NOTE + Otter = too big?
Without a doubt.
The thickness makes it feel like an OQO e2 from back in the day. Certainly not pocketable, but could fit into purses.
I realy like my otterbox. Ofcourse it is way bigger than without. But i do not have problems with it. The case feels good in my hands and i do not have problems with portability.
Yeah, it's quite bulky in the pocket with my Otter box defender on. I mainly only use it for when I'm on my powerisers, as it's pretty durable anyway.
haaa
im just scare that a phone that big, if i drop the screen broke. Plan to get the new Note 2, but wi have to buy it cash, only 7 month in my contract and lost my phone in ocean , lol.
So is there any case small but will still help a little for protection ?

I have bought at least five cases for nelly (nelly note is her name, don't laugh)!!
Anywayz, i have finally found the perfect overcoat for my girl, its as good as the otterbox and cheaper and the inner sleave will fit in the official samsung car dock which is also pretty much the best i have bought once i have removed a couple of mil of the docks corners, I'm not kidding this really is a brill case, so slim, light, belt clip + desk stand, nelly can be worn face in for total protection or face out, all secure, check out this link to have a look, only downside found is u can have any colour as long as it is black, bought one for my girlfriends S3 (bluey)please don't laugh!!. S3 gets a choice of black n red, black, red or white, she chose the deep red one now all is peace and harmony.

I have my G.Note with an Otterbox Commuter and I can tell you that is feels perfect. I have it in my pocket all the time as it's not a problem at all. It adds a bit more depth to the phone, but also makes it easier to hold. With a 2 year old son at home I can leave it on the table and not panic when I see my son trying to unlock it or just launching his video game on it.
It has saved my phone from having any signs of use more times than I dare to admit and it's totally worth the price.
The only defect that I see in it is that they could have integrated a kick stand if they really wanted to, with no added bulkiness.
I hope this will help you decide.
yes...too big

yes really big for me. i purchased a survivor extreme for the note which is like an otterbox, and i have not used it at all.
For me it is not a problem. I have hybrid protected case, it's bigger than Otterbox. I don't feel that phone is now much bigger. It is fit perfect even at jeans pockets.
So witout a case did the note can take a drop good ? I just dont want to get a 800$ phone and drop it and cry lol.

I wouldn't want to try It has a larger than 5 inch piece of glass on the front! I have always used cases for this reason. If my phone ever falls on the floor screen down, I'd cry. But i'm pretty much covered in every other way it can fall. I have some TPU cases as well as 2 different hybrid cases (silicone + hard outer shell) and then I have some snap on cases (front + back snap together) and I use them all for different things:
TPU for just being around the house, meeting with people, etc
Hybrid for exercise. When I go for a run, I want the max. protection just in case if falls out of my pocket (which it never does, the silicone part of the case grabs on very well to my pockets and doesn't move)
Snap on cases are a mix of the two.
I bought the otterbox defender for my note its heavy duty protection for the phone, it do add bulk, that you will get use to, but is worth the surcurity. But a major problem is with the holster, the clip that holds the phone in the holster broke over time. I also have the Seidio case and holster and now appreciate it more because it's not as bulky and the holster is better. With the Seidio I recommend putting a screen protector on. The Seidio will protect the phone from a drop. The Seidio is a good balance between protection and size. But for the best protection the otterbox is the best, just don't like the holster.

Look I have the Otterbox Commuter and for everyday work it is more than enough protection. It can handle my 2 year old son without a problem. As for the added bulk I have tested it in a suite and in my jeans (normal, not tight but not enormous), and it can fit nicely in my front pockets, with some room to spare. In the suite, I can have it in my inner pocket without looking like I have a wallet full of cash in it.
I have recommended it many times, and after a while you don't even notice it. I can use my Galaxy Note in one hand with the cover and it even gives me a better grip, and most importantly, peace of mind.
I only realise the difference when I take it out to show people how thin in actually is, but I think the added protection is well worth it.
PS: It is much nicer than the same model for the Galaxy S2, which in my opinion looks horrible due to the exaggerated silicon part on the front of the phone.
The Defender makes the Note HUGE.

Well, depends if you want something a bit more bulkier but have better protection, or the opposite. I for one am not a big fan of cases but like to have a bit of protection from scrapes, I dropped my Vibrant once, that was 2 phones ago. I went with the Incipio Feather case, barely there, only thing is top and bottom aren't protected. Good luck.

It depends on what kind of protection you're looking for. I have a Casemate Vroom for normal use & a casemate Tough for heavy protection. I've spent a small fortune on cases/screen protectors. And found my favorite product to be Carbon Fiber Ghost Armor & Screen Protectors. Otterbox makes great cases and has a great customer support team.Im currently using a clear S wave TPU case that shows off my Ghost Armor.

Another vote for the otterbox commuter, it does add bulk but provides very good protection. Add in a SGP ultra and it's well protected all around. Otterbox also has an excellent warranty.

Speck Pixelskin HD, a little expensive but works great with regular and extended batteries.
i use this one. i like it because it covers the screen when not in use but it's still thin enough to fit in my front pants pocket.
Had an otterbox commuter on my Evo. Mistakenly left it in the roof of my car and drove off. Heard something fly off car at about 35 mph. Realized my mistake, turned around and found out in middle of road. Not a scratch on it. Was sold on otterbox from then on out.
Had otterbox commuter and a defender for my Evo 3D. Like the commuter better.
Have a commuter on its way from Amazon right now for my gnex.
Bet you know what my vote is....

Freaking love that case. It fits pretty well.
Concerning the Otterbox Defender:
I bought this case immediately after purchasing my Galaxy Nexus. I work in construction and as a result my phones tend to take a bit of a beating, so since I paid full price for the handset I thought it best to protect it with the most rugged case on the market.
I came home from my first day of work with the new handset, dusted off the phone, and immediately saw small chunks of sawdust lodged between the screen protector and the screen. Popped the case apart and was shocked to find the hard plastic otterbox case just full of construction debris. Just tons of insulation dust, sawdust, and concrete particulate, stuck between the case and the phone quickly grinding away at my $700 chunk of plastic and glass. ... and that's with me being careful with my new toy.
Upon further examination, I found the edges of my new phone scuffed, marred, and pitted, and the damage has only gotten worse since then.
Considering Future Shop raped me to the tune of $80 for the case, frankly I'm not impressed.
For comparison's sake, I bought my Nexus S new, tossed it in my old HTC G1 pouch, and went to work everyday. The phone remained nearly flawless until I finally spiked it off of my kitchen floor out of frustration with Mobilicity's network.
Another thing about the defender... When the phone is in the holster, the headphone port is obscured and thus unusable. A little trimming of the holster with a dremel or the like would probably do the trick, but frankly at this price point I don't feel that you should have to be hacking away at anything with power tools to make it work properly.
Caveat Emptor - Let the Buyer Beware.
Not sure what the deal is with my pics not showing, but if they did you would see a gnex with it's edges chewed to **** after only one day in the case.

I currently have a TPU s-line case that I bought a couple of months ago. Its been really good but now its kind of stretching out and not feeling tight on the device like it used to. I bought it for like 5 bucks so overall happy with what I paid for. Now im looking for something with a bit more quality and better looking. Any good recommendations? Can be tpu, gel, hard case doesnt matter. Anything except thick cases like an otterbox. Could you please just link case and pro/cons and possibly pics Thanks.
Bro i'm using The Otterbox commuter series my Sprint representative told me that they were the "Micheal Jordan" of phone cases, & It has triple layer protection & it comes with a nice screen protector, My phone feels like the terminator now. & i ****ing love it. about $30.00 to $35.00 bucks for the case combo but it will be well worth the money trust me.
When you have time, would you mind sharing a few pics? I want to see how thick the phone is with it? Thank for your input, price has dropped so there a bit cheaper now.
Go ballistic about 15-18 bucks amazon
From the 2nd galaxy
I use a Trident Aegis. Got it for $17 on Amazon. I like that part of the rubber sticks out the back, gives a little more grip on the phone than the Otterbox Commuter does.
My Trident Aegis saved my phone over the weekend. Had it up on a shelf streaming Pandora while cleaning garage then I accidentally knocked it off. I saw in slow motion as the phone headed towards the ground. Luckily it hit on a corner bumper and bounced and landed face down. No problems or scratches from a 6 foot drop.
Thanks for the input guys.

I'm using the Otterbox Defender series. It's very bulky, but imo it's one of the best cases in terms of protection. I asked the sprint guy what the best case was and without missing a beat he grabbed his epic in the defender and threw it across the sales floor. It scared me to death when he threw it lol. But he sold me on it right there.
Trident Aegis hands down. I used to have the same case you did, but I decided to get something with a little more protection. Never looked back.

What he (and they) said! I did a bunch of research on cases before I bought mine, and ended up with the Trident Aegis. I wanted something that didn't add too much bulk but provided good enough protection for moderate distance drops--and the TA is it! It's also a very nice looking case, and fits very snug. My 1 year old son loves phones, and he pulls my girlfriend's iphone case off every time he plays with it--but even though he tries and ties, he has yet to pull mine off =) I highly recommend it.
OK guys I went ahead and went with a Trident Aegis that should be here by Friday. Offers more protection than a TPU case but doesn't add too much thickness. Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it.

I'm quite fond of the Otterbox Commuter cases. I don't like the one I have for this phone as much as I liked the Galaxy Nexus case, but I have no complaints.
It's a nice, snug fit and the material on the back is a really slick, textured, hard plastic that allows it to slide in and out of your pockets without catching. PICTURE

I just got the Otter Box defender last week. They aren't too thick. With as thin as this phone is, the case makes it more normal. Doesn't add much weight either. It was 39 at Best Buy. I seen them on Amazon for roughly the same after shipping. Looks good too, not like the trident cases with the ugly bumps on the corners.
I looked at the otterbox commuter series as well.. it doesn't have the mesh covers for the microphone and speakerphone which is a big plus for the Aegis since I always have my phone in my pocket.
Also, the Trident Aegis doesn't have bumps on the corners.. it is completely uniform all the way around the phone.. it may look like there are bumps in pictures, but that's just because of the slight two-tone color from the two piece design. I think it looks nicer than the Otterbox Commuter, but that's just personal preference =)

While I didn't purchase one for my GN, I did have one on my previous phone. Nice case, but the silicone on the edges wear out a bit after a while and gets kind of loose. My biggest problem with commuters is the slippery plastic. For me, the feel of a case is right up there in priorities. The Seidio surface case has a nice soft touch covering on it and it protects the edges and provides a nice lip around the screen so it doesn't touch when you set it down on that side.

Very happy with the Commuter. I had one for my the Hero before i got this phone too and i couldn't recommend them enough.
I personally like that it has a "slippery" hard cover on the back so its easier to slip in and out of pockets. The front side still has the rubberized feel, if you need to put it somewhere that it won't slip. I do this while driving and just place it face down.
I have to say the version for the GN seems more solid and a tighter fit than what I used on the Hero. Only minor complaint is that the screen protector that comes with it doesn't cover the entire screen. Its still decent, though.
I'm thinking about trying a zagg screen protector, but i've read that people say it won't stay on when applied to phones with a case.
edit: got mine at thecellguru.com....seems to be the best deal going.
I use the OB Commuter on both mine and my fiances Gnexus.
I'm overly careful with my electronics so it's worked great,. She's hard as hell on them since she hates smartphones, would rather have a old flip phone, and just drops it, leaves it on the kitchen counter while she bakes, all sorts of stuff and her's doesn't have a scratch.

Do you use a screen protector with this case or is it safe to use without one?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I posted this in the cases thread, but figured it might be more useful here:
I picked up both the MoKo and Blurex versions of the 6 claw case. From a quick look at the pictures I would have thought they were exactly the same, just with different logos. While they are the same design, there are actually a bit different. Here is a brief comparison:
I liked the Blurex design a bit better because it was thinner and lighter plus the angle of the first tilt position was more vertical.
The Blurex is a tad thinner/smaller in most dimensions. We are just talking about 10-50mm in various areas, but when you add it all up, it just feels thinner, more compact and lighter.
MoKo felt like it offered a little more protection though you get a tiny bit of extra bulk.
MoKo is like the big brother (just 1yr older though) and Blurex is the lite version.
Blurex has the first tilt slot start right after the elastic handle ends. Moko has it start about 3/4" after the handle ends. Where I normally use the tilt feature (nightstand) the MoKo made it feel like I was looking at an angle rather than directly at the screen. I needed to move my head higher above the tablet location to get the proper angle, which was not comfortable to do in bed looking at a nightstand.
The MoKo has more precise coverage along the edges though. Blurex just leaves a little more of the edges exposed (I am talking 10-15mm difference)
The material is also different. Moko uses the soft-touch material and Blurex is the more traditional grained material. The soft-touch feels a little better, but I wouldn't trade the slightly bulkier design for the soft-touch material.
It is one of those cases where if I just looked at the two cases side-by-side I would probably choose MoKo, but after using them a little, I would choose Blurex.
The are both very good products though so this is just based on my priorities rather than something being inheritently wrong with the products.

I don't use screen protectors at all. DROID X, DROID X 2, NEXUS, galaxy s3, note 2, 2 nexus 7's and a nexus 10...never had a issue with a scratch
Only black currently

If you try to select any color but black it jumps the selection to a first gen Nexus. Be careful!!
This is review of Seidio SURFACE case with holster for Galaxy Note 3. http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung...ekickstand-combo-black-p/bd2-hr3ssgt3k-bk.htm
When you have a winning formula with a popular design, why re-invent the wheel? That seems to be a general idea behind all Seidio cases with SURFACE, ACTIVE, and CONVERT models. I have used and reviewed their cases for Note 2, S4, and now starting my reviews for Note 3. One interesting thing I have discovered, even so the wheel is not re-invented - it is always fine-tuned with new details and subtle improvements. So let's take a look of what Seidio guys cooked for us with this newly introduced case for Note 3.
SURFACE is the slimmest case in Seidio collection, but contrary to some other slim cases it actually offers an acceptable level of protection (both scratch and drop) for everyday use. Designed as two interlocking sliding pieces, it offers a unique way to go on the phone and to take it off without pulling/stretching the edges of the case. Once both of the halves put together, it stays securely intact even if you drop it down. Made out of hard plastic material, it's lined with a soft felt layer inside to keep your phone from scratching and for extra shock dampening. Outside has a very soft rubberized coating to improve the grip, and to add extra friction once you put it on the surface - it will not slide if you bump it off any surface. Also, it provides a decent enough lip to put the phone down without worrying of scratching it's display and allowing extra space margin for screen protector. Assembled, it feels very solid and secure in your hand, rubberized finish is very nice to the touch and at the same time will not pull your pants pockets once you take your Note 3 out.
There was something I've been very curious about prior to receiving this case. Note 3 has a camera/flash bump on the back, it's not flush mounted with a phone battery cover. This should not be a problem with any regular case, but how does it work with SURFACE since you have to slide it on the phone? To my pleasant surprise this detail was not overlooked and Seidio came up with a groove in the upper half of the case so that camera/flash unit doesn't get scratched, and once assembled nothing sticks out beyond the case surface. And speaking of the cutouts, everything is perfectly aligned and easily accessible. There are no sharp edges, every cutout has a nice rounded finish. I especially like the generous opening for power and volume buttons, an improvement from their Note 2 model. You will not have any issues accessing s-pen, or getting to your charging port, and even should have plenty of room or headphones with larger plugs.
Of course, the review of SURFACE will not be complete without mentioning of their unique kickstand - one of the best built-in kickstand available with any of the cases. It's not some cheap plastic after-thought addition, but rather a high quality metal kickstand with magnetic mechanism to snap it back when not in use. From my experience of using it with Note 2, there is no interference with s-pen. The kickstand can only be used in landscape view which is very convenient when you want to enjoy watching videos on your Note 3. And to complete this package, you also have Seidio's holster with one of the best in class spring loaded latches. If you prefer to wear your Note 3 with SURFACE on your belt, this holster will be the best solution for it with inner felt-lining to protect the display from scratching, clip that swivels in 7 angles, and easy to access latch that keeps phone secure in while also allowing one handed operation to remove the phone.
Overall, if you are looking for a great minimal case that offers both scratch and drop protection (although not as much of heavy duty drop), and a convenience of solid kickstand and holster - SURFACE is the top candidate in that class. Also, keep in mind that once CONVERT shell is available, you will be able to add another layer of heavy duty protection on top of SURFACE. Definitely a must have for your Note 3!
Here are the pictures.

Bestbuy has it listed on their site, but it is $44.99 and it is the Platinum Series (BestBuys version of the Seidio Surface case)
Just got this case and it's awesome. Build quality is excellent and kick stand is really good and does not add much bulk. Does any have a tampered screen protector with this?

I have this case and had to stop using it because it felt very slippery..The soft touch didn't feel very pleasant to my touch..Best way I can describe it is it felt like I had baby powder on my hands all the time..Just a personal thing i suppose just thought i'd pass it along.
wth is taking them so damn long on the active
I always get a Active or Surface case from Seidio for all my phones. It's really the only case that I am willing to spend a little more on.
I'm gonna get one once they get a bit cheaper on Amazon or eBay.

Just a quick update. As some might have noticed, original SURFACE had missing temp/humidity port opening on a side next to s-pen. Seidio corrected that problem with an updated case. I took some pictures below for confirmation.
Active was renamed Dilex and is available - Got mine yesterday.

I know it doesn't directly pertain to the thread, but I've been interested in a Active/Dilex case. I've got a concern about the rigidity of the silicone, though. I mainly carry my phone in my pocket, and over the years I've used Otterbox. But the silicone always gets all floppy and starts tearing and breaking off. How rigid is the silicone part of the Dilex? Maybe some pictures if you get the chance?

I would recommend not getting the Dilex then. I carry mine like you do, and only used my Dilex for a week before I took it off. No rigidity whatsoever. Lint magnet. It kept lint on the screen as well.
It's waiting on my wife to get her Note 3 so she can use it in and out of her purse.
Anybody using a tempered glass screen protector with the surface? Are they compatible?
Happy with mine, is the updated one (as you can see here):
Thinking of getting the thin iLoome glass screen protector, so same question as the poster above - anyone using anything like this with this case?

I know that a lot of users here on xda have a tempered glass screen protector. I assume that plenty also have the Surface and would've posted if there was a problem. People are more often to voice their opinion when dissatisfied than satisfied.

That is certainly true. I think I will just get a nicely slim one on the assumption it'll work and then voice my opinion if dissatisfied later
EDIT: Looks like the Spigen one is a no-go, but one user reports that the iLoome works with his Surface (the iLoome flex one is the thinnest available as far as I can tell).
