WARNING NOOB QUESTION!!
OK for one I dont plan on rooting my phone, or running any other custom rom , no offense to the devs but I cant really see any reason to do so.
I want to run a back up that backs everything up I mean everything , like my home screen setup, my apps , everything. the back up that I have is my back up and it seems ok but not sure if its trustworthy.
any app out there that is equal to nandroid and the other one I think its call clockwork without having to root?
All the apps I know of for backups require root.

Not true, there's a clockwork one click that doesn't do root.
Firstly, nandroid is included in clockwork mod so for our purposes they're one in the same.
Go to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782300
Click on the link in there that's after the word "download."
Follow the instructions (make sure you have drivers installed and enable USB debugging)
To back up: with phone off, press and hold VOL-DOWN, CAMERA, POWER, continue to hold all three until you get to the clockwork screen (green text on black screen; if you get blue text it didn't work and try again). Use the volume buttons to scroll down to backup and restore, use the camera button to select, then on the next screen select backup. Follow same steps to restore (without installing clockwork again of course since now it will be there permanently.)
One note: if you ever have to get the phone replaced, you'll need to uninstall clockwork mod. If you want to know how PM me

I may be wrong but doesnt this say you have to root? if im wrong excuse me for being old and not seeing it lol , if im right well ha I told you so lol
While the current version of the One Click Root & Recovery does both, one isn't required for the other, they are two seperate things packaged together for convenience.
The link squshy 7 provided is for the ClockworkMod only install and doesn't install or require root.
awesome thanks you guys rock!!!!!
ok I guess im dummber then dirt, are the downloads for the drivers missing because they wont open for me
So why do I need the drivers? And how do I do this with no pc? Is it possible?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
ok got the drivers, set usb to debug, downloaded off the mirror site, now question i have is when i extract, it on to the pc, i try to run the the run.bat, and its not working like it should
Nevermind i figured it out , im such a noob
Can anyone give me any advice.
After flashing Carbon ara theme V2.5.1 over a previous version and Leedroid 2.3d, I have noticed by OJ has stopped working. I have tried editing sms message using it but it is dead.
I then went into Clockwork recovery but is doesnt work there either. I managed to restore to a previous version using Rom Manager but the OJ is still dead. I am unsure if this is a hardware issue or I am not getting a full wipe using Rom manager.
Also as it doesnt work in recovery my options are limited as I cant select any options!
Help!
Update
My phone now has no rom and I cant get trackpad button to work to accept install zip in recovery. Is there another way of installing a rom without needing the trackpad button.
Send it in for repair. I am sure that you can use fastboot. Search the forums.
ah...can you click track pad buttom?
and if the buttom doesn't work, i recommend you send to manufacturer.
Trackpad is only functional inside custom recovery.
Use volume keys marked with + and -.
Thanks guys. Got the phone going again but still no scrolling. The click does work though.

Excellent, thanks for sharing it, works perfect, but why does it have to be so ugly??
No more touch to physical buttons, we have to press them to much to do some things, some times I thougt they were going to break using them all the time.
I hope for next release to see a better UI at least!!
It works great. Nandroids with this are in new location and format. Use custom recovery to use old Nandroids. The major problem is Wipe Data/Factory Reset is it also formats sd-ext partition. I wiped 10 gigs of music last night....dammit. Just a warning if you prefer data on sd-ext for safety.
I don't like to use fat filesystems if I don't have to. Win 7 has corrupted my sdcard a few times now.
I really like the multi zip flashing. If you flash 2-4 zips an install, you'll love it too.
This was the only recovery option for the kindle fire for a long time, so I can also share that there are theme options to help a little with the "ugliness", just check the link below.

Thanks God there are themes, I saw that option in the recovery but I didnt know what to do, this is the most ugliest application ever seen made !!
At least is something we need!
Heads up....The Kindle Fire themes aren't designed and formatted properly for our screen size, you'll be missing important selections if you install one. It sucks cause that ICS Blue one looks awesome.
It shouldn't be too hard to merge into the default theme if anyone wants too. Mainly just replacing the stock images with the theme's images and editing the ui.xml for proper font color. Maybe more, but I haven't looked too deep at Touch Recovery Themeing yet. Now that we have Bravo ICS, I have other projects I'd rather do...like start MIUI V4 from scratch....its gonna be a pain in the ass since I can only reference from other devices.
Has anybody tried Touch Recovery with Multiboot yet? Honestly, I'm a bit nervous to try since I'm not sure if the two are compatible.

I can't seem to get this installed on my Bravo. I'm kind of confused of what steps I need to take. I had cwm recovery on there from when Bandroidx was around. I understand now, that his is efforts can't help me here. I tried to use cwm to install twrp but now it seems as though I've lost any custom recovery. Any suggestions or a direction to head?
Thanks guys.

download the flashable .zip file from this site: http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/91
put it on your sd card.
hopefully you're actually using Clockwork Mod recovery and not bandroidx's Bootstrap recovery method - that's obsolete. When you get to CWM (reboot phone, when LED turns blue press the volume down button), go down to install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, find the TWRP file, and select yes to flash. no need to wipe afterwards, just reboot your phone. When LED turns blue again, and you press volume down button, you should enter TWRP recovery.
I don't know if it's still the case, but the last time I checked (first release) it was pretty buggy. I just stick with the tried and true CWM.

Thanks for your response. Well, I thought I was using cwm but now im doubting it because I followed bandroidx's thread so I must've used his method because there wasn't any other choice at the time.
So, if that is the case... then I need to flash a true cwmr? If so, where can I find instructions to that process? I've been trying to find it but everything says to flash through recovery but how if what I have is incorrect?
Thanks, major props to all of you.

Use the defy 2nd init app to flash the recovery on your phone. Search the bravo forum for the thread. I think josuearisty posted it in Bravo General. Yeah, it sounds like you were using bootstrap, which explains why you weren't able to flash.

Download is in that thread's attachments.
I also tried out JetAudio (saw your post in Defy last night) and thought it was GREAT. Many audio options, FOLDER VIEW, clean layout. I didn't like the little 4x1 widget and the fact that I can't change folders easily (my 2 main reasons for using Mort Player), but the awesome effects make up for it.

Lol. It's always a subjective decision when it comes to music players. Jet just suits me and I've been using it on my pc for a while. Haven't tried Mort.

True that. Currently trying out PowerAmp for the first time, clean interface and a decent trial period..... Probably gonna try PlayerPro as well for its DSP pack and video support.
My only real gripe with Jet is the 20 second limit on some of the features\effects. Should at least be a minute or two so you know if they're worth buying the full version for.
Mort's great if you have a ton of music already sorted in folders by Main Folder>Artist>Album>Track like all mine are (and you're too lazy to fix id3 tags). Especially handy if you download by the discography.... My only complaint with it is that the reverb effects don't work with the Bravo, but I don't use them (pc or phone or any music app ever). I'd like an ICS dark styled holo theme for it, but the ones it comes with are good enough and somewhat customizable.
Mort also has a PC\Mac version available, but I've never used it since I use Linux.
Mort Player Official Site if you're interested.
Hopefully Touch Recovery gets better with time. I'd use it full time, but the Wipe Data\Cache wipes sdext as well; and I use sdext for my music and files I don't want getting corrupted on fat32 -- worst choice of filesystem for sdcards imho -- we should at least be able to use the sdcard as ext2\3.... (At least some part of all this was about Touch Recovery)
First off, hey guys, coming off of a HTC phone. I'm semi new to the samsung way of life. The only samsung phone I ever worked on was a epic 4g (dinosaur I know lol).
I need to root 2 samsung epic 4g touch phones with current ota update, FL24.
For my girl friends phone I need to stay as close to stock as I can but give her enough tweaks to help battery, hotspot, etc. As she is in another state for work and can't bring me the phone for monthly updates for bugs, tweaks, etc. (don't think there should be many bugs as long as the phone has been out.)
My phone on the other hand I like to have a stable rom with better battery life but I'm able to update more regular, I also due to my taxi company need to record calls so I can keep driving and listen to the addresses again if I need to without bugging customers for it again. I did have a custom kernel with 2 way record patch and call recorder on my EVO 4G (yes first one, not LTE) . I heard this can be done now with samsung galaxy 2 phones but only in GB and custom ics kernel/roms. If this is confirmed as working in the JB leaked roms I'd be greatful for the info.
I have odin and some of the files needed to root but just wanted someone's input before going in the phones. I was reading
earlier that someone wanted it explained like they were 10 y/o... lmao most 10 year olds I know can jailbreak/root anything that moves, including game consoles lol.. I just want to be cautious, there's a difference between thinking you know and knowing for sure lmao..
Humble taxi driver,
Josh
Additional info; The app I was using is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skvalex.callrecorder
It says the kernel has to have 2 way call recording patch installed for it to work. It even worked on bluetooth on my HTC EVO.
Not sure if it will work on bluetooth with samsung or not, nice if it does.

progress update
considering I need my phone for clients I'm using my girl's phone to test for best recording.
I decided on this method.
To get an FL24 E4GT rooted I would first visit this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2104823. In the OP of this thread you'll find a link to this thread: http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=116 where the developer houses his links & info. The XDA thread is just to help people find it as this forum is very popular. Not sure why he's housing them elsewhere, he just is
This is where the actual zip file to root is located, as well as all the instructions. This is what's called a "one-click," couldn't be any easier. The thread itself can be a bit complicated though, so I'll summarize for you.
I would start fresh, so that means your apps, etc. would be lost - backup via whatever method you find that works without root (not many or any that I know of, other than sms/call log backup tools). You want to click the "Mirror 1" link under step 2 for the file called "SPH-D710_FL24_CL1173404_REV2_Rooted_Restore.exe". This will open another site that the developer has moved...you don't need to leave this site - just look below at the embedded file explorer mechanism and click "ROM" > "ROOTED" and there will be the one-click .exe file you need.
1)Download the zip on your computer and run it. Put the phone in download mode (power off, then hold power button + volume DOWN, then press Volume UP when prompted to get into download mode), then plug the phone in. Once you see the "Com" colored box appear in the one-click program, you can click "start" - it will automatically do everything for you. Once the phone reboots you can unplug it.
2) The next step in any smart rooting process is to get a custom recovery installed asap. There are many "unsafe" recoveries around the E4GT forums so it's important to get a safe one that you can wipe & flash with. Luckily AGAT has produced just such a recovery & it can be found in the OP of the 1st thread I linked above. Here it is directly: http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=106
3) DOWNLOAD THE 0.3.0 .TAR VERSION - DO NOT USE THE 0.4.0 VERSION, IT BOOT-LOOPED FOR ME AND SEVERAL OTHERS, OP SHOULD HAVE IT TAKEN DOWN BUT HE DOESN'T
4) Once that .tar file is on your computer then get your phone back into download mode. Open Odin v1.85 (Download HERE & extract if you don't already have it. Once extracted open the "odin 1.85 folder [not zip folder] and there will be the .exe odin 1.85) and then make sure only "auto reboot" is checked. Then click the "PDA" button in the lower right, navigate to the agat recovery zip v 0.3.0 you've just downloaded and select it. Once this is done, plug your phone (which is in download mode already) into the computer and click "start." This will automatically flash the custom recovery onto your phone.
5) Once it reboots you can unplug your phone again. Once it boots and you let it run for a minute or two, I would power it off and then hold the Power + Volume UP buttons until it boots into the recovery (takes a good couple seconds, keep holding till it appears). Navigate to "Backup" and make a nandroid backup - you can edit it in a root exploring file manager after you've rebooted (like es file explorer or root explorer). Call it "FL24stockrooted" or something like that. Then, no matter what you do afterwards you can get back to completely stock + root + custom recovery, a great reset point in case of problems.
Okay, I'm rooted with all of the above steps. callrecorder and total recall do not work for me except for microphone recording.
Also my MTD has been switched back to the GB's Mass storage on/off toggle when it's plugged in to the pc, not sure why I didn't see that
in any of the pages I read on those mods. I'd like to go back to MTD if possible without losing root.
Can someone shed some light as to these issues of the call recording and the MTD partitioning being lost? I should be good after I get these issues resolved.
Thanks in advance,
Josh

I like cyanogenmod but not sure if that one has confirmed full featured (bluetooth, uplink/downlink) call recording. I noticed one of the smaller market share roms was including a addon for call recording but not wasn't sure if that one was working with bluetooth... can't remember now which one.. have to go through history to find the page.. Ever in Wilmington NC and need a cab it's on the house.

I just did the one click stock with root from that post and then odin'd the custom recovery/kernel
yes I have the little yellow triangle but I have a fix for it to use, but I was not gonna use it til I had it finished to my liking.
I was planning on staying with stock root/custom recovery for my girl's phone in case I had to walk her through changing her prl or
profile update as she's not technical minded and would send it back to me from Idaho to fix it. If you think that rom would be better suited I'll certainly give it a shot. just keep in mind she's not down the street to get tech support for it from me lmao.
AOSP Roms are the best in my opinion They give the most stock feel, the downside is that you need to temp-boot into GB to Update the PLR and Profile
TW based Roms on the other hand, you can update PLR and Profile.
Though not really the best stock experience and you need to flash a JB modem unless you like a phone with no cell or data connection
As for anything else well... No Rom developer supports this phone (the official ones)NO ONE...though there are alot of unsupported Roms for this phone that are excellent there constantly being updated and such. So don't expect the Rom to be perfect or have lots of features. The unsupported developers can only do so much you know

Hi guys,
I'm new to this stuff as well as new to this forum so I couldn't post anywhere else.
I was told to run Neak to adjust my volume but every time I try to install it, after my Note II screen, it turns black...
Does anyone know what I need to do to fix this? Does this combo even work out right together?
And is there any other kernels I could use instead to fix my low volume?
Much appreciated and sorry if someone answered this already... I tried looking but I might have not looked into it enough.
Yes the 2 work fine together. I'm actually running liquid smooth with sneak and viper too boost my sound. I've noticed that when flashing a ROM you have to flash the ROM and let it boot then go back into the recovery and flash the sneak kernel. Once you flash the kernel you have to download the uneak app from the market place and you can access the Wolfson audio from there to tweak your sound.
I'm not sure if this is what you have done or if this helps you in any way but I can confirm they do work together

Well, problem for me is that after flashing neak and rebooting my phone, after the "Note 2" boot, my phone will black out and won't do anything..
Maybe I downloaded the wrong zip?
Could you possibly send me the link that you used?
Thanks!

As long as you don't have an N7100 you can use this...you may have downloaded a bad zip or possibly for the wrong model. You should be good to go with this because its the exact same zip I used and it works fine...good luck
