Anyone come from a Galaxy Nexus to HOX ? - HTC One X

I am looking at ditching Verizon, go to an international One X on Straight Talk possibly.
Has anyone done that ?
How's the battery life ? Speed / performance ? I would run either a good custom Sense ROM or install a CM10 Kang.
Opinions please.

I did, GSM GNex that I still own... I havent been able to root or unlock the bootloader so far (had it for a week)... Apparently this is nearly impossible now if your phone already has the recent update. Mine wouldnt root regardless, and this phone as-is from AT&T is complete junk because it has so much bloatware and HTC Sense is incredibly annoying...
Im sure if I could just root it, it would be better than my Gnex, Ide throw AOKP on it and call it a day. But for now im using my Gnex.

Yes, I had the nexus for about 2weeks, sent it back and got the HOX international version. Hands down the HOX is a better phone than the nexus, faster processor, more ram, but then again, I'm partial to HTC devices. And I've never had an issue rooting an HTC device.

I swapped my GNexus for a HOX just yesterday. I dev unlocked and flashed CM10 right away, the whole process was quick and painless. CM10 is running great, everything is noticeably smoother than on the GNexus. The screen is beautiful

I had a gnex I have to say its a great phone but the low 5mp cam sucked

if you prefer the stock android over sense just flash a custom ROM. I'm using CM10 now and it's flying though i'll probably go back to sense when they eventually update to JB

I switched from a GNex to HOX after the GNex was stolen. Here are my major observations
HOX is immensely more powerful than the nexus
The sense camera has much better image quality and a decent set of filters
Battery life is better but not on stock
The performance is close to JB but not as swift
Here is what I did to make my HOX better than the Nexus with JB
Unlock the bootloader from HTC Dev and get ViperX Rom
Flash the Faux Kernel
Install all OTA updates from viper
Now I am in love with my phone. I am not at all sad about the stolen Nexus anymore. The HOX is that good.

What ROM are you guys running?

I'm running BAMF since about a week ago, coming from AOKP. I'm just wondering what you guys are running cause I'm curious to see what your results are with other ROMs. And if someone wants to post a big list of all the available nexus roms, don't hesitate I'm mainly looking for battery life in a ROM, customization aren't too important, I just like my notification toggles basically. lol.....you seriously believed him?? You can't first of all....and iOS 6.2 isn't even out.
It's part of the reason for getting a Nexus....but not exactly. Nexus are still meant to be flashed because the developer community is awesome and since it's more open source than other devices ROMs are easier to develop?? It also gets updates faster.....idk at least you have the choice to run pure stock or pure awesome ROM

I am in the same boat as you are.
On my old Captivate I was flashing a new rom almost once a week, which I still have and might update from time to time with other roms, and I also have a galaxy tab 10.1 that I flash new roms every so often but still not as often as I was doing with the Captivate.
Now, I dont know why but I flashed a rom once (I dont remember which one it was even) on my nexus and like the next day I went back to stock. Since then I kept it on stock yakju builds and the only flashing I do is when google releases stock builds to get the updates.
As long as the phone is working then I will be happy.
I have felt like you guys recently, i havent been to interested in flashing. Ive been working alot lately so i dont really have the time anymore and i just really dont care anymore. I just want my phone to run nicely and have some good battery life. So im just looking for a solid ROM to stick with and be done with flashing everything. On my nexus s i flashed every day, but since i got my galaxy nexus i went straight to AOKP and stayed there, now i got interested in trying some new stuff which lasted me a week and now im back to AOKP and i think ill just stay and stop wasting time on other ROMs. I just tried Gummy 0.9.5 and it was very laggy for me. On AOKP B29 now and ill stay for a bit. Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep them coming

Coming from the gs2 i was flashing new roms on the daily because i liked to and well because the roms never felt complete with random fc's and the promise of better things to come and well the hunger for more was always there, it would always be something glitching or fc'ing and this would be enough to convince me its time for a new rom
But the gnex on m4 and franco 110 everything works not just work but work damn well too! My friends laugh at my 5mp camera then realise ive already taken my photo with no shutter lag while their phone is still focusing the gnex is pure win in a box , for me the software hardware integration is amazing, the developers aswel have done an even better job in enhancing the experience for gnex owners. My only gripe with the gnex was not having toggle switches but aokp fixed that
All in all i dont feel the need to be flashing roms all the time on this phone when everything just works flawlessly

All the time:
1. Terrible battery life.
2. No camera button.
3. No replaceable battery /sd card.
4. HTC Sense is painfully slow and battery draining.
5. No USB Otg support.
6. Severe overheating.
8. Insane camera compression makes pictures unusable.
9. Insane video compression.
10. No multitasking.
11. 3 dot menu is stupid as hell.
12. Only capacitive android buttons.
13. The phone is very slippery.
14. HTC is far too obsessed with the phone being thin and as such compromises on several things.
That's all I could think of right now. Please note that some of these things can be fixed by rooting.

Overall its a good phone but:
A lot of people are facing hardware defects (this is just based on me seeing posts on the forums like the 200 page wifi issue thread, it could be a lot less)
It lags a lot when compared to my 2 year old galaxy s e.g. in the browser.
You have to unlock and root if you want to see its full potential.
It gets hot.
The screen is not very scratch resistant.
The speaker is poor.
The good points are:
Sense is nice to look at.
The screen is good.
Tegra optimised games are awesome.
A lot of internal storage.
I like the way beats audio sounds (ymmv).
The battery life is okay.
It feels good in hand.
It has a great camera.
Mate if your ready to unlock the device then you won't be disappointed simple as that.
No. I'm not disappointed.

happy for now.. very happy indeed...going to see what the new nexus will be like and what specs that phone will have before i make the jump again...if it is nothing special will stick with my One X as i love it
Both happy and disappointed are relative terms. The follow on question naturally becomes "compared to what?" The phone's got flaws; some people above already pointed them out. But so does the SGS3 now that it's been out for a while. So you add up the good and bad for both the One X and SGS3 (they're natural competitors) and compare them against how you intend to use the phone. The One X is an instant fail for anyone looking for removable storage and/or a replaceable battery. In fact, someone that's not OK with that shouldn’t even be asking about buying a One X. As for the screen scratching, it appears GG2 is more susceptible to fine scratches than GG1 so both phones are affected equally. As for the 200+ page Wi-Fi thread, 100 pages are the same handful of people commenting on each other’s posts. The OP alone has racked up nearly 500 posts just in that thread. It's sort of become the village of the damned where everyone goes to complain about HTC, the One X, and HTC service and support. They asked me to leave because I was interjecting optimism.
Did some research and played with it before deciding which quadcore phone to buy and disappointed that it cannot change battery and does not have a sd card slot so finally bought the LG.
Never disappointed... with ARHD and faux kernel is all perfect. Battery life is excellent and everything is fast.
Now I'm trying the p6 release of the CM10. I have to say that JB si amazing.

Seriously, we need a port for Sense 4.1. It's already out for HTC One X and with the improved battery life it offers, I would really like to try it. Despite what others have said the battery life I'm getting out of CM10 and CM9 is trash compared to the stock. I know Sense is bloated and a lil laggy but it does a way better job of maintaining battery while idle by turning off radios and sync. I could leave my phone for the entire night while sleeping and it MIGHT drain 1-2%. CM10 drains my battery by 20% in like 2-3 hours on standby. In the battery stats on stock the "awake" bar wouldn't be there when the phone is idle. With CM10, the "awake" bar under battery stats is sporadically there all the time, even when the phone is idle the entire time. Can some dev please help us out? Where is jmz when you need him...

sense port as you said for one x.. what a big joke. htc one x has full sense from stock, not a port. cm10 (build 89) has issues with deep sleep so that's why you loose a lot of battery even when the phone is idle. i suggest using the nightly build of cm10 because the issue is gone in that and the battery will be increased 100% more. if you do want sense and you don't like the freedom of cm9 and cm10 that has to offer, i suggest two things: go back to stock and run a crappy software that lags every time or flash the [ROM-PrimoU|GSM] [01-September] myONEv RC5.0 FX from the development section + a good kernel that gives you the possibility to overclock your cpu like Titanium Kernel build 5.

Sorry I should have specified this in my first post. I have a Virgin Mobile USA PrimoC (CDMA) phone. I understand HTC One X's sense 4.1 isn't a port. I'm saying we could use someone porting 4.1 FROM the One X for our phone. jmz did that with his JmzOneV4 ROM with full sense 4 from the One X. I know that there are some really good ROMs/kernels out there for PrimoU phones but for PimoC's all we've got is simonssimons' kernel and although its amazing, for some reason my phone stays in the "awake" state ALL THE TIME. I just reverted to stock this weekend and I'm finally seeing my battery life back to where I liked it. I'm not a dev so I can't say for sure but with CM 10 ROM with JellyBoot4.img kernel and with CM9 with sickkernelv0.6 my phone's battery stats showed that the phone was in the "awake" state pretty much all the time and I barely got up to 10 full hours on my battery.
I don't really want sense but I like how it allocates resources and turns off radios when not needed in order to save battery. I can get almost 2 days with stock. I haven't seen this with any of the custom kernels that have been released since PrimoC's kernel source was released.
What I want is CM10, but with the battery life I've heard so many people boasting about. I have not experienced good battery life with any version of CM or with any custom kernels I've tried so far and for now I'm stuck with sense.
Also I've not heard of any PrimoC'ers with such good battery life as PrimoU'ers have claimed.

That would be amazing! If you can, try to talk to JMZ, like I said I think he ported full sense 4 from the OneX for the OneV on his JmzOneV4 rom. There were some issues there with screen size and display, especialy when using the full sense 4 lock screens, and some other things (like the clock app) but it still worked really well. Like cpie said, the desire x's sense 4.1 might work better with the screen size.
I use paranoid Android and the battery life is incredible. Don't Miss out on custom roms like cm 9, 10, myonev, paranoid. That's the best thing that could happen to your phone.
And for sure your requirements will be met anytime soon. Just give it some time. The devs for must be working on that.

ICS Update

When is the update for the DINC2 comming out anyone hear anything?
Sent from my Droid Razr Maxx using Tapatalk 2
We have a thread about this, but it's admittedly long and off-topic.
In short, it's not looking good. HTC said we'd get the update in August, but it appears Verizon is holding it back. Our sister phone, the Incredible S, has been updated to ICS and even has kernel source available. On the Incredible 2 all we've got is a leaked testing build courtesy of nitsuj17. At this point, I doubt we'll see an official OTA at all, but HTC and Verizon haven't yet said they won't.
You can try a custom ROM for ICS or Jelly Bean, but without 3.0 kernel source we won't get ROMs that are fully optimized for our device (battery life, drivers, etc). I personally use Aeroevan's unofficial port of CyanogenMod 9. It mostly works, but the battery life is poor and text occasionally looks garbled (requiring a reboot). He also has a very unofficial port of CyanogenMod 10, but that's an unofficial port of a custom ROM that's still in alpha, with a hacked up Gingerbread kernel. If you use that one, don't be surprised if there are problems.

CyanogenMod 7.2 is very stable and has great battery life. It's still Gingerbread, but IMO it's a much better Gingerbread experience than HTC and Verizon provide. It's available as an official download from the CyanogenMod website.
For what it's worth, CyanogenMod is by far the most popular custom ROM for Android devices.

Do us a favor and let us know where that Rom is? Our developers do an absolutely amazing job with the Inc2, no doubt about that. But they will all admit that their jobs would be many times easier and the end product better if we had an actual OTA ICS update with source released.

I've been using CM roms since my droid eris days.since having the Dinc2 been with cm7.2 and am now using MROM 1-0.2012
Am happy with this rom as stability is my number one factor when considering a custom rom. And it has some eye candy but still is smooth and fast. I am pretty vanilla with my phone i just want it to make calls, reliable sms and mms, and take good pictures. All the play stuff I do on my tablet.
Anyways my question is what are the biggest advantages/drawbacks to running and ICS or Jelly bean rom like paranoid android. Again call quality/stability and camera functionality are my number main concerns.

Well for one, no FFC as with most JB roms i've seen posted. I haven't had any issues with the call quality, it's pretty awesome. When I first flashed it i did however have an issue (that stopped on it's own) when someone would call me and the answer option would pop up, i had slide, i'd slide it answer but it would decline it. but it stopped. the pictures are fine, there are other roms with better camera quality though. i just like it for the customization of the apps mainly

Thanks for the reply. I waited for the update but just bit the bullet and got the RAZR Maxx. Ive been thinking about using a custom rom but with previous experience i don't want to sacrifice battery life or worse having it not work at all.

Getting this phone soon

Hey guys ! I belong to HTC explorer , Samsung galaxy s and desire hd forums and I'm planing to get this phone , so I want to know a few things bout it :
How's the stock rom ? I mean on my explorer its laggy and almost unbearable
How's the battery life with continues use of WiFi and a lot of texting and music , that's the only reson I buy a phone though
I didn't had much Time to check that dose HTC one v have sense 4.1 or sense 4 FULL ?
Dose it have 8-10 different types of lockscreens ? (Weather , friend stream , stock etc )
How's the over all smoothness ? Is it worth the money ?
Thanks ,
Sent from my HTC
Is it with the money? That depends. My carrier has dropped the price continually down to $100CDN and then stopped carrying it.
It's a much better phone if you install a custom rom on it. There are other phones that are newer and will likely have a front camera for similar price.
But, saying that, I like mine (custom ROM) just fine
I just got htc one v and it's fine for me. But battery last just for one day in my case - wifi on and a lot of texting. But I like it - it's fine for me and I thkink worth it's money.

The Lockscreen is not customizable. It's not full sense. To get what you want, you would have to root it and install ckpv5's mysense 3.5 rom., which is good.
I mentioned the price because you didn't. If it's more than $100, I would say get another phone. HTC will never upgrade it. They have already said so.

Stock rom is really bad. Most people here are running sphongle aosp based here. Sense is just too heavy for this phone.

Well, it would be wise (normal, according to rules...) to first read all threads about hov.
Then, if you're stuck, ask... Sorry, we all know how to read, do you? :fingers-crossed:

I was expecting the ui to be smooth and fast but Nevermind I really like it's camera and metallic body and I hope stock Rom wouldn't be that bad cause on my explorer with 600 MHz CPU it runs sense 4 pretty good (lags for a while, but a reboot fixes that) and on my desire hd it have 1 GHz CPU and it runs sense for just like stock , full sense 4 . So if DHD can run full sense sooth as hell with 1 GHz CPU , I see no reson for HOV to lag on lite version of sense with the same CPU

Well I guess it depends on your standards, but my old LG GT540 with a 806mhz cpu that ran ICS way better than the HTC one V does ICS sense.

You can get different lock screens. All kinds of them for this phone. There are also Full Sense 4/4.1 Roms. Not JB Sense yet though if thats what you meant. Its actually an ok phone. I mainly use mine for gps, music, camera and social. On a good sense ROM battery will be great. On AOSP it will vary and usually not be so good. Good AOSP Roms are best for gaming. The metal case really helps, and its buttoned up pretty good. Put mine through some abuse. Its holding up nice. The stock ROM on mine actually wasn't too bad. Just with stock ROM and a good kernel its usable. But the best results are from a custom rom. Lots of good ones. Still development going on.
All that being said I would actually recommend a One S for what your looking for.
The camera one the One V isn't great. Night shots suck, and at 5mp its pretty low. One S has a great camera and 1080p video.
Battery is pretty small (One S isn't much bigger though)
And the One S is more powerful and smoother.
I've had my One V for about 4 months. Always wished I got a better One S.
One V is a good beginner phone.

Yeah 1+
Shent with shexy kitteh ushin Sensation XE and One V
Yeah so if you want it, it's a nice small, solid feeling phone, one v is good for that. But, if I were you, I'd root it and put either bandit's beaver ROM on it off one of ckpv5's
Hey thanks to all , I guess I'll be in this forum soon enough about in a 2-3 week's , one s is generally out of my budget :/
