Hi,
I sent my one X back to Vodafone in the UK as it had a screen fault.
It went as an unlocked one that had the latest update (Sense 4.1 etc) but they have swapped it for one that says there is no update available (even though it's one Sense 4.0 etc) and has loads of Vodafone apps on that my old one didn't.
Is there any way I can unlock it and get the updates etc ?
Would I have to root to do that ?
Should I just send it back (again) and ask for an unlocked version ?
Thanks for any help,
Vodafone will only supply a branded handset, all you can do is go custom

Presumably I could flash a stock ROM and get back to where I was ?
Will that network unlock the phone as well ?
Just a bit nervous about warranty etc.
Sound like I made a mistake and should have sent it back directly to HTC.

you can yeah, you'll have to unlock bootloader etc from scratch.
i don't think it will network unlock the phone.
warranty will still be fine, if you bought it from vodafone, then your warranty is with them, they actually have their own repair center, so they don't rely on htc. aside from the fact its a branded handset, it probably was better you sent it to vf, as htc have a habit of sending back phones un repaired.

My One X is branded to O2 UK, I asked them for an unlock code so I could use any network, I revived it and unlocked my phone. My question is do I still need to wait until my network releases Jellybean or can I use an unbranded one?

I think its still classed as an O2 branded phone, its just SIM Unlocked now.
So probably will have to still wait untill O2 release their JB.
Unless you use custom ROM.
Hope this helps.

Hey Guys,
I am thinking on flashing my HTC One V that I have with Koodo Canada. I purchased an Unlock code online that works. Will flashing mess this up?
R: Will flashing screw up my unlocked HTC One V
No if you are 1%careful and 1% smart, the rest 98%, you don't need it

you can potientally brick the device while flashing i would take it to someone that knows how to do that professionally, how ever you may have some service issues depending on where you want the phone flashed too. although i have had flashed phones before service was okay just no mms with some companies.just data/text.
No bro just don't be nervous....and use brains

If you unlocked the phone, you know a bit...
If you did something more (recovery, kernel, rom), you know what to do, a bit more...
Just follow instructions and sane mind... :fingers-crossed:
I know how to root and such. I just don't want to screw up my unlocked phone. Will I have to re enter the SIM Network code?

Purchased? WTH? As in PAID money?
I have had two companies give me the same unlock code which does not work. Is it a problem with the phone or a problem with the code?
Both say factory reset the phone but this has some issues I think, sometimes I get a red triangle or it reboots very quickly without resetting from the rom.
Phone is sim locked to Three UK (who have stopped fixing the phone directly and HTC won't look at it as its been boot loader unlocked)
Can anyone help with this if so, give full instructions and files needed. Thanks in advance.
P.S. it would be nice if a debranded rom could be installed.

ARe you on STOCK rom and stock recovery. If no go to full stock
I had the same problem on my One X locked on Orange Romania. It seems some GSM operators change the factory unlock codes. The only way to unlock it would be to have a buddy working at the GSM Operator or wait until the phone gets out of contract. I was unable to unlock mine.
yes I'm on full stock rom.

OK so I have got the code from Three UK and it is the same as the the others and does not work.
Does anyone think it is because the boot loader has been unlocked?
HTC support chat reckon thats the problem

It shouldn't, I believe I had the same problem but I was on AOSP, I had to put a stock ROM on for sure.
It could be worth locking it to see though, it's not the biggest pain in the ass!
If no joy, Im out of ideas... sorry mate!
Good luck

My phone has this stock Rom already on it.. I would have to try putting another stock Rom on it. It it possible to put a standard unbranded stock Rom on it instead of HG3?
As far as I know ofcourse you can
OK I have put another H3G stock rom on and this does not work either.
After looking into this further I have found somewhere that if the phone is a replacement one or something was changed from manufacturer and providers with regards to databases for unlock codes then the one provided may not work.
Well my phone went into the service centre and they fixed it but stated after testing they decided to change the mainboard. I suspect because it was originally a CID 1111111 with S-OFF(unbranded as HTC described it) as it was delivered first day they came out. Rush job to get to market and didn't get branded to H3G_001 and S-ON I suppose.
Anyway I suspect that because the main board has been changed the the unlock code has also changed and not been documented or changed on the database for the codes. So they are providing me with the original code not the new one and the letter for the fix state IMEI code previous and new the same, so they must have just reprogrammed that and forgot about the unlock code.
Is there a way to read these off the phone, NVR or something?
I am with Orange or EE and I have tried to flash a stock rom with stock recovery and relocked bootloader and nothing has worked. I have paid 2 companies for the unlock code which is the same code and nothing works I am so frustrated might have to leave htc. This is ridiculous I am on 3.16.61 and my cid is orang001

I'm going elsewhere on my next phone too. HTC support use the bootloader unlock as a get out of jail free card.

Just to kick this up I've had the exact same problem (this time with t-mobile) 3 companies and EE all with the same code, all refused by the phone.
Heart breaking really.
Is there no hardware method to get the code or an alternative sim unlock out there?

Hi All,
I've been trying to perform a sim unlock on my One X (Running 3.16.61.6 software, CID ORANG001), however I keep getting an incorrect password when I input the unlock code. I'd previously unlocked the bootloader to root the device, but have since relocked the bootloader and restored a stock boot and recovery image, all to no avail. There doesn't seem to be an RRU that matches my software version available however.
If I go to the hassle of getting the phone to s-off, is there some way to then obtain sim free? This has clearly been a learning process, in the future I shall do a sim unlock *before* rooting or otherwise adjusting my phones! However my girlfriend wants my old phone now, and keeps pestering, so any help would be appreciated!
The codes seems to have changed lately from the carrier. On the stock rom, recovery and kernel it should work. The bootloader can be locked/relocked/unlocked. That does not matter.
S-off.......good luck finding a shop who can offer you such service !

Hrm, maybe it's a duff code then - just a little loathe to throw another £10 or so at it for the same code to arrive.
S-Off shouldn't be an issue, I've found plenty of advice on how to obtain it, just not how to get from there to sim-free. Obviously if it was easy, everyone would do it
Or do I just launch it back on eBlag and pick another one up that's already unlocked!
S-off is a problem on the hox. The methods floating on the net won't work (like rumrunner) only via a shop it can be done. At home is a no go.
And as for carrier unlocking it i have no experience, i always go for the unbranded simlock free devices to start with

Yeah, I didn't have much cash when I bought this one, and it was an orange branded phone so no problems.
Other option is to port the GF's number to EE.
GF to EE.....you have to explain that to me ....never read about that before ?

GF = GirlFriend!
EE is who Orange and T-Mobile have merged to form into. My new HTC One is on a EE contract. GF is on Three Pay as you Go, but IIRC I should be able to port her number over to an EE Pay as you go.
Ah thanks, i misunderstood that part.
I've got a M8 from EE in the UK, which comes with some carrier additions in the software. It also tells me that I'm up to date, although I know there is a newer version out there. It's obviously not been approved my my carrier yet.
Is there anyway I can convert my device to the standard firmware, after unlocking on HTC dev?
I suppose I could just flash a custom Rom?
Would my carrier know / care if I did this?
Cheers
Stewart

Your carrier wouldn't know but HTC will know that you've unlocked the boot loader. If you need any warranty work or need to send it back to EE then even if you locked the bootloader it would show as re locked and not locked. If EE check this then they may charge you for any repairs.
