Follow this link to the wiki. It has links to other posts that will answer all your questions.

Step one search 1 click root and cwm (clock work mod) recovery. read the instructions to set your phone up and install. You'll be first clicking the soft menu button. That's bottom left under the screen. Click settings-applications-development. Make sure to choose usb debugging AND stay awake for the 1 click! Once you have both of them installed you need to find the dk28 thread. That's 2.2. Read those instructions put phone in dowmnload mode holding the number 1on your actual hardware keyboard.
All the right info is available in the respected threads. Search both of these in the development section. Once you are on xda website and click into the Epic 4g Development forum, use the tool on the top right that's says search this thread. Also pm me if you get stuck on any specific part.
Xtra advice, read and reread all instructions until you are comfortable with the steps. One more topic to search for is "how to return to stock" incase anything goes wrong. The only tricky part is the gps but there are also 3 threads I believe on how to make sure gps works properly. Read those as well. I know you want to click and have 2.2 but it does take a bit of research.

Welcome to XDA. As jprocha101 said, the wiki is your friend. Here's a link to the guides and references section. The comprehensive guide is pretty good.
The steps you'll follow are:
1. Root and install ClockWorkMod recovery (CWM) with 1-click.
2. Flash DK28 (leaked froyo build)
3. Choose a ROM (I like Viper and Bonsai) and flash with CWM.
4. Enjoy your better Epic.
The guide goes into details. It will be very helpful. If that doesn't work, search the Epic forums.
Again, welcome!

As of right now the roms are mostly stock optimized as much as possible (if your using dk28 or Froyo 2.2, the proper name). If you are sticking with 2.1, or DI18, eclair, you can flash a rom to overclock/undervolt which lets your phone run at 1.6g instead of 1.0g processor speed. If your using 2.1 and you use tanims odex script found in the development section, you can theme the phone, re odex it, and add on MobileAP a tether app people tend to favor. Keep searching, you'll learn all the things you can do with your phone.
Getting root is the biggest deal, cause you can run apps on a root level and unlock more features for example, when you back up your phone with any of the backup programs available on the market, if you have root, you can back up more user data as well as just the apps themselves but be careful to only restore data on the same rom you backed it up on or you might run into trouble. Once again, welcome to XDA, glad to have you aboard.

well heres my problem all i want to do is put 2.2 on my device and ya and probably some other themes like the gingerbread but i don't want to put all of the roots and roms on my device cause i don't want to brick it and make it slower. See my point
Bricking your phone is nearly imposible with the Epic and Odin (you know, the Norse god who resurrects fallen warriors to fight another day, get it?!). To get to 2.2 you're going to have to root and install the DK28 rom anyway, and you'll need to root again on 2.2 to get cusom themes, too.
Once you've rooted and installed CWM you're good to go. Everything else can be done from clockworkmod (except going back to stock).
There's really very little danger. All the devs give their disclaimer about bricking phones as a CYA move.
Btw, one of the threads has videos as walkthroughs. Those are very helpful.

Sorry been away, root and recovery are easy click menu-settings-applications-development then check usb debugging, and stay awake. Plug in usb into your pic and run the script. Follow on screen instructions which is choose root hit enter let it do its thing
Phone will reboot, then do recovery same way, nothing to worry about trust me

both DI18 2.1 and DK28 2.2 (froyo) have a tar file called that because they end in .tar.md5 If they end in .md5, rename the file, and delete the .md5 so it ends up being filename.tar. They also have a flashable update zip for each. Its personal opinion and I prefer the update zips. I like to keep my stock rom update zip on my usb card and if anything goes wrong I just flash it right over the problem. A tar file requires odin and I rather use it least as possible only for going back stock.
Download the dk28 update.zip file, the victory .pit file, and the dk28 modem (all available from the wiki); and download odin3 1.6 and I'll get you going with it. It is going to take 3 separate steps after you get past the root and recovery.

First of all, to make it totally clear how noob Im at this... I dont even know if this post goes in this section, so feel free to move it wherever fits best.
Second, excuse my english, its not my first language so ill try my best to explain what I did
Last but not least, thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this post and tries to help me.
So, I finally felt courageous enough to try a non-stock ROM.
The first thing I did was search for a rooting guide for the Glide on the forums. And I found one that seemed pretty straight forward. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378082). I downloaded Odin, the CarrierIQ free kernel, started the phone on download mode, started Odin, PDA the kernel file... and when the phne rebooted it got stuck on the samsung sign.
I think my problem is that the guide was old and for GB devices. I was running the stock ICS.
After that, I downloaded from samfirmware the ICS file (is it the kernel or the rom? <-yes, thats how of a noob i am). Tried to use odin with it, but it gets stuck after a couple of mins.
After searching for a while, I found on another forum that it says that I need to downgrade back to GB, and said to install CWM Recovery (I installed it -v5.0.2.7-). And now im downloading the inception ROM (the same post on that forum said to downgrade using that ROM). Since the download is really slow, Im writing here to see if someone knows what happened and how to fix it.
Thanks!

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I downloaded the Stock Kernel but cant seem to install it. Im using CWM and trying to install from SDCard, but it only shows me the internal memory from the phone, not my SD. I already formatted it in FAT32 format. Same results.
Can I do this via Odin? Any idea why my SD isnt showing?

Not sure about cwmr 5 but in ver 6 (touch) you can mount the internal memory, use your usb cable and transfer the zip to the phone with your pc. UN-mount and disconnect the cable and then you should be able to find the file to flash!

Do you have a link for it? The dropbox one I found isnt working... dont know if the CWM is specific for each device, i found others on google, but since they are on another devices forums, I dont know if it will work with my glide....
Thanks for the help....
The other thing you can do is download the leaked ics that it's a Odin one click file that will flash the kernel and boot loader, should get your phone booted back into stock ics where you can get a fresh start. I'd recommend going to Thegreatergood's LiteRom ver 4 or 5 afterwords. At least until Dman gets cm10 going!

I would also suggest making a backup if the /efs folder on your phone. that folder contains all the imei information that identifies you device to the networks. there is a thread in another forum that uses a tool to easily make a backup and gives the ability to restore! I have never had to use it to restore, but there have been reports on rare occasions where others have lost that information and the imei numbers turned to all "0's" I'm also not sure that you can use the tool until the phone is booted up. here is a link to that thread...

Well Im finally using the literom and its great. Cwm6 didnt read my sd card, but it allowed me to mount my phone as a drive on my pc, so i made a folder and copied the zips there, and installed from there.
I will try the backup thing later. Im so glad to have the keyboard backlight back!

I just installed using the apk.. and set to default in settings.
I tried it with stock 4.1.2 and it threw an error up, 'file with same name already exists'...
Still playing with that one.
edit: works with stock 4.1.2 (flash the zip)..It took a couple of reboots
To show up. Could have been my fault though, I uninstalled all the keyboards
With titanium backup, then flashed the zip.

So far I'm digging it. I've always been a little on the fence with swipe style keyboards on tablets because I have a tendency to tilt the tablet in a weird way. I'm going to force myself to use this for a while to see how things go. Thanks for the link!
Edit- I will say this... as somebody who likes to switch between swipe and standard typing, having both on the same keyboard is pretty much awesome.
Edit again- not to be a Debbie downer but I hope the final version has better prediction... Swift key still takes the cake from what I'm seeing. Perhaps in time with using it, it'll learn...after all, this keyboard learns as you type, no?
Example if I type "hibhello" sometimes it thinks that's what I meant. Other times "hi hello" is listed off to the side in the predictions list and not primary like it should be.

Dumb question - Google claims the current 4.2 keyboard is not finalized yet. I'm on Android 4.1.2, rooted, and installed the .zip through recovery mode.
When my official OTA 4.2 update comes down, will it thereby automagically replace my pre-released 4.2 keyboard with the finalized 4.2 keyboard? I'd assume yes, but I'd rather ask than not know. :good:

A couple things.
First, if you intend to just flash the OTA update (either through the updater app or recovery) it will fail. This is because the update is a bunch of patches, and the first step it does is verify the checksum of many files - including all the ones it intends to patch. If it is looking for the 4.1.x keyboard apk and it's been replaced with the 4.1.2 keyboard, it will fail the checksum verification and abort. So, depending on how stock your system is, you may have to revert it back first OR just download and flash the full 4.1.2 image (easier).
The patch method will not work, but the full image install will - and yes it will 'upgrade' you to the full and released version.

I'm completely stock and rooted. I've changed nothing else aside from installing the AndroidKeyboard4-2.zip in the recovery mode. That's all I did. I just wanted to make sure that if I get the OTA update that whatever keyboard I'm using is the new "final" keyboard and not the "as of October 30th" keyboard.
Thanks for the info! :good:

NP. I'm fairly stock too, outside of being rooted, custom kernel and custom recovery. I'll probably install the beta keyboard tonight.
So if I attempt the OTA patch, it will fail as well, unless I restore *everything* to stock (outside of root). It's easier to just download the full image from Google, apply it via fastboot, and re-install recovery/root/kernel afterwards.
Hello Everyone Sextape and the Gang Here,
We will no longer releasing the actual TAR only One Click versions
Here it is! Sorry for the delay!
Thanks to Garwynn for Making the OC
This is a tar for the latest firmware Samsung Galaxy Note II Sprint Variant:
We do have LK8 but its going under testing with other members we have cherry picked to test.

HELP NEEDED PM GARWYNN
Even though LK8 OTA .ZIP is posted I still need a volunteer to root and dump system.img (MMCBLK0P13) so I can make a rooted one click.
Here's the basic steps to make sure we get a clean LJC root restore version:
1. Flash LJC stock restore in Post #1.
Although this should be the same as the OTA process it's better to be safe and know for sure.
2. Download this file: http://garwynn.rainmotorsport.net/subusybox.zip and place on SD card.
3. Flash custom recovery
4. Flash the subusybox.zip and reboot.
5. Dump MMCBLK0P13 partition to a file.
I know the command but don't know the GN2 file structure to tell you where to put it.
So just replace <somewhere> with a valid path (i.e. /data/, /sdcard/, etc.)
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13 of=/<somewhere>/factoryfs_orig.img bs=4096
6. Upload that file and send me the link please by PM.
Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to help! I can finish up the rest on my side - just hard to do dumps when you don't have an E4GT
Like our work go to our site and click an AD it helps
awesome. many thanks man!
SOOOO GLAD I MADE THE LEAP TO THIS DEVICE FROM THE E4GT! (& THIS IS WHY) THANKS SEXTAPE!

Doh! See what you mean. Repacking now.
*Edit* Mirror #2 is good to go now - sorry for the mixup!
Anyone need the actual tar? I can post it if needed
Did anyone or can anyone flash this and copy the text box from Odin so I can get the flash order?
Last thing I need to make one clicks for this build.
Thanks!
Update 12/11:
Thanks to some info from hayabusa1300cc and billard412 we've got a working Stock and Rooted restore uploading for LJC.
I have one more thing to verify to get the nodata versions up.
One big note that I didn't know starting this - Full Restores, unlike the E4GT, wipes data which includes USB internal memory.
Make sure that you are aware of this when using that version.
Checking into a way that removes app data but not USB storage if possible.

Excellent! I want to try the stock restore. You have a link?
One other note:
TAR versions of the one clicks will be made available for those who need them.
I am uploading them at the same time and will release them all at the same time.
Just need to get it all to the mirror servers..

Well, was going to wait for TAR files... but they won't probably be ready until tonight.
So I've posted what I can do without getting on rwilco's repository - the rest ill be up when he can do it!
Please click the link in OP to get to the one click packages.
TARs will be posted as soon as they are mirrored. If you need before then PM me and I might be able to help.
(Sorry, running out of room on Dev Host, LJC one clicks alone took almost 3 GB!)
Thanks for everyone's patience while we work out the "kinks" in the system!

Garwynn, last night I went to SXTP Developers site. Downloaded and flashed the LJC tar in the stock restore exe and I still am getting chameleon force closes. Not sure if it was the new version yet? Thanks for your hard work and any tips will be greatly appreciated!
Will try to look at it tonight... real life has interrupted my efforts this week

Morning update! Mirror #1 is up along with the TAR files. My deepest apologies for the delays!
Stock Restore is exactly what was leaked by Team Sextape and wipes out everything except your external SD card. If it didn't do that then something else is going on. Everything is good now and should work, so also suggest try downloading again if unsure.
well, this is annoying. I seem to be stuck with the "hands free activation" and chameleon fc.
i'm assuming a nice total stock one click should fix it?

interestingly, it didn't fix it... "preparing network", "hands free" and chameleon FC on every reboot. this is after the rooted full restore OC. what am I missing? weird.
(history: I was rooted stock w/ twrp from the mskip toolkit method of rooting, got rid of twrp using the mrRobinson stock w/ root, and flashed the sxtp update to lk8, got a wifi failbug and tried to get back to stock rooted using mrRobinson and started getting this issue. lol. ok. so... one-clicked your rooted full restore, still there. is that even possible?)
well, my phone seems to work, as long as I don't reboot.
but I find it worrisome.
have to sleep for work now, but if you had any advice for things to try when I wake up, let me know? thanks dood.
