Alright, I've been doing a bit of research, and I haven't found much. the one method that I did find required CWM, which I couldn't get properly installed on my phone. I have no idea on how to unlock the bootloader for R800x, so I'm stuck there, too. I'd appreciate some help with getting ICS on my Phone. Once again, if you didn't catch it:
R800x
Verizon Wireless
Rooted
Running 2.3.4
Locked Bootloader
No CMW
unlock your BL 1st.. contact alejandrissimo for that...
See, That's the step which I want to avoid. Isn't that the method that you have to pay for? If it isn't, I'll do that right away. If it is, I'm not taking that route. I know there is a way to use ClockWorkMod to restore from a modified backup, but I can't get CWM installed.... Or am I just out of luck?
Edit: I just checked, and that's the paid method.
If you want CM9, you need an unlocked bootloader, and for the r800x, that means paying. There's no other option.

Let me just cut to the chase if your still looking for CM9 rom for your Locked Bootloader R800x there isnt any. You can search the XDA forums all you want you wont find anything rom here unless your bootloader is unlocked.
Do the paid method man, I had Alejandrissimo do mine Sunday and had an OC'd kernel running 1.6ghz-2.0ghz and CM9 FXP 137 with full Data/Wifi/BT/Camera/Everything by 11AM this morning after looking around for a few fixes. Totally worth it.
$25 for what ends up being practically a new phone? Would take that any day of the week.

Hi,
As it is written in the thread title, I am the proud (and frustrated) owner of a an Xperia Arc on Rogers (Canada). I am frustrated because since the "classic" bootloader unlocking methods do not work with Rogers branded phone, I'm unable to use any flashing method that require fastboot.
Also, I've seen a bootloader unlocking method that involves removing the battery, attaching wires on contacts, ... And I do admit that this kind of stuff scares me a little bit.
I wanted to know if wether or not it was possible to use Clockworkmod recovery (or Rom Manager) with a rooted 2.3.2 version and "just" install CM7 that way ? I know it sounds a little naive, but I'm currently stuck trying to root (after a downgrade to 2.3.2) with Gingerbreak and it stalls and the phone ends up never rebooting.
So if anyone has a solution/idea on how to flash CM7 on my locked bootloader Arc, that would make me (and probably dozens of other Rogers Arc owners) sooooo happy.
Also, I just wanted to know if it was possible to flash CM7 with Flashtool ? Before having my Arc, I had an X10 and used flashtool about 15 times to flash MiUI Roms... If yes, would it be by "converting" the CM7 files into a .ftf file ?
Thank you very much
if i were you i would save the hassle. unlock bootloader, and go. i just did it this past weekend so i can get root without jumping through hoops.. i was extremely anxious about it too..but if you follow the instructions you really cant go wrong. ps. im using rogers arc too! and as to your questions.. i really dont think you can.

+1 If you can follow instructions then everything is pretty straight forward.

Roger's Arc owner here as well.
So the the official method via the sony website dont work for us?
As CM7 is getting stable and since its pretty much release, I was gonna start to work on this ...
I was hoping to unlock bootloader ( through either sony , or one fo the threads and peeps that can do it here ) , root it and enjoy CM7.
Hope the official one works :S

It doesn't, no Operator locked handset can, so you will need to use Alejandrissimo or Jinx13. Worth every penny.
Allright thanks for the heads up , I'll set up an apointment or somethin with Alejandrissimo

Hi,
Thanks for your quick answer gk_terato. So is the 24 USD $ really worth it (e.g. with alejandrissimo) ? I know a fraction of this amount is used to pay the tokens, but I don't know how much this is really worth... I've (sim) unlocked all of my previous phones and it was never over 15 CAD $.
And btw, I was just wondering wether or not unlocking the bootloader would, at the same time, remove the sim restriction ?
Thanks again !

I have been rethinking my position on unlocking my bootloader but I have a few questions before I take the plunge. Please, only people with R800x experience reply so I don't make my decision on faulty info. Thanks!
1. What kernels work with the R800x? I know of 1 besides stock, and it's DoomLord's.
2. Is the stock kernel for the R800x easily available to return to stock? Update: my kernel is 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
3. What ROMS will become available that I can't use now? I'm mainly interested in ICX and CM versions. But what else might I want to consider?
4. If I unlock and later Verizon releases an official ICS for the R800x, can I put everything back to stock and relock to get the update?
5. If I relock the BL, do I have to pay to unlock it again?
Those are all the questions I know to ask for now. If there are other things to consider (besides warranty issues), please let me know. Thanks, as always, for your help.

Reloacking is normalling a one way thing. The only exception is possibly the test point unlock.
Contact Jinx13 on these forums. I know he charges $24 to do the unlock, but I believe it's possible to relock, just have to ask him.
DooMLoRD kernel works, as does the Darkforest kernel, KeiranFTW has a separate kernel for his DarkforestMIX, and there's the CM7 kernel.
The stock kernel is included in the .ftf file for 2.3.3, as far as restoring to it on its own, I'm not sure. I believe KeiranFTW has a tool that can pull things out of .ftf files.
Roms that will be newly available are... well, for right now, it's just CM7 and DarkforestMIX. It's easier to flash Darkforest 3 with an unlocked bootloader, but not necessary.
If you use the test point method (which I'm sure is the only one available for the r800x), I've been assured that any ota updates and such will be allowed, even if you keep your bootloader unlocked.
As far as re-doing the unlock, you'd have to ask the guy who does it, but my guess is not. I believe it's pay-per-use, not pay-per-phone. If you go to unlock-bootloader.com , the guy that does the unlocks, Alejandrissimo, has a contact section where you can email him questions. I believe you can pm him here, too, though.
I unlocked my bootloader last weekend, and I'm very glad I did. This is just because I can use CM7 on this phone, which really fills in gaps that I thought were missing. But hey, YMMV as far as enjoyment with the unlock.
So I have a carrier branded (rogers) Xperia play build 4.0.2.A.0.42, it is "unlock able" through sony, what is the best way? paid unpaid? test point the only way?
EDIT: Wrong info. Sorry about that.
Test point is the only way for a Rogers one.
It's only available paid. You can have someone like Alejandrissimo help you remotely for $24, or buy an Omnius unlock credit and use that program yourself. I used Omnius, personally. Mine is also the Rogers one.
You'll need to use the test point method and unlock the bootloader for cm9.
Better off with JokaWild and an ICS theme though IMO

There are two gingerbread roms that are stock-based and can be installed just by having root. Darkforest and T.E.A.M. The reason is because they don't modify any files that conflict with the bootloader.
Some others might work, but you'd have to experiment and it's very unlikely.
All others need an unlocked bootloader. Cyanogen, ICS beta, ICX etc. all need it.

Locked ICS roms will start showing up once the official R800i ftf comes out as well.
Moved to Q&A Section, please post questions there. Hope you got the answers you needed!
Hey I've asked a similar question in the past although didn't ask it properly and I HAVE searched many a time so I thought I'd ask and a good answer would be extremely appreciated so here goes:
I bought my Play (R800a) the day before Ice Cream Sandwich was cancelled for the device *Sadface* and then I soon after discovered that without paying extra for a Test Point unlock I was stuck with a pesky locked bootloader. Now, I thought this was the end for me but then I discovered something amazing! I can still install CWM and flash firmware via Flashtool, So did this mean custom roms on a locked Bootloader?! Yes, yes it did! Now that wasn't the end of my hassles, I also discovered that flashing kernels was impossible with a locked bootloader but what did that matter to me? I just figured I'd ignore Kernels all together, I'm fine with that!
>So what that made me wonder was are there any versions of CM7 or (preferably) CM9 that do not require a custom Kernel? And if so what firmware should my phone be on for it? I am currently on .42 but If it means a custom rom I'm happy to change!
>Next, if there are no safe versions of CM7 or 9 for a locked Bootloader, what other amazing roms are out there that I can use?
>If I were to stay on the stock rom should I update to something else from .42 or stick with it?
ps. Please do not go and say I should just buy a Test Point unlock, I have absolutely no money, I'm 17 with no Job and my parents don't have money either (I just lent mum my money the other day to buy milk).
pps. Will updating the firmware via flashtool wipe my phones memory? If so is titanium backup the best backup tool? (I am rooted)
I am Carrier unlocked (Previously locked to Telstra Australia)
Unfortunately most of the GOOD roms use different kernels...especially the CM7 and 9....so you would more than likely have to pay to unlock your phone. Still reading you post, just though I'd put what I've read from the forums here.
Searching around the dev section is normally your best bet to find roms that run through locked bootloader. Make sure you do a nandroid backup before you restore using the rom you choose. Using Titanium Backup is good for backing up games, save data and the data for those games. In your case you should look for GSM locked bootloader roms in the Dev section.

Okay thanks mate I'll have a look around!
hi, I did a trade with some here on the XDA for a galaxy nexus. The phone comes with BAMF ROM but I am thinking of returning to the completely stock rom. Since I do not know much information on this phone, I thought I will ask before doing anything stupid.
I am not sure exactly if this is a international or playstore phone (I think it is international) but I do know it is a GSM phone.
Also, it appears to me that the phone is already unlocked (and I think rooted but cannot be sure).
So my question is how exactly should I go through to get the completely stock as I kind of want to try stock JB first. Do I need to relock it and download the image from google (which image as I see there are two version of phone.
I may try different rom in the future so can I just download teh image and flash the rom without relock it? Or I should still lock the phone, flash, unnlock, unroot?
A little bit of background. I am using the phone on T Mobile's network here in the US, so I want to be able to continue using hte phone on the same T MO.
Thanks a lot for all of the helps guys.
Link to the step-by-step, amazing, descriptive guide here
thanks a lot. I follow that thread and I think I have returned the phone to the stock rom.
Quick question, I think my bootloader is still unlocked as when I checked the bootloader, it looks it still says unlocked. Now after I have flashed the stock rom, should I still root it and also install the recovery if I ever plan to play around with the different roms? As of now, when I into recovery, I see the little andrid icon but no selection.
thansk a lot guys.

If/when you want to root and mess with ROMs, you'll be using a custom recovery like CWM. You don't need to flash it until you choose to do those things.
thanks. Would I need to root again? The phone is already unlocked (as I did not lock it again). So, I would just have to root and then flash the custom recovery then?
BTW, I notice there's a very nice tool on the sticky that does everything. I am curious if I use that tool and let say choose to unlock it again or root again and such, would that be any issue? Ie, if it's already unlocked and you run unlock again, would that relock, etc?

You can easily root too if you want to in the future
I think you're talking about the toolkit... Me and others here don't recommend using that... Unlocking/locking the bootloader is easy anyways...

Don't use 1-click toolkits. You know how to do it manually, do it manually.
got it, thanks a lot guys. Will have to read up more on the root and flashing rom. Android is still relativly new to me.
