Hi guys,
How do I revert to stock kernel? I'm using Trinity for now.. where can I download the stock kernel to flash?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
You can download the factory image for whatever version of Android you're using, extract boot.img from it, and flash it with "fastboot flash boot boot.img". Or if you're using a custom ROM, use the boot.img from that.
Is there any .zip that I can use to flash straight from Clockwork?
Search in the gsm dev section for bigxie's ota jb rom. IIRC look in the 2nd post

Hi everybody,
Now that the 4.0.4 has been released for the Galaxy Nexus GSM, is there a full (not OTA) stock 4.0.4 rooted ROM with Google apps?
Is it needed to update kernel and radio? I want to keep CWM.
I've searched around the forum but I didn't see answers to all my questions...
Thanks you!

to have the full 4.0.4 stock rom, you'll have to unlock bootloader and flash the factory image provided by google, either by fastboot or using the nexus toolkits. The kernel and radio will be flashed automatically if you use the toolkits as it's part of the image. You can then use the toolkit to reflash CWM
Yes but I prefer a .zip file so I can delete everything that I don't need before flashing the ROM.
Something like this ROM (the one I have now) :

Thanks you!
Download the factory image from google and root it yourself.
If I was able to do it I would not ask for a ROM.
Is there an easy way to convert the image from google in tgz format to a flashable .zip file?

Yes. You can use dsixda's kitchen to make a flashable .zip file from the .img you can download from google.
why not just flash the 4.0.4 images and re-root?
Sorry to hijack, but I've got a question along the similar line.
If I use the galaxy nexus toolkit and unlock my boot loader, then use the option in it to restore to stock. After that I keep my boot loader unlocked. Will I still get ota updates?

Unlocked bootloader doesn't effect OTA's AFAIK. Custom recovery like CAN however does.

Title says it all. How do I flash a kernal like say Franco of ezeekles kernal?
1.Should I have a custom from or can I flash it on the stock one?
2.should I use a custom recovery aka cwm or is it OK if I have the stock one?
3. Finally after downloading the kernal file what is the code on fast boot to pull the original one and the code to push the new one?
Thank you in advance guys .
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
1. As long as you're unlocked and rooted, you can flash a custom kernel to any rom
2. Yes, flash through cwm revovery, or;
3. Extract the boot.img from the Kernel.zip file you downloaded. Command is "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
If you're not familiar with adb/ fastboot, option 2 is the safest
Another possibility if you want to flash Franco or Lean Kernel is Francos app (franco.Kernel updater) from the market.
With that app you can download and flash the kernel.
Of course you need root for that.

1. You can have any ROM and flash a custom kernel (although some kernels require you have 4.0.3 or higher).
2. You can use CWM and it is recommended that you do. Just place the kernel's .zip somewhere on your SD card and then go into recovery and install from SD card.
3. There is no need to do anything with fastboot as the recovery flashes .zips and does everything. However if you want a back-up the original kernel, you can download the factory images from Google (assuming you have a yakju device or you can swap to yakju if you're not on a CDMA network) and you'll have the copy of the kernel.
Thank you a lot guys .. that was helpful and now I can flash a custom kernal easily

Your problem was having the stock kernal to do the flash. Best thing to do know is to flash a el26 CWM kernal using Odin and then reflashing the whole rom set up again.

I'd have thought you would be perfectly fine flashing from el29. So you can't get into Odin mode or CM recovery?
I thought some roms were compatible with rouge recovery only and some were only compatible with cwm recovery.?.?

So there are two different recoveries? Is clockwork the most used recovery? I odin backed to el.29 rooted does someone have a link for clockwork? Is rogue recovery not as good as clockwork

I don't think it is possible to have the stock kernel and have rouge recovery. That would mean that you must of had a custom kernal which had included rouge recovery. If you mean you had stock kernel to being with you then you flashed the new rom using androids stock recovery which almost always fails when installing a new rom. The kernel I mentioned , EL26 CWM can be found here, flash it using odin and then reflash your whole rom setup. When you double click the file, it will self extract and a file should appear. That is the file you flash using odin in the PDA slot.
The file I flashed in odin was a rooted el.29 file then I used a tool that installed the el.29 rogue recovery... so I'm confused why a .29 rom won't install over a .29 base?
Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk 2
Just put the phone back into download mode Odin el.29 rom that you can find in development section then from there just redo it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
I have already odin back to rooted el.29 but what I'm wondering is why would it change anything? It's already soft bricked once so how would it change this time? Should I be on .26 or .29 to flash a rom?

OK So sounds like (not too sure though) that you used sfhub's Autoroot package to root and add EL29+CWM+Rogue is that right?
Solution to get you back to a working EL29 stock (but rooted) running phone.
Power off the phone.
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101 download the Download the EL29 full restore One-Click self-extractor and extract the file somewhere.
[Also make sure you downloaded and installed the Samsung drivers from this post, have a GOOD USB cable and that the phone is charged at least 50%]
Then start the file you downloaded: SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED-OneClick.exe
The power on your phone while holding the Volume Down button till you get the confirmation screen and press volume up to accept and enter Download mode.
Connect your phone to the PC and it should show up on some COM port (doesn't matter which one) in the Odin tool.
Press start adn wait till all is done. You will then have a working stock rooted phone.
Then take some time and read through all the stickies and tutorials in this section. Read especially the 'how not to brick' ones!
This phone is very different from the HTCs and Motorolas in how the system(s) is partitioned and how the recovery works.
Then take some more time and read a little more or you will surely turn the phone into an expensive fishing lure.
If you want to flash the FF18 (actual leak build) sfhub has a one click for that too! Safest way to go. And you can use his Autoroot package to add Agat's safe ICS kernel.
Welcome to the E4GT just be careful and you'll have more fun.
By the way Qbking77's videos are SUPER if you are new to this phone!
Yes I'm on stock rooted el.29 now

Simple, wait until it's actually announced and ready to download for your device. When 4.4 is announced, it may or may not be ready that very same day, so sit tight. You'll see enough news about it to know when it's ready.
I'll get an ota message even if I'm on a custom rom? And I can install that without any problems?

No, when it's release and ready to download just go back to the stock rom, then there you'll get the OTA.
I personally will wait to download the img, restore the Nexus to 4.4 and just to try Kit Kat, then I'll just flash back to AICP, I'll wait then for 4.4 to get incorporated into custom ROMs.

Where should I get the stock kernel? I did not make a nandroid backup as I did not flash the recovery, I only used fastboot boot recovery.img
If I flash the stock google images, does it wipe the virtual sd content? or only my data? Thanks a lot for helping me out!

You can get it from the stock images, just extract the boot.img and flash that via bootloader using fastboot. Same goes for stock recovery.
