Nexus 7-based rom for Kindle Fire? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know of any KF rom that would be closest to the experience found on Nexus 7?
Loving my Nexus 7 tablet, would like to get my KF at least in the proximity of that experience. CM releases have their own flavor, and I've even tried AOSP from lithium76, which seems semi-decent, but has issues and less dev focus now.
Instead of trying every rom, anyone have a recommendation?
Again, I want as close to Nexus 7 experience as possible, on my KF Love vanilla JB, at least as found on the Nexus devices.

[Q] Photoshop Touch on Kindle Fire?

I'm curious if anyone has tried to load any of the Adobe tablet apps onto the Kindle Fire, and if so, did they work?
I picked up a Kindle Fire yesterday, but haven't opened it yet, mainly because I don't want to find out the hard way that it won't be able to use awesome tablet apps that are currently only available in Google's Android Market.
I've heard that you can sideload apps on the Kindle Fire, but I'm not sure if that would work in this situation since it is a paid app that requires the Android Market. I don't have any other tablets, and when I went to buy the Photoshop Touch app on the Android Market website, it told me it wasn't compatible with any of my devices (only have Android phones so far).
I am guessing it would work, but the resolution is going to cause some of the Gui elements to be cut off, just like the HTC Flyer.

I tried to install it. It responded with a parsing error. Probably because the Fire is 2.3 and the Photo Shop Touch is only compatable with HoneyComb/ICS
Thanks for the answer. Good to know; I'll just have to wait for a port of ICS to the KF before purchasing Photoshop Touch.
and also, why not just root it? it is really a rather good tablet for it's price once it is rooted.
then you CAN get the android market on it (without having to sideload etc)
The android market website does say that Photoshop Touch is incompatible with the Fire. It says that Photoshop Express is compatible (that one is in Amazon's appstore, but the Amazon appstore says it's not compatible!) but all those other 9.99 Adobe tablet apps say they're incompatible.
has anyone tried sideloading these? if so how did you download/pay for them?
I got it to run using a custom ICS rom. I don't know about side loading tho
It works pretty well on ICS, all gui elements fit thx to fit button in ICS. But you probably will have to sideload it since kf not officially supported
Fit button?

Well, I was curious as to see if this app worked on the KF. I don't know/care what you do, but to get anything done with a Kindle Fire, you MUST root it. If you have one of the old versions (where/when did you buy it) then it comes with a heavily modded android 2.3, which does no good for anything, so I suggest that you root it with the KFU, install TWRP, and load up Ice Cream Sandwich, or Jellybean on it. I have twa_priv's latest CM10 jellybean custom ROM with the leaked 4.2 Gapps installed, and it does wonders! If you think that you would prefer a more vanilla ROM, I would go with Hashcode's; it is really good too.
Anyway, back to your dilemma/question: can you run Adobe Photoshop mobile products? the answer is yes; however, (at least for me, as my KF is not cloaked as a Galaxy Nexus) the Play store says it is incompatible. So I decided to do a google search of the latest apk, and downloaded it. Once I moved it over to my KF, it took about a minute to install (quite long, so don't worry that it isn't doing anything). I opened it up, and it works just fine. No crashes or anything; and it is a very good app, I think, after just playing with it for about 10 minutes.
So your answer is yes: first root and ROM your KF, then google search the latest apk and install it.

The New Yorker apk (Kindle Fire version 2.2.0.12.37111) on Nexus 7?

Hey, gang.
In the past I've had luck running The New Yorker app for Kindle Fire on other Android devices, including Galaxy Tabs, and my current Galaxy Note. No luck on the Nexus 7 - I'm thinking maybe a Flash issue, though it asked me to install Air and it gets as far as the opening screen, then tanks. I don't have the latest version - 2.2.0.12.37111 - so if anyone has it to share I would be most grateful, as I try to figure out how to get The New Yorker app for Kindle Fire to work on the Nexus 7...
P.S. I know Next Issue is offering New Yorker in their subscription based service, and they also offer it for free to print subscribers such as myself, but it Next Issue doesn't run on the Galaxy Note or Nexus 7, so no luck there (but I can read past issues for free on my iPad).
New Yorker app for Kindle Fire
Hi if you had not got it already I have the version you are looking for (not sure it is the last indeed). Actually I am not sure I am allowed to link it here, would you please PM me.
I plan to buy the Nexus 7, would you please update me as long as you got the application working, actually I am bit surprised I thought Next Issued version must work on every 7" tablet, at least for US subscribers (which I am not).

I too would welcome a way to view my New Yorker subscription on the N7. I've tried side loading the Kindle app and even with Flash and Air it is a no go - - the app crashes. The Next Issue app doesn't crash but the New Yorker does not download to the device.

Kindle Fire For Business

Hello all,
I was thinking of putting Kindle Fire HD's in my store for people to use. I already use iPads and have them Jailbroken to lock anyone down from changing/installing/deleting anything.
I use these enclosures, for the iPads, on the tables. And they make an enclosure for the original Kindle Fire, but I would be using the Kindle Fire HD. The iPad's are too expensive.
Now what can I do to keep users from accessing the settings and installing/deleting anything? Also no in-app purchases. Are there any mods or apps that can do this? I know the iOS can.
You can add a user and limit what they can get to.

You could use this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kytephone.guest&hl=en
Not sure of it works on the stock os or not since I'm running a standard kf2 on CyanogenMod.
Honestly not even sure of this is exactly what you are looking for.
Also- you can turn off in app purchases on cyanogenmod (aosp).. Again, not sure if it works on stock.
Not sure how savvy you are w android devices so unable to tell you if YOU can do it.
Edit: in a business environment you MIGHT be better off w the nexus 7

Ok. Just followed your link for the cases. I think the app you would want is this:

REQUEST: a "build:prop" flash OF Nexus 10 FOR he 8.9 jem.

I have an old gen 1 otter that when I learned how to upgrade the OS there was a buildrop file that "tells" Google / Amazon what tablet it is. THAT file says Nexus 7 (afaik it is the 2012 model).
Can someone make a flashable file like that for the 8.9 jems ??
Am I missing a very basic thing, or does no one want / care about this??
As my jem can no longer play an Amazon game called castle clash due to this 8.9 I.D., I'd like to avoid / delay this from happening again in the future.
?? Can I just copy the one I have for my otter and modify it, or is it way different?
The COMMON tablet I found that is "close" to the jem is the Nexus 10.
I don't mind making it myself, I just need info. I just thought it would be a good idea for all jem hackers to have.......
Oh, I learned this stuff HERE at x-da. The otter is running CyanogenMod ASOP 4.2.2 and I still use it to this day.
