I'm going naked but with protection....(title sounds funny I know) - Galaxy S III Accessories

I'm thinking about having my phone naked....... well, sort of. What I mean is, I was thinking of adding the SGP Glas for the front. So now the front will be protected. Then I would have a bumper protecting the sides of the phone. For the back I would have an invisible shield, Even if I do happen to drop it I can easily buy the back panel since its cheap. Do you think this would be a smart way of having my phone feel naked and having great having protection?
I just love the naked slim body of the phone. I do have a diztronic case even though the case has very little bulk, its still does not the feel the same.
Looking for some advise
What I would buy to do this is...
SPIGEN SGP Samsung Galaxy S3 Screen Protector
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Prote...7726&sr=8-1&keywords=galaxy+s3+tempered+glass
Black bumper
http://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Bumpe...=1347180178&sr=1-10&keywords=galaxy+s3+bumper
Fort he Back of the phone
http://www.amazon.com/ArmorSuit-Mil...=1-8&keywords=galaxy+s3+invisible+shield+back

You don't need to protect the screen at all, gorilla glass is much stronger than your flimsy plastic sheets you put on it. If something can scratch gorilla glass, that "screen protector" will not stop it at all. A weaker object can't protect a stronger object.
What you need to protect is the phone's back. I use my phones naked always. I've never had much problem. However with SGS3, my phone's back is covered with scratches. I don't remeber having any other phone with a backplate this vulnerable.

Nah Gorilla glass can be scratched.
I'm sure if I did this to gorilla glass without a screen protector.... it would be destroyed.

I'm also using SGP glas on my S3, but I use with Samsung's slim case. This thing add literally no thickness at all! And it protects back and the camera. I thought about using SGP ultra bumper case but I'm worried about camera lens since it doesn't provide any kind of protection around.

It's the closet you can to naked feeling! I love it, they come in breeze & diamond pattern. I personally like the diamond, it gives me more grip. Definitely give it a try!

should be in accessories thread

Does using a screen protector take away the essence of the S3's beautiful screen? I am very careful about keeping my phone away from coins, keys, etc. and am confident about not getting the screen scratched; my only concern is the finger oil marks that are left on the screen.
Will a screen protector resolve this issue?
I am confused.

Why not using a pouch like this one? http://mobil.idealo.de/preisvergleich/OffersOfProduct/3276708_-slimcase-leather-xl-bugatti.html
Using a similar case since I have my s3 (bought it at launch) and haven't got a single scratch yet and still have the pure device when I interact with it.

because if I dropped it when its out of the punch im screwed.

Be careful with samsung ultra slim in 0.3mm
I got them ( there are 2 differents in package) and both suffer hot temperatures! I have no photo atm but i can clearly say that they deform themeselves if exposed at some high temperature(for example when you play game or any sort of thing that increase battery temperature)
they are curved now and dont fit well..
So i gone with the tpu ,always samsung offcial, and all is awesome (but you lose the naked but protected feel xD)

When i read naked i thought you meant to take the motherboard out and put it in a transparent case/shell to show the insides....

Why not try a Zagg invisible shield. I'vehad one on my SGS since the beginning and also on my GTab. It'll be the first thing I get on my next mobile upgrade. You can get maximum protection (front, back, sides) or just front protection.

it wouldnt
there are plenty of videos of people scraping keys, knives, and other sharp objects across the screen with no effect, even sandpaper which resulted in very faint scratches

my phone has flip case... and the screen's scratched to ****. If gorilla glass is scratchproof then i'm the king of mars

So then, is a screen protector absolutely essential? I'd rather have the screen naked, then use a screen protector.
I have, however, got a pretty nice body for the phone that covers and protects the back well.

Do NOT buy Invisible Shield Full body!

Just a little warning-tip;
Do not buy the full body version!
It just covers up the plastic cover on the back, which is like impossible to scratch anyway.. And it doesn't stick very well either..
So yeah, don't buy the full body, just the screen protector
I took my time and installed it and mines looks great. The only bubble I have is around the back bump where the plastic curves at. I just got back from a Jamaica vacation and it performed great with all the sand and everything.
Im guessing your problem was user error.
The Zagg full body has two options.
Full body is just front and back
Full body Max is front, back, sides, top, and bottom.
Both are the same price from Zagg. I made the mistake of buying the wrong one so an expensive lesson.
I have the full body max coverage. My entire phone has the shield on with the exception to the screen. Zero issues, looks great. I have a lot of experience putting these shields on different phones.
I wouldn't recommend using any tpu film for the screen; they are far from optically clear and look terrible as time goes on.

I don't get why you would want to cover the back in a shiny thin layer , especially on a rough surface. Buy a barely there case from case mate for the back and a zagg for the screen . Looks much nicer and will protect it if you should drop it.

I know it sounds crazy but some people including myself dont like using cases. Someone like myself who likes to use my device naked can apply a zagg full body protector.
I just came back from jamaica and no silicon, hardcase or softcase will protect against sand particles to the body.

Take a look at your phone speeds.
Invisible shield, and all those full body/back covering plastic covers tend to prevent heat from dispersing.
Your phone will heat up faster, and you will (if you notice) find your phone cpu throttling down alot more often than other people. Battery life will be impacted too.
Hypothetically, your phone may just burn out faster, but who knows. I guess we'll find out in 9 month's time.
It's ok if you don't believe me. You just need to check your own mobile and judge yourself.
I instslled the zagg maximum coverage and use the samsung mesh case over it... Perfect combo. I have 2 sgs2's and both have the mesh case. The one without the zagg got dust from my pocket in between the mesh case and back of the phone and scratched it up. The one with the zagg is still perfect. I always use a case... And now i will always double up and use a zagg under the case. As far as heat goes... Who cares? The extremely thin layer of plastic doesnt make ANY difference in my 2 phones (one with, one without) so i say thats rubbish. On a side note, lots of cases cant be used with a zagg because they wont fit, the samsung mesh fits perfectly... Almost like it was meant to be!

I'm using the Extreme Guard full body skin. Loving it so far. There is no impact on screen functionality / clarity what-so-ever. In fact you can't even tell its on there ( except on the back, the textured battery door doesn't do well with skins. I put it on anyway though just for protection)
I'm using that plus a generic tpu s style black case. The buttons are a little harder to press but manageable. I've dropped it multiple times and no dings or dents Also, this tpu case creates a bit of a lip around the screen so if its dropped on a flat surface, the screen wont touch the ground!

iPhone screen never got scratched after 2 years of usage.
I ordered a trident aegis case and it came with a free screen protector but it was crinkled in half in the box, looked like UPS actually caused the damage...the case is nice though!

Is it nessessory to get a screen protector for SGS3

Is it nessessory for me to get a screen protector for my new SGS3?
I heavily rely on the sensitive feel on the screen, and i just don't want to sacrifice its original beauty. i heard the screen on galaxy s3 use gorilla glass, need no protector any more, but i still worry to see scratches.
How about u guys? will u buy a screen protector?
I have a zagg screen cover (regular, not full body) but didn't care for it too much. It was put on perfectly (or as perfect as it could get) and I felt like it did dull the screen colors down a bit
I recently took it off when my Diztronic case came in and now just carry a micro fiber cloth with me. If the phone goes in my pocket I can slid that right over the screen
So I'd say no screen protector. If you have an extra micro fiber cloth around I would just use that

In all seriousness, no, it's not. The glass is pretty tough, it may get a few little scratches, maybe one or 2 big ones over the life of the phone. BUT if you're OCD about keeping the glass pristine, you want one, because gorilla glass is not invincible.
I got one for the future resale value bonus of "No Scratches", and as long as you get a smooth dry application screen protector, you won't notice a degradation of the feel of the surface of the phone.

Though everyone has an opinion I think that its a must. Don't be fooled by Gorilla Glass it is not scratch proof. I baby my electronics and had never scratched a screen on any device I had owned. Then I look at my Galaxy Note and there are 2 scratches from NO-WHERE. Just poof no drop no bump...
So to be cautious I will always have one now.
I had a package of cheap screen protectors from 2007.. probably not even made for touch phones! But they fit so we installed them. The touchscreen works great and the screen looks fine. I can hardly tell it's there.
I know it'd drive me crazy if I got a scratch on my phone and had to look at for the next 2 years I'd definitely recommend buying a screen protector! I'm sure anything being sold today is better than what we've got installed So hopefully you won't even notice it and can protect your screen
I ALWAYS get one. If it makes it feel cheap, you probably got a cheap and/or crappy screen protector.
I like Martin Fields and have used Seidio ones as well. ZAGG (I think it is) you can get a Best Buy and other places SUCK. They have a sticky or rather rubber feel to them so your fingers don't glide smoothly and probably are what give people the "cheap" feel. The first two I mentioned feel identical to the glass. You won't even know they're there. I get a new phone once a year and never had more than a scratch or two on the protector only. Peel it off ... brand new phone still.
I figure it also helps against breakage since there is an extra layer of protection reinforcing the structure. Kind of like laminated glass. A friend got a giant gouge in his RAZR. GIANT wound to the screen protector, but it didn't make it through to the glass surface. No cracks or even scratches ... to the glass.
I stopped investing in them. My iPhone 4 was without for a year and no scratches. The protectors had scratches but they aren't as durable as the screen

What the hell are those napkins made of? Dear lord.
Definitely get a screen protector. Get a dry install screen protector that is clear and I guarantee that you won't notice it. I recommend SGP Nano Clear for this phone. It is very easy to install and works very well with cases. The only drawback is that it leaves about 1 mm or so uncovered around the edges, but fortunately this will be covered by most cases.
If you are wondering about getting a screen protector, then get one. You may regret it otherwise.

Yes get a screen protector. I highly recommend that you get one. Gorilla glass 2 is not scratch proof. I already scratched my screen and my HTC evo 4g lte screen. :-(
Why would you not get a screen protector for this phone? This is not a cheap phone so do yourself a favor and get you a good screen protector. You touch the screen whenever you use the phone and everytime you touch it, you risk scratching it due to dirt being on your hands. Protect your investment!
Normally I purchase wet application protectors from bestskinsever.com but wet application protectors do not play well with tpu cases for this phone.
I recommend the Reearth dry screen protector. You can find it on Amazon for 11.99 and it includes 2 protectors. It's an awesome protector and you won't even know it's on your phone.

Personal preference; but just remember... scratch resistant doesn't mean scratch proof. I use Zagg Invisible shield protectors; it's definitely not the same as going fully naked, but I'd rather have that little, thin, barely noticable piece of plastic over that beautiful screen and remove any hope of scratching it than to pull it out of my pocket and see that fateful 3mm scratch right in the center of the screen.
Depends on you use it. The scratching doesn't happen when you use it. It happens in your pocket and laying around.
I've never used screen protectors. But I also keep my phone in my front pockey BY ITSELF all the time. Never in my pocket with my keys or anything like that.

You know, Skipjacks, they say the Gorilla Glass screens don't scratch from keys or cigarette lighters, or whatever; it's more than likely going to come from dust or little pieces of dirt/sand/grit in your pocket lint.
yes get a screen protector. A case is your choice but a screen protector is a must.
The screen will scratch very easily ... with anything in your pocket including keys...
The thing is, if you keep it without a screen protector your gonna see a tiny lil scratch ...and then a few days later you will see another... and then before you know it your screen is gonna be filled with them.
So yeah get a screen protector.

In teh 2 and a half years I've had a smart phone Iv'e seen no scratches from keeping it in my pocket.
It don't hurt to have one ;] Spigen makes some great thin tempered glass ones which I would recommend.
The screens on these phones don't scratch. Google "gorilla glass drag test" and see for yourself. Screen protectors are a waste as they scratch very easily. Even the so called tempered or hardened protectors are no where near as scratch resistant as the screen itself. I've broken my screen twice but have never managed a single scratch.

That's my same setup. I bought the NeoHybrid case to protect the back and sides, and the Glas.t nano (.15mm) slim protector. It's as thick as a regular plastic protector that you can get for a few bucks anywhere, but is a smooth glass that feels like a naked screen and would give good protection from shattering. The idea is on a fall or anything, the screen protector will shatter and protect the actual screen like an airbag. Also doesn't look like it smudges as much as the actual screen. I'm loving it so far. :good:
Try this one "GEARMAXX Screen Protector" which be available in eBay.
Good quality with well customer service and easy application. Best protectors money can buy.

Maybe I am wrong, but I really don't consider a screen protector to be impact protection, just scratch protection.
But even if I am wrong, a drop on the corner could shatter the screen, even with a very impact resistant screen protector. Most drops seem to impact the corner, not the screen.

I've been wondering the same thing. I am so sick of my case because it makes the phone so hard to use properly, but everything I've seen shows that you are not 100% safe unless you use a case. There was a post on the nexus 5 sub reddit of someone who dropped there phone with spigen slim armor on. You can tell from the pictures that the phone fell on its top where no case was covering it and it was cracked. I was thinking about even putting rhino skin on but even that according to emails people have sent to there customer service only protect against certain types of falls. Surprisingly it take 100% face down falls perfectly but anything more than 30% there is no guarantee that your screen won't crack. At over 30% degree your are relying on the outer casing of your phone to absorb enough impact not to crack the screen.

I'm sorry but who in their right mind would think a screen protector could offer drop protection? What the actual f*ck.

Though a bit harsh it is true, screen protectors are just there to keep screens from scratches.

Pretty hostile don't you think? More and more companies are starting to offer impact resistant screen protectors. MIME, Rhino Shield, Nilken, etc. OP is simply asking if anyone has had any experience with just using one of these instead of a case. This most certainly isn't a dumb question. Let's keep using our bulky cases and not dare to innovate or question if there are better alternatives seems to be your logic.

pls show me one of these revolutionary glass screen protectors that will stop a screen from shattering when dropped from any angle. even if a screen protector was impact resistant, it would not be applicable in any use case other than the phone falling FLAT on the protector.
Yes my answer is harsh because the question posed by the op as well as your response are not given a single ounce of logic. At least my response HAD logic to it. No screen protector, by nature, will offer a phone any actual drop protection.
BUt nonetheless i was just wondering if anyone made an experience by using no case but a tempered glass protector. Maybe only the protector breaks who knows i was just asking so dont be so hostile
Actually, I had a spigen glass t protector on my s4 and it took a fall as I was getting out of the car...the protecter was spiderwed cracked and at this point unusable, but the screen itself was in pristine condition. Granted this was a fairly small drop, maybe 3ft and slid(yikes) another 2-3 ft and since I wasn't using a case the edges got a couple of small marks.
So in my experience having just a glass protector might save you from some dmg, it obviously won't keep you fully protected; everything's a tradeoff.
ok thanks^^ ill just use case and glass protector

Very similar situation here. S4 with whatever dumbass name Spigen gave their thinnest tempered glass screen protector (Nano Slim something something?). It fell probably about 4 feet flat on its face in a fitting room. Got a couple of extensive hairline fractures on the protector, but the actual phone itself was fine.
What that made me wonder is whether that impact would have cracked the naked screen, or if it was only enough to damage a screen protector. In any case, my naked screen was still fine.
i guess a 4 ft drop right on the screen wil shatter any screen..but its really reensuring to know that in the two cases stated, the screen actually survived
If you don't mind the feel it's still good to have a screen protector even if it doesn't protect from shattering because if the screen does break, then the shards will be contained.
Just use a SP and a leather pouch, I have one for all of my phones. When you slip the phone out of the pouch put it in your pocket.
I know a lot of drops happen when you're holding the phone, or when it slides off a table or something, but I've dropped the N4 from about 12 feet onto wood planks (it fell out of my middle sweater pocket while I was on a container van). It bounced and tumbled but only some of the exterior of the pouch was scuffed, the N4 was fine.

may be i am wrong but imo the thickness on sammy flagships are more than the nexus 5 specially
the glass on nexus 5 seem to be very thin(atleast according to the drop tests and reports of few owners)...which is really sad :crying: ...maybe to cut down the price
may be thats the reason why even if u drop s4 flat facing the screen it might survive without any damage (which it mostly does)
But I guess the only cases that actually protect the phone when it falls is a case like the neo hybrid etc and not hard Cases right?

I think it's because the gorilla glass 3 is thinner than previous generations
