuals here and there and speed up alot i dont feel no lag at all everything works idk bout ffc on qik cause my girl dont have but evrything is good to go
Well, this ROM gives me the best data speeds i have ever had. Unfortunately, every time that i reboot, it erases all of my screens. not sure why and OP says no support for this ROM. So i guess i will flash something else. It pains me to have to give up the data speeds.

He actually stated no support unless something serious is wrong. That seems pretty serious if happening to others as well. I would love to load a "de-bloatwared" stock image with good speed and full functionality. I can't wait to hear more feedback on this one.

just when I thought I was done with froyo forever. thanks faux, i feel OBLIGATED to give this a run.
Welcome to the ROM side of life Faux.
awesome!
Very excited to see faux grow as a dev I support faux's work 100% and cant wait to see future projects. CHEERS ---Team

Hi there guys want to flash this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625816
However im very much a newbie at this (This will be my first flash) and the instruction posted in that thread make no sense to me..
Could someone please give a more thorough guide?
PS: I am rooted.
Put the downloaded rom to your SD Card of your HTC One X
Boot to hboot (bootloader that is) - fastboot, then run this: Boot.img flasher for dummies
Boot to recovery after installing the kernel
Do a full wipe if you are coming from another rom
Install rom and follow Aroma instructions
pretty simple really whats confusing about there guide mate?
Thanks for the help bud! But whats the kernel? And does stock sense that i opened the phone with count as another ROM, and whats aroma? And how do you do a full wipe?
Much Thanks

hehe so many questions..i see if i can help
kernel is the boot.img that is in short what makes the phone tick aka performance
Explanation:
What Is A Kernel?
The central component of most operating systems. Its responsibilities include managing the system’s resources (the communication between hardware and software components) and can provide the lowest-level abstraction layer for resources (especially memory, processors, and I/O devices)
stock sense is just framework and launcher as well. what you are using now is your stock rom. aroma is just an installer program that helps you remove or install mods that rom developers have added to it..makes things easier and simpler for us the users. go here for better explanation
full wipe again it will give you the option in aroma to do that...make sure you backup the rom first before you flash the custom rom

Just When You Thought Your Favourite Dev Is Out Of Ideas... He Comes Up With This
ok so alot are complaining how we can't flash kernel away from the pc among other things (which ill get to later ), (mostly @One-X-master)
so i looked for a way to get around this and found Kexec as the answer.
Wiki said:
In computing, kexec (kernel execution) is a mechanism of the Linux kernel that allows "live" booting of a new kernel "over" the currently running kernel. kexec skips the bootloader stage (hardware initialization phase by the firmware or BIOS) and directly loads the new kernel into memory, where it starts executing immediately. This avoids the long times associated with a full reboot, and can help systems to meet high-availability requirements by minimizing downtime.
Click to collapse
however, with that comes managing online hardware which is somewhat problematic,
thus that prompted few people to come up with an ingenious solution called Kexec-hardboot.
Kexec-hardboot:This works by loading the kernel into memory and force restarting the phone with new kernel.
All of that with some ramdisk tweak allowed me to set a kernel at boot and restart to it,
avoiding having to flash it in the 1st place
Updating the kernel is called flashing..
A Flash is also what precedes Thunder
its also refered to as Lightning, Thus I came up with the name Kernel Lighter
Lighter= To Set Things On Fire/To Ignite (The Kernel)
Thus this is a kernel igniter
I Know, i've got to much time on my hand.
If you have a smart name, please do suggest.
Special Thanks: @Tasssadar: For His N7 Port, which made this port a breeze and for his help in debugging.
@Alex-V: Currently using his kernel as Base Kexec Kernel.

ALL THE STEPS MUST BE FOLLOWED.
Requirements
S-off/Unlocked Bootloader
Android App & Recovery App
Fastboot flash boot Zeus.img
For ZeusKL.v10.img (New Layout) You must first switch to the new layout
Flashing Kernels Though Recovery
Boot Into Recovery
Flash AromaFM-KL.zip
Select Kernel Zip To Flash
Choose Flash Location
Choose Boot.img
Yes/No To Flash Zip (useful for flashing modules)
Reboot
Flashing Kernels Though Android(deprecated)
Start KL Android App
Choose Kernel Zip*
Kernel & Ramdisk
Reboot To Recovery --> Flash Modules
Reboot
* For zips to be listed, they must be placed in /sdcard/modules/
* otherwise click browse and happy hunting
Something Went Wrong:
Let say the phone wouldnt boot during kernel update after using the app,
the best solution would be to go back to stock kernel, look at the recovery flashable zips in Extras section,
If none seem to fit, try another custom kernel
if you still had no luck booting, you should try flashing that kernel through fastboot and see if it makes any difference.
Warning!!
Note: All the zips provided are flashable through both The App & Recovery... but I recommend recovery
BUT DON'T FLASH THE KEXEC (KL.Zeus.img) KERNEL THROUGH THE APP or Recovery,
as it will continuously boot itself over and over and over again.

echo /data/boot/Kernels/Stock/boot.img-zImage>/data/boot/kernel
echo /data/boot/Kernels/Stock/boot.img-ramdisk.gz>/data/boot/ramdisk

this works on both sense 5 and 4+
i had this running for almost a week now on sense 4+
and just moved to sense 5 and thought it will be a good time to release this.
The Stock kernel comes from sense 5 ROM
I know, but back to 4.1.1 is not a solution for me (Sense 5 is the dealbreaker with AOSP ROMs )
Another Question, if i change to AOSP, it will work too? or must we flash (an not realeased) Kexec AOSP kernel? (i ask not for me, i ask for everyone on AOSP with ORD xD )

you dont have to go back to 4.1.1, this will work with sense 5 rom
if you want to use AOSP you must follow the custom kernel guide.
Ahh, (my english is bad..) i think we misunderstand each other, i asked for an Sense 5 kernel.zip to try your "Flash kernel in Recovery" Solution, it exists not so many Kernel.zip with the "Flash Kernel Script" to flash the kernel in recovery... I hope its clear what i mean
this wiil be work on maximus 21 ?
Yes

im not 100% sure, but if you're looking for the zip, its in the 2nd post
the 1st time you must flash the kernel through fastboot AND zip through recovery,
later i will make an app that will work to replace kernels.
but even that all will require 1 flash through fastboot.
NOTE:
the zip contains to kernel, one that you flash in fastboot
one that will be copied to /data/boot/
the 1st is kexec which will boot the one in /data/boot/
Not clear enough xD, this (the kernel.zip) was not a request to you, it was an request to somebody to make me a flashable kernel zip, as an example repacked Alex-V kernel for Sense 5, to test this.
Its late here, so my explanation will suffer, sorry for that.

ok that was clear enough,
so far as far as i hear,
only trips kernel work with sense 5

EDIT: Now we can flash kernel without a PC, testet and it worked.
So, we can flash kernels through the rom itself by replacing boot.img in data/boot and reboot, can't we ?

you can Install any custom rom...even when your in ics you can install JB rom, vice versa providing with the appropriate kernel on the rom zip...
if you are in ICS and you have flash a rom.zip without kernel you will encounter bootloop sir...so when you flash a rom that is not the same with the version of your current rom you must install first the proper kernel...
